31DO BE DESIROUS OF HOWEVER THE GIFTS <THE> GREATER. AND NOW ACCORDING TO A MORE SURPASSING WAY TO YOU I SHOW. 31But eagerly desire the greater gifts. And now I will show you the most excellent way.
1IF IN THE TONGUES <THE> OF MEN I SHALL SPEAK AND <THE> OF ANGELS, LOVE HOWEVER NOT MAY HAVE, I HAVE BECOME A BRASS SOUNDING OR A CYMBAL CLANGING. Love 1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a ringing gong or a clanging cymbal.
2AND IF I SHALL HAVE PROPHECY AND UNDERSTAND THE MYSTERIES ALL AND ALL THE KNOWLEDGE, AND IF I SHALL HAVE ALL THE FAITH SO AS MOUNTAINS TO REMOVE, LOVE HOWEVER NOT MAY HAVE, NO [THING] I AM. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have absolute faith so as to move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
3EVEN IF I SHALL GIVE AWAY ALL THE POSSESSIONS OF MINE, AND IF I SHALL DELIVER UP THE BODY OF MINE THAT I MAY BOAST, LOVE HOWEVER NOT MAY HAVE, NO [THING] I AM PROFITED. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and exult in the surrender of my body,*NoteCloseSBL, NE, BYZ, and TR surrender my body to be burned but have not love, I gain nothing.
4<THE> LOVE IS PATIENT, IS KIND, <THE> LOVE NOT IS ENVIOUS, <THE> LOVE NOT IS BOASTFUL, NOT IS PUFFED UP, 4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5NOT ACTS UNBECOMINGLY, NOT SEEKS THE [THINGS] OF ITS OWN, NOT IS EASILY PROVOKED, NOT IT KEEPS ACCOUNT <THE> OF WRONGS, 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking it is not easily angered, it keeps no account of wrongs.
6NOT DELIGHTS AT <THE> UNRIGHTEOUSNESS, REJOICES HOWEVER IN THE TRUTH, 6Love takes no pleasure in evil, but rejoices in the truth.
7ALL THINGS IT BEARS, ALL THINGS BELIEVES, ALL THINGS HOPES, ALL THINGS ENDURES. 7It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8<THE> LOVE NEVER FALLS. IF HOWEVER [THERE ARE] PROPHESIES, THEY WILL BE ABATED; IF TONGUES, THEY WILL CEASE; IF KNOWLEDGE IT WILL BE ABATED. 8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be restrained; where there is knowledge, it will be dismissed.
10WHEN HOWEVER MAY COME THE PERFECT, THEN THE IN PART WILL BE DONE AWAY. 10but when the perfect comes, the partial passes away.
11WHEN I WAS A CHILD, I WAS SPEAKING LIKE A CHILD, I WAS THINKING LIKE A CHILD, I WAS REASONING LIKE A CHILD; WHEN NOW I BECAME A MAN, I HAVE DONE AWAY WITH THE [THINGS] OF THE CHILD. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I set aside childish ways.
12WE SEE FOR PRESENTLY THROUGH A GLASS IN OBSCURITY, THEN HOWEVER FACE TO FACE; PRESENTLY I KNOW IN PART, THEN HOWEVER I WILL KNOW FULLY EVEN AS ALSO I HAVE BEEN FULLY KNOWN. 12Now we see but a dim reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13NOW HOWEVER ABIDE FAITH, HOPE, LOVE, <THE> THREE THESE; [THE] GREATEST HOWEVER OF THESE [IS] <THE> LOVE. 13And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love; but the greatest of these is love.
