1 AND IT ARRIVED THE MONTH <THE> SEVENTH AND [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL [WERE] IN THE CITIES AND THEY GATHERED THE PEOPLE LIKE A MAN ONE TO JERUSALEM
Sacrifices Restored
1 By the seventh month, the Israelites had settled in their towns, and the people assembled as one man in Jerusalem.
2 AND HE AROSE JESHUA [THE] SON OF JOZADAK AND BROTHERS HIS THE PRIESTS AND ZERUBBABEL [THE] SON OF SHEALTIEL AND BROTHERS HIS AND THEY REBUILT <OBJ.> [THE] ALTAR OF [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL TO OFFER UP ON IT BURNT OFFERINGS ACCORDING TO <THE> [WHAT] IS WRITTEN IN [THE] LAW OF MOSES [THE] MAN OF <THE> GOD
2 Then Jeshua son of Jozadak and his fellow priests, along with Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel and his associates, began to build the altar of the God of Israel to sacrifice burnt offerings on it, as it is written in the Law of Moses the man of God.
3 AND THEY ESTABLISHED THE ALTAR ON FOUNDATIONS ITS FOR <IN> TERROR [WAS] ON THEM FROM [THE] PEOPLES OF THE LANDS AND THEY OFFERED UP ON IT BURNT OFFERINGS TO YAHWEH BURNT OFFERINGS OF THE MORNING AND OF THE EVENING
3 They set up the altar on its foundation and sacrificed burnt offerings on it to the LORD— both the morning and evening burnt offerings— even though they feared the people of the land.
4 AND THEY CELEBRATED <OBJ.> [THE] FESTIVAL OF <THE> BOOTHS ACCORDING TO <THE> [WHAT] IS WRITTEN AND A BURNT OFFERING OF A DAY IN A DAY BY NUMBER ACCORDING TO [THE] ORDINANCE OF [THE] MATTER OF A DAY IN DAY ITS
4 They also celebrated the Feast of Tabernacles in accordance with what is written, and they offered burnt offerings daily based on the number prescribed for each day.
5 AND AFTER THIS A BURNT OFFERING OF CONTINUITY AND FOR THE NEW MOONS AND FOR ALL [THE] APPOINTED TIMES OF YAHWEH <THE> CONSECRATED AND FOR EVERY [ONE WHO] OFFERED A FREEWILL OFFERING TO YAHWEH
5 After that, they presented the regular burnt offerings and those for New Moons and for all the appointed sacred feasts of the LORD, as well as all the freewill offerings brought to the LORD.
6 FROM DAY ONE OF THE MONTH <THE> SEVENTH THEY BEGAN TO OFFER UP BURNT OFFERINGS TO YAHWEH AND [THE] TEMPLE OF YAHWEH NOT IT WAS FOUNDED
6 On the first day of the seventh month, the Israelites began to offer burnt offerings to the LORD, although the foundation of the temple of the LORD had not been laid.
7 AND PEOPLE GAVE MONEY TO THE MASONS AND TO THE CRAFTSMEN AND FOOD AND DRINK AND OIL TO THE SIDONIANS AND TO THE TYRIANS TO BRING WOOD<S> OF CEDAR<S> FROM <THE> LEBANON TO [THE] SEA OF JOPPA ACCORDING TO [THE] PERMISSION OF CYRUS [THE] KING OF PERSIA TO THEM
7 They gave money to the masons and carpenters, and food and drink and oil to the people of Sidon and Tyre to bring cedar logs from Lebanon to Joppa by sea, as authorized by Cyrus king of Persia.
8 AND IN THE YEAR <THE> SECOND OF COMING THEIR TO [THE] HOUSE OF <THE> GOD TO JERUSALEM IN THE MONTH <THE> SECOND THEY BEGAN ZERUBBABEL [THE] SON OF SHEALTIEL AND JESHUA [THE] SON OF JOZADAK AND [THE] REST OF BROTHERS THEIR THE PRIESTS AND THE LEVITES AND ALL THOSE [WHO] HAD COME FROM THE CAPTIVITY JERUSALEM AND THEY APPOINTED <OBJ.> THE LEVITES FROM A SON OF TWENTY YEAR[S] AND UP -WARDS TO ACT AS OVERSEERS OVER [THE] WORK OF [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH
Temple Restoration Begins
8 In the second month of the second year after they had arrived at the house of God in Jerusalem, Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, Jeshua son of Jozadak, and the rest of their associates including the priests, the Levites, and all who had returned to Jerusalem from the captivity, began the work. They appointed Levites twenty years of age or older to supervise the construction of the house of the LORD.
9 AND HE STOOD JESHUA SONS HIS AND BROTHERS HIS KADMIEL AND SONS HIS [THE] SONS OF JUDAH AS ONE TO ACT AS OVERSEERS OVER [THE] DOER OF THE WORK ON [THE] HOUSE OF <THE> GOD [THE] SONS OF HENADAD SONS THEIR AND BROTHERS THEIR THE LEVITES
9 So Jeshua and his sons and brothers, Kadmiel and his sons (descendants of Yehudah), and the sons of Henadad and their sons and brothers— all Levites— joined together to supervise those working on the house of God.
10 AND THEY FOUNDED THE BUILDERS <OBJ.> [THE] TEMPLE OF YAHWEH AND THEY APPOINTED THE PRIESTS FULLY CLOTHED WITH <THE> TRUMPETS AND THE LEVITES [THE] SONS OF ASAPH WITH <THE> CYMBALS TO PRAISE <OBJ.> YAHWEH ON [THE] HANDS OF DAVID [THE] KING OF ISRAEL
10 When the builders had laid the foundation of the temple of the LORD, the priests in their apparel with trumpets, and the Levites (the sons of Asaph) with cymbals, took their positions to praise the LORD, as David king of Israel had prescribed.
11 AND THEY SANG WITH PRAISING AND WITH GIVING THANKS TO YAHWEH FOR [HE IS] GOOD FOR FOR EVER COVENANT LOYALTY HIS [IS] TOWARDS ISRAEL AND ALL THE PEOPLE THEY SHOUTED A SHOUT OF JOY GREAT WITH PRAISING <TO> YAHWEH BECAUSE IT WAS FOUNDED [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH
11 And they sang responsively with praise and thanksgiving to the LORD:
“For He is good;
for His loving devotion to Israel endures forever.”
Then all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD had been laid.
12 AND MANY OF THE PRIESTS AND THE LEVITES AND [THE] HEADS OF THE FATHERS <THE> OLD WHO THEY HAD SEEN <OBJ.> THE HOUSE <THE> FIRST WHEN FOUNDED IT THIS THE HOUSE WITH OWN EYES THEIR [WERE] WEEPING WITH A VOICE GREAT AND MANY [PEOPLE] WITH A SHOUT OF JOY WITH GLADNESS TO LIFT UP A VOICE
12 But many of the older priests, Levites, and family heads who had seen the first temple wept loudly when they saw the foundation of this temple. Still, many others shouted joyfully.
13 AND NOT THE PEOPLE [WERE] RECOGNIZING [THE] SOUND OF [THE] SHOUT OF <THE> HAPPINESS TO [THE] SOUND OF [THE] WEEPING OF THE PEOPLE FOR THE PEOPLE [WERE] SHOUTING A SHOUT OF JOY GREAT AND THE SOUND IT WAS HEARD TO <TO> FROM A DISTANCE
13 The people could not distinguish the shouts of joy from the sound of weeping, because the people were making so much noise. And the sound was heard from afar.
