37AND HE CAME HUSHAI [THE] FRIEND OF DAVID THE CITY AND ABSALOM HE CAME JERUSALEM 37So David’s friend Hushai arrived in Jerusalem just as Absalom was entering the city.
1AND DAVID HE PASSED ON A LITTLE FROM THE TOP AND THERE! ZIBA [THE] SERVANT OF MEPHI- -BOSHETH TO MEET HIM AND A PAIR OF DONKEYS [WERE] SADDLED AND [WERE] ON THEM TWO HUNDRED BREAD[S] AND ONE HUNDRED BUNCHES OF RAISINS AND ONE HUNDRED SUMMER FRUIT AND A SKIN OF WINE David and Ziba 1When David had gone a little beyond the summit, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth was there to meet him. He had a pair of saddled donkeys loaded with two hundred loaves of bread, a hundred clusters of raisins, a hundred summer fruits, and a skin of wine.
2AND HE SAID THE KING TO ZIBA WHAT? [ARE] THESE [THINGS] TO <THE> YOU AND HE SAID ZIBA THE DONKEYS [ARE] FOR [THE] HOUSEHOLD OF THE KING TO RIDE AND THE BREAD AND THE SUMMER FRUIT [ARE] TO EAT THE YOUNG MEN AND THE WINE [IS] TO DRINK THE WEARY [PERSON] IN THE WILDERNESS 2“Why do you have these?” asked the king. Ziba replied “The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride, the bread and summer fruit are for the young men to eat, and the wine is to refresh those who become exhausted in the wilderness.”
3AND HE SAID THE KING AND WHERE? [IS] [THE] SON OF MASTER<S> YOUR AND HE SAID ZIBA TO THE KING THERE! And Ziba answered “Indeed, he is staying in Jerusalem, for he has said, ‘Today, the house of Israel will restore to me the kingdom of my grandfather.’”
4AND HE SAID THE KING TO ZIBA HERE! [BELONGS] TO <THE> YOU ALL THAT [BELONGED] TO MEPHI- -BOSHETH AND HE SAID ZIBA I BOW DOWN MAY I FIND FAVOR IN VIEW YOUR O LORD MY THE KING 4So the king said to Ziba, “All that belongs to Mephibosheth is now yours “I humbly bow before you,” said Ziba. “May I find favor in your eyes, my lord the king!”
5AND HE CAME THE KING DAVID TO BAHURIM AND THERE! FROM THERE A MAN [WAS] COMING OUT FROM [THE] CLAN OF [THE] HOUSE OF SAUL AND NAME HIS [WAS] SHIMEI [THE] SON OF GERA [HE WAS] COMING OUT CONTINUOUSLY <TO COME> AND CURSING Shimei Curses David 5As King David approached Bahurim, a man from the family of the house of Saul was just coming out. His name was Shimei son of Gera, and as he approached, he kept yelling out curses.
6AND HE STONED WITH <THE> STONES <OBJ.> DAVID AND <OBJ.> ALL [THE] SERVANTS OF THE KING DAVID AND ALL THE PEOPLE AND ALL THE WARRIORS [WERE] FROM RIGHT HIS AND FROM LEFT HIS 6He threw stones at David and at all the servants of the king, though the troops and all the mighty men were on David’s right and left.
7AND THUS HE SAID SHIMEI WHEN CURSED HE GET OUT GET OUT O MAN OF <THE> BLOOD<S> AND O MAN OF <THE> WORTHLESSNESS 7And as he yelled curses, Shimei said, “Get out, get out, you worthless man of bloodshed!
8HE HAS BROUGHT BACK ON YOU YAHWEH ALL [THE] BLOOD<S> OF [THE] HOUSE OF SAUL WHOM YOU HAVE REIGNED IN PLACE OF HIM AND HE HAS GIVEN YAHWEH <OBJ.> THE KINGSHIP IN [THE] HAND OF ABSALOM SON YOUR AND HERE YOU [ARE] IN CALAMITY YOUR FOR [ARE] A MAN OF BLOOD<S> YOU 8The LORD has paid you back for all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned, and the LORD has delivered the kingdom into the hand of your son Absalom. See, you have come to ruin because you are a man of bloodshed!”
9AND HE SAID ABISHAI [THE] SON OF ZERUIAH TO THE KING <TO> WHY? WILL HE CURSE THE DOG <THE> DEAD <THE> THIS <OBJ.> LORD MY THE KING LET ME PASS OVER PLEASE AND LET ME REMOVE <OBJ.> HEAD HIS 9Then Abishai son of Zeruiah said to the king, “Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? Let me go over and cut off his head
10AND HE SAID THE KING WHAT? [IS] TO ME AND TO <THE> YOU O SONS OF ZERUIAH THUS HE IS CURSING FOR YAHWEH HE HAS SAID TO <THE> HIM CURSE <OBJ.> DAVID AND WHO? WILL HE SAY WHY? HAVE YOU DONE THUS 10But the king replied, “What have I to do with you, O sons of Zeruiah? If he curses me because the LORD told him, ‘Curse David,’ who can ask, ‘Why did you do this?’”
11AND HE SAID DAVID TO ABISHAI AND TO ALL SERVANTS HIS HERE! SON MY WHO HE WENT OUT FROM INWARD PARTS MY [IS] SEEKING <OBJ.> LIFE MY AND INDEED? FOR NOW [THE] BEN- <THE> JAMINITE LEAVE ALONE <TO> <THE> HIM SO HE MAY CURSE FOR HE HAS SPOKEN TO <THE> HIM YAHWEH 11Then David said to Abishai and to all his servants, “Behold, my own son, my own flesh and blood, seeks my life. How much more, then, this Benjamite! Leave him alone and let him curse me, for the LORD has told him so.
12PERHAPS HE WILL LOOK YAHWEH ON SIN MY AND HE WILL REPAY YAHWEH TO <THE> ME GOOD IN PLACE OF CURSE HIS THE DAY <THE> THIS 12Perhaps the LORD will see my affliction and repay me with good for the cursing I receive today
13AND HE WENT DAVID AND MEN HIS ON THE ROAD AND SHIMEI [WAS] GOING ON [THE] SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN <TO> PARALLEL WITH HIM HE WENT AND HE CURSED AND HE STONED [THEM] WITH <THE> STONES <TO> PARALLEL WITH HIM AND HE DUSTED [THEM] WITH <THE> DUST 13So David and his men proceeded along the road as Shimei went along the ridge of the hill opposite him. As Shimei went, he yelled curses, threw stones, and flung dust at David.
14AND HE CAME THE KING AND ALL THE PEOPLE WHICH [WAS] WITH HIM EXHAUSTED AND HE REFRESHED HIMSELF THERE 14Finally, the king and all the people with him arrived,*NoteCloseSome LXX manuscripts arrived at the Jordan exhausted. And there he refreshed himself.
15AND ABSALOM AND ALL THE PEOPLE [THE] MAN OF ISRAEL THEY CAME JERUSALEM AND AHITHOPHEL [WAS] WITH HIM The Counsel of Ahithophel and Hushai 15Then Absalom and all the men of Israel came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel was with him.
16AND IT WAS JUST WHEN <HE> CAME HUSHAI THE ARKITE [THE] FRIEND OF DAVID TO ABSALOM AND HE SAID HUSHAI TO ABSALOM MAY HE LIVE THE KING MAY HE LIVE THE KING 16And David’s friend Hushai the Archite went to Absalom and said to him, “Long live the king! Long live the king!”
17AND HE SAID ABSALOM TO HUSHAI [IS] THIS LOYALTY YOUR WITH FRIEND YOUR <TO> WHY? NOT DID YOU GO WITH FRIEND YOUR 17“Is this the loyalty you show your friend?” Absalom replied. “Why did you not go with your friend?”
18AND HE SAID HUSHAI TO ABSALOM IN- DEED [THE ONE] WHOM HE HAS CHOSEN YAHWEH AND THE PEOPLE <THE> THIS AND EVERY <THE> MAN OF ISRAEL TO <THE> HIM I WILL BELONG AND WITH HIM I WILL REMAIN 18“Not at all,” Hushai answered. “For the one chosen by the LORD, by this people, and by all the men of Israel— his I will be, and with him I will remain.
19AND THE SECOND [THING] <TO> WHOM? I WILL I SERVE ¿ NOT <TO> BEFORE SON HIS JUST AS I SERVED <TO> BEFORE FATHER YOUR SO I WILL BE <TO> BEFORE YOU 19Furthermore, whom should I serve if not his son? As I served in your father’s presence, so also I will serve in yours.”
20AND HE SAID ABSALOM TO AHITHOPHEL GIVE FOR <THE> YOURSELVES COUNSEL WHAT? WILL WE DO 20Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, “Give me counsel. What should we do?”
21AND HE SAID AHITHOPHEL TO ABSALOM GO INTO [THE] CONCUBINES OF FATHER YOUR WHOM HE LEFT TO KEEP THE HOUSE AND IT WILL HEAR ALL ISRAEL THAT YOU HAVE MADE YOURSELF ODIOUS WITH FATHER YOUR AND THEY WILL BE STRONG [THE] HANDS OF ALL WHO [ARE] WITH YOU 21Ahithophel replied “Sleep with your father’s concubines, whom he has left to take care of the palace. When all Israel hears that you have become a stench to your father, then the hands of all who are with you will be strengthened.”
22AND THEY PITCHED FOR ABSALOM THE TENT ON THE ROOF AND HE WENT ABSALOM INTO [THE] CONCUBINES OF FATHER HIS TO [THE] EYES OF ALL ISRAEL 22So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and he slept with his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.
23AND [THE] COUNSEL OF AHITHOPHEL WHICH HE COUNSELED IN THE DAYS <THE> THOSE [WAS] JUST AS HE ENQUIRES - ANYONE BY [THE] WORD OF <THE> GOD [WAS] SO ALL [THE] COUNSEL OF AHITHOPHEL BOTH TO DAVID AS WELL AS TO ABSALOM 23Now in those days the advice of Ahithophel was like the consultation of the word of God. Such was the regard that both David and Absalom had for Ahithophel’s advice.
