17AND THE GATEKEEPERS SHALLUM AND AKKUB AND TALMON AND AHIMAN AND BROTHER THEIR SHALLUM [WAS] THE CHIEF 17These were the gatekeepers: Shallum, Akkub, Talmon, Ahiman, and their relatives. Shallum was their chief;
18AND UNTIL NOW IN [THE] GATE OF THE KING EAST -WARD THEY [WERE] THE GATEKEEPERS OF [THE] CAMPS OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF LEVI 18he was previously stationed at the King’s Gate on the east side. These were the gatekeepers from the camp of the Levites.

20AND PHINEHAS [THE] SON OF ELEAZAR A LEADER HE HAD BEEN OVER THEM <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH [WAS] WITH HIM 20In earlier times Phinehas son of Eleazar had been in charge of the gatekeepers, and the LORD was with him.
21ZECHARIAH [THE] SON OF MESHELEMIAH [WAS] A GATEKEEPER OF [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] TENT OF MEETING 21Zechariah son of Meshelemiah was the gatekeeper at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting.
22ALL OF THEM WHO HAD BEEN CHOSEN TO GATEKEEPERS AT THE THRESHOLDS [WERE] TWO HUNDRED AND TWO [PLUS] TEN THEY [WAS] IN VILLAGES THEIR RECORDING GENEALOGY THEY THEM HE HAD APPOINTED DAVID AND SAMUEL THE SEER IN FAITHFULNESS THEIR 22The number of those chosen to be gatekeepers at the thresholds was 212. They were registered by genealogy in their villages. David and Samuel the seer had appointed them to their positions of trust.
23AND THEY AND DESCENDANTS THEIR [WERE] OVER THE GATES OF [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH OF [THE] HOUSE OF THE TENT TO GUARDS 23So they and their descendants were assigned to guard the gates of the house of the LORD – the house called the Tent.
24TO FOUR SIDES THEY WERE THE GATEKEEPERS [THE] EAST WEST -WARD NORTH -WARD AND SOUTH -WARD 24The gatekeepers were stationed on the four sides: east, west, north, and south.
25AND RELATIVES THEIR IN VILLAGES THEIR [WERE] TO COME FOR [THE] SEVEN THE DAYS FROM TIME TO TIME WITH THESE 25Their relatives came from their villages at fixed times to serve with them for seven-day periods.
26FOR IN FAITHFULNESS THEY [THE] FOUR [THE] MIGHTY [ONES] OF THE GATEKEEPERS THEY [WERE] THE LEVITES AND THEY WERE OVER THE STORE-ROOMS AND OVER THE TREASURIES OF [THE] HOUSE OF <THE> GOD 26But the four chief gatekeepers, who were Levites, were entrusted with the rooms and the treasuries of the house of God.
27AND AROUND [THE] HOUSE OF <THE> GOD THEY SPENT [THE] NIGHT FOR [WAS] ON THEM A DUTY AND THEY [WERE] OVER THE KEY AND TO THE MORNING TO THE MORNING 27They would spend the night stationed around the house of God, because they were responsible for guarding it and opening it every morning.
28AND SOME OF THEM [WERE] OVER [THE] ARTICLES OF THE SERVICE FOR BY NUMBER THEY BROUGHT THEM AND BY NUMBER THEY TOOK OUT THEM 28Some of them were in charge of the articles used in worship, to count them whenever they were brought in or taken out.
29AND SOME OF THEM [WERE] APPOINTED OVER THE ARTICLES AND OVER ALL [THE] ARTICLES OF THE HOLY PLACE AND OVER THE FINE FLOUR AND THE WINE AND THE OIL AND THE FRANKINCENSE AND THE SPICES 29Others were put in charge of the furnishings and other articles of the sanctuary, as well as the fine flour, wine, oil, frankincense, and spices.
30AND SOME OF [THE] SONS OF THE PRIESTS [WERE THOSE WHO] MIXED <OF> THE MIXTURE OF THE SPICES 30And some of the sons of the priests mixed the spices.
31AND MATTITHIAH ONE OF THE LEVITES HE [WAS] THE FIRSTBORN OF SHALLUM THE KORAHITE IN FAITHFULNESS [WAS] OVER [THE] WORK OF THE FLAT CAKES 31A Levite named Mattithiah, the firstborn son of Shallum the Korahite, was entrusted with baking the bread.
32AND SOME OF [THE] SONS OF THE KOHATHITE[S] SOME OF RELATIVES THEIR [WERE] OVER [THE] BREAD OF THE ROW TO PREPARE [IT] SABBATH SABBATH 32Some of their Kohathite relatives were responsible for preparing the rows of the showbread every Sabbath.
33AND THESE THE SINGERS [THE] CHIEFS OF FATHERS OF THE LEVITES [WERE] IN THE ROOMS SET FREE FOR BY DAY AND NIGHT [WAS] ON THEM IN THE WORK 33Those who were musicians, the heads of Levite families, stayed in the temple chambers and were exempt from other duties because they were on duty day and night.
34THESE [WERE] [THE] CHIEFS OF THE FATHERS OF THE LEVITES TO GENERATIONS THEIR CHIEFS THESE THEY DWELT IN JERUSALEM 34All these were heads of Levite families, chiefs according to their genealogies, and they lived in Jerusalem.
35AND IN GIBEON THEY DWELT [THE] FATHER OF GIBEON JEIEL AND [THE] NAME OF WIFE HIS [WAS] MAACAH The Descendants of Saul 35Jeiel the father*NoteCloseOr the founder of Gibeon lived in Gibeon. His wife’s name was Maacah.
