3THE PEOPLE WHO PROVOKE TO ANGER <OBJ.> ME ON FACE MY CONTINUALLY [WHO] SACRIFICE IN <THE> GARDENS AND [WHO] MAKE SMOKE ON THE BRICKS 3to a people who continually provoke Me to My face, sacrificing in the gardens and burning incense on altars of brick,
4WHO SIT AMONG THE GRAVES AND IN <THE> SECRET PLACES THEY SPEND [THE] NIGHT WHO EAT [THE] FLESH OF THE PIG AND BROTH OF UNCLEAN MEAT<S> [IS] VESSELS THEIR 4sitting among the graves, spending nights in secret places, eating the meat of pigs and polluted broth from their bowls.
5WHO SAY DRAW NEAR TO YOURSELF MAY NOT YOU DRAW NEAR TO ME FOR I AM SET APART FROM YOU THESE [PEOPLE] [ARE] SMOKE IN NOSE MY A FIRE [WHICH] BURNS ALL THE DAY 5They say, ‘Keep to yourself; do not come near me, for I am holier than you!’ Such people are smoke in My nostrils, a fire that burns all day long.
6HERE! [IT IS] WRITTEN <TO> BEFORE ME NOT I WILL BE SILENT THAT EXCEPT I WILL REPAY AND I WILL REPAY ON BOSOM THEIR 6Behold, it is written before Me: I will not keep silent, but I will repay; I will pay it back into their laps,
7INIQUITIES YOUR AND [THE] INIQUITIES OF ANCESTORS YOUR TOGETHER HE SAYS YAHWEH WHO THEY MADE SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAINS AND ON THE HILLS THEY TAUNTED ME AND I WILL MEASURE WORK THEIR FIRST INTO BOSOM THEIR 7both for your iniquities and for those of your fathers,” says the LORD. “Because they burned incense on the mountains and scorned Me on the hills, I will measure into their laps full payment for their former deeds.”
8THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH JUST AS IT IS FOUND THE NEW WINE IN THE CLUSTER OF GRAPES AND SOMEONE SAYS MAY NOT YOU DESTROY IT FOR BLESSING [IS] IN IT SO I WILL ACT FOR [THE] SAKE OF SERVANTS MY TO NOT TO DESTROY <THE> EVERYONE 8This is what the LORD says: “As the new wine is found in a cluster of grapes, and men say, ‘Do not destroy it, for it contains a blessing,’ so I will act on behalf of My servants; I will not destroy them all.
9AND I WILL BRING OUT FROM JACOB OFFSPRING AND FROM JUDAH [THE] POSSESSOR OF MOUNTAINS MY AND THEY WILL TAKE POSSESSION OF IT CHOSEN ONES MY AND SERVANTS MY THEY WILL DWELL THERE <TOWARDS> 9And I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, and heirs from Judah; My elect will possess My mountains,*NoteCloseOr and heirs to My mountains out of Judah; My elect will possess them and My servants will dwell there.
10AND IT WILL BECOME <THE> SHARON <INTO> A PASTURE OF SHEEP AND [THE] VALLEY OF ACHOR <INTO> A RESTING PLACE OF CATTLE FOR PEOPLE MY WHO THEY HAVE SOUGHT ME 10Sharon will become a pasture for flocks, and the Valley of Achor a resting place for herds, for My people who seek Me.
11AND YOU [WHO] FORSAKE <OF> YAHWEH <THE> FORGETTING <OBJ.> [THE] MOUNTAIN OF HOLINESS MY WHO ARRANGE FOR <THE> FORTUNE A TABLE AND WHO FILL FOR <THE> DESTINY MIXED WINE 11But you who forsake the LORD, who forget My holy mountain, who set a table for Fortune*NoteCloseHebrew Gad, the Babylonian god of fortune and fill bowls of mixed wine for Destiny,*NoteCloseHebrew Meni, the Babylonian god of fate
12AND I WILL APPOINT <OBJ.> YOU TO THE SWORD AND ALL OF YOU TO THE SLAUGHTER YOU WILL BOW DOWN BECAUSE I CALLED AND NOT YOU ANSWERED I SPOKE AND NOT YOU LISTENED AND YOU DID THE EVIL IN VIEW MY AND <IN> [THAT] WHICH NOT I DESIRED YOU CHOSE 12I will destine you for the sword, and you will all kneel down to be slaughtered, because I called and you did not answer, I spoke and you did not listen; you did evil in My sight and chose that in which I did not delight.”
13<TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH HERE! SERVANTS MY THEY WILL EAT AND YOU YOU WILL BE HUNGRY HERE! SERVANTS MY THEY WILL DRINK AND YOU YOU WILL BE THIRSTY HERE! SERVANTS MY THEY WILL REJOICE AND YOU YOU WILL BE ASHAMED 13Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: “My servants will eat, but you will go hungry; My servants will drink, but you will go thirsty; My servants will rejoice, but you will be put to shame.
14HERE! SERVANTS MY THEY WILL SHOUT FOR JOY FROM GOODNESS OF HEART AND YOU YOU WILL CRY OUT FROM PAIN OF HEART AND FROM BROKENNESS OF SPIRIT YOU WILL WAIL 14My servants will shout for joy with a glad heart, but you will cry out with a heavy heart and wail with a broken spirit.
15AND YOU WILL LEAVE NAME YOUR TO A CURSE TO CHOSEN ONES MY AND HE WILL PUT TO DEATH YOU [THE] LORD YAHWEH AND <TO> SERVANTS HIS HE WILL CALL A NAME ANOTHER 15You will leave behind your name as a curse for My chosen ones, and the Lord GOD will slay you; but to His servants He will give another name.
16THAT THE [ONE WHO] BLESSES HIMSELF IN THE LAND HE WILL BLESS HIMSELF BY [THE] GOD OF SURELY AND THE [ONE WHO] SWEARS AN OATH IN THE LAND HE WILL SWEAR AN OATH BY [THE] GOD OF SURELY THAT THEY WILL BE FORGOTTEN THE TROUBLES <THE> FORMER AND FOR THEY WILL BE HIDDEN FROM EYES MY 16Whoever invokes a blessing in the land will do so by the God of truth, and whoever takes an oath in the land will swear by the God of truth. For the former troubles will be forgotten and hidden from My sight.
17FOR HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO CREATE HEAVENS NEW AND AN EARTH NEW AND NOT THEY WILL BE REMEMBERED THE FORMER [THINGS] AND NOT THEY WILL COME UP ON A HEART A New Heaven and a New Earth (Revelation 21:1–8) 17For behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth.*NoteCloseLXX a new heaven and a new earth; see also Isaiah 66:22 and Revelation 21:1. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.
18THAT EXCEPT REJOICE AND BE GLAD UNTIL PERPETUITY [THAT] WHICH I [AM] ABOUT TO CREATE FOR HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO CREATE <OBJ.> JERUSALEM GLADNESS AND PEOPLE ITS REJOICING 18But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; for I will create Jerusalem to be a joy and its people to be a delight.
19AND I WILL BE GLAD IN JERUSALEM AND I WILL REJOICE IN PEOPLE MY AND NOT IT WILL BE HEARD IN IT AGAIN A SOUND OF WEEPING AND A SOUND OF A CRY OF DISTRESS 19I will rejoice in Jerusalem and take delight in My people. The sounds of weeping and crying will no longer be heard in her.
20NOT IT WILL BE FROM THERE AGAIN A SUCKING CHILD OF DAYS AND AN OLD [PERSON] WHO NOT HE WILL COMPLETE <OBJ.> DAYS HIS FOR THE YOUNG MAN A SON OF ONE HUNDRED YEAR[S] HE WILL DIE AND THE [ONE WHO] MISSES A SON OF ONE HUNDRED YEAR[S] HE WILL BE CURSED 20No longer will a nursing infant live but a few days, or an old man fail to live out his years. For the youth will die at a hundred years, and he who fails to reach a hundred will be considered accursed.
21AND THEY WILL BUILD HOUSES AND THEY WILL DWELL [IN THEM] AND THEY WILL PLANT VINEYARDS AND THEY WILL EAT FRUIT THEIR 21They will build houses and dwell in them; they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
22NOT THEY WILL BUILD AND ANOTHER HE WILL DWELL NOT THEY WILL PLANT AND ANOTHER HE WILL EAT FOR [WILL BE] LIKE [THE] DAYS OF <THE> TREE [THE] DAYS OF PEOPLE MY AND [THE] WORK OF HANDS THEIR THEY WILL USE TO [THE] FULL CHOSEN ONES MY 22No longer will they build houses for others to inhabit, nor plant for others to eat. For as is the lifetime of a tree, so will be the days of My people, and My chosen ones will fully enjoy the work of their hands.
23NOT THEY WILL LABOR TO <THE> EMPTINESS AND NOT THEY WILL FATHER CHILDREN FOR <THE> SUDDEN TERROR FOR [WILL BE] [THE] OFFSPRING OF [THOSE] BLESSED OF YAHWEH THEY AND DESCENDANTS THEIR [WILL BE] WITH THEM 23They will not labor in vain or bear children doomed to disaster; for they will be a people blessed by the LORD— they and their descendants with them.
24AND IT WILL BE BEFORE THEY WILL CALL AND I I WILL ANSWER STILL THEY [WILL BE] SPEAKING AND I I WILL HEAR 24Even before they call, I will answer, and while they are still speaking, I will hear.
25WOLF AND LAMB THEY WILL GRAZE AS ONE AND [THE] LION LIKE THE OX IT WILL EAT STRAW AND A SNAKE [WILL BE] DUST FOOD ITS NOT THEY WILL DO HARM AND NOT THEY WILL DESTROY IN ALL [THE] MOUNTAIN OF HOLINESS MY HE SAYS YAHWEH 25The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox, but the food of the serpent*NoteCloseHebrew nachash; translated in most cases as snake will be dust. They will neither harm nor destroy on all My holy mountain,” says the LORD.
