18AND [THE] REST OF [THE] MATTERS OF AHAZIAH WHICH HE DID ¿ NOT [ARE] THEY WRITTEN ON [THE] SCROLL OF [THE] MATTERS OF THE DAYS OF [THE] KINGS OF ISRAEL 18As for the rest of the acts of Ahaziah, along with his accomplishments, are they not written in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Israel?
1AND IT WAS WHEN TOOK UP YAHWEH <OBJ.> ELIJAH BY THE WHIRLWIND THE HEAVENS AND HE WENT ELIJAH AND ELISHA FROM <THE> GILGAL Elijah Taken Up to Heaven 1Shortly before the LORD took Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal,
2AND HE SAID ELIJAH TO ELISHA REMAIN PLEASE HERE FOR YAHWEH HE HAS SENT ME TO BETH- -EL AND HE SAID ELISHA [BY] [THE] LIFE OF YAHWEH AND [BY] [THE] LIFE OF SELF YOUR IF I WILL LEAVE YOU AND THEY WENT DOWN BETH- -EL 2and Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to Bethel.” But Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.
3AND THEY CAME OUT [THE] SONS OF THE PROPHETS WHO [WERE AT] BETH- -EL TO ELISHA AND THEY SAID TO HIM ¿ DO YOU KNOW THAT THIS DAY YAHWEH [IS] ABOUT TO TAKE <OBJ.> MASTER<S> YOUR FROM OVER HEAD YOUR AND HE SAID ALSO I I KNOW BE SILENT 3Then the sons of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and said, “Do you know that the LORD will take your master away from you today?” “Yes, I know,” he replied. “Do not speak of it.”
4AND HE SAID TO HIM ELIJAH O ELISHA REMAIN PLEASE HERE FOR YAHWEH HE HAS SENT ME JERICHO AND HE SAID [BY] [THE] LIFE OF YAHWEH AND [BY] [THE] LIFE OF SELF YOUR IF I WILL LEAVE YOU AND THEY WENT JERICHO 4And Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to Jericho.” But Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went to Jericho.
5AND THEY DREW NEAR [THE] SONS OF THE PROPHETS WHO [WERE] AT JERICHO TO ELISHA AND THEY SAID TO HIM ¿ DO YOU KNOW THAT THIS DAY YAHWEH [IS] ABOUT TO TAKE <OBJ.> MASTER<S> YOUR FROM OVER HEAD YOUR AND HE SAID ALSO I I KNOW BE SILENT 5Then the sons of the prophets at Jericho came up to Elisha and said, “Do you know that the LORD will take your master away from you today?” “Yes, I know,” he replied. “Do not speak of it.”
6AND HE SAID TO HIM ELIJAH REMAIN PLEASE HERE FOR YAHWEH HE HAS SENT ME THE JORDAN TOWARDS AND HE SAID [BY] [THE] LIFE OF YAHWEH AND [BY] [THE] LIFE OF SELF YOUR IF I WILL LEAVE YOU AND THEY WENT [THE] TWO OF THEM 6And Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to the Jordan.” But Elisha replied, “As surely as the LORD lives and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So the two of them went on.
7AND FIFTY MAN FROM [THE] SONS OF THE PROPHETS THEY WENT AND THEY STOOD FROM BEFORE FROM A DISTANCE AND [THE] TWO OF THEM THEY STOOD AT THE JORDAN 7Then a company of fifty of the sons of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing Elijah and Elisha as the two of them stood by the Jordan.
8AND HE TOOK ELIJAH <OBJ.> CLOAK HIS AND HE FOLDED IT UP AND HE STRUCK <OBJ.> THE WATERS AND THEY WERE DIVIDED HITHER AND HITHER AND THEY PASSED OVER [THE] TWO OF THEM ON THE DRY GROUND 8And Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up, and struck the waters, which parted to the right and to the left, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground.
9AND IT WAS WHEN HAD PASSED OVER THEY AND ELIJAH HE SAID TO ELISHA ASK WHAT? WILL I DO FOR YOU <IN> BEFORE I WILL BE TAKEN FROM WITH <THE> YOU AND HE SAID ELISHA AND MAY IT BE PLEASE A MOUTH OF TWO IN SPIRIT YOUR TO ME 9After they had crossed over, Elijah said to Elisha, “Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken away from you?” “Please, let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,” Elisha replied.
10AND HE SAID YOU HAVE MADE DIFFICULT TO ASK IF YOU WILL SEE <OBJ.> ME TAKEN FROM WITH <THE> YOU MAY IT BE TO YOU THUS AND IF NOT NOT IT WILL BE 10“You have requested a difficult thing,” said Elijah. “Nevertheless, if you see me as I am taken from you, it will be yours. But if not, then it will not be so.”
11AND IT WAS THEY [WERE] WALKING CONTINUOUSLY <TO WALK> AND SPEAKING AND THERE! A CHARIOT OF FIRE AND HORSES OF FIRE AND THEY SEPARATED BETWEEN [THE] TWO OF THEM AND HE WENT UP ELIJAH IN THE WHIRLWIND THE HEAVENS 11As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire with horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up into heaven in a whirlwind.
12AND ELISHA [WAS] SEEING AND HE [WAS] CRYING OUT O FATHER MY FATHER MY [THE] CHARIOTRY OF ISRAEL AND HORSEMEN ITS AND NOT HE SAW HIM AGAIN AND HE TOOK HOLD ON CLOTHES HIS AND HE TORE THEM INTO TWO PIECES 12As Elisha watched, he cried out, “My father, my father, the chariots and horsemen of Israel!” And he saw Elijah no more. So taking hold of his own clothes, he tore them in two.
13AND HE TOOK UP <OBJ.> [THE] CLOAK OF ELIJAH WHICH IT HAD FALLEN FROM ON <THE> HIM AND HE WENT BACK AND HE STOOD ON [THE] BANK OF THE JORDAN 13Elisha also picked up the cloak that had fallen from Elijah, and he went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan.
14AND HE TOOK <OBJ.> [THE] CLOAK OF ELIJAH WHICH IT HAD FALLEN FROM ON <THE> HIM AND HE STRUCK <OBJ.> THE WATERS AND HE SAID WHERE? [IS] YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ELIJAH ALSO HE AND HE STRUCK <OBJ.> THE WATERS AND THEY WERE DIVIDED HITHER AND HITHER AND HE PASSED OVER ELISHA 14Then he took the cloak of Elijah that had fallen from him and struck the waters. “Where now is the LORD, the God of Elijah?” he asked. And when he had struck the waters they parted to the right and to the left, and Elisha crossed over.
15AND THEY SAW HIM [THE] SONS OF THE PROPHETS WHO [WERE] AT JERICHO FROM BEFORE AND THEY SAID IT HAS RESTED [THE] SPIRIT OF ELIJAH ON ELISHA AND THEY CAME TO MEET HIM AND THEY BOWED DOWN TO HIM [THE] GROUND TOWARDS Elisha Succeeds Elijah 15When the sons of the prophets who were watching him from Jericho saw what had happened, they said, “The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha.” And they went to meet him and bowed down to the ground before him.
16AND THEY SAID TO HIM HERE! PLEASE THERE WITH SERVANTS YOUR [ARE] FIFTY MEN SONS OF ABILITY LET THEM GO PLEASE SO THEY MAY SEARCH FOR <OBJ.> MASTER<S> YOUR LEST IT HAS CARRIED OFF HIM [THE] SPIRIT OF YAHWEH AND IT HAS CAST HIM ON ONE OF THE MOUNTAINS OR IN ONE OF THE VALLEYS AND HE SAID NOT YOU MUST SEND 16“Look now,” they said to Elisha, “we your servants have fifty valiant men. Please let them go and search for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the LORD has taken him up and put him on one of the mountains or in one of the valleys.” “Do not send them,” Elisha replied.
17AND THEY URGED <IN> HIM UNTIL WAS ASHAMED AND HE SAID SEND [THEM] AND THEY SENT OUT FIFTY MAN AND THEY SEARCHED THREE DAYS AND NOT THEY FOUND HIM 17But when they pressed him to the point of embarrassment, he said, “Send them.” And they sent fifty men, who searched for three days but did not find Elijah.
18AND THEY RETURNED TO HIM AND HE [WAS] REMAINING IN JERICHO AND HE SAID TO THEM ¿ NOT DID I SAY TO YOU MAY NOT YOU GO 18When they returned to Elisha, who was staying in Jericho, he said to them, “Didn’t I tell you not to go?”
19AND THEY SAID [THE] PEOPLE OF THE CITY TO ELISHA HERE! PLEASE [THE] LOCATION OF THE CITY [IS] GOOD JUST AS LORD MY [IS] SEEING AND THE WATERS [ARE] BAD AND THE LAND [IS] CAUSING ABORTIONS Elisha Heals the Waters of Jericho 19Then the men of the city said to Elisha, “Please note, our lord, that the city’s location is good, as you can see. But the water is bad and the land is unfruitful.”
20AND HE SAID FETCH FOR ME A JAR NEW AND PUT THERE SALT AND THEY TOOK [IT] TO HIM 20“Bring me a new bowl,” he replied, “and put some salt in it.” So they brought it to him,
21AND HE WENT OUT TO [THE] OUTLET OF THE WATERS AND HE THREW THERE SALT AND HE SAID THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH I HAVE HEALED <TO> THE WATERS <THE> THESE NOT IT WILL BE FROM THERE AGAIN DEATH AND ABORTION 21and Elisha went out to the spring, cast the salt into it, and said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘I have healed this water. No longer will it cause death or unfruitfulness.*NoteCloseOr barrenness ’”
22AND THEY HAVE BEEN HEALED THE WATERS UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS ACCORDING TO [THE] WORD OF ELISHA WHICH HE SPOKE 22And the waters there have been healthy to this day, according to the word spoken by Elisha.
23AND HE WENT UP FROM THERE BETH- -EL AND HE [WAS] GOING UP ON THE WAY AND LADS YOUNG THEY CAME OUT FROM THE CITY AND THEY DERIDED <IN> HIM AND THEY SAID TO HIM GO UP O BALD [MAN] GO UP O BALD [MAN] Elisha Mocked 23From there, Elisha went up to Bethel, and as he was walking up the road, a group of boys*NoteCloseOr some small youths or some insignificant young men; similarly in verse 24 came out of the city and jeered at him, chanting “Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!”
24AND HE TURNED BEHIND HIM AND HE SAW THEM AND HE CURSED THEM IN [THE] NAME OF YAHWEH AND THEY CAME OUT TWO [FEMALE] BEARS FROM THE FOREST AND THEY TORE IN PIECES OF THEM FORTY AND TWO BOYS 24Then he turned around, looked at them, and called down a curse on them in the name of the LORD. Suddenly two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the boys.
25AND HE WENT FROM THERE TO [THE] MOUNTAIN OF <THE> CARMEL AND FROM THERE HE RETURNED SAMARIA 25And Elisha went on to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.
