53AND HE SERVED <OBJ.> <THE> BAAL AND HE BOWED DOWN TO IT AND HE PROVOKED TO ANGER <OBJ.> YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL ACCORDING TO ALL THAT HE HAD DONE FATHER HIS 53Ahaziah served and worshiped Baal provoking the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger, just as his father had done.
1AND IT REBELLED MOAB AGAINST ISRAEL AFTER [THE] DEATH OF AHAB Elijah Denounces Ahaziah (1 Kings 22:51–53) 1After the death of Ahab, Moab rebelled against Israel.
2AND HE FELL AHAZIAH THROUGH THE WINDOW-LATTICE IN UPPER ROOM HIS WHICH [WAS] IN SAMARIA AND HE BECAME ILL AND HE SENT MESSENGERS AND HE SAID TO THEM GO CONSULT <IN> BAAL ZEBUB [THE] GOD OF EKRON IF I WILL LIVE FROM SICKNESS THIS 2Now Ahaziah had fallen through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria and injured himself. So he sent messengers and instructed them: “Go inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I will recover from this injury.”
3AND [THE] ANGEL OF YAHWEH HE SPOKE TO ELIJAH THE TISHBITE ARISE GO UP TO MEET [THE] MESSENGERS OF [THE] KING OF SAMARIA AND SPEAK TO THEM ¿ BECASUE NOT THERE NOT [IS] A GOD IN ISRAEL [ARE] YOU GOING TO CONSULT <IN> BAAL ZEBUB [THE] GOD OF EKRON 3But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, “Go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria and ask them, ‘Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are on your way to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron?’
4AND <TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH THE BED WHERE YOU HAVE GONE UP THERE NOT YOU WILL COME DOWN FROM IT FOR CERTAINLY <TO DIE> YOU WILL DIE AND HE WENT ELIJAH 4Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘You will not get up from the bed on which you are lying. You will surely die So Elijah departed.
5AND THEY RETURNED THE MESSENGERS TO HIM AND HE SAID TO THEM WHY? THIS HAVE YOU RETURNED 5When the messengers returned to the king, he asked them, “Why have you returned?”
6AND THEY SAID TO HIM A MAN HE CAME UP TO MEET US AND HE SAID TO US GO RETURN TO THE KING WHO HE SENT <OBJ.> YOU AND YOU WILL SPEAK TO HIM THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH ¿ BECAUSE NOT THERE NOT [IS] A GOD IN ISRAEL [ARE] YOU SENDING TO CONSULT <IN> BAAL ZEBUB [THE] GOD EKRON <TO> THEREFORE THE BED WHERE YOU HAVE GONE UP THERE NOT YOU WILL COME DOWN FROM IT FOR CERTAINLY <TO DIE> YOU WILL DIE 6They replied “A man came up to meet us and said ‘Go back to the king who sent you and tell him that this is what the LORD says: Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending these men to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you will not get up from the bed on which you are lying You will surely die
7AND HE SPOKE TO THEM WHAT? [WAS] [THE] APPEARANCE OF THE MAN WHO HE CAME UP TO MEET YOU AND HE SPOKE TO YOU <OBJ.> THE WORDS <THE> THESE 7The king asked them, “What sort of man came up to meet you and spoke these words to you?”
8AND THEY SAID TO HIM A MAN AN OWNER OF HAIR AND A LOINCLOTH OF HIDE [WAS] GIRDED ON LOINS HIS AND HE SAID [WAS] ELIJAH THE TISHBITE THAT 8“He was a hairy man,*NoteCloseOr He had a garment of hair ” they answered,. with a leather belt around his waist.” “It was Elijah the Tishbite,” said the king.
9AND HE SENT TO HIM A COMMANDER OF A FIFTY AND FIFTY [MEN] HIS AND HE WENT UP TO HIM AND THERE! [HE WAS] SITTING ON [THE] TOP OF THE HILL AND HE SPOKE TO HIM O MAN OF <THE> GOD THE KING HE HAS SPOKEN COME DOWN! 9Then King Ahaziah sent to Elijah a captain with his company of fifty men. So the captain went up to Elijah, who was sitting on top of a hill, and said to him, “Man of God, the king declares, ‘Come down!’”
10AND HE ANSWERED ELIJAH AND HE SPOKE TO [THE] COMMANDER OF THE FIFTY AND IF [AM] A MAN OF GOD I LET IT COME DOWN FIRE FROM THE HEAVENS AND LET IT CONSUME <OBJ.> YOU AND <OBJ.> FIFTY [MEN] YOUR AND IT CAME DOWN FIRE FROM THE HEAVENS AND IT CONSUMED <OBJ.> HIM AND <OBJ.> FIFTY [MEN] HIS 10Elijah answered the captain, “If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” And fire came down from heaven and consumed the captain and his fifty men.
11AND HE RETURNED AND HE SENT TO HIM A COMMANDER OF A FIFTY ANOTHER AND FIFTY [MEN] HIS AND HE ANSWERED AND HE SPOKE TO HIM O MAN OF <THE> GOD THUS HE SAYS THE KING QUICKLY COME DOWN! 11So the king sent to Elijah another captain with his fifty men. And the captain said to Elijah, “Man of God, the king declares, ‘Come down at once!’”
12AND HE ANSWERED ELIJAH AND HE SPOKE TO THEM IF [AM] [THE] MAN OF <THE> GOD I LET IT COME DOWN FIRE FROM THE HEAVENS AND LET IT CONSUME <OBJ.> YOU AND <OBJ.> FIFTY [MEN] YOUR AND IT CAME DOWN [THE] FIRE OF GOD FROM THE HEAVENS AND IT CONSUMED <OBJ.> HIM AND <OBJ.> FIFTY [MEN] HIS 12Again Elijah replied, “If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men.” And the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed the captain and his fifty men.
13AND HE RETURNED AND HE SENT A COMMANDER OF A FIFTY THIRD AND FIFTY [MEN] HIS AND HE WENT UP AND HE WENT [THE] COMMANDER OF THE FIFTY <THE> THIRD AND HE BOWED DOWN ON KNEES HIS TO BEFORE ELIJAH AND HE SOUGHT FAVOR TO HIM AND HE SPOKE TO HIM O MAN OF <THE> GOD LET IT BE PRECIOUS PLEASE LIFE MY AND [THE] LIFE OF SERVANTS YOUR THESE FIFTY [MEN] IN VIEW YOUR 13So the king sent a third captain with his fifty men. And the third captain went up, fell on his knees before Elijah, and begged him, “Man of God, may my life and the lives of these fifty servants of yours please be precious in your sight.
14HERE! IT HAS COME DOWN FIRE FROM THE HEAVENS AND IT HAS CONSUMED <OBJ.> [THE] TWO [THE] COMMANDERS OF THE FIFTIES <THE> FORMER AND <OBJ.> FIFTY [MEN] THEIR AND NOW LET IT BE PRECIOUS LIFE MY IN VIEW YOUR 14Behold, fire has come down from heaven and consumed the first two captains of fifty, with all their men. But now may my life be precious in your sight.”
15AND HE SPOKE [THE] ANGEL OF YAHWEH TO ELIJAH GO DOWN <OBJ.> HIM MAY NOT YOU BE AFRAID OF <BEFORE> HIM AND HE AROSE AND HE WENT DOWN <OBJ.> HIM TO THE KING 15Then the angel of the LORD said to Elijah, “Go down with him. Do not be afraid of him.” So Elijah got up and went down with him to the king.
16AND HE SPOKE TO HIM THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH BECAUSE THAT YOU HAVE SENT MESSENGERS TO CONSULT <IN> BAAL ZEBUB [THE] GOD OF EKRON ¿ BECAUSE NOT [IS] THERE NOT A GOD IN ISRAEL TO CONSULT <IN> WORD HIS <TO> THEREFORE THE BED WHERE YOU HAVE GONE UP THERE NOT YOU WILL COME DOWN FROM IT FOR CERTAINLY <TO DIE> YOU WILL DIE 16And Elijah said to King Ahaziah, “This is what the LORD says: Is there really no God in Israel for you to inquire of His word? Is that why you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you will not get up from the bed on which you are lying You will surely die
17AND HE DIED ACCORDING TO [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH WHICH HE SPOKE ELIJAH AND HE BECAME KING JEHORAM IN PLACE OF HIM IN YEAR TWO OF JEHORAM [THE] SON OF JEHOSHAPHAT [THE] KING OF JUDAH FOR NOT HE BELONGED TO HIM A SON Jehoram Succeeds Ahaziah 17So Ahaziah died according to the word of the LORD that Elijah had spoken. And since he had no son, Jehoram*NoteCloseJehoram is a variant spelling of Joram. succeeded him in the second year of the reign of Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat over Judah.
18AND [THE] REST OF [THE] MATTERS OF AHAZIAH WHICH HE DID ¿ NOT [ARE] THEY WRITTEN ON [THE] SCROLL OF [THE] MATTERS OF THE DAYS OF [THE] KINGS OF ISRAEL 18As for the rest of the acts of Ahaziah, along with his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
