31IN ORDER THAT EVEN AS IT HAS BEEN WRITTEN: THE [ONE] BOASTING IN [THE] LORD HE SHOULD BOAST. 31Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.”*NoteCloseJeremiah 9:24
1AND I MYSELF HAVING COME TO YOU, BROTHERS, CAME NOT ACCORDING TO EXCELLENCY OF SPEECH OR WISDOM PROCLAIMING TO YOU THE MYSTERY <THE> OF GOD. Paul’s Message by the Spirit’s Power 1When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God.
2NOTHING FOR I DECIDED OF THE ANYTHING TO KNOW AMONG YOU ONLY EXCEPT JESUS CHRIST AND HIM CRUCIFIED. 2For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.
3AND I MYSELF IN WEAKNESS AND IN FEAR AND IN TREMBLING MUCH WAS WITH YOU; 3I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling.
4AND THE MESSAGE OF MINE AND THE PREACHING OF MINE [WERE] NOT IN PERSUASIVE OF HUMAN OF WISDOM WORDS BUT IN DEMONSTRATION OF [THE] SPIRIT AND OF POWER, 4My message and my preaching were not with persuasive words of wisdom, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power,
5SO THAT THE FAITH OF YOU NOT MAY BE IN WISDOM OF MEN BUT IN POWER OF GOD. 5so that your faith would not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power.
6WISDOM HOWEVER WE SPEAK AMONG THE MATURE, WISDOM HOWEVER NOT <THE> AGE OF THIS NOR OF THE RULERS <THE> AGE OF THIS WHO ARE COMING TO NAUGHT; Spiritual Wisdom (Ephesians 1:15–23) 6Among the mature, however, we speak a message of wisdom— but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing.
7BUT WE SPEAK OF GOD WISDOM IN A MYSTERY WHICH HIDDEN, WHICH FOREORDAINED <THE> GOD BEFORE THE AGES FOR GLORY OF US, 7No, we speak of the mysterious and hidden wisdom of God,*NoteCloseOr we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery which He destined for our glory before time began.
8WHICH NONE OF THE RULERS <THE> AGE OF THIS HAS UNDERSTOOD; IF FOR THEY HAD UNDERSTOOD [IT], NOT THEN WOULD THE LORD <THE> OF GLORY THEY CRUCIFIED, 8None of the rulers of this age understood it. For if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
9BUT EVEN AS IT HAS BEEN WRITTEN: WHAT EYE NOT HAS SEEN AND EAR NOT HAS HEARD AND INTO HEART OF MAN NOT HAS ENTERED, WHAT HAS PREPARED <THE> GOD FOR THOSE LOVING HIM. 9Rather, as it is written: No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no heart has imagined, what God has prepared for those who love Him.”*NoteCloseIsaiah 64:4
10TO US AND REVEALED [IT] <THE> GOD THROUGH THE SPIRIT OF HIM; THE FOR SPIRIT ALL THINGS SEARCHES, EVEN THE DEPTHS <THE> OF GOD. 10But God has revealed it to us by the Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.
11WHO FOR KNOWS AMONG MEN THE [THINGS] OF THE MAN ONLY EXCEPT THE SPIRIT OF THE MAN THAT [IS] WITHIN HIM? SO ALSO THE [THINGS] <THE> OF GOD NO [ONE] HAS KNOWN ONLY EXCEPT THE SPIRIT <THE> OF GOD. 11For who among men knows the thoughts of man except his own spirit within him? So too, no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God.
12WE OURSELVES NOW NOT THE SPIRIT OF THE WORLD HAVE RECEIVED BUT THE SPIRIT WHO [IS] FROM <THE> GOD, THAT WE MAY KNOW THE [THINGS] BY <THE> GOD HAVING BEEN GRANTED TO US; 12We have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us.
13WHICH ALSO WE SPEAK NOT IN TAUGHT OF HUMAN WISDOM WORDS BUT IN [THOSE] TAUGHT OF [THE] SPIRIT HOLY BY SPIRITUAL [MEANS] SPIRITUAL THINGS COMMUNICATING. 13And this is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom, but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.*NoteCloseOr to spiritual people
14[THE] NATURAL HOWEVER MAN NOT ACCEPTS THE [THINGS] OF THE SPIRIT <THE> OF GOD, FOOLISHNESS FOR TO HIM THEY ARE, AND NOT HE IS ABLE TO UNDERSTAND [THEM], BECAUSE SPIRITUALLY THEY ARE DISCERNED. 14The natural man does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God. For they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15HE WHO [IS] HOWEVER SPIRITUAL JUDGES <THE> ALL THINGS HE HIMSELF HOWEVER BY NO [ONE] IS JUDGED. 15The spiritual man judges all things, but he himself is not subject to anyone’s judgment.
16WHO FOR HAS KNOWN [THE] MIND OF [THE] LORD? WHO WILL INSTRUCT HIM? WE OURSELVES HOWEVER [THE] MIND OF CHRIST HAVE. 16“For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to instruct Him?”*NoteCloseIsaiah 40:13 (see also LXX) But we have the mind of Christ.
