1¿ NOT WISDOM DOES SHE CALL OUT AND UNDERSTANDING DOES SHE GIVE FORTH? VOICE HER The Excellence of Wisdom 1Does not wisdom call out, and understanding raise her voice?
2AT [THE] TOP OF [THE] HEIGHTS ON [THE] WAY BETWEEN [THE] PATHWAYS SHE STATIONS HERSELF 2On the heights overlooking the road, at the crossroads she takes her stand.
3TO [THE] SIDE OF [THE] GATES TO [THE] OPENING OF [THE] TOWN [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] DOORWAYS THEY CRY ALOUD 3Beside the gates to the city, at the entrances she cries out:
4TO YOU O PEOPLE I CALL AND VOICE MY [IS] TO [THE] CHILDREN OF HUMANKIND 4“To you, O men, I call out, and my cry is to the sons of men.
5UNDERSTAND O NAIVE PEOPLE PRUDENCE AND O FOOLS UNDERSTAND HEART 5O simple ones, learn to be shrewd; O fools, gain understanding.*NoteCloseOr instruct your minds
6LISTEN FOR PRINCELY THINGS I WILL SPEAK AND [THE] UTTERANCE OF LIPS MY [WILL BE] UPRIGHTNESS<ES> 6Listen, for I speak of noble things, and the opening of my lips will reveal right.
7FOR TRUTH IT WILL UTTER PALATE MY AND [IS] AN ABOMINATION OF LIPS MY WICKEDNESS 7For my mouth will speak the truth, and wickedness is detestable to my lips.
8[ARE] <IN> RIGHTEOUSNESS ALL [THE] WORDS OF MOUTH MY THERE NOT AMONG THEM [IS] A TWISTED [THING] AND A DISTORTED [THING] 8All the words of my mouth are righteous; none are crooked or perverse.
9ALL OF THEM [ARE] RIGHT TO THE DISCERNING [PERSON] AND UPRIGHT TO [THOSE WHO] FIND <OF> KNOWLEDGE 9They are all plain to the discerning, and upright to those who find knowledge.
10TAKE DISCIPLINE MY AND MAY NOT [YOU TAKE] SILVER AND KNOWLEDGE MORE THAN GOLD CHOSEN 10Receive my instruction instead of silver, and knowledge rather than pure gold.
11FOR [IS] GOOD WISDOM MORE THAN JEWELS AND ALL PLEASURES NOT THEY COMPARE WITH IT 11For wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire compares with her.
12I WISDOM I DWELL PRUDENCE AND KNOWLEDGE OF DISCRETION I FIND 12I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence, and I find knowledge and discretion.
13[THE] FEAR OF YAHWEH [IS] TO HATE EVIL PRIDE AND ARROGANCE AND A WAY EVIL AND A MOUTH OF PERVERSITIES I HATE 13To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate arrogant pride, evil conduct, and perverse speech.
14[BELONG] TO ME COUNSEL AND SOUND WISDOM I [AM] UNDERSTANDING [BELONGS] TO ME STRENGTH 14Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have insight and strength.
15BY <THE> ME KINGS THEY REIGN AND RULERS THEY ENACT RIGHTEOUSNESS 15By me kings reign, and rulers enact just laws;
16BY <THE> ME PRINCES THEY RULE AND NOBLE [PEOPLE] ALL JUDGES OF RIGHTEOUSNESS 16By me princes rule, and all nobles who govern justly.*NoteCloseSome Hebrew manuscripts and LXX who govern the earth
17I [THOSE WHO] LOVE ME I LOVE AND [THOSE WHO] EARNESTLY SEEK ME THEY FIND ME 17I love those who love me, and those who seek me early shall find me.
18WEALTH AND HONOR [ARE] WITH ME WEALTH ENDURING AND RIGHTEOUSNESS 18With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and righteousness.
19[IS] GOOD FRUIT MY MORE THAN GOLD AND MORE THAN PURE GOLD AND GAIN MY MORE THAN SILVER CHOSEN 19My fruit is better than gold, pure gold, and my harvest surpasses choice silver.
20IN [THE] PATH OF RIGHTEOUSNESS I WALK IN [THE] MIDST OF [THE] PATHWAYS OF JUSTICE 20I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice,
21TO GIVE AS AN INHERITANCE [THOSE WHO] LOVE ME SUBSTANCE AND TREASURIES THEIR I FILL 21bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full.
22YAHWEH HE CREATED ME [THE] BEGINNING OF WAY HIS [THE] BEGINNING OF WORKS HIS FROM THEN 22The LORD created me as His first course,*NoteCloseOr The LORD possessed me at the beginning of His way before His works of old.
23FROM LONG AGO I WAS INSTALLED FROM [THE] BEGINNING FROM [THE] BEGINNINGS OF [THE] EARTH 23From everlasting I was established, from the beginning, before the earth began.
24WHEN THERE NOT [WERE] [THE] DEEPS I WAS BROUGHT FORTH WHEN THERE NOT [WERE] SPRINGS ABOUNDING OF WATER 24When there were no watery depths, I was brought forth, when no springs were overflowing with water.
25<IN> BEFORE MOUNTAINS THEY WERE PLANTED <TO> BEFORE [THE] HILLS I WAS BROUGHT FORTH 25Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth,
26UNTIL NOT HE HAD MADE [THE] EARTH AND [THE] OPEN PLACES AND [THE] FIRST OF [THE] DUSTS OF [THE] WORLD 26before He made the land or fields, or any of the dust of the earth.
27WHEN ESTABLISHED HE [THE] HEAVENS [WAS] THERE I WHEN MARKED OUT HE A CIRCLE ON [THE] SURFACE OF [THE] DEEP 27I was there when He established the heavens, when He inscribed a circle on the face of the deep,
28WHEN MADE FIRM HE [THE] CLOUDS <FROM> ABOVE WHEN BECAME STRONG [THE] SPRINGS OF [THE] DEEP 28when He established the clouds above, when the fountains of the deep gushed forth,
29WHEN SET HE FOR THE SEA LIMIT ITS AND [THE] WATERS NOT THEY WILL TRANSGRESS MOUTH HIS WHEN MARKED OUT HE [THE] FOUNDATIONS OF [THE] EARTH 29when He set a boundary for the sea, so that the waters would not surpass His command, when He marked out the foundations of the earth.
30AND I WAS BESIDE HIM AN ARTISAN AND I WAS DELIGHT<S> DAY DAY PLAYING <TO> BEFORE HIM AT EVERY TIME 30Then I was a skilled craftsman at His side, and His delight*NoteCloseOr filled with His delight day by day, rejoicing always in His presence.
31PLAYING IN [THE] WORLD OF EARTH HIS AND DELIGHT<S> MY [WERE] WITH [THE] CHILDREN OF HUMANKIND 31I was rejoicing in His whole world, delighting together in the sons of men.
32AND THEREFORE O CHILDREN LISTEN TO ME AND HOW BLESSED! [ARE THOSE WHO] WAYS MY THEY OBSERVE 32Now therefore, my sons, listen to me, for blessed are those who keep my ways.
33LISTEN TO CORRECTION AND ACT WISELY AND MAY NOT YOU NEGLECT [IT] 33Listen to instruction and be wise; do not ignore it.
34HOW BLESSED! [IS] A PERSON [WHO] LISTENS TO ME BY KEEPING WATCH AT DOORS MY DAY DAY BY WATCHING [THE] DOORPOSTS OF DOORWAYS MY 34Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at the posts of my doorway.
35FOR [ONE WHO] FINDS ME HE FINDS LIFE AND HE OBTAINED FAVOR FROM YAHWEH 35For whoever finds me finds life and obtains the favor of the LORD.
36AND [ONE WHO] MISSES ME [IS] DOING WRONG TO SELF HIS ALL [THOSE WHO] HATE ME THEY LOVE DEATH 36But he who fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love death.”
