24NOT FOR WE LORD IT OVER YOUR <THE> FAITH, BUT FELLOW WORKERS ARE OF THE JOY WITH YOU; IN THE FOR FAITH YOU HAVE STOOD FIRM. 24Not that we lord it over your faith, but we are fellow workers with you for your joy, because it is by faith that you stand firm.
1I JUDGED FOR WITHIN MYSELF THIS <THE> NOT AGAIN IN GRIEF TO YOU TO COME. Reaffirm Your Love 1So I made up my mind not to make another painful visit to you.
2IF FOR I MYSELF GRIEVE YOU AGAIN WHO IS THE [ONE] GLADDENING ME EXCEPT NOT THE [ONE] BEING GRIEVED BY ME? 2For if I grieve you, who is left to cheer me but those whom I have grieved?
3AND I WROTE TO YOU THIS SAME THING, SO THAT NOT HAVING COME GRIEF I MAY HAVE FROM [THOSE] OF WHOM IT WAS NECESSARY ME TO REJOICE HAVING TRUSTED IN ALL YOU THAT <THE> MY JOY OF ALL OF YOU IS. 3I wrote as I did so that on my arrival I would not be grieved by those who ought to make me rejoice. I had confidence in all of you, that you would share my joy.
4OUT OF FOR MUCH AFFLICTION AND ANGUISH OF HEART I WROTE TO YOU THROUGH MANY TEARS, NOT THAT YOU MAY BE GRIEVED, BUT THE LOVE THAT YOU MAY KNOW THAT I HAVE MORE ABUNDANTLY TOWARD YOU. 4For through many tears I wrote you out of great distress and anguish of heart, not to grieve you but to let you know how much I love you.
5IF HOWEVER ANYONE HAS CAUSED GRIEF, NOT ME MYSELF HAS HE GRIEVED BUT IN PART — THAT NOT I MAY BURDEN ALL YOU. 5Now if anyone has caused grief, he has not grieved me but all of you— to some degree, not to overstate it.
6SUFFICIENT <THE> TO SUCH A ONE [IS] THE PUNISHMENT THIS WHICH [IS] BY THE MAJORITY, 6The punishment imposed on him by the majority is sufficient for him.
7SO THAT ON THE CONTRARY RATHER FOR YOU TO FORGIVE AND TO COMFORT [HIM], LEST PERHAPS <THE> BY MORE EXCESSIVE SORROW MAY BE OVERWHELMED <THE> SUCH A ONE. 7So instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him, so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow.
8THEREFORE I EXHORT YOU TO CONFIRM TOWARD HIM LOVE. 8Therefore I urge you to reaffirm your love for him.
9FOR THIS INDEED ALSO DID I WRITE, SO THAT I MAY KNOW THE PROOF OF YOU, WHETHER TO EVERYTHING OBEDIENT YOU ARE. 9My purpose in writing you was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything.
10TO WHOMEVER NOW ANYTHING YOU FORGIVE, I ALSO MYSELF; AND FOR I MYSELF TO WHOM I HAVE FORGIVEN, IF ANYTHING I HAVE FORGIVEN, [IT IS] FOR YOU IN [THE] PRESENCE OF CHRIST, 10If you forgive anyone, I also forgive him. And if I have forgiven anything, I have forgiven it in the presence of Christ for your sake,
11SO THAT NOT WE MAY BE OUTWITTED BY <THE> SATAN; NOT FOR OF HIS <THE> SCHEMES WE ARE IGNORANT. 11in order that Satan should not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
12HAVING COME NOW TO <THE> TROAS FOR THE GOSPEL <THE> OF CHRIST ALSO A DOOR TO ME HAVING BEEN OPENED IN [THE] LORD, Triumph in Christ 12Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and a door stood open for me in the Lord,
13NOT I HAVE HAD REST IN THE SPIRIT OF MINE IN THE NOT FINDING MY TITUS THE BROTHER OF MINE, INSTEAD HAVING TAKEN LEAVE OF THEM I WENT OUT TO MACEDONIA. 13I had no peace in my spirit, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said goodbye to them and went on to Macedonia.
14<THE> HOWEVER TO GOD [BE] THANKS TO THE [ONE] ALWAYS LEADING IN TRIUMPH US IN <THE> CHRIST AND THE FRAGRANCE OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIM MAKING MANIFEST THROUGH US IN EVERY PLACE, 14But thanks be to God, who always leads us triumphantly as captives in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of Him.
15FOR OF CHRIST A SWEET PERFUME WE ARE <THE> TO GOD IN THOSE BEING SAVED AND IN THOSE PERISHING, 15For we are to God the sweet aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing.
16TO ONE INDEED AN ODOR FROM DEATH TO DEATH, TO ONE HOWEVER A FRAGRANCE FROM LIFE TO LIFE. AND FOR THESE THINGS WHO [IS] SUFFICIENT? 16To the one we are an odor that brings death to the other a fragrance that brings life.*NoteCloseLiterally To the one, indeed, an aroma from death to death; but to the other, an aroma from life to life. And who is qualified for such a task?
17NOT FOR WE ARE LIKE THE MANY PEDDLING THE WORD <THE> OF GOD, BUT AS OF SINCERITY, BUT AS OF GOD, BEFORE <THE> GOD IN CHRIST WE SPEAK. 17For we are not like so many others, who peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as men sent from God.
