Chambers for the Priests
1 Then the man led me out northward into the outer court, and he brought me to the group of chambers opposite the temple courtyard and the outer wall on the north side.
2 TO [THE] FACE OF LENGTH CUBITS THE HUNDRED [THE] ENTRANCE OF THE NORTH AND THE BREADTH [WAS] FIFTY CUBITS
2 The building with the door facing north was a hundred cubits long and fifty cubits wide.
3 BEFORE THE TWENTY [CUBITS] WHICH [BELONGED] TO THE COURTYARD <THE> INNER AND BEFORE [THE] PAVEMENT WHICH [BELONGED] TO THE COURTYARD <THE> OUTER A GALLERY [WAS] TO [THE] FACE OF A GALLERY IN THE THIRDS
3 Gallery faced gallery in three levels opposite the twenty cubits that belonged to the inner court and opposite the pavement that belonged to the outer court.
4 AND [WAS] <TO> BEFORE THE ROOMS A PASSAGE OF TEN CUBITS BREADTH TO THE INNER [COURT] A WAY OF A CUBIT ONE AND ENTRANCES THEIR [WERE] TO THE NORTH
4 In front of the chambers was an inner walkway ten cubits wide and a hundred cubits long. Their doors were on the north.
5 AND THE ROOMS <THE> UPPER [WERE] SHORT FOR THEY CONSUMED GALLERIES FROM THEM MORE THAN THE LOWER [ROOMS] AND MORE THAN THE MIDDLE [ROOMS] [THE] STRUCTURE
5 Now the upper chambers were smaller because the galleries took more space from the chambers on the lower and middle floors of the building.
6 FOR [WERE] DIVIDED INTO THREE PARTS THEY AND NOT [BELONGED] TO THEM COLUMNS LIKE [THE] COLUMNS OF THE COURTYARDS THERE- -FORE IT WAS SHORTENED MORE THAN THE LOWER [ROOMS] AND MORE THAN THE MIDDLE [ROOMS] FROM THE GROUND
6 For they were arranged in three stories, and unlike the courts, they had no pillars. So the upper chambers were set back further than the lower and middle floors
7 AND [THE] WALL WHICH [WAS] TO THE OUTSIDE <TO> CLOSE TO THE ROOMS [THE] DIRECTION OF THE COURTYARD <THE> OUTER TO [THE] FACE OF THE ROOMS LENGTH ITS [WAS] FIFTY CUBIT[S]
7 An outer wall in front of the chambers was fifty cubits long and ran parallel to the chambers and the outer court.
8 FOR [THE] LENGTH OF THE ROOMS WHICH [BELONGED] TO THE COURTYARD <THE> OUTER [WAS] FIFTY CUBIT[S] AND THERE! ON [THE] FACE OF THE TEMPLE A HUNDRED CUBIT[S]
8 For the chambers on the outer court were fifty cubits long, while those facing the temple were a hundred cubits long.
9 AND [WAS] FROM UNDER THE ROOMS <THE> THESE THE [ONE] BRINGING FROM THE EAST WHEN COMES HE TO THEM FROM THE COURTYARD <THE> OUTER
9 And below these chambers was the entrance on the east side as one enters them from the outer court.
10 IN [THE] BREADTH OF [THE] WALL OF THE COURTYARD [THE] DIRECTION OF THE EAST [WERE] TO [THE] FACE OF THE SEPARATE PLACE AND TO [THE] FACE OF THE STRUCTURE ROOMS
10 On the south side along the length of the wall of the outer court were chambers adjoining the courtyard and opposite the building,
11 AND A WAY [WAS] <TO> BEFORE THEM LIKE [THE] APPEARANCE OF THE ROOMS WHICH [WERE] [THE] DIRECTION OF THE NORTH LIKE LENGTH THEIR [WAS] SO BREADTH THEIR AND ALL EXITS THEIR AND LIKE PLANS THEIR AND LIKE ENTRANCES THEIR
11 with a passageway in front of them, just like the chambers that were on the north. They had the same length and width, with similar exits and dimensions.
12 AND LIKE [THE] ENTRANCES OF THE ROOMS WHICH [WERE] [THE] DIRECTION OF THE SOUTH AN ENTRANCE [WAS] AT [THE] HEAD OF A WAY A WAY IN FRONT OF THE WALL CORRESPONDING [THE] DIRECTION OF THE EAST WHEN COME [TO] THEM
12 And corresponding to the doors of the chambers that were facing south, there was a door in front of the walkway that was parallel to the wall extending eastward.
13 AND HE SAID TO ME [THE] ROOMS OF THE NORTH [THE] ROOMS OF THE SOUTH WHICH [ARE] TO [THE] FACE OF THE SEPARATE PLACE THEY [ARE] [THE] ROOMS OF <THE> HOLINESS WHERE THEY WILL EAT THERE THE PRIESTS WHO [ARE] NEAR TO YAHWEH [THE] HOLY THINGS OF THE HOLY THINGS THERE THEY WILL SET DOWN [THE] HOLY THINGS OF THE HOLY THINGS AND THE GRAIN OFFERING AND THE SIN OFFERING AND THE GUILT OFFERING FOR THE PLACE [IS] HOLY
13 Then the man said to me, “The north and south chambers facing the temple courtyard are the holy chambers where the priests who approach the LORD will eat the most holy offerings. There they will place the most holy offerings the grain offerings, the sin offerings, and the guilt offerings— for the place is holy.
14 WHEN GO THEY THE PRIESTS AND NOT THEY WILL GO OUT FROM THE HOLY PLACE INTO THE COURTYARD <THE> OUTER AND THERE THEY WILL SET DOWN CLOTHES THEIR WHICH THEY WILL SERVE IN THEM FOR [ARE] A HOLY THING THEY AND THEY WILL PUT ON CLOTHES OTHER AND THEY WILL DRAW NEAR TO [THAT] WHICH [IS] FOR THE PEOPLE
14 Once the priests have entered the holy area, they must not go out into the outer court until they have left behind the garments in which they minister for these are holy. They are to put on other clothes before they approach the places that are for the people.”
15 AND HE HAD COMPLETED <OBJ.> [THE] MEASUREMENTS OF THE HOUSE <THE> INNER AND HE BROUGHT OUT ME [THE] WAY OF THE GATE WHICH FACE ITS [WAS] [THE] DIRECTION OF THE EAST AND HE MEASURED IT ALL AROUND ALL AROUND
The Outer Measurements
15 Now when the man had finished measuring the interior of the temple area, he led me out by the gate that faced east, and he measured the area all around:
16 HE MEASURED [THE] SIDE OF THE EAST WITH [THE] REED OF <THE> MEASUREMENT FIVE HUNDRED<S> REEDS BY [THE] REED OF <THE> MEASUREMENT ALL AROUND
16 With a measuring rod he measured the east side to be five hundred cubits long.
17 HE MEASURED [THE] SIDE OF THE NORTH FIVE HUNDRED<S> REEDS BY [THE] REED OF <THE> MEASUREMENT ALL AROUND
17 He measured the north side to be five hundred cubits long.
18 <OBJ.> [THE] SIDE OF THE SOUTH HE MEASURED FIVE HUNDRED<S> REEDS BY [THE] REED OF <THE> MEASUREMENT
18 He measured the south side to be five hundred cubits long
19 HE TURNED TO [THE] SIDE OF THE SEA HE MEASURED [IT] FIVE HUNDRED<S> REEDS BY [THE] REED OF <THE> MEASUREMENT
19 And he came around and measured the west side to be five hundred cubits long
20 TO FOUR SIDES HE MEASURED IT A WALL [BELONGED] TO IT ALL AROUND ALL AROUND [THE] LENGTH [WAS] FIVE HUNDRED [CUBITS] AND [THE] BREADTH [WAS] FIVE HUNDRED [CUBITS] TO MAKE A DISTINCTION BETWEEN <THE> HOLY THING AND A PROFANE THING
20 So he measured the area on all four sides. It had a wall all around, five hundred cubits long and five hundred cubits wide, to separate the holy from the common.
