22[IS] REDEEMING YAHWEH [THE] LIFE OF SERVANTS HIS AND NOT THEY WILL BE HELD GUILTY ALL THOSE [WHO] TAKE REFUGE IN HIM 22The LORD redeems His servants, and none who take refuge in Him will be condemned.
1CONTEND! O YAHWEH WITH OPPONENTS MY FIGHT WITH [THOSE WHO] FIGHT WITH ME 1Contend with my opponents, O LORD; fight against those who fight against me.
2TAKE HOLD OF SHIELD AND BODY SHIELD AND ARISE! <IN> HELP MY 2Take up Your shield and buckler; arise and come to my aid.
3AND DRAW OUT A SPEAR AND LANCE TO MEET PURSUERS MY SAY TO SELF MY [AM] SALVATION YOUR I 3Draw the spear and javelin*NoteCloseOr and close the way against my pursuers; say to my soul: “I am your salvation.”
4MAY THEY BE ASHAMED AND THEY MAY BE HUMILIATED [THOSE WHO] SEEK <OF> LIFE MY MAY THEY BE TURNED BACK BACKWARDS AND MAY THEY BE ABASHED [THOSE WHO] PLOT <OF> HARM MY 4May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; may those who plan to harm me be driven back and confounded.
5MAY THEY BE LIKE CHAFF <TO> BEFORE A WIND AND [THE] ANGEL OF YAHWEH PUSHING 5May they be like chaff in the wind, as the angel of the LORD drives them away.
6MAY IT BE WAY THEIR DARKNESS AND SLIPPERY PLACES AND [THE] ANGEL OF YAHWEH PURSUING THEM 6May their path be dark and slick, as the angel of the LORD pursues.
7FOR WITHOUT CAUSE THEY HAVE HIDDEN FOR ME [THE] PIT OF NET THEIR WITHOUT CAUSE THEY HAVE DUG FOR LIFE MY 7For without cause they laid their net for me; without reason they dug a pit for my soul.
8MAY IT COME TO HIM DESTRUCTION [WHICH] NOT HE KNOWS AND NET HIS WHICH HE HID MAY IT CATCH HIM IN DESTRUCTION MAY HE FALL IN IT 8May ruin befall them by surprise; may the net they hid ensnare them; may they fall into the hazard they created.
9AND SELF MY IT WILL REJOICE IN YAHWEH IT WILL EXULT IN SALVATION HIS 9Then my soul will rejoice in the LORD and exult in His salvation.
10ALL BONES MY THEY WILL SAY O YAHWEH WHO? [IS] LIKE YOU [ONE WHO] DELIVERS A POOR [PERSON] FROM A PERSON [TOO] STRONG FOR HIM AND [THE] POOR AND [THE] NEEDY FROM [ONE WHO] ROBS HIM 10All my bones will exclaim, “Who is like You, O LORD, who delivers the afflicted from the aggressor, the poor and needy from the robber?”
11THEY RISE UP! WITNESSES OF VIOLENCE [THAT] WHICH NOT I KNOW THEY ASK ME 11Hostile witnesses come forward; they make charges I know nothing about.
12THEY REPAY ME HARM IN PLACE OF GOOD BEREAVEMENT [BELONGS] TO SELF MY 12They repay me evil for good, to the bereavement of my soul.
13AND I WHEN WERE SICK THEY CLOTHING MY [WAS] SACKCLOTH I HUMBLED WITH <THE> FASTING SELF MY AND PRAYER MY TO BOSOM MY IT RETURNED 13Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth; I humbled myself with fasting, but my prayers returned unanswered.*NoteCloseLiterally returned to my bosom
14LIKE A FRIEND LIKE A BROTHER OF ME I WENT ABOUT LIKE A MOURNER OF A MOTHER MOURNING I BOWED 14I paced about as for my friend or brother I was bowed down with grief, like one mourning for his mother.
15AND AT STUMBLING MY THEY REJOICED AND THEY GATHERED THEY GATHERED ON ME SMITTEN [PEOPLE] AND NOT I KNEW THEY TORE AND NOT THEY WERE STILL 15But when I stumbled, they assembled in glee; they gathered together against me. Assailants I did not know slandered me without ceasing.
16<IN> GODLESS [ONES] OF MOCKERS OF CAKE THEY GNASHED TOWARDS ME TEETH THEIR 16Like godless jesters at a feast,*NoteCloseOr Like a godless circle of mockers, they gnashed their teeth at me.
17O LORD HOW LONG? WILL YOU LOOK BRING BACK! LIFE MY FROM RAVAGES THEIR FROM YOUNG LIONS ONLY [LIFE] MY 17How long, O Lord, will You look on? Rescue my soul from their ravages, my precious life from these lions.
18I WILL GIVE THANKS TO YOU IN [THE] ASSEMBLY GREAT AMONG A PEOPLE NUMEROUS I WILL PRAISE YOU 18Then I will give You thanks in the great assembly; I will praise You among many people.
19MAY NOT THEY REJOICE TO ME ENEMIES MY FALSEHOOD [THOSE WHO] HATE ME WITHOUT CAUSE LET THEM WINK AN EYE 19Let not my enemies gloat over me without cause, nor those who hate me without reason wink in malice.*NoteCloseSee John 15:25.
20FOR NOT PEACE THEY SPEAK AND ON [THE] QUIET [PEOPLE] OF [THE] LAND WORDS OF DECEIT<S> THEY PLAN! 20For they do not speak peace, but they devise deceitful schemes against those who live quietly in the land.
21AND THEY HAVE OPENED WIDE ON ME MOUTH THEIR THEY HAVE SAID AHA! AHA! IT HAS SEEN EYES OUR 21They gape at me and say, “Aha, aha! Our eyes have seen!”
22YOU HAVE SEEN O YAHWEH MAY NOT YOU BE SILENT O LORD MAY NOT YOU BE DISTANT FROM ME 22O LORD, You have seen it; be not silent. O Lord, be not far from me.
23WAKE UP! AND AWAKE! FOR JUDGMENT MY O GOD MY AND O LORD FOR CAUSE MY 23Awake and rise to my defense, to my cause, my God and my Lord!
24VINDICATE ME ACCORDING TO RIGHTEOUSNESS YOUR O YAHWEH GOD MY AND MAY NOT THEY REJOICE TO ME 24Vindicate me by Your righteousness, O LORD my God, and do not let them gloat over me.
25MAY NOT THEY SAY IN HEART THEIR AHA! DESIRE OUR MAY NOT THEY SAY WE HAVE SWALLOWED HIM 25Let them not say in their hearts, “Aha, just what we wanted!” Let them not say, “We have swallowed him up!”
26MAY THEY BE ASHAMED AND THEY MAY BE ABASHED ALTOGETHER [THE] [PEOPLE] JOYFUL OF DISTRESS MY MAY THEY BE CLOTHED SHAME AND IGNOMINY WHO MAGNIFY THEMSELVES ON ME 26May those who gloat in my distress be ashamed and confounded; may those who exalt themselves over me be clothed in shame and reproach.
27MAY THEY SHOUT FOR JOY AND THEY MAY REJOICE [THE] [PEOPLE] DESIROUS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS MY AND MAY THEY SAY CONTINUALLY MAY HE BE GREAT YAHWEH <THE> DESIRING [THE] WELFARE OF SERVANT HIS 27May those who favor my vindication shout for joy and gladness; may they always say, “Exalted be the LORD who delights in His servant’s well-being.”
28AND TONGUE MY IT WILL UTTER RIGHTEOUSNESS YOUR ALL THE DAY PRAISE YOUR 28Then my tongue will proclaim Your righteousness and Your praises all day long.
