2AND SLAUGHTERING REBELS THEY HAVE MADE DEEP AND I [AM] DISCIPLINE TO ALL OF THEM 2The rebels are deep in slaughter; but I will chastise them all.

For now, O Ephraim, you have turned to prostitution; Israel is defiled.
4NOT THEY PERMIT DEEDS THEIR TO RETURN TO GOD THEIR FOR A SPIRIT OF PROSTITUTION<S> [IS] IN INNER BEING THEIR AND <OBJ.> YAHWEH NOT THEY KNOW 4Their deeds do not permit them to return to their God, for a spirit of prostitution is within them, and they do not know the LORD.
5AND IT TESTIFIES [THE] PRIDE OF ISRAEL IN FACE ITS AND ISRAEL AND EPHRAIM THEY WILL STUMBLE ON INIQUITY THEIR IT WILL STUMBLE ALSO JUDAH WITH THEM 5Israel’s arrogance testifies against them; Israel and Ephraim stumble in their iniquity; even Judah stumbles with them.
6WITH FLOCK[S] THEIR AND WITH HERD[S] THEIR THEY WILL GO TO SEEK <OBJ.> YAHWEH AND NOT THEY WILL FIND [HIM] HE HAS WITHDRAWN FROM THEM 6They go with their flocks and herds to seek the LORD, but they do not find Him; He has withdrawn Himself from them.
7WITH YAHWEH THEY HAVE DEALT TREACHEROUSLY FOR CHILDREN STRANGE THEY HAVE BORNE NOW IT WILL DEVOUR THEM A NEW MOON WITH PORTIONS THEIR 7They have been unfaithful to the LORD; for they have borne illegitimate children. Now the New Moon*NoteCloseOr their New Moon feast or the coming month will devour them along with their land.
8BLOW A HORN IN <THE> GIBEAH A TRUMPET IN <THE> RAMAH SOUND AN ALARM BETH AVEN AFTER YOU O BENJAMIN 8Blow the ram’s horn in Gibeah, the trumpet in Ramah; raise the battle cry in Beth-aven:*NoteCloseBeth-aven means house of wickedness. This is a derogatory term for Bethel, which means house of God; see 1 Kings 12:28–29. Lead on, O Benjamin!
9EPHRAIM <INTO> A WASTE IT WILL BECOME ON [THE] DAY OF REBUKE AMONG [THE] TRIBES OF ISRAEL I MAKE KNOWN [SOMETHING] TRUSTWORTHY 9Ephraim will be laid waste on the day of rebuke. Among the tribes of Israel I proclaim what is certain.

11[IS] OPPRESSED EPHRAIM [IS] CRUSHED OF JUDGMENT FOR HE WAS DETERMINED HE WALKED AFTER A COMMAND 11Ephraim is oppressed, crushed in judgment, for he is determined to follow worthless idols.*NoteCloseOr to follow human precepts
12AND I [AM] LIKE <THE> MOTH TO EPHRAIM AND LIKE <THE> ROTTENNESS TO [THE] HOUSE OF JUDAH 12So I am like a moth to Ephraim, and like decay to the house of Judah.
13AND HE SAW EPHRAIM <OBJ.> SICKNESS HIS AND JUDAH <OBJ.> WOUND HIS AND HE WENT EPHRAIM TO ASSYRIA AND HE SENT TO KING JAREB AND HE NOT HE IS ABLE TO HEAL <TO> YOU AND NOT IT WILL DEPART FROM YOU [THE] WOUND 13When Ephraim saw his sickness and Judah his wound, then Ephraim turned to Assyria and sent to the great king.*NoteCloseOr to King Jareb But he cannot cure you or heal your wound.
14FOR I [WILL BE] LIKE <THE> LION TO EPHRAIM AND LIKE <THE> YOUNG LION TO [THE] HOUSE OF JUDAH I I I WILL TEAR TO PIECES AND I MAY GO I WILL CARRY OFF AND THERE NOT [WILL BE] A DELIVERER 14For I am like a lion to Ephraim and like a young lion to the house of Judah. I, even I, will tear them to pieces and then go away. I will carry them off where no one can rescue them.
15I WILL GO I WILL RETURN TO PLACE MY UNTIL THAT THEY WILL BE HELD GUILTY AND THEY WILL SEEK FACE MY WHEN <THE> IT IS DISTRESS TO THEM THEY WILL SEEK EARNESTLY ME 15Then I will return to My place until they admit their guilt and seek My face; in their affliction they will earnestly seek Me
