4AND HE CAPTURED DAVID FROM HIM ONE THOUSAND CHARIOT[S] AND SEVEN THOUSAND<S> HORSEMEN AND TWENTY THOUSAND MAN ON FOOT AND HE HAMSTRUNG DAVID <OBJ.> ALL THE CHARIOTRY AND HE LEFT OF IT ONE HUNDRED CHARIOT[S] 4David captured from him a thousand chariots, seven thousand charioteers, and twenty thousand foot soldiers, and he hamstrung all the horses except a hundred he kept for the chariots.
5AND IT CAME ARAM DAMASCUS TO HELP <TO> HADADEZER [THE] KING OF ZOBAH AND HE STRUCK DOWN DAVID IN ARAM TWENTY AND TWO THOUSAND MAN 5When the Arameans of Damascus came to help King Hadadezer of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand of their men.
6AND HE PUT DAVID IN ARAM DAMASCUS AND IT BECAME ARAM OF DAVID SUBJECTS BEARERS OF TRIBUTE AND HE GAVE VICTORY YAHWEH TO DAVID IN EVERY WHERE HE WENT 6Then he placed garrisons*NoteCloseLXX and Vulgate (see also 2 Samuel 8:6 and Syriac); Hebrew does not include garrisons. in Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to David and brought him tribute. 9AND HE HEARD TOU [THE] KING OF HAMATH THAT HE HAD STRUCK DOWN DAVID <OBJ.> ALL [THE] ARMY OF HADADEZER [THE] KING OF ZOBAH 9When King Tou*NoteCloseTou is a variant of Toi; also in verse 10; see 2 Samuel 8:9. of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,
10AND HE SENT <OBJ.> HADORAM SON HIS TO THE KING DAVID TO ASK OF HIM TO WELFARE AND TO BLESS HIM ON THAT HE HAD FOUGHT AGAINST HADADEZER AND HE HAD DEFEATED HIM FOR <THE> MAN OF <THE> WARS OF TOU HE WAS HADADEZER AND ALL ARTICLES OF GOLD AND SILVER AND BRONZE 10he sent his son Hadoram*NoteCloseHadoram is a variant of Joram; see 2 Samuel 8:10. to greet King David and bless him for fighting and defeating Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Hadoram brought all kinds of articles of gold and silver and bronze,
11ALSO <OBJ.> THEM HE CONSECRATED THE KING DAVID TO YAHWEH WITH THE SILVER AND THE GOLD WHICH HE HAD TAKEN AWAY FROM ALL THE NATIONS FROM EDOM AND FROM MOAB AND FROM [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON AND FROM [THE] PHILISTINES AND FROM AMALEK 11and King David dedicated these to the LORD, along with the silver and gold he had carried off from all these nations— from Edom and Moab, and from the Ammonites, Philistines, and Amalekites.
12AND ABISHAI [THE] SON OF ZERUIAH HE STRUCK DOWN <OBJ.> EDOM IN [THE] VALLEY OF <THE> SALT EIGHT- TEEN THOUSAND 12Moreover, Abishai son of Zeruiah struck down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.
13AND HE PUT IN EDOM GARRISONS AND THEY BECAME ALL EDOM SUBJECTS OF DAVID AND HE GAVE VICTORY TO YAHWEH <OBJ.> DAVID IN EVERY WHERE HE WENT 13He placed garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites were subject to David. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.
14AND HE REIGNED DAVID OVER ALL ISRAEL AND HE WAS DOING JUSTICE AND RIGHTEOUSNESS FOR ALL PEOPLE HIS David’s Officers (2 Samuel 8:15–18) 14Thus David reigned over all Israel and administered justice and righteousness for all his people:
