20AND SHE BELONGED [THE] WIFE OF SAMSON TO COMPANION HIS WHO HE WAS A SPECIAL FRIEND TO <THE> HIM 20and his wife was given to one of the men who had accompanied him.
1AND IT WAS FROM DAYS IN [THE] DAYS OF [THE] HARVEST OF WHEAT<S> AND HE VISITED SAMSON <OBJ.> WIFE HIS WITH A KID OF GOATS AND HE SAID LET ME GO INTO WIFE MY THE CHAMBER TOWARDS AND NOT HE PERMITTED HIM FATHER HER TO GO Samson’s Revenge 1Later on, at the time of the wheat harvest, Samson took a young goat and went to visit his wife. “I want to go to my wife in her room,” he said. But her father would not let him enter.
2AND HE SAID FATHER HER CERTAINLY <TO THINK> I THOUGHT THAT CERTAINLY <TO HATE> YOU HATED HER AND I GAVE HER TO COMPANION YOUR ¿ NOT [IS] SISTER HER <THE> YOUNG GOOD MORE THAN HER LET HER BELONG PLEASE TO <THE> YOU IN PLACE OF HER 2“I was sure that you thoroughly hated her said her father, “so I gave her to one of the men who accompanied you. Is not her younger sister more beautiful than she? Please take her instead.”
3AND HE SAID TO <THE> THEM SAMSON I WILL BE FREE THIS TIME FROM [THE] PHILISTINES FOR [AM] ABOUT TO DO I WITH THEM HARM 3Samson said to them, “This time I will be blameless in doing harm to the Philistines.”
4AND HE WENT SAMSON AND HE CAPTURED THREE HUNDRED<S> FOXES AND HE TOOK TORCHES AND HE TURNED TAIL TO TAIL AND HE PUT A TORCH ONE BETWEEN [THE] TWO THE TAILS IN THE MIDDLE 4Then Samson went out and caught three hundred foxes. And he took torches, turned the foxes tail-to-tail and fastened a torch between each pair of tails.
5AND HE KINDLED FIRE ON THE TORCHES AND HE SENT [THEM] AMONG [THE] STANDING GRAIN<S> OF [THE] PHILISTINES AND IT BURNED UP FROM [THE] HEAP OF SHEAVES AND UNTO [THE] STANDING GRAIN AND UNTO [THE] VINEYARD OF OLIVE TREE[S] 5Then he lit the torches and released the foxes into the standing grain of the Philistines, burning up the piles of grain and the standing grain, as well as the vineyards and olive groves.
6AND THEY SAID [THE] PHILISTINES WHO? DID HE DO THIS [THING] AND THEY SAID SAMSON [THE] SON-IN-LAW OF THE TIMNITE FOR HE HAS TAKEN <OBJ.> WIFE HIS AND HE HAS GIVEN HER TO COMPANION HIS AND THEY WENT UP [THE] PHILISTINES AND THEY BURNED <OBJ.> HER AND <OBJ.> FATHER HER WITH <THE> FIRE 6“Who did this?” the Philistines demanded. “It was Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite,” they were told. “For his wife was given to his companion.” So the Philistines went up and burned her and her father to death.
7AND HE SAID TO <THE> THEM SAMSON IF YOU WILL DO! LIKE THIS THAT EXCEPT I HAVE AVENGED MYSELF ON <THE> YOU AND AFTER I WILL CEASE 7And Samson told them, “Because you have done this, I will not rest until I have taken vengeance upon you
8AND HE STRUCK <OBJ.> THEM LEG WITH THIGH A DEFEAT GREAT AND HE WENT DOWN AND HE DWELT IN [THE] CLEFT OF [THE] ROCK OF ETAM 8And he struck them ruthlessly*NoteCloseLiterally he struck them hip and thigh with a great slaughter, and then went down and stayed in the cave at the rock of Etam.
9AND THEY WENT UP [THE] PHILISTINES AND THEY ENCAMPED IN JUDAH AND THEY WERE SPREAD OUT AT <THE> LEHI 9Then the Philistines went up, camped in Judah, and deployed themselves near the town of Lehi.*NoteCloseLiterally and spread out in Lehi
10AND THEY SAID [THE] MAN OF JUDAH <TO> WHY? HAVE YOU COME UP ON US AND THEY SAID TO BIND <OBJ.> SAMSON WE HAVE COME UP TO DO TO <THE> HIM JUST AS HE DID TO <THE> US 10“Why have you attacked us?” said the men of Judah. The Philistines replied, “We have come to arrest Samson and pay him back for what he has done to us.”
11AND THEY WENT DOWN THREE THOUSAND<S> MAN FROM JUDAH TO [THE] CLEFT OF [THE] ROCK OF ETAM AND THEY SAID TO SAMSON ¿ NOT DO YOU KNOW THAT [ARE] RULING OVER <THE> US [THE] PHILISTINES AND WHAT? THIS HAVE YOU DONE TO <THE> US AND HE SAID TO <THE> THEM JUST AS THEY DID TO <THE> ME SO I HAVE DONE TO <THE> THEM 11In response, three thousand men of Judah went to the cave at the rock of Etam, and they asked Samson, “Do you not realize that the Philistines rule over us? What have you done to us?” “I have done to them what they did to me,” he replied
12AND THEY SAID TO <THE> HIM TO BIND YOU WE HAVE COME DOWN TO GIVE YOU IN [THE] HAND OF [THE] PHILISTINES AND HE SAID TO <THE> THEM SAMSON SWEAR TO <THE> ME LEST YOU SHOULD FALL! ON <THE> ME YOU 12But they said to him, “We have come down to arrest you and hand you over to the Philistines.” Samson replied “Swear to me that you will not kill me yourselves.”
13AND THEY SAID TO <THE> HIM <TO> SAYING IN- DEED CERTAINLY <TO BIND> WE WILL BIND YOU AND WE WILL GIVE YOU IN HAND THEIR AND CERTAINLY <TO KILL> NOT WE WILL KILL YOU AND THEY BOUND HIM WITH TWO ROPES NEW AND THEY BROUGHT UP HIM FROM THE ROCK 13“No,” they answered “we will not kill you, but we will tie you up securely and hand you over to them.” So they bound him with two new ropes and led him up from the rock.
14HE [WAS] COMING TO LEHI AND [THE] PHILISTINES THEY SHOUTED TO MEET HIM AND IT RUSHED ON HIM [THE] SPIRIT OF YAHWEH AND THEY BECAME THE ROPES WHICH [WERE] ON ARMS HIS LIKE <THE> FLAX<ES> WHICH PEOPLE HAVE BURNED WITH <THE> FIRE AND THEY DROPPED OFF BONDS HIS FROM ON HANDS HIS 14When Samson arrived in Lehi, the Philistines came out shouting against him. And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him. The ropes on his arms became like burnt flax, and the bonds broke loose from his hands.
15AND HE FOUND A JAWBONE OF A DONKEY FRESH AND HE STRETCHED OUT HAND HIS AND HE TOOK IT AND HE STRUCK DOWN WITH <THE> IT A THOUSAND MAN 15He found the fresh jawbone of a donkey, reached out his hand and took it, and struck down a thousand men.
16AND HE SAID SAMSON WITH [THE] JAWBONE OF THE DONKEY A HEAP TWO HEAPS WITH [THE] JAWBONE OF THE DONKEY I STRUCK DOWN A THOUSAND MAN 16Then Samson said: “With the jawbone of a donkey I have piled them into heaps.*NoteCloseOr I have made them into donkeys With the jawbone of a donkey I have slain a thousand men.”
17AND IT WAS WHEN FINISHED HE TO SPEAK AND HE THREW THE JAWBONE FROM HAND HIS AND HE CALLED <TO> THE PLACE <THE> THAT RAMATH LEHI 17And when Samson had finished speaking, he cast the jawbone from his hand; and he named that place Ramath-lehi.*NoteCloseRamath-lehi means the hill of the jawbone.
18AND HE WAS THIRSTY VERY AND HE CALLED OUT TO YAHWEH AND HE SAID YOU YOU HAVE GIVEN BY [THE] HAND OF SERVANT YOUR <OBJ.> THE VICTORY <THE> GREAT <THE> THIS AND NOW [MUST] I DIE WITH <THE> THIRST AND I FALL IN [THE] HAND OF THE UNCIRCUMCISED [MEN]? 18And being very thirsty, Samson cried out to the LORD, “You have accomplished this great deliverance through Your servant. Must I now die of thirst and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?”
19AND HE SPLIT OPEN GOD <OBJ.> THE DEEP HOLLOW WHICH [IS] AT <THE> LEHI AND THEY CAME OUT FROM IT WATERS AND HE DRANK AND IT RETURNED SPIRIT HIS AND HE LIVED THERE- -FORE HE CALLED NAME ITS EN HAKKORE WHICH [IS] AT <THE> LEHI UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS 19So God opened up the hollow place in Lehi, and water came out of it. When Samson drank, his strength returned, and he was revived. That is why he named it En-hakkore,*NoteCloseEn-hakkore means the spring of him who calls. and it remains in Lehi to this day.
20AND HE JUDGED <OBJ.> ISRAEL IN [THE] DAYS OF [THE] PHILISTINES TWENTY YEAR[S] 20And Samson judged Israel for twenty years in the days of the Philistines.
