34AND IT WENT UP THE BATTLE ON THE DAY <THE> THAT AND [THE] KING OF ISRAEL HE WAS [WAS] HOLDING UPRIGHT IN THE CHARIOT OPPOSITE TO ARAM UNTIL THE EVENING AND HE DIED TO [THE] TIME OF [THE] GOING OF THE SUN 34The battle raged throughout that day, and the king of Israel propped himself up in his chariot facing the Arameans until evening. And at sunset he died.
1AND HE RETURNED JEHOSHAPHAT [THE] KING OF JUDAH TO HOUSE HIS IN SAFETY TO JERUSALEM Jehoshaphat Reproved by Jehu 1When Jehoshaphat king of Judah had returned safely to his home in Jerusalem,
2AND HE WENT OUT TO FACE HIS JEHU [THE] SON OF HANANI THE SEER AND HE SAID TO THE KING JEHOSHAPHAT ¿ <TO> THE WICKED TO HELP AND <TO> [THOSE WHO] HATE <OF> YAHWEH WILL YOU LOVE? AND BY THIS [IS] TOWARDS YOU WRATH FROM TO BEFORE YAHWEH 2Jehu son of Hanani the seer went out to confront him and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the LORD? Because of this, the wrath of the LORD is upon you.
3BUT THINGS GOOD THEY HAVE BEEN FOUND WITH YOU FOR YOU HAVE REMOVED THE ASHERAH POLES FROM THE LAND AND YOU HAVE DIRECTED HEART YOUR TO SEEK <THE> GOD 3However, some good is found in you, for you have removed the Asherah poles from the land and have set your heart on seeking God.”
4AND HE DWELT JEHOSHAPHAT IN JERUSALEM AND HE RETURNED AND HE WENT OUT AMONG THE PEOPLE FROM BEER SHEBA TO [THE] HILL COUNTRY OF EPHRAIM AND HE TURNED BACK THEM TO YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ANCESTORS THEIR Jehoshaphat’s Reforms 4Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem, and once again he went out among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim and turned them back to the LORD, the God of their fathers.
5AND HE APPOINTED JUDGES IN THE LAND IN ALL [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH <THE> FORTIFIED FOR A CITY AND A CITY 5He appointed judges in the land, in each of the fortified cities of Judah.
6AND HE SAID TO THE JUDGES CONSIDER WHAT? [ARE] YOU DOING FOR NOT FOR HUMANKIND YOU WILL JUDGE FOR FOR YAHWEH AND WITH YOU IN A MATTER OF JUDGMENT 6Then he said to the judges, “Consider carefully what you do, for you are not judging for man, but for the LORD, who is with you when you render judgment.
7AND THEREFORE LET IT BE [THE] DREAD OF YAHWEH ON YOU TAKE CARE AND ACT FOR THERE NOT WITH YAHWEH GOD OUR [IS] INJUSTICE AND LIFTING UP OF FACE AND TAKING OF A BRIBE 7And now, may the fear of the LORD be upon you. Be careful what you do, for with the LORD our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery
8AND ALSO IN JERUSALEM HE APPOINTED JEHOSHAPHAT SOME OF THE LEVITES AND THE PRIESTS AND SOME OF [THE] HEADS OF THE FATHERS OF ISRAEL FOR [THE] JUDGMENT OF YAHWEH AND FOR <THE> DISPUTE[S] AND THEY RETURNED JERUSALEM 8Moreover, Jehoshaphat appointed in Jerusalem some of the Levites, priests, and heads of the Israelite families to judge on behalf of the LORD and to settle disputes. And they lived in Jerusalem.
9AND HE COMMANDED TO THEM <TO> SAYING THUS YOU WILL DO! IN [THE] FEAR OF YAHWEH IN FAITHFULNESS AND WITH A HEART COMPLETE 9He commanded them, saying, “You must serve faithfully and wholeheartedly in the fear of the LORD.
10AND EVERY CASE AT LAW WHICH IT WILL COME ON YOU FROM BROTHERS YOUR WHO DWELL IN CITIES THEIR BETWEEN BLOOD AND BLOOD BETWEEN LAW AND COMMANDMENT AND STATUTES AND <TO> JUDGMENTS AND YOU WILL WARN <OBJ.> THEM AND NOT THEY WILL BE GUILTY TO YAHWEH AND IT WILL BE WRATH TOWARDS YOU AND TOWARDS BROTHERS YOUR THUS YOU WILL DO! AND NOT YOU WILL BE GUILTY 10For every dispute that comes before you from your brothers who dwell in their cities— whether it regards bloodshed or some other violation of law, commandments, statutes, or ordinances— you are to warn them, so that they will not incur guilt before the LORD and wrath will not come upon you and your brothers. Do this, and you will not incur guilt.
11AND HERE! AMARIAH [THE] PRIEST OF THE HEAD [WILL BE] OVER YOU TO EVERY <THE> MATTER OF YAHWEH AND ZEBADIAH [THE] SON OF ISHMAEL THE LEADER OF [THE] HOUSE OF JUDAH TO EVERY <THE> MATTER OF THE KING AND [WILL BE] OFFICIALS THE LEVITES <TO> BEFORE YOU BE STRONG AND ACT SO MAY HE BE YAHWEH WITH THE GOOD 11Note that Amariah, the chief priest, will be over you in all that pertains to the LORD, and Zebadiah son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, in all that pertains to the king. And the Levites will serve as officers before you. Act resolutely; may the LORD be with the upright!”
