Samuel’s Farewell Address
1 Then Samuel said to all Israel, “I have listened to your voice in all that you have said to me, and I have set over you a king.
2 AND NOW HERE! THE KING [IS] WALKING ABOUT <TO> BEFORE YOU AND I I AM OLD AND I AM GRAY HAIRED AND SONS MY HERE THEY [ARE] WITH YOU AND I I HAVE WALKED ABOUT <TO> BEFORE YOU SINCE YOUTH<S> MY UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS
2 Now here is the king walking before you, and I am old and gray, and my sons are here with you. I have walked before you from my youth until this day.
3 HERE [AM] I TESTIFY AGAINST <THE> ME BEFORE YAHWEH AND BEFORE ANOINTED HIS <OBJ.> [THE] OX OF WHOM? HAVE I TAKEN AND [THE] DONKEY OF WHOM? HAVE I TAKEN AND <OBJ.> WHOM? HAVE I OPPRESSED <OBJ.> WHOM? HAVE I CRUSHED AND FROM [THE] HAND OF WHOM? HAVE I TAKEN A RANSOM SO I MAY HIDE EYES MY BY <THE> IT SO I MAY RESTORE [IT] TO <THE> YOU
3 Here I am. Bear witness against me before the LORD and before His anointed: Whose ox or donkey have I taken? Whom have I cheated or oppressed? From whose hand have I accepted a bribe and closed my eyes? Tell me, and I will restore it to you.”
4 AND THEY SAID NOT YOU HAVE OPPRESSED US AND NOT YOU HAVE CRUSHED US AND NOT YOU HAVE TAKEN FROM [THE] HAND OF ANYONE ANYTHING
4 “You have not cheated us or oppressed us,” they replied, “nor have you taken anything from the hand of man.”
5 AND HE SAID TO THEM [IS] A WITNESS YAHWEH ON <THE> YOU AND [IS] A WITNESS ANOINTED HIS THE DAY <THE> THIS THAT NOT YOU HAVE FOUND IN HAND MY ANYTHING AND SOMEONE SAID [HE IS] A WITNESS
5 Samuel said to them, “The LORD is a witness against you, and His anointed is a witness today, that you have not found anything in my hand.”
“He is a witness,” they replied.
6 AND HE SAID SAMUEL TO THE PEOPLE YAHWEH WHO HE APPOINTED <OBJ.> MOSES AND <OBJ.> AARON AND WHO HE BROUGHT UP <OBJ.> ANCESTORS YOUR FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT
6 Then Samuel said to the people, “The LORD is the One who appointed Moses and Aaron, and who brought your fathers up out of the land of Egypt.
7 AND THEREFORE PRESENT YOURSELVES SO LET ME ENTER INTO JUDGMENT WITH YOU <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH <OBJ.> ALL [THE] RIGHTEOUSNESS<ES> OF YAHWEH WHICH HE DID WITH YOU AND WITH ANCESTORS YOUR
7 Now present yourselves, so that I may confront you before the LORD with all the righteous acts He has done for you and your fathers.
8 JUST WHEN HE WENT JACOB EGYPT AND THEY CRIED OUT ANCESTORS YOUR TO YAHWEH AND HE SENT YAHWEH <OBJ.> MOSES AND <OBJ.> AARON AND THEY BROUGHT OUT <OBJ.> ANCESTORS YOUR FROM EGYPT AND THEY CAUSED TO DWELL THEM IN THE PLACE <THE> THIS
8 When Jacob went to Egypt, your fathers cried out to the LORD, and He sent them Moses and Aaron, who brought your fathers out of Egypt and settled them in this place.
9 AND THEY FORGOT <OBJ.> YAHWEH GOD THEIR AND HE SOLD <OBJ.> THEM IN [THE] HAND OF SISERA [THE] COMMANDER OF [THE] ARMY OF HAZOR AND IN [THE] HAND OF [THE] PHILISTINES AND IN [THE] HAND OF [THE] KING OF MOAB AND THEY FOUGHT AGAINST <THE> THEM
9 But they forgot the LORD their God, and He sold them into the hand of Sisera the commander of the army of Hazor, and into the hands of the Philistines and the king of Moab, who fought against them.
10 AND THEY CRIED OUT TO YAHWEH AND THEY SAID WE HAVE SINNED FOR WE HAVE FORSAKEN <OBJ.> YAHWEH AND WE HAVE SERVED <OBJ.> THE BAALS AND <OBJ.> THE ASHTAROTH AND NOW DELIVER US FROM [THE] HAND OF ENEMIES OUR SO WE MAY SERVE YOU
10 Then they cried out to the LORD and said, ‘We have sinned, for we have forsaken the LORD and served the Baals and Ashtoreths. Now deliver us from the hands of our enemies, that we may serve You.’
11 AND HE SENT YAHWEH <OBJ.> JERUB-BAAL AND <OBJ.> BEDAN AND <OBJ.> JEPHTHAH AND <OBJ.> SAMUEL AND HE DELIVERED <OBJ.> YOU FROM [THE] HAND OF ENEMIES YOUR FROM ROUND ABOUT AND YOU DWELT SECURITY
11 So the LORD sent Jerubbaal, Barak, Jephthah, and Samuel, and He delivered you from the hands of your enemies on every side, and you dwelt securely.
12 AND YOU SAW THAT NAHASH [THE] KING OF [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON [WAS] COMING ON YOU AND YOU SAID TO <THE> ME IN- DEED A KING HE WILL REIGN OVER US AND YAHWEH GOD YOUR [WAS] KING YOUR
12 But when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites was moving against you, you said to me, ‘No, we must have a king to rule over us’— even though the LORD your God was your king.
13 AND NOW HERE! THE KING WHOM YOU HAVE CHOSEN WHOM YOU ASKED FOR AND HERE! HE HAS SET YAHWEH OVER YOU A KING
13 Now here is the king you have chosen, the one you requested. Behold, the LORD has placed a king over you.
14 IF YOU WILL FEAR <OBJ.> YAHWEH AND YOU WILL SERVE <OBJ.> HIM AND YOU WILL LISTEN TO VOICE HIS AND NOT YOU WILL REBEL AGAINST <OBJ.> [THE] MOUTH OF YAHWEH AND YOU WILL BE BOTH YOU <AND> AS WELL AS THE KING WHO HE HAS BECOME KING OVER YOU AFTER YAHWEH GOD YOUR
14 If you fear the LORD and serve Him and obey His voice, and if you do not rebel against the command of the LORD, and if both you and the king who rules over you follow the LORD your God, then all will be well.
15 AND IF NOT YOU WILL LISTEN TO [THE] VOICE OF YAHWEH AND YOU WILL REBEL AGAINST <OBJ.> [THE] MOUTH OF YAHWEH AND IT WILL BE [THE] HAND OF YAHWEH ON YOU AND ON ANCESTORS YOUR
15 But if you disobey the LORD and rebel against His command, then the hand of the LORD will be against you as it was against your fathers.
16 ALSO NOW STAND AND SEE <OBJ.> THE THING <THE> GREAT <THE> THIS WHICH YAHWEH [IS] ABOUT TO DO TO EYES YOUR
16 Now, therefore, present yourselves and see this great thing that the LORD will do before your eyes.
17 ¿ NOT [IS] [THE] HARVEST OF WHEAT<S> THIS DAY I WILL CALL OUT TO YAHWEH SO HE MAY GIVE THUNDER CLAPS AND RAIN AND KNOW AND SEE THAT EVIL YOUR [IS] GREAT WHICH YOU HAVE DONE IN [THE] EYES OF YAHWEH BY ASKING FOR <THE> YOURSELVES A KING
17 Is it not the wheat harvest today? I will call on the LORD to send thunder and rain, so that you will know and see what a great evil you have committed in the sight of the LORD by asking for a king.”
18 AND HE CALLED OUT SAMUEL TO YAHWEH AND HE GAVE YAHWEH THUNDER CLAPS AND RAIN ON THE DAY <THE> THAT AND IT FEARED ALL THE PEOPLE EXCEEDINGLY <OBJ.> YAHWEH AND <OBJ.> SAMUEL
18 So Samuel called to the LORD, and on that day the LORD sent thunder and rain.
As a result, all the people greatly feared the LORD and Samuel.
19 AND THEY SAID ALL THE PEOPLE TO SAMUEL PRAY FOR SERVANTS YOUR TO YAHWEH GOD YOUR AND MAY NOT WE DIE FOR WE HAVE ADDED TO ALL SINS OUR AN EVIL THING BY ASKING FOR <THE> OURSELVES A KING
19 They pleaded with Samuel, “Pray to the LORD your God for your servants so that we will not die! For we have added to all our sins the evil of asking for a king.”
20 AND HE SAID SAMUEL TO THE PEOPLE MAY NOT YOU BE AFRAID YOU YOU HAVE DONE <OBJ.> ALL THE EVIL <THE> THIS NEVERTHELESS MAY NOT YOU TURN ASIDE FROM AFTER YAHWEH AND YOU WILL SERVE <OBJ.> YAHWEH WITH ALL HEART YOUR
20 “Do not be afraid,” Samuel replied. “Even though you have committed all this evil, do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart.
21 AND NOT YOU MUST TURN ASIDE FOR AFTER <THE> EMPTINESS WHICH NOT THEY WILL BENEFIT AND NOT THEY WILL RESCUE FOR [ARE] EMPTINESS THEY
21 Do not turn aside after worthless things that cannot profit you or deliver you, for they are empty.
22 FOR NOT HE WILL ABANDON YAHWEH <OBJ.> PEOPLE HIS FOR SAKE OF NAME HIS <THE> GREAT FOR HE WAS DETERMINED YAHWEH TO MAKE <OBJ.> YOU FOR <THE> HIMSELF INTO A PEOPLE
22 Indeed, for the sake of His great name, the LORD will not abandon His people, because He was pleased to make you His own.
23 ALSO I FAR BE IT TO <THE> ME FROM SINNING TO YAHWEH FROM CEASING TO PRAY FOR YOU AND I WILL TEACH <OBJ.> YOU <IN> [THE] WAY OF THE GOOD AND THE UPRIGHT
23 As for me, far be it from me that I should sin against the LORD by ceasing to pray for you. And I will continue to teach you the good and right way.
24 ONLY FEAR <OBJ.> YAHWEH AND YOU WILL SERVE <OBJ.> HIM IN FAITHFULNESS WITH ALL HEART YOUR FOR CONSIDER <OBJ.> THIS: HE HAS DONE GREAT THINGS WITH YOU
24 Above all, fear the LORD and serve Him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things He has done for you.
25 AND IF STILL <DO EVIL> YOU WILL DO EVIL BOTH YOU AS WELL AS KING YOUR YOU WILL BE SWEPT AWAY
25 But if you persist in doing evil, both you and your king will be swept away.”
