16WHO FOR HAS KNOWN [THE] MIND OF [THE] LORD? WHO WILL INSTRUCT HIM? WE OURSELVES HOWEVER [THE] MIND OF CHRIST HAVE. 16“For who has known the mind of the Lord, so as to instruct Him?”*NoteCloseIsaiah 40:13 (see also LXX) But we have the mind of Christ.
1AND I MYSELF BROTHERS NOT WAS ABLE TO SPEAK TO YOU AS TO SPIRITUAL BUT AS TO FLESHLY, AS TO INFANTS IN CHRIST. God’s Fellow Workers (Hebrews 5:11–14) 1Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual, but as worldly— as infants in Christ.
2MILK YOU I GAVE TO DRINK, AND NOT SOLID FOOD; NOT YET FOR WERE YOU ABLE, IN FACT NOT STILL NOW ARE YOU ABLE; 2I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for solid food. In fact, you are still not ready,
3STILL FOR FLESHLY YOU ARE. WHERE FOR [ARE] AMONG YOU JEALOUSY AND STRIFE AND DISSENSIONS SURELY FLESHLY ARE YOU AND ACCORDING TO MAN ARE WALKING? 3for you are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and dissension among you, are you not worldly? Are you not walking in the way of man?
4WHEN FOR MAY SAY ONE; I MYSELF INDEED AM OF PAUL, ANOTHER HOWEVER I MYSELF OF APOLLOS, SURELY HUMAN ARE YOU? 4For when one of you says, “I follow Paul, ” and another, “I follow Apollos, ” are you not mere men?
5WHO THEN IS APOLLOS WHO NOW IS PAUL OTHER THAN SERVANTS THROUGH WHOM YOU BELIEVED, ALSO TO EACH AS THE LORD HAS GIVEN. 5What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, as the Lord has assigned to each his role.
6I MYSELF PLANTED, APOLLOS WATERED, BUT <THE> GOD WAS [IT] GROWING; 6I planted the seed and Apollos watered it, but God made it grow.
7SO NEITHER THE [ONE] PLANTING IS ANYTHING NOR THE [ONE] WATERING, BUT [ONLY] THE [ONE] GIVING GROWTH — GOD; 7So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.
8THE [ONE] PLANTING NOW ALSO THE [ONE] WATERING ONE ARE, EACH NOW <THE> [HIS] OWN REWARD WILL RECEIVE ACCORDING TO <THE> [HIS] OWN LABOR. 8He who plants and he who waters are one in purpose*NoteCloseLiterally are one and each will be rewarded according to his own labor.
9OF GOD FOR WE ARE FELLOW WORKERS; GOD’S FIELD, GOD’S BUILDING YOU ARE. 9For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building.
10ACCORDING TO THE GRACE <THE> OF GOD WHICH HAVING BEEN GIVEN TO ME AS A WISE MASTER BUILDER [THE] FOUNDATION I LAID, ANOTHER HOWEVER IS BUILDING UPON [IT]. EACH ONE HOWEVER SHOULD TAKE HEED HOW HE BUILDS UPON [IT]. Christ Our Foundation (Isaiah 28:14–22; Ephesians 2:19–22; 1 Peter 2:1–8) 10By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one must be careful how he builds.
11FOUNDATION FOR ANOTHER NO [ONE] IS ABLE TO LAY BESIDES THE [ONE] BEING ALREADY LAID, WHICH IS JESUS <THE> CHRIST. 11For no one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.
12IF NOW ANYONE BUILDS UPON <THE> FOUNDATION THIS GOLD, SILVER, STONES PRECIOUS, WOOD, HAY, STRAW, 12If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw,
13OF EACH THE WORK MANIFEST WILL BECOME; THE FOR DAY WILL DISCLOSE [IT], BECAUSE IN FIRE IT IS REVEALED, AND OF EACH THE WORK WHAT SORT IT IS THE FIRE ITSELF WILL PROVE. 13his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work.
14IF OF ANYONE THE WORK WILL REMAIN WHICH HE BUILT UP, A REWARD HE WILL RECEIVE; 14If what he has built survives, he will receive a reward.
15IF OF ANYONE THE WORK WILL BE BURNED UP, HE WILL SUFFER LOSS, HE HIMSELF HOWEVER WILL BE SAVED SO HOWEVER AS THROUGH FIRE. 15If it is burned up, he will suffer loss. He himself will be saved, but only as if through the flames.
16SURELY YOU KNOW THAT TEMPLE OF GOD YOU YOURSELVES ARE, AND THE SPIRIT <THE> OF GOD DWELLS IN YOU God’s Temple and God’s Wisdom (Romans 12:1–8; 1 Corinthians 6:18–20) 16Do you not know that you yourselves are God’s temple, and that God’s Spirit dwells in*NoteCloseOr among you?
17IF ANYONE THE TEMPLE <THE> OF GOD DESTROYS, WILL DESTROY HIM <THE> GOD; <THE> FOR THE TEMPLE <THE> OF GOD HOLY IS, WHICH ARE YOU YOURSELVES. 17If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.
18NO ONE HIMSELF SHOULD DECEIVE; IF ANYONE THINKS [HIMSELF] WISE TO BE AMONG YOU IN <THE> AGE THIS, FOOLISH HE SHOULD BECOME SO THAT HE MAY BECOME WISE. 18Let no one deceive himself. If any of you thinks he is wise in this age, he should become a fool, so that he may become wise.
19THE FOR WISDOM OF THE WORLD THIS FOOLISHNESS WITH <THE> GOD IS. IT HAS BEEN WRITTEN FOR: [HE IS] THE [ONE] CATCHING THE WISE IN THE CRAFTINESS OF THEM; 19For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftiness.”*NoteCloseJob 5:13
20AND AGAIN; [THE] LORD KNOWS THE THOUGHTS OF THE WISE THAT THEY ARE FUTILE. 20And again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.”*NoteClosePsalm 94:11
21THEREFORE NO ONE SHOULD BOAST IN MEN; ALL THINGS FOR OF YOU ARE, 21Therefore, stop boasting in men. All things are yours,
22WHETHER PAUL OR APOLLOS OR CEPHAS OR [THE] WORLD OR LIFE OR DEATH OR THINGS BEING PRESENT OR THINGS TO COME — ALL YOURS IS — 22whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas*NoteCloseThat is, Peter or the world or life or death or the present or the future. All of them belong to you,
