44AND [BELONGED] TO AZEL SIX SONS AND THESE [ARE] NAMES THEIR AZRIKAM BOCHERU AND ISHMAEL AND SHEARIAH AND OBADIAH AND HANAN THESE [WERE] [THE] SONS OF AZEL 44And Azel had six sons, and these were their names: Azrikam, Bocheru, Ishmael, Sheariah, Obadiah, and Hanan. These were the sons of Azel.
1AND [THE] PHILISTINES THEY FOUGHT AGAINST ISRAEL AND HE FLED [THE] MAN OF ISRAEL FROM BEFORE [THE] PHILISTINES AND THEY FELL SLAIN ON [THE] MOUNTAIN OF GILBOA Saul’s Overthrow and Death (1 Samuel 31:1–6; 2 Samuel 1:1–16) 1Now the Philistines fought against Israel, and the men of Israel fled before them, and many fell slain on Mount Gilboa.
2AND THEY PURSUED CLOSELY [THE] PHILISTINES AFTER SAUL AND AFTER SONS HIS AND THEY STRUCK DOWN [THE] PHILISTINES <OBJ.> JONATHAN AND <OBJ.> ABINADAB AND <OBJ.> MALKI- SHUA [THE] SONS OF SAUL 2The Philistines followed hard after Saul and his sons, and they killed Saul’s sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua.
3AND IT WAS HEAVY THE BATTLE ON SAUL AND THEY FOUND HIM THE ARCHERS WITH THE BOW AND HE WAS IN SEVERE PAIN FROM THE ARCHERS 3When the battle intensified against Saul, the archers overtook him and wounded him.
4AND HE SAID SAUL TO [THE] BEARER OF WEAPONS HIS DRAW OUT SWORD YOUR AND PIERCE THROUGH ME WITH IT LEST THEY SHOULD COME THE UNCIRCUMCISED [MEN] <THE> THESE AND THEY WILL DEAL WANTONLY WITH ME AND NOT HE WAS WILLING [THE] BEARER OF WEAPONS HIS FOR HE WAS AFRAID EXCEEDINGLY AND HE TOOK SAUL <OBJ.> THE SWORD AND HE FELL ON IT 4Then Saul said to his armor-bearer, “Draw your sword and run me through with it, or these uncircumcised men will come and torture me!” But his armor-bearer was terrified and refused to do it. So Saul took his own sword and fell on it.
5AND HE SAW [THE] BEARER OF WEAPONS HIS THAT HE HAD DIED SAUL AND HE FELL ALSO HE ON THE SWORD AND HE DIED 5When his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he too fell on his own sword and died.
6AND HE DIED SAUL AND THREE OF SONS HIS AND ALL HOUSEHOLD HIS TOGETHER THEY DIED 6So Saul died together with his three sons and all his house.
7AND THEY SAW EVERY <THE> MAN OF ISRAEL WHO [WAS] IN THE VALLEY THAT THEY HAD FLED AND THAT THEY HAD DIED SAUL AND SONS HIS AND THEY ABANDONED CITIES THEIR AND THEY FLED AND THEY CAME [THE] PHILISTINES AND THEY DWELT IN THEM The Philistines Possess the Towns (1 Samuel 31:7–10) 7When all the Israelites in the valley saw that the army had fled and that Saul and his sons had died, they abandoned their cities and ran away. So the Philistines came and occupied their cities.
8AND IT WAS FROM [THE] NEXT DAY AND THEY CAME [THE] PHILISTINES TO STRIP <OBJ.> THE [ONES] SLAIN AND THEY FOUND <OBJ.> SAUL AND <OBJ.> SONS HIS FALLEN ON [THE] MOUNTAIN OF GILBOA 8The next day, when the Philistines came to strip the dead, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.
9AND THEY STRIPPED HIM AND THEY TOOK <OBJ.> HEAD HIS AND <OBJ.> WEAPONS HIS AND THEY SENT IN [THE] LAND OF [THE] PHILISTINES ALL AROUND TO BEAR [THE] NEWS TO <OBJ.> IDOLS THEIR AND <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE 9They stripped Saul, cut off his head, took his armor, and sent messengers throughout the land of the Philistines to proclaim the news in the temple of their idols and among their people.
10AND THEY PUT <OBJ.> WEAPONS HIS [THE] HOUSE OF GODS THEIR AND <OBJ.> SKULL HIS THEY FIXED [THE] HOUSE OF DAGON 10They put his armor in the temple of their gods and hung his head in the temple of Dagon.
11AND THEY HEARD ALL JABESH GILEAD <OBJ.> ALL THAT THEY HAD DONE [THE] PHILISTINES TO SAUL Jabesh-gilead’s Tribute to Saul (1 Samuel 31:11–13) 11When all the people of Jabesh-gilead heard about everything the Philistines had done to Saul,
12AND THEY AROSE EVERY MAN OF STRENGTH AND THEY TOOK <OBJ.> [THE] CORPSE OF SAUL AND <OBJ.> [THE] CORPSES OF SONS HIS AND THEY BROUGHT THEM JABESH TOWARDS AND THEY BURIED <OBJ.> BONES THEIR UNDER THE OAK IN JABESH AND THEY FASTED SEVEN DAYS 12all their men of valor set out and retrieved the bodies of Saul and his sons and brought them to Jabesh. And they buried their bones under the oak*NoteCloseOr terebinth or great tree in Jabesh and fasted seven days.
13AND HE DIED SAUL IN UNFAITHFULNESS HIS WHICH HE HAD ACTED UNFAITHFULLY AGAINST YAHWEH ON [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH WHICH NOT HE KEPT AND ALSO TO CONSULT BY <THE> NECROMANCY TO CONSULT 13So Saul died for his unfaithfulness to the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance,
14AND NOT HE CONSULTED <IN> YAHWEH AND HE PUT TO DEATH HIM AND HE TURNED OVER <OBJ.> THE KINGSHIP TO DAVID [THE] SON OF JESSE 14and he failed to inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.
