46AND HE COMMANDED THE KING <OBJ.> BENAIAH [THE] SON OF JEHOIADA AND HE WENT OUT AND HE FELL ON HIM AND HE DIED AND THE KINGDOM IT WAS ESTABLISHED IN [THE] HAND OF SOLOMON 46Then the king commanded Benaiah son of Jehoiada, and he went out and struck Shimei down, and he died. Thus the kingdom was firmly established in the hand of Solomon.
1AND HE BECAME SON-IN-LAW SOLOMON WITH PHARAOH [THE] KING OF EGYPT AND HE TOOK <OBJ.> [THE] DAUGHTER OF PHARAOH AND HE BROUGHT HER TO [THE] CITY OF DAVID UNTIL FINISHED HE TO BUILD <OBJ.> HOUSE HIS AND <OBJ.> [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH AND <OBJ.> [THE] WALL OF JERUSALEM ALL AROUND Solomon’s Prayer for Wisdom (2 Chronicles 1:1–13; Psalm 45:1–17; Psalm 72:1–20) 1Later, Solomon formed an alliance with Pharaoh king of Egypt by marrying his daughter. Solomon brought her to the City of David until he had finished building his palace and the house of the LORD, as well as the wall around Jerusalem.
2ONLY THE PEOPLE [WERE] SACRIFICING AT THE HIGH PLACES FOR NOT IT HAD BEEN BUILT A HOUSE FOR [THE] NAME OF YAHWEH UNTIL THE DAYS <THE> THOSE 2The people, however, were still sacrificing on the high places because a house for the Name of the LORD had not yet been built.
3AND HE LOVED SOLOMON <OBJ.> YAHWEH TO WALK IN [THE] STATUTES OF DAVID FATHER HIS ONLY AT THE HIGH PLACES HE [WAS] SACRIFICING AND MAKING SMOKE 3And Solomon loved the LORD and walked in the statutes of his father David, except that he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
4AND HE WENT THE KING GIBEON TOWARDS TO SACRIFICE THERE FOR THAT [WAS] THE HIGH PLACE <THE> GREAT A THOUSAND BURNT OFFERINGS HE OFFERED UP SOLOMON ON THE ALTAR <THE> THAT 4Now the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for it was the great high place. Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on the altar there.
5AT GIBEON HE APPEARED YAHWEH TO SOLOMON IN A DREAM THE NIGHT AND HE SAID GOD ASK WHAT? WILL I GIVE TO YOU 5One night at Gibeon the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream, and God said, “Ask and I will give it to you!”
6AND HE SAID SOLOMON YOU YOU HAVE DONE WITH SERVANT YOUR DAVID FATHER MY COVENANT LOYALTY GREAT JUST AS HE WALKED <TO> BEFORE YOU IN FAITHFULNESS AND IN RIGHTEOUSNESS AND IN UPRIGHTNESS OF HEART WITH YOU AND YOU HAVE KEPT TO HIM <OBJ.> THE COVENANT LOYALTY <THE> GREAT <THE> THIS AND YOU HAVE GIVEN TO HIM A SON [WHO] SITS ON THRONE HIS AS THE DAY <THE> THIS 6Solomon replied, “You have shown much loving devotion to Your servant, my father David, because he walked before You in faithfulness, righteousness, and uprightness of heart. And You have maintained this loving devotion by giving him a son to sit on his throne this very day.
7AND NOW O YAHWEH GOD MY YOU YOU HAVE MADE KING <OBJ.> SERVANT YOUR IN PLACE OF DAVID FATHER MY AND I [AM] A LAD YOUNG NOT I KNOW TO GO OUT AND TO COME 7And now, O LORD my God, You have made Your servant king in my father David’s place. But I am only a little child, not knowing how to go out or come in.
8AND SERVANT YOUR [IS] IN AMONG PEOPLE YOUR WHICH YOU HAVE CHOSEN A PEOPLE NUMEROUS WHICH NOT IT WILL BE NUMBERED AND NOT IT WILL BE COUNTED FROM MULTITUDE 8Your servant is here among the people You have chosen, a people too numerous to count or number.
9AND YOU WILL GIVE TO SERVANT YOUR A HEART [WHICH] LISTENS TO JUDGE <OBJ.> PEOPLE YOUR TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL FOR WHO? IS HE ABLE TO JUDGE <OBJ.> PEOPLE YOUR <THE> MASSIVE <THE> THIS 9Therefore give Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people and to discern between good and evil. For who is able to govern this great people of Yours?”
10AND IT WAS GOOD THE THING IN [THE] EYES OF [THE] LORD THAT HE HAD ASKED SOLOMON <OBJ.> THE THING <THE> THIS 10Now it pleased the Lord*NoteCloseHebrew Adonai; also in verse 15 that Solomon had made this request.
11AND HE SAID GOD TO HIM BECAUSE THAT YOU ASKED <OBJ.> THE THING <THE> THIS AND NOT YOU ASKED FOR YOURSELF DAYS MANY AND NOT YOU ASKED FOR YOURSELF WEALTH AND NOT YOU ASKED [THE] LIFE OF ENEMIES YOUR AND YOU ASKED FOR YOURSELF TO UNDERSTAND TO HEAR JUDGMENT 11So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this instead of requesting long life or wealth for yourself or death for your enemies— but you have asked for discernment to administer justice—
12HERE! I DO ACCORDING TO WORDS YOUR HERE! I GIVE TO YOU A HEART WISE AND UNDERSTANDING THAT LIKE YOU NOT ANYONE HAS BEEN <TO> BEFORE YOU AND AFTER YOU NOT ANYONE WILL ARISE LIKE YOU 12behold, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been another like you, nor will there ever be.
13AND ALSO [THAT] WHICH NOT YOU ASKED FOR I GIVE TO YOU BOTH WEALTH AS WELL AS HONOR THAT NOT HE HAS BEEN LIKE YOU ANYONE AMONG THE KINGS ALL DAYS YOUR 13Moreover, I will give you what you did not request— both riches and honor— so that during all your days no man in any kingdom will be your equal.
14AND IF YOU WILL WALK IN WAYS MY TO KEEP STATUTES MY AND COMMANDMENTS MY JUST AS HE WALKED DAVID FATHER YOUR AND I WILL MAKE LONG <OBJ.> DAYS YOUR 14So if you walk in My ways and keep My statutes and commandments, just as your father David did, I will prolong your days.”
15AND HE AWOKE SOLOMON AND THERE! [IT WAS] A DREAM AND HE WENT JERUSALEM AND HE STOOD <TO> BEFORE [THE] ARK OF [THE] COVENANT OF [THE] LORD AND HE OFFERED UP BURNT OFFERINGS AND HE MADE PEACE OFFERINGS AND HE MADE A FEAST FOR ALL SERVANTS HIS 15Then Solomon awoke, and indeed it had been a dream. So he returned to Jerusalem, stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. Then he held a feast for all his servants.
16THEN THEY CAME TWO WOMEN PROSTITUTES TO THE KING AND THEY STOOD <TO> BEFORE HIM Solomon Judges Wisely 16At that time two prostitutes came to the king and stood before him.
17AND SHE SAID THE WOMAN <THE> ONE PARDON ME O LORD MY I AND THE WOMAN <THE> THIS [ARE] DWELLING IN A HOUSE ONE AND I GAVE BIRTH WITH HER IN THE HOUSE 17One woman said, “Please, my lord, this woman and I live in the same house, and I gave birth while she was in the house.
18AND IT WAS ON THE DAY <THE> THIRD OF GIVING BIRTH MY AND SHE GAVE BIRTH ALSO THE WOMAN <THE> THIS AND WE [WERE] TOGETHER THERE NOT [WAS] A STRANGER WITH US IN THE HOUSE EXCEPT TWO WE [WERE] IN THE HOUSE 18On the third day after I gave birth, this woman also had a baby. We were alone, with no one in the house but the two of us.
19AND HE DIED [THE] SON OF THE WOMAN <THE> THIS NIGHT THAT SHE LAY ON HIM 19During the night this woman’s son died because she rolled over on him.
20AND SHE ROSE IN [THE] MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND SHE TOOK <OBJ.> SON MY FROM BESIDE ME AND MAIDSERVANT YOUR [WAS] SLEEPING AND SHE MADE LIE HIM IN BOSOM HER AND <OBJ.> SON HER <THE> DEAD SHE MADE LIE IN BOSOM MY 20So she got up in the middle of the night and took my son from my side while I was asleep. She laid him in her bosom and put her dead son at my bosom.
21AND I ROSE IN THE MORNING TO SUCKLE <OBJ.> SON MY AND THERE! HE HAD DIED AND I LOOKED CAREFULLY TO HIM IN THE MORNING AND THERE! NOT IT WAS SON MY WHOM I HAD BORNE 21The next morning, when I got up to nurse my son, I discovered he was dead. But when I examined him, I realized that he was not the son I had borne.”
22AND SHE SAID THE WOMAN <THE> OTHER IN- DEED [IS] SON MY THE LIVING ONE AND [IS] SON YOUR THE DEAD [ONE] AND THIS [ONE] [WAS] SAYING IN- DEED [IS] SON YOUR THE DEAD [ONE] AND [IS] SON MY THE LIVING ONE AND THEY SPOKE <TO> BEFORE THE KING 22“No,” said the other woman, “the living one is my son and the dead one is your son.” But the first woman insisted, “No, the dead one is yours and the living one is mine.” So they argued before the king.
23AND HE SAID THE KING THIS [ONE] [IS] SAYING THIS SON MY [IS] THE LIVING ONE AND SON YOUR [IS] THE DEAD [ONE] AND THIS [ONE] [IS] SAYING IN- DEED SON YOUR [IS] THE DEAD [ONE] AND SON MY [IS] THE LIVING ONE 23Then the king replied, “This woman says, My son is alive and yours is dead,’ but that woman says, ‘No, your son is dead and mine is alive.’”
24AND HE SAID THE KING TAKE FOR ME A SWORD AND THEY BROUGHT THE SWORD <TO> BEFORE THE KING 24The king continued, “Bring me a sword.” So they brought him a sword
25AND HE SAID THE KING CUT <OBJ.> THE CHILD <THE> LIVING INTO TWO AND GIVE <OBJ.> <THE> HALF TO ONE AND <OBJ.> <THE> HALF TO ONE 25and the king declared, “Cut the living child in two and give half to one and half to the other.”
26AND SHE SAID THE WOMAN WHOM [WAS] SON HER THE LIVING ONE TO THE KING FOR THEY HAD GROWN WARM COMPASSION<S> HER ON SON HER AND SHE SAID PARDON ME O LORD MY GIVE TO HER <OBJ.> THE CHILD <THE> LIVING AND CERTAINLY <TO KILL> MAY NOT YOU KILL HIM AND THIS [ONE] [WAS] SAYING NEITHER TO ME NOR TO YOU NOT HE WILL BELONG CUT 26Then the woman whose son was alive spoke to the king because she yearned with compassion for her son. “Please, my lord,” she said, “give her the living baby. Do not kill him But the other woman said, “He will be neither mine nor yours. Cut him in two!”
27AND HE ANSWERED THE KING AND HE SAID GIVE TO HER <OBJ.> THE CHILD <THE> LIVING AND CERTAINLY <TO KILL> NOT YOU MUST KILL HIM SHE [IS] MOTHER HIS 27Then the king gave his ruling: “Give the living baby to the first woman. By no means should you kill him; she is his mother.”
28AND THEY HEARD ALL ISRAEL <OBJ.> THE JUDGMENT WHICH HE HAD JUDGED THE KING AND THEY WERE AFRAID OF <THE FACE OF> THE KING FOR THEY SAW THAT [THE] WISDOM OF GOD [WAS] <IN> WITHIN HIM TO DO JUSTICE 28When all Israel heard of the judgment the king had given, they stood in awe of him, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to administer justice.
