27AND WHEN SPEAK I WITH YOU I WILL OPEN <OBJ.> MOUTH YOUR AND YOU WILL SAY TO THEM THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH THE [ONE WHO] HEARS LET HIM HEAR AND THE [PERSON] WHO REFRAINS LET HIM REFRAIN FOR [ARE] A HOUSE OF REBELLION THEY 27But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you are to tell them, ‘This is what the Lord GOD says.’ Whoever listens, let him listen; and whoever refuses, let him refuse, for they are a rebellious house. 1AND YOU O SON OF HUMANKIND TAKE <FOR> YOURSELF A BRICK AND YOU WILL SET <OBJ.> IT <TO> BEFORE YOU AND YOU WILL INSCRIBE ON IT A CITY <OBJ.> JERUSALEM A Sign of Jerusalem’s Siege 1“Now you, son of man, take a brick, place it before you, and draw on it the city of Jerusalem.
2AND YOU WILL MAKE ON IT A SIEGE AND YOU WILL BUILD ON IT A SIEGE-WALL AND YOU WILL POUR OUT ON IT A MOUND AND YOU WILL SET UP ON IT ARMIES AND SET ON IT BATTERING-RAMS ALL AROUND 2Then lay siege against it: Construct a siege wall, build a ramp to it, set up camps against it, and place battering rams around it on all sides.
3AND YOU TAKE <FOR> YOURSELF A BAKING TRAY OF IRON AND YOU WILL MAKE <OBJ.> IT A WALL OF IRON BETWEEN YOU AND BETWEEN THE CITY AND YOU WILL DIRECT <OBJ.> FACE YOUR TO IT AND IT WILL BE IN <THE> STATE OF SIEGE AND YOU WILL LAY SIEGE ON IT [WILL BE] A SIGN IT FOR [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL 3Then take an iron plate and set it up as an iron wall between yourself and the city. Turn your face toward it so that it is under siege, and besiege it. This will be a sign to the house of Israel.
4AND YOU LIE DOWN ON SIDE YOUR <THE> LEFT AND YOU WILL PUT <OBJ.> [THE] INIQUITY OF [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL ON IT [THE] NUMBER OF THE DAYS WHICH YOU WILL LIE ON IT YOU WILL BEAR <OBJ.> INIQUITY THEIR 4Then lie down on your left side and place the iniquity of the house of Israel upon yourself. You are to bear their iniquity for the number of days you lie on your side.
5AND I I HAVE ASSIGNED TO YOU <OBJ.> [THE] YEARS OF INIQUITY THEIR TO [THE] NUMBER OF DAYS THREE HUNDREDS AND NINETY DAY[S] AND YOU WILL BEAR [THE] INIQUITY OF [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL 5For I have assigned to you 390 days, according to the number of years of their iniquity. So you shall bear the iniquity of the house of Israel.
6AND YOU WILL COMPLETE <OBJ.> THESE AND YOU WILL LIE DOWN ON SIDE YOUR <THE> RIGHT A SECOND [TIME] AND YOU WILL BEAR <OBJ.> [THE] INIQUITY OF [THE] HOUSE OF JUDAH FORTY DAY[S] A DAY FOR THE YEAR A DAY FOR THE YEAR I HAVE ASSIGNED IT TO YOU 6When you have completed these days, lie down again, but on your right side, and bear the iniquity of the house of Judah. I have assigned to you 40 days, a day for each year.
7AND TO [THE] SIEGE OF JERUSALEM YOU WILL DIRECT FACE YOUR AND ARM YOUR [WILL BE] BARED AND YOU WILL PROPHESY ON IT 7You must turn your face toward the siege of Jerusalem with your arm bared, and prophesy against it.
8AND THERE! I WILL PUT ON YOU ROPES AND NOT YOU WILL TURN YOURSELF FROM SIDE YOUR TO SIDE YOUR UNTIL COMPLETING YOU [THE] DAYS OF SIEGE YOUR 8Now behold, I will tie you up with ropes so you cannot turn from side to side until you have finished the days of your siege.
9AND YOU TAKE <FOR> YOURSELF WHEAT<S> AND BARLEY<S> AND BEAN[S] AND LENTILS AND MILLET AND SPELT<S> AND YOU WILL PUT <OBJ.> THEM IN A VESSEL ONE AND YOU WILL MAKE <OBJ.> THEM FOR <THE> YOURSELF INTO BREAD [THE] NUMBER OF THE DAYS WHICH YOU [WILL BE] LYING ON SIDE YOUR THREE HUNDREDS AND NINETY DAY[S] YOU WILL EAT IT The Defiled Bread 9But take wheat, barley, beans, lentils, millet, and spelt; put them in a single container and make them into bread for yourself. This is what you are to eat during the 390 days. you lie on your side.
10AND FOOD YOUR WHICH YOU WILL EAT IT BY WEIGHT [WILL BE] TWENTY SHEKEL[S] TO THE DAY FROM TIME TO TIME YOU WILL EAT IT 10You are to weigh out twenty shekels of food*NoteClose20 shekels is approximately 8 ounces or 228 grams of food. to eat each day, and you are to eat it at set times.
11AND WATER BY MEASURE YOU WILL DRINK <THE> SIXTH OF <THE> HIN FROM TIME TO TIME YOU WILL DRINK [IT] 11You are also to measure out a sixth of a hin of water*NoteCloseA sixth of a hin is approximately 0.65 quarts or 0.61 liters of water. to drink, and you are to drink it at set times.
12AND A BREAD CAKE OF BARLEY<S> YOU WILL EAT IT AND IT IN [THE] DUNG<S> OF [THE] EXCREMENT OF <THE> HUMANKIND YOU WILL BAKE IT TO EYES THEIR 12And you shall eat the food as you would a barley cake, after you bake it over dried human excrement in the sight of the people.”
13AND HE SAID YAHWEH THUS THEY WILL EAT [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL <OBJ.> BREAD THEIR UNCLEAN AMONG THE NATIONS WHERE I WILL BANISH THEM THERE 13Then the LORD said, “This is how the Israelites will eat their defiled bread among the nations to which I will banish them
14AND I SAID ALAS! O LORD YAHWEH HERE! SELF MY NOT [HAS BEEN] MADE UNCLEAN AND A CARCASS AND A TORN ANIMAL NOT I HAVE EATEN SINCE YOUTH<S> MY AND UNTIL NOW AND NOT IT HAS GONE IN MOUTH MY [THE] FLESH OF UNCLEAN MEAT 14“Ah, Lord GOD,” I said,. 16AND HE SAID TO ME O SON OF HUMANKIND HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO BREAK [THE] STAFF OF BREAD IN JERUSALEM AND THEY WILL EAT BREAD BY WEIGHT AND IN ANXIETY AND WATER BY MEASURE AND IN HORROR THEY WILL DRINK 16Then He told me, “Son of man, I am going to cut off the supply*NoteCloseHebrew staff of food in Jerusalem. They will anxiously eat bread rationed by weight, and in despair they will drink water by measure.
17SO THAT THEY MAY LACK BREAD AND WATER AND THEY WILL BE APPALLED EVERYONE AND BROTHER HIS AND THEY WILL WASTE AWAY IN INIQUITY THEIR 17So they will lack food and water; they will be appalled at the sight of one another wasting away in their iniquity. [’’]
