25AND HE WENT FROM THERE TO [THE] MOUNTAIN OF <THE> CARMEL AND FROM THERE HE RETURNED SAMARIA 25And Elisha went on to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria.
1AND JEHORAM [THE] SON OF AHAB HE BECAME KING OVER ISRAEL IN SAMARIA IN YEAR EIGHT- TEEN OF JEHOSHAPHAT [THE] KING OF JUDAH AND HE REIGNED TWO [PLUS] TEN YEAR[S] Moab’s Rebellion 1In the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat’s reign over Judah, Jehoram*NoteCloseJehoram is a variant spelling of Joram; also in verse 6. son of Ahab became king of Israel, and he reigned in Samaria twelve years.
2AND HE DID THE EVIL IN [THE] EYES OF YAHWEH ONLY NOT LIKE FATHER HIS AND LIKE MOTHER HIS AND HE REMOVED <OBJ.> [THE] SACRED PILLAR OF <THE> BAAL WHICH HE HAD MADE FATHER HIS 2And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, but not as his father and mother had done. He removed the sacred pillar of Baal that his father had made.
3ONLY TO [THE] SINS OF JEROBOAM [THE] SON OF NEBAT WHICH HE CAUSED TO SIN <OBJ.> ISRAEL HE CLUNG NOT HE TURNED ASIDE FROM IT 3Nevertheless, he clung to the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had caused Israel to commit; he did not turn away from them.
4AND MESHA [THE] KING OF MOAB HE WAS A SHEEP-BREEDER AND HE RETURNED TO [THE] KING OF ISRAEL ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND LAMBS AND ONE HUNDRED THOUSAND RAMS WOOL 4Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheep breeder,*NoteCloseOr sheepherder and he would render to the king of Israel a hundred thousand lambs and the wool of a hundred thousand rams.
5AND IT WAS WHEN DIED AHAB AND HE REBELLED [THE] KING OF MOAB AGAINST [THE] KING OF ISRAEL 5But after the death of Ahab, the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.
6AND HE WENT OUT THE KING JEHORAM ON THE DAY <THE> THAT FROM SAMARIA AND HE MUSTERED <OBJ.> ALL ISRAEL 6So at that time King Jehoram set out from Samaria and mobilized all Israel.
7AND HE WENT AND HE SENT TO JEHOSHAPHAT [THE] KING OF JUDAH <TO> SAYING [THE] KING OF MOAB HE HAS REBELLED AGAINST ME ¿ WILL YOU GO WITH ME AGAINST MOAB FOR <THE> BATTLE AND HE SAID I WILL GO UP AS ME AS YOU AS PEOPLE MY AS PEOPLE YOUR AS HORSES MY AS HORSES YOUR 7And he sent a message to Jehoshaphat king of Judah “The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?” “I will go,” replied Jehoshaphat. “I am as you are, my people are your people, and my horses are your horses.”
8AND HE SAID WHERE? THIS [IS] THE WAY [WHICH] WE WILL GO UP AND HE SAID [THE] WAY OF [THE] WILDERNESS OF EDOM 8Then he asked, “Which way shall we go up?” “By way of the Desert of Edom,” replied Joram.
9AND HE WENT [THE] KING OF ISRAEL AND [THE] KING OF JUDAH AND [THE] KING OF EDOM AND THEY WENT AROUND A JOURNEY OF SEVEN DAYS AND NOT IT BELONGED WATER TO THE ARMY AND TO THE ANIMAL[S] WHICH [WAS] AT FEET THEIR 9So the king of Israel, the king of Judah, and the king of Edom set out, and after they had traveled a roundabout route for seven days, they had no water for their army or for their animals.
10AND HE SAID [THE] KING OF ISRAEL ALAS! FOR HE HAS SUMMONED YAHWEH <TO> [THE] THREE THE KINGS <THE> THESE TO GIVE <OBJ.> THEM IN [THE] HAND OF MOAB 10“Alas,” said the king of Israel, “for the LORD has summoned these three kings to deliver them into the hand of Moab!”
11AND HE SAID JEHOSHAPHAT ¿ [IS] THERE NOT HERE A PROPHET OF YAHWEH AND LET US CONSULT <OBJ.> YAHWEH FROM <OBJ.> HIM AND HE ANSWERED ONE FROM [THE] SERVANTS OF [THE] KING OF ISRAEL AND HE SAID [IS] HERE ELISHA [THE] SON OF SHAPHAT WHO HE POURED WATER ON [THE] HANDS OF ELIJAH 11But Jehoshaphat asked, “Is there no prophet of the LORD here? Let us inquire of the LORD through him.” And one of the servants of the king of Israel answered, “Elisha son of Shaphat is here. He used to pour water on the hands of Elijah.*NoteCloseOr He was Elijah’s personal assistant ”
12AND HE SAID JEHOSHAPHAT THERE <OBJ.> HIM [IS] [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH AND THEY WENT DOWN TO HIM [THE] KING OF ISRAEL AND JEHOSHAPHAT AND [THE] KING OF EDOM 12Jehoshaphat affirmed, “The word of the LORD is with him.” So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.
13AND HE SAID ELISHA TO [THE] KING OF ISRAEL WHAT? [IS] TO ME AND TO <THE> YOU GO TO [THE] PROPHETS OF FATHER YOUR AND TO [THE] PROPHETS OF MOTHER YOUR AND HE SAID TO HIM [THE] KING OF ISRAEL MAY NOT [IT BE SO] FOR HE HAS SUMMONED YAHWEH <TO> [THE] THREE THE KINGS <THE> THESE TO GIVE <OBJ.> THEM IN [THE] HAND OF MOAB 13Elisha, however, said to the king of Israel, “What have we to do with each other? Go to the prophets of your father and of your mother!” “No,” replied the king of Israel, “for it is the LORD who has summoned these three kings to deliver them into the hand of Moab.”
14AND HE SAID ELISHA [BY] [THE] LIFE OF YAHWEH OF HOSTS WHOM I STAND <TO> BEFORE HIM FOR IF NOT [THE] FACE OF JEHOSHAPHAT [THE] KING OF JUDAH I [AM] LIFTING UP IF I WILL LOOK TO YOU AND IF I WILL SEE YOU 14Then Elisha said, “As surely as the LORD of Hosts lives, before whom I stand were it not for my regard for the presence of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, I would not look at you or acknowledge you.
15AND NOW FETCH FOR ME A MUSICIAN AND IT WAS WHEN PLAYED THE MUSICIAN AND IT WAS ON HIM [THE] HAND OF YAHWEH 15But now, bring me a harpist.*NoteCloseOr a musician; twice in this verse ” And while the harpist played, the hand of the LORD came upon Elisha
16AND HE SAID THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH MAKE THE WADI <THE> THIS DITCHES DITCHES 16and he said, “This is what the LORD says: ‘Dig this valley full of ditches.’
17FOR THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH NOT YOU WILL SEE WIND AND NOT YOU WILL SEE RAIN AND THE WADI <THE> THAT IT WILL BE FILLED WATER AND YOU WILL DRINK YOU AND LIVESTOCK YOUR AND ANIMAL[S] YOUR 17For the LORD says, ‘You will not see wind or rain, but the valley will be filled with water, and you will drink – you and your cattle and your animals.’
18AND IT WILL BE TRIFLING THIS IN [THE] EYES OF YAHWEH AND HE WILL GIVE <OBJ.> MOAB IN HAND YOUR 18This is a simple matter in the sight of the LORD, and He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand.
19AND YOU WILL STRIKE DOWN EVERY CITY OF FORTIFICATION AND EVERY CITY OF CHOICE AND EVERY TREE GOOD YOU WILL MAKE FALL AND ALL [THE] SPRINGS OF WATER YOU WILL STOP UP AND EVERY <THE> PORTION OF LAND <THE> GOOD YOU WILL SPOIL WITH <THE> STONES 19And you shall attack every fortified city and every city of importance. You shall cut down every good tree, stop up every spring, and ruin every good field with stones.”
20AND IT WAS IN THE MORNING WHEN WENT UP THE OFFERING AND THERE! WATERS [WERE] COMING FROM [THE] DIRECTION OF EDOM AND IT WAS FILLED THE LAND <OBJ.> THE WATERS 20The next morning, at the time of the morning sacrifice, water suddenly flowed from the direction of Edom and filled the land.
21AND ALL MOAB THEY HAD HEARD THAT THEY HAD COME UP THE KINGS TO FIGHT AGAINST THEM AND THEY WERE SUMMONED FROM EVERY [ONE WHO] GIRDS ON A BELT AND UP -WARDS AND THEY TOOK THEIR STAND AT THE BORDER 21Now all the Moabites had heard that the kings had come up to fight against them. So all who could bear arms, young and old, were summoned and stationed at the border.
22AND THEY ROSE EARLY IN THE MORNING AND THE SUN IT SHONE ON THE WATER AND THEY SAW MOAB FROM BEFORE <OBJ.> THE WATER RED LIKE <THE> BLOOD 22When they got up early in the morning, the sun was shining on the water, and it looked as red as blood to the Moabites across the way.
23AND THEY SAID [IS] BLOOD THIS CERTAINLY <TO FIGHT> THEY HAVE FOUGHT ONE ANOTHER THE KINGS AND THEY HAVE STRUCK DOWN EACH <OBJ.> NEIGHBOR HIS AND THEREFORE TO THE PLUNDER O MOAB 23“This is blood!” they exclaimed. “The kings have clashed swords and slaughtered one another. Now to the plunder, Moab!”
24AND THEY CAME TO [THE] CAMP OF ISRAEL AND THEY AROSE ISRAEL AND THEY STRUCK DOWN <OBJ.> MOAB AND THEY FLED FROM BEFORE THEM AND THEY STRUCK DOWN <IN> IT AND THEY STRUCK DOWN <OBJ.> MOAB 24But when the Moabites came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and attacked them, and they fled before them. So the Israelites invaded their land and struck down the Moabites.
25AND THE CITIES THEY TORE DOWN AND EVERY PORTION OF LAND GOOD THEY THREW EACH STONE HIS AND THEY FILLED IT AND EVERY SPRING OF WATER THEY STOPPED UP AND EVERY TREE GOOD THEY MADE FALL UNTIL HE LEFT BEHIND STONES ITS IN <THE> KIR HARESETH AND THEY SURROUNDED [IT] THE SLINGERS AND THEY STRUCK IT 25They destroyed the cities, and each man threw stones on every good field until it was covered. They stopped up every spring and cut down every good tree. Only Kir-haraseth was left with stones in place, but men with slings surrounded it and attacked it as well.
26AND HE SAW [THE] KING OF MOAB THAT IT WAS [TOO] STRONG FOR HIM THE BATTLE AND HE TOOK <OBJ.> HIM SEVEN HUNDRED<S> MAN [WHO] DREW A SWORD TO BREAK THROUGH TO [THE] KING OF EDOM AND NOT THEY WERE ABLE 26When the king of Moab saw that the battle was too fierce for him, he took with him seven hundred swordsmen to break through to the king of Edom, but they could not prevail.
27AND HE TOOK <OBJ.> SON HIS THE FIRSTBORN WHO HE WILL REIGN IN PLACE OF HIM AND HE OFFERED UP HIM A BURNT OFFERING ON THE WALL AND IT WAS WRATH GREAT TOWARDS ISRAEL AND THEY DEPARTED FROM ON <THE> HIM AND THEY RETURNED TO THE LAND 27So he took his firstborn son, who was to succeed him, and offered him as a burnt offering on the city wall. And there was great fury against the Israelites,*NoteCloseOr And Israel’s fury was great so they withdrew and returned to their own land.
