22THAT EXCEPT CERTAINLY <TO REJECT> YOU HAVE REJECTED US YOU ARE ANGRY TOWARDS US UP TO MUCHNESS 22unless You have utterly rejected us and remain angry with us beyond measure.
1AND IT WAS IN THIRTY YEAR IN THE FOURTH [MONTH] ON [DAY] FIVE OF THE MONTH AND I [WAS] IN AMONG THE EXILE[S] AT [THE] RIVER OF KEBAR THEY WERE OPENED THE HEAVENS AND I SAW VISIONS OF GOD Ezekiel’s Vision by the River Kebar (Psalm 137:1–9) 1In the thirtieth year, on the fifth day of the fourth month, while I was among the exiles by the River Kebar, the heavens opened and I saw visions of God.*NoteCloseOr from God
2ON [DAY] FIVE OF THE MONTH IT [WAS] THE YEAR <THE> FIFTH OF [THE] EXILE OF THE KING JEHOIACHIN 2On the fifth day of the month— it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin—
3EXPRESSLY <COME> IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO EZEKIEL [THE] SON OF BUZI THE PRIEST IN [THE] LAND OF [THE] CHALDEANS AT [THE] RIVER OF KEBAR AND IT WAS ON HIM THERE [THE] HAND OF YAHWEH 3the word of the LORD came directly to Ezekiel the priest, the son of Buzi, in the land of the Chaldeans*NoteCloseThat is, the Babylonians by the River Kebar. And there the LORD’s hand was upon him.
4AND I SAW AND THERE! A WIND OF STORM [WAS] COMING FROM THE NORTH A CLOUD GREAT AND FIRE FLASHING AND BRIGHTNESS [BELONGED] TO IT ALL AROUND AND [WAS] FROM [THE] MIDDLE OF IT LIKE [THE] APPEARANCE OF <THE> SHINING SUBSTANCE FROM [THE] MIDDLE OF THE FIRE The Four Living Creatures 4I looked and saw a whirlwind coming from the north, a great cloud with fire flashing back and forth and brilliant light all around it. In the center of the fire was a gleam like amber,*NoteCloseOr The center of the fire looked like glowing metal; similarly in verse 27
5AND [WAS] FROM [THE] MIDDLE OF IT A LIKENESS OF FOUR LIVING CREATURES AND THIS [WAS] APPEARANCE THEIR A LIKENESS OF A HUMAN [BELONGED] TO THEM 5and within it was the form of four living creatures. And this was their appearance: They had a human form,
6AND FOUR FACES [BELONGED] TO ONE AND FOUR WINGS [BELONGED] TO ONE OF THEM 6but each had four faces and four wings.
7AND FEET THEIR [WAS] A FOOT STRAIGHT AND [THE] SOLE OF FEET THEIR [WAS] LIKE [THE] SOLE OF [THE] FOOT OF A CALF AND [THEY WERE] GLEAMING LIKE [THE] APPEARANCE OF BRONZE BURNISHED 7Their legs were straight, and the soles of their feet were like the hooves of a calf, gleaming like polished bronze.
8AND [THE] HANDS OF A HUMAN [WERE] <FROM> UNDER WINGS THEIR ON [THE] FOUR SIDES THEIR AND FACES THEIR AND WINGS THEIR [BELONGED] TO [THE] FOUR OF THEM 8Under their wings on their four sides they had human hands. All four living creatures had faces and wings,
9[WERE] TOUCHING EACH <TO> SISTER ITS WINGS THEIR NOT THEY TURNED WHEN MOVED THEY EACH TO [THE] SIDE OF FACE ITS THEY MOVED 9and their wings were touching one another. They did not turn as they moved; each one went straight ahead.
10AND [THE] LIKENESS OF FACES THEIR [WAS THE] FACE OF A HUMAN AND [THE] FACE OF A LION TO THE RIGHT [SIDE] [BELONGED] TO [THE] FOUR OF THEM AND [THE] FACE OF AN OX FROM THE LEFT [SIDE] [BELONGED] TO [THE] FOUR OF THEM AND [THE] FACE OF AN EAGLE [BELONGED] TO [THE] FOUR OF THEM 10The form of their faces was that of a man, and each of the four had the face of a lion on the right side, the face of an ox on the left side, and also the face of an eagle.
11AND FACES THEIR AND WINGS THEIR [WERE] SPREAD OUT FROM TO ABOVE <TOWARDS> <TO> EACH TWO [WINGS] [WERE] TOUCHING EACH AND TWO [WINGS] [WERE] COVERING <OBJ.> BODIES THEIR 11Such were their faces. Their wings were spread upward; each had two wings touching the wings of the creature on either side, and two wings covering its body.
12AND EACH TO [THE] SIDE OF FACE ITS THEY MOVED TO WHERE IT WAS THERE <TOWARDS> THE SPIRIT [ABOUT] TO GO THEY MOVED NOT THEY TURNED WHEN MOVED THEY 12Each creature went straight ahead. Wherever. the spirit would go, they would go, without turning as they moved.
13AND [THE] LIKENESS OF THE LIVING CREATURES APPEARANCE THEIR [WAS] LIKE COALS OF FIRE BURNING LIKE [THE] APPEARANCE OF <THE> TORCHES IT [WAS] MOVING ABOUT BETWEEN THE LIVING CREATURES AND BRIGHTNESS [BELONGED] TO THE FIRE AND FROM THE FIRE [WAS] COMING OUT LIGHTNING 13In the midst of the living creatures was the appearance of glowing coals of fire, or of torches. Fire moved back and forth between the living creatures; it was bright, and lightning flashed out of it.
14AND THE LIVING CREATURES THEY WERE RUNNING AND THEY WERE RETURNING LIKE [THE] APPEARANCE OF <THE> LIGHTNING 14The creatures were darting back and forth as quickly as flashes of lightning.
15AND I SAW THE LIVING CREATURES AND THERE! A WHEEL ONE [WAS] ON THE GROUND BESIDE THE LIVING CREATURES FOR [THE] FOUR FACES ITS The Four Wheels 15When I looked at the living creatures, I saw a wheel on the ground beside each creature with its four faces.
16[THE] APPEARANCE OF THE WHEELS AND CONSTRUCTION<S> THEIR [WAS] LIKE [THE] APPEARANCE OF CHRYSOLITE AND A LIKENESS ONE [BELONGED] TO [THE] FOUR OF THEM AND APPEARANCE THEIR AND CONSTRUCTION<S> THEIR [WAS] JUST AS IT WAS THE WHEEL IN [THE] MIDDLE OF THE WHEEL 16The workmanship of the wheels looked like the gleam of beryl, and all four had the same likeness. Their workmanship looked like a wheel within a wheel.
17ON [THE] FOUR SIDES THEIR WHEN MOVED THEY THEY MOVED NOT THEY TURNED WHEN MOVED THEY 17As they moved, they went in any of the four directions, without pivoting as they moved.
18AND RIMS THEIR AND HEIGHT [BELONGED] TO THEM AND FEAR [BELONGED] TO THEM AND RIMS THEIR [WERE] FULL OF EYES ALL AROUND TO [THE] FOUR OF THEM 18Their rims were high and awesome, and all four rims were full of eyes all around.
19AND WHEN MOVED THE LIVING CREATURES THEY MOVED THE WHEELS BESIDE THEM AND WHEN WERE LIFTED UP THE LIVING CREATURES FROM ON THE GROUND THEY WERE LIFTED UP THE WHEELS 19So as the living creatures moved, the wheels moved beside them, and when the creatures rose from the ground, the wheels also rose.
20TO WHERE IT WAS THERE THE SPIRIT [ABOUT] TO GO THEY MOVED THERE TOWARDS THE SPIRIT TO GO AND THE WHEELS THEY WERE LIFTED UP <TO> CLOSE BY THEM FOR [THE] SPIRIT OF THE LIVING CREATURE [WAS] IN THE WHEELS 20Wherever. the spirit would go, they would go, and the wheels would rise alongside them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
21WHEN MOVED THEY THEY MOVED AND WHEN STOOD STILL THEY THEY STOOD STILL AND WHEN WERE LIFTED UP THEY FROM ON THE GROUND THEY WERE LIFTED UP THE WHEELS <TO> CLOSE BY THEM FOR [THE] SPIRIT OF THE LIVING CREATURE [WAS] IN THE WHEELS 21When the creatures moved, the wheels moved; when the creatures stood still, the wheels stood still; and when the creatures rose from the ground, the wheels rose alongside them, because the spirit of the living creatures was in the wheels.
22AND A LIKENESS [WAS] ABOVE [THE] HEADS OF THE LIVING CREATURE AN EXPANSE LIKE [THE] APPEARANCE OF <THE> FROST <THE> AWESOME SPREAD OUT ABOVE HEADS THEIR FROM TO ABOVE <TOWARDS> The Divine Glory 22Spread out above the heads of the living creatures was the likeness of an awesome expanse, gleaming like crystal.
23AND UNDER THE EXPANSE WINGS THEIR [WERE] STRAIGHT EACH TO SISTER ITS [BELONGED] TO EACH TWO [WINGS] COVERING <TO> THEM <AND> [BELONGED] TO EACH TWO [WINGS] COVERING <TO> THEM <OBJ.> BODIES THEIR 23And under the expanse, their wings stretched out toward one another. Each one also had two wings covering its body.
24AND I HEARD <OBJ.> [THE] SOUND OF WINGS THEIR LIKE [THE] SOUND OF WATERS MANY LIKE [THE] SOUND OF [THE] ALMIGHTY WHEN MOVED THEY [THE] SOUND OF A RAINSTORM LIKE [THE] SOUND OF AN ARMY WHEN STOOD STILL THEY THEY LET DROP WINGS THEIR 24When the creatures moved, I heard the sound of their wings like the roar of many waters, like the voice of the Almighty,*NoteCloseHebrew Shaddai like the tumult of an army. When they stood still, they lowered their wings.
25AND IT CAME A SOUND <FROM> ABOVE <TO> THE EXPANSE WHICH [WAS] ABOVE HEAD THEIR WHEN STOOD STILL THEY THEY LET DROP WINGS THEIR 25And there came a voice from above the expanse over their heads as they stood still with their wings lowered.
26AND [WAS] FROM ABOVE <TO> THE EXPANSE WHICH [WAS] ABOVE HEAD THEIR LIKE [THE] APPEARANCE OF A STONE OF SAPPHIRE [THE] LIKENESS OF A THRONE AND [WAS] ON [THE] LIKENESS OF THE THRONE A LIKENESS LIKE [THE] APPEARANCE OF A HUMAN ON IT FROM TO ABOVE <TOWARDS> 26Above the expanse over their heads was the likeness of a throne with the appearance of sapphire, and on the throne high above was a figure like that of a man.
27AND I SAW LIKE [THE] APPEARANCE OF A SHINING SUBSTANCE LIKE [THE] APPEARANCE OF FIRE WITHIN TO IT [WAS] ALL AROUND FROM [THE] APPEARANCE OF HIPS HIS AND <TO> UPWARDS <TOWARDS> AND FROM [THE] APPEARANCE OF HIPS HIS AND <TO> DOWNWARDS I SAW LIKE [THE] APPEARANCE OF FIRE AND BRIGHTNESS OF HIM [WAS] ALL AROUND 27From what seemed to be His waist up, I saw a gleam like amber, with what looked like fire within it all around. And from what seemed to be His waist down, I saw what looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded Him.
28LIKE [THE] APPEARANCE OF <THE> RAINBOW WHICH IT IS IN THE CLOUD[S] ON [THE] DAY OF <THE> RAIN SO [THE] APPEARANCE OF THE BRIGHTNESS ALL AROUND THAT [WAS] [THE] APPEARANCE OF [THE] LIKENESS OF [THE] GLORY OF YAHWEH AND I SAW [IT] AND I FELL ON FACE MY AND I HEARD A VOICE SPEAKING 28The appearance of the brilliant light all around Him was like that of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the LORD. And when I saw it, I fell facedown and heard a voice speaking.
