TO THE CHOIRMASTER A PSALM OF DAVID The Hurtful Tongue (James 3:1–12) 0For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
HEAR O GOD VOICE MY IN COMPLAINT MY FROM DREAD OF AN ENEMY YOU WILL PRESERVE LIFE MY 1Hear, O God, my voice of complaint; preserve my life from dread of the enemy.
YOU WILL HIDE ME FROM [THE] SECRET COUNSEL OF EVIL-DOERS FROM [THE] UNREST OF [THOSE WHO] DO <OF> WICKEDNESS 2Hide me from the scheming of the wicked, from the mob of workers of iniquity,
WHO THEY SHARPEN LIKE <THE> SWORD TONGUE THEIR THEY BEND ARROW THEIR A WORD BITTER 3who sharpen their tongues like swords and aim their bitter words like arrows,
TO SHOOT IN <THE> SECRET PLACES [THE] BLAMELESS SUDDENLY THEY SHOOT AT HIM AND NOT THEY ARE AFRAID 4ambushing the innocent in seclusion, shooting suddenly, without fear.
THEY STRENGTHEN FOR <THE> THEMSELVES A MATTER EVIL THEY SPEAK TO HIDE SNARES THEY SAY WHO? WILL HE SEE <TO> <THE> THEM 5They hold fast to their evil purpose; they speak of hiding their snares. “Who will see them?” they say.
THEY PLOT INJUSTICE<S> WE HAVE FINISHED A PLOT PLOTTED AND [THE] INNER BEING OF A PERSON AND [THE] HEART [IS] DEEP 6They devise injustice and say, “We have perfected a secret plan.” For the inner man and the heart are mysterious.
AND HE SHOT AT THEM GOD AN ARROW SUDDENLY THEY WILL BE WOUNDS THEIR 7But God will shoot them with arrows; suddenly they will be wounded.
AND THEY CAUSED TO STUMBLE HIM [IS] ON THEM TONGUE THEIR THEY WILL SHUDDER EVERY [ONE WHO] LOOKS ON <THE> THEM 8They will be made to stumble, their own tongues turned against them. All who see will shake their heads.
AND THEY WERE AFRAID ALL HUMANKIND AND THEY DECLARED [THE] DEED[S] OF GOD AND WORK HIS THEY WILL CONSIDER 9Then all mankind will fear and proclaim the work of God; so they will ponder what He has done.
LET HIM REJOICE [THE] RIGHTEOUS IN YAHWEH AND HE WILL TAKE REFUGE IN <THE> HIM AND LET THEM BOAST ALL [PEOPLE] UPRIGHT OF HEART 10Let the righteous rejoice in the LORD and take refuge in Him; let all the upright in heart exult.
