1AND HE SAID DAVID ¿ FOR [IS] THERE STILL [ONE] WHO HE IS LEFT TO [THE] HOUSE OF SAUL SO I MAY DO WITH HIM COVENANT LOYALTY FOR SAKE OF JONATHAN David and Mephibosheth 1Then David asked, “Is there anyone left from the house of Saul to whom I can show kindness for the sake of Jonathan?”
2AND [BELONGED] TO [THE] HOUSE OF SAUL A SERVANT AND NAME HIS [WAS] ZIBA AND PEOPLE SUMMONED <TO> <THE> HIM TO DAVID AND HE SAID THE KING TO HIM ¿ [ARE] YOU ZIBA AND HE SAID SERVANT YOUR 2And there was a servant of the house of Saul named Ziba. They summoned him to David, and the king inquired, “Are you Ziba?” “I am your servant,” he replied.
3AND HE SAID THE KING ¿ [IS] THERE NOT STILL ANYONE OF [THE] HOUSE OF SAUL SO I MAY DO WITH HIM [THE] COVENANT LOYALTY OF GOD AND HE SAID ZIBA TO THE KING STILL A SON OF JONATHAN STRICKEN OF BOTH FEET 3So the king asked, “Is there anyone left of the house of Saul to whom I can show the kindness of God?” Ziba answered “There is still Jonathan’s son, who is lame in both feet.”
4AND HE SAID TO <THE> HIM THE KING WHERE? [IS] HE AND HE SAID ZIBA TO THE KING HERE! HE [IS] [THE] HOUSE OF MAKIR [THE] SON OF AMMIEL IN LO DEBAR 4“Where is he?” replied the king. And Ziba said “Indeed, he is in Lo-debar at the house of Machir son of Ammiel.”
5AND HE SENT THE KING DAVID AND HE TOOK HIM FROM [THE] HOUSE OF MAKIR [THE] SON OF AMMIEL FROM LO DEBAR 5So King David had him brought from the house of Machir son of Ammiel in Lo-debar.
6AND HE CAME MEPHIBOSHETH [THE] SON OF JONATHAN [THE] SON OF SAUL TO DAVID AND HE FELL ON FACE HIS AND HE BOWED DOWN AND HE SAID DAVID O MEPHIBOSHETH AND HE SAID HERE! [IS] SERVANT YOUR 6And when Mephibosheth*NoteCloseMephibosheth is also called Merib-baal; see 1 Chronicles 8:34. son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he fell facedown in reverence. Then David said, “Mephibosheth!” “I am your servant,” he replied.
7AND HE SAID TO <THE> HIM DAVID MAY NOT YOU BE AFRAID FOR CERTAINLY <TO DO> I WILL DO WITH YOU COVENANT LOYALTY FOR SAKE OF JONATHAN FATHER YOUR AND I WILL RESTORE TO <THE> YOU <OBJ.> ALL [THE] LAND OF SAUL FATHER YOUR AND YOU YOU WILL EAT FOOD ON TABLE MY CONTINUALLY 7“Do not be afraid,” said David “for surely I will show you kindness for the sake of your father Jonathan. I will restore to you all the land of your grandfather Saul, and you will always eat at my table.”
8AND HE BOWED DOWN AND HE SAID WHAT? [IS] SERVANT YOUR THAT YOU HAVE TURNED TO THE DOG <THE> DEAD WHO [IS] LIKE ME 8Mephibosheth bowed down and said, “What is your servant, that you should show regard for a dead dog like me?”
9AND HE SUMMONED THE KING <TO> ZIBA [THE] SERVANT OF SAUL AND HE SAID TO HIM ALL THAT IT BELONGED TO SAUL AND TO ALL HOUSEHOLD HIS I HAVE GIVEN TO [THE] SON OF MASTER<S> YOUR 9Then the king summoned Saul’s servant Ziba and said to him, “I have given to your master’s grandson all that belonged to Saul and to all his house.
10AND YOU WILL WORK FOR <THE> HIM <OBJ.> THE LAND YOU AND SONS YOUR AND SERVANTS YOUR AND YOU WILL BRING AND IT WILL BE FOR [THE] SON OF MASTER<S> YOUR FOOD AND HE WILL EAT IT AND MEPHIBOSHETH [THE] SON OF MASTER<S> YOUR HE WILL EAT CONTINUALLY FOOD ON TABLE MY AND [BELONGED] TO ZIBA FIF- TEEN SONS AND TWENTY SERVANTS 10You and your sons and servants are to work the ground for him and bring in the harvest, so that your master’s grandson may have food to eat. But Mephibosheth, your master’s grandson, is always to eat at my table.” Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants.
11AND HE SAID ZIBA TO THE KING ACCORDING TO ALL THAT HE WILL COMMAND LORD MY THE KING <OBJ.> SERVANT HIS SO HE WILL DO SERVANT YOUR AND MEPHIBOSHETH [WAS] EATING ON TABLE MY LIKE ONE FROM [THE] CHILDREN OF THE KING 11And Ziba said to the king, “Your servant will do all that my lord the king has commanded.” So Mephibosheth ate at David’s table*NoteCloseLXX; Hebrew my table like one of the king’s own sons.
12AND [BELONGED] TO MEPHIBOSHETH A SON YOUNG AND NAME HIS [WAS] MICA AND EVERY <THE> RESIDENT OF [THE] HOUSE OF ZIBA [WERE] SERVANTS OF MEPHIBOSHETH 12And Mephibosheth had a young son named Mica,*NoteCloseMica is a variant of Micah; see 1 Chronicles 8:34. and all who dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants of Mephibosheth.
13AND MEPHIBOSHETH [WAS] DWELLING IN JERUSALEM FOR ON [THE] TABLE OF THE KING CONTINUALLY HE [WAS] EATING AND HE [WAS] LAME [THE] TWO FEET HIS 13So Mephibosheth lived in Jerusalem, because he always ate at the king’s table, and he was lame in both feet.
