1AND HE ANSWERED YAHWEH <OBJ.> JOB AND HE SAID Job Humbles Himself before the LORD 1And the LORD said to Job:
2¿ WILL HE CONTEND WITH [THE] ALMIGHTY A FAULTFINDER [ONE WHO] CORRECTS GOD LET HIM ANSWER HIM 2“Will the faultfinder contend with the Almighty? Let him who argues with God give an answer.”
4HERE! I AM INSIGNIFICANT WHAT? WILL I RESPOND TO YOU HAND MY I PUT TO MOUTH MY 4“Behold, I am insignificant. How can I reply to You? I place my hand over my mouth.
5ONE [TIME] I HAVE SPOKEN AND NOT I WILL ANSWER AND TWO [TIMES] AND NOT I WILL REPEAT 5I have spoken once, but I have no answer— twice, but I have nothing to add.”
6AND HE ANSWERED YAHWEH <OBJ.> JOB FROM A TEMPEST AND HE SAID The LORD Challenges Job Again 6Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind and said:
7GIRD UP PLEASE LIKE A MAN LOINS YOUR I WILL ASK YOU AND MAKE KNOWN TO ME 7“Now brace yourself*NoteCloseHebrew gird up your loins like a man; I will question you, and you shall inform Me.*NoteCloseCited in Job 42:4
8¿ EVEN WILL YOU ANNUL JUSTICE MY WILL YOU CONDEMN AS GUILTY? ME SO THAT YOU MAY BE JUSTIFIED 8Would you really annul My justice? Would you condemn Me to justify yourself?
9AND OR? [DOES] AN ARM LIKE <THE> GOD [BELONG] TO YOU? AND WITH A VOICE LIKE HIM WILL YOU THUNDER? 9Do you have an arm like God’s Can you thunder with a voice like His?
10DECK YOURSELF PLEASE MAJESTY AND DIGNITY AND GLORY AND HONOR YOU WILL BE CLOTHED 10Then adorn yourself with majesty and splendor, and clothe yourself with honor and glory.
11SCATTER [THE] FURI<ES> OF ANGER YOUR AND SEE EVERY PROUD [PERSON] AND BRING LOW HIM 11Unleash the fury of your wrath; look on every proud man and bring him low.
12SEE EVERY PROUD [PERSON] HUMBLE HIM AND TREAD DOWN WICKED [PEOPLE] IN PLACE THEIR 12Look on every proud man and humble him; trample the wicked where they stand.
13HIDE THEM IN THE DUST TOGETHER FACES THEIR BIND UP IN THE HIDDEN [PLACE] 13Bury them together in the dust; imprison them in the grave.*NoteCloseOr in the hidden place
14AND ALSO I I WILL PRAISE YOU THAT IT WILL SAVE <TO> YOU RIGHT [HAND] YOUR 14Then I will confess to you that your own right hand can save you.
15THERE! PLEASE BEHEMOTH WHICH I MADE WITH YOU GRASS LIKE <THE> OX IT EATS 15Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you. He feeds on grass like an ox.
16THERE! PLEASE STRENGTH ITS [IS] IN LOINS ITS AND POWER ITS IN [THE] MUSCLES OF BELLY ITS 16See the strength of his loins and the power in the muscles of his belly.
17IT STIFFENS TAIL ITS LIKE A CEDAR [THE] SINEWS OF THIGHS ITS THEY ARE INTERTWINED 17His tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are tightly knit.
18BONES ITS [ARE] TUBES OF BRONZE LIMBS ITS [ARE] LIKE A ROD OF IRON 18His bones are tubes of bronze; his limbs are rods of iron.
19IT [IS] [THE] FIRST OF [THE] WAYS OF GOD THE [ONE WHO] MADE IT LET HIM BRING NEAR SWORD HIS 19He is the foremost of God’s works;*NoteCloseHebrew ways only his Maker can draw the sword against him.
20FOR [THE] BEAST[S] OF [THE] MOUNTAINS THEY CARRY TO IT AND EVERY <THE> ANIMAL OF THE FIELD THEY PLAY THERE 20The hills yield him their produce, while all the beasts of the field play nearby.
21UNDER THORNY LOTUS PLANTS IT LIES IN A HIDING PLACE OF REED[S] AND SWAMP 21He lies under the lotus plants,*NoteCloseOr bramble bushes; also in verse 22 hidden among the reeds of the marsh.
22THEY COVER IT THORNY LOTUS PLANTS SHADE ITS THEY SURROUND IT [THE] POPLARS OF [THE] WADI 22The lotus plants conceal him in their shade; the willows*NoteCloseOr poplars of the brook surround him.
23THERE! IT IS VIOLENT [THE] RIVER NOT IT IS ALARMED IT IS CONFIDENT FOR IT BURSTS FORTH [THE] JORDAN TO MOUTH ITS 23Though the river rages, Behemoth is unafraid; he remains secure, though the Jordan surges to his mouth.
24BY EYES ITS WILL ANYONE TAKE? IT WITH SNARES WILL ANYONE PIERCE? A NOSE 24Can anyone capture him as he looks on, or pierce his nose with a snare? [’’]
