Solomon’s Princes
1 So King Solomon ruled over Israel,
2 AND THESE [WERE] THE OFFICIALS WHO [BELONGED] TO <THE> HIM AZARIAH [THE] SON OF ZADOK [WAS] THE PRIEST
2 and these were his chief officials
Azariah son of Zadok was the priest;
3 ELIHOREPH AND AHIJAH [THE] SONS OF SHISHA [WERE] SCRIBES JEHOSHAPHAT [THE] SON OF AHILUD [WAS] THE RECORDER
3 Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha, were secretaries;
Jehoshaphat son of Ahilud was the recorder;
4 AND BENAIAH [THE] SON OF JEHOIADA [WAS] OVER THE ARMY AND ZADOK AND ABIATHAR [WERE] PRIESTS
4 Benaiah son of Jehoiada was in charge of the army;
Zadok and Abiathar were priests;
5 AND AZARIAH [THE] SON OF NATHAN [WAS] OVER THE OVERSEERS AND ZABUD [THE] SON OF NATHAN [WAS] A PRIEST [THE] FRIEND OF THE KING
5 Azariah son of Nathan was in charge of the governors;
Zabud son of Nathan was a priest and adviser to the king;
6 AND AHISHAR [WAS] OVER THE HOUSE AND ADONIRAM [THE] SON OF ABDA [WAS] OVER THE FORCED LABOR
6 Ahishar was in charge of the palace;
and Adoniram son of Abda was in charge of the forced labor.
7 AND [BELONGED] TO SOLOMON TWO [PLUS] TEN OVERSEERS OVER ALL ISRAEL AND THEY SUPPLIED <OBJ.> THE KING AND <OBJ.> HOUSEHOLD HIS A MONTH IN THE YEAR IT WAS ON THE ONE TO SUPPLY
Solomon’s Twelve Officers
7 Solomon had twelve governors over all Israel to provide food for the king and his household. Each one would arrange provisions for one month of the year,
8 AND THESE [ARE] NAMES THEIR BEN- HUR IN [THE] HILL COUNTRY OF EPHRAIM
8 and these were their names:
Ben-hur in the hill country of Ephraim;
9 BEN- DEKER IN MAKAZ AND IN SHAALBIM AND IN BETH SHEMESH AND ELON BETH HANAN
9 Ben-deker in Makaz, in Shaalbim, in Beth-shemesh, and in Elon-beth-hanan;
10 BEN- HESED IN <THE> ARUBBOTH [BELONGED] TO <THE> HIM SOCOH AND ALL [THE] LAND OF HEPHER
10 Ben-hesed in Arubboth (Socoh and all the land of Hepher belonged to him);
11 BEN- ABINADAB ALL NAPHATH OF DOR TAPHATH [THE] DAUGHTER OF SOLOMON SHE BECAME OF HIM <INTO> A WIFE
11 Ben-abinadab in Naphath-dor (Taphath, a daughter of Solomon, was his wife);
12 BAANA [THE] SON OF AHILUD TAANACH AND MEGIDDO AND ALL BETH SHEAN WHICH [IS] BESIDE ZARETHAN <TOWARDS> FROM UNDER TO JEZREEL FROM BETH SHEAN TO ABEL MEHOLAH TO FROM [THE] OTHER SIDE OF JOKMEAM
12 Baana son of Ahilud in Taanach, in Megiddo, and in all of Beth-shean next to Zarethan below Jezreel, from Beth-shean to Abel-meholah and on past Jokmeam;
13 BEN- GEBER IN RAMOTH GILEAD [BELONGED] TO <THE> HIM [THE] VILLAGES OF JAIR [THE] SON OF MANASSEH WHICH [ARE] IN <THE> GILEAD [BELONGED] TO <THE> HIM [THE] REGION OF ARGOB WHICH [IS] IN <THE> BASHAN SIXTY CITIES LARGE A WALL AND BAR[S] OF BRONZE
13 Ben-geber in Ramoth-gilead (the villages of Jair son of Manasseh in Gilead belonged to him, as well as the region of Argob in Bashan with its sixty great cities with walls and bronze bars);
14 AHINADAB [THE] SON OF IDDO MAHANAIM <TOWARDS>
14 Ahinadab son of Iddo in Mahanaim;
15 AHIMAAZ IN NAPHTALI ALSO HE HE TOOK <OBJ.> BASEMATH [THE] DAUGHTER OF SOLOMON TO A WIFE
15 Ahimaaz in Naphtali (he had married Basemath, a daughter of Solomon);
16 BAANA [THE] SON OF HUSHAI IN ASHER AND BEALOTH
16 Baana son of Hushai in Asher and in Aloth;
17 JEHOSHAPHAT [THE] SON OF PARUAH IN ISSACHAR
17 Jehoshaphat son of Paruah in Issachar;
18 SHIMEI [THE] SON OF ELA IN BENJAMIN
18 Shimei son of Ela in Benjamin;
19 GEBER [THE] SON OF URI IN [THE] LAND OF GILEAD [THE] LAND OF SIHON [THE] KING OF THE AMORITE[S] AND OG [THE] KING OF <THE> BASHAN AND AN OVERSEER ONE WHO [WAS] IN THE LAND
19 Geber son of Uri in the land of Gilead, including the territories of Sihon king of the Amorites and of Og king of Bashan.
There was also one governor in the land of Judah.
20 JUDAH AND ISRAEL [WERE] NUMEROUS LIKE THE SAND WHICH [IS] AT THE SEA FOR MULTITUDE [THEY WERE] EATING AND [WERE] DRINKING AND [WERE] JOYFUL
Solomon’s Prosperity
20 The people of Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand on the seashore, and they were eating and drinking and rejoicing.
21 AND SOLOMON HE WAS RULING OVER ALL THE KINGDOMS FROM THE RIVER [THE] LAND OF [THE] PHILISTINES AND TO [THE] BORDER OF EGYPT [THEY WERE] BRINGING TRIBUTE AND [WERE] SERVING <OBJ.> SOLOMON ALL [THE] DAYS OF LIFE HIS
21 And Solomon reigned over all the kingdoms from the Euphrates to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. These kingdoms offered tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life.
22 AND IT WAS [THE] FOOD OF SOLOMON FOR A DAY ONE THIRTY COR[S] OF FINE FLOUR AND SIXTY COR[S] OF FLOUR
22 Solomon’s provisions for a single day were thirty cors of fine flour, sixty cors of meal,
23 TEN CATTLE FAT AND TWENTY CATTLE PASTURE AND ONE HUNDRED SHEEP <TO> APART FROM DEER AND GAZELLE AND ROE-DEER AND BIRDS FATTENED
23 ten fat oxen, twenty range oxen, and a hundred sheep, as well as deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fattened poultry.
24 FOR HE [WAS] RULING OVER ALL [THE] OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER FROM TIPHSAH AND TO GAZA OVER ALL [THE] KINGS OF [THE] OTHER SIDE OF THE RIVER AND PEACE IT BELONGED TO <THE> HIM FROM ALL SIDES HIS FROM ROUND ABOUT
24 For Solomon had dominion over everything west of the Euphrates — over all the kingdoms from Tiphsah to Gaza— and he had peace on all sides.
25 AND IT DWELT JUDAH AND ISRAEL TO SECURITY EVERYONE UNDER OWN VINE HIS AND UNDER OWN FIG TREE HIS FROM DAN AND TO BEER SHEBA ALL [THE] DAYS OF SOLOMON
25 Throughout the days of Solomon, Judah and Israel dwelt securely from Dan to Beersheba, each man under his own vine and his own fig tree.
26 AND IT BELONGED TO SOLOMON FORTY THOUSAND STALLS OF HORSES FOR CHARIOTRY HIS AND TWO [PLUS] TEN THOUSAND HORSEMEN
26 Solomon had 4,000. stalls for his chariot horses and 12,000 horses.
27 AND THEY SUPPLIED THE OVERSEERS <THE> THESE <OBJ.> THE KING SOLOMON AND <OBJ.> EVERY <THE> [PERSON] APPROACHING TO [THE] TABLE OF THE KING SOLOMON EACH MONTH HIS NOT THEY LEFT LACKING ANYTHING
27 Each month the governors in turn provided food for King Solomon and all who came to his table. They saw to it that nothing was lacking.
28 AND THE BARLEY<S> AND THE STRAW FOR THE HORSES AND FOR THE STEED[S] THEY BROUGHT TO THE PLACE WHERE IT WAS THERE EACH ACCORDING TO MEASURE HIS
28 Each one also brought to the required place. their quotas of barley and straw for the chariot horses and other horses.
29 AND HE GAVE GOD WISDOM TO SOLOMON AND UNDERSTANDING GREAT VERY AND BREADTH OF HEART LIKE THE SAND WHICH [IS] ON [THE] SHORE OF THE SEA
Solomon’s Wisdom
29 And God gave Solomon wisdom, exceedingly deep insight, and understanding beyond measure, like the sand on the seashore.
30 AND IT WAS GREAT [THE] WISDOM OF SOLOMON MORE THAN [THE] WISDOM OF ALL [THE] PEOPLE OF [THE] EAST AND MORE THAN ALL [THE] WISDOM OF EGYPT
30 Solomon’s wisdom was greater than that of all the men of the East, greater than all the wisdom of Egypt.
31 AND HE WAS WISE MORE THAN ANY <THE> HUMAN MORE THAN ETHAN THE EZRACHITE AND HEMAN AND KALKOL AND DARDA [THE] SONS OF MAHOL AND IT WAS NAME HIS AMONG ALL THE NATIONS AROUND
31 He was wiser than all men— wiser than Ethan the Ezrahite, and wiser than Heman, Calcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol. And his fame spread throughout the surrounding nations.
32 AND HE SPOKE THREE THOUSAND<S> PROVERB[S] AND IT WAS SONG HIS FIVE AND ONE THOUSAND
32 Solomon composed three thousand proverbs, and his songs numbered a thousand and five.
33 AND HE SPOKE ON THE TREES FROM THE CEDAR WHICH [IS] IN <THE> LEBANON AND TO THE HYSSOP WHICH [IS] COMING OUT IN THE WALL AND HE SPOKE ON THE ANIMAL[S] AND ON THE BIRD[S] AND ON THE CREEPING THING[S] AND ON THE FISH
33 He spoke of trees, from the cedar in Lebanon to the hyssop growing in the wall, and he taught about animals, birds, reptiles, and fish.
34 AND PEOPLE CAME FROM ALL THE PEOPLES TO HEAR <OBJ.> [THE] WISDOM OF SOLOMON FROM WITH ALL [THE] KINGS OF THE EARTH WHO THEY HAD HEARD <OBJ.> WISDOM HIS
34 So men of all nations came to listen to Solomon’s wisdom, sent by all the kings of the earth, who had heard of his wisdom.
