48HE COMMANDED NOW THEM IN THE NAME OF JESUS CHRIST TO BE BAPTIZED OF THE LORD. THEN THEY ASKED HIM TO REMAIN DAYS SOME. 48So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked him to stay for a few days.
1HEARD NOW THE APOSTLES AND THE BROTHERS THOSE BEING IN <THE> JUDEA THAT ALSO THE GENTILES RECEIVED THE WORD <THE> OF GOD. Peter’s Report at Jerusalem 1The apostles and brothers throughout Judea soon heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God.
2AND WHEN ALSO WENT UP PETER TO JERUSALEM, WERE CONTENDING WITH HIM THOSE OF [THE] CIRCUMCISION 2So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers*NoteCloseLiterally those of the circumcision took issue with him
3SAYING THAT YOU ENTERED TO MEN UNCIRCUMCISION HAVING AND YOU ATE WITH THEM. 3and said “You visited uncircumcised men and ate with them. ”
4HAVING BEGUN NOW <THE> PETER HE WAS EXPLAINING [IT] TO THEM IN ORDER SAYING; 4But Peter began and explained to them the whole sequence of events:
5I MYSELF WAS IN [THE] CITY OF JOPPA PRAYING AND I SAW IN A TRANCE A VISION DESCENDING A VESSEL CERTAIN LIKE A SHEET GREAT BY FOUR CORNERS BEING LET DOWN OUT OF <THE> HEAVEN, AND IT CAME DOWN AS FAR AS ME; 5“I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision of something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came right down to me.
6ON IT HAVING LOOKED INTENTLY I WAS OBSERVING [IT] AND I SAW THE QUADRUPEDS OF THE EARTH AND THE WILD BEASTS AND THE CREEPING THINGS AND THE BIRDS OF THE AIR. 6I looked at it closely and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds of the air.
7I HEARD THEN ALSO A VOICE SAYING TO ME; HAVING RISEN UP PETER, DO KILL AND DO EAT. 7Then I heard a voice saying to me, ‘Get up, Peter, kill and eat. ’
8I SAID HOWEVER; IN NO WAY, LORD; FOR EVERY COMMON OR UNCLEAN NOTHING EVER HAS ENTERED INTO THE MOUTH OF MINE. 8‘No, Lord, ’ I said, ‘for nothing impure*NoteCloseLiterally common; similarly in verse 9 or unclean has ever entered my mouth. ’
9ANSWERED HOWEVER TO ME [THE] VOICE FOR A SECOND [TIME] OUT OF <THE> HEAVEN; WHAT <THE> GOD HAS CLEANSED, YOU YOURSELF NOT DO CALL UNHOLY. 9But the voice spoke from heaven a second time, Do not call anything impure that God has made clean. ’
10THIS NOW HAPPENED ON THREE TIMES, AND WAS DRAWN UP AGAIN ALL INTO <THE> HEAVEN. 10This happened three times, and everything was drawn back up into heaven.
11AND BEHOLD IMMEDIATELY THREE MEN STOOD AT THE HOUSE IN WHICH I WAS SENT FROM CAESAREA TO ME. 11Just then three men sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying.
12TOLD NOW THE SPIRIT TO ME TO GO WITH THEM NOT HAVING DISCRIMINATED. WENT NOW WITH ME MYSELF ALSO <THE> SIX BROTHERS THESE, AND WE ENTERED INTO THE HOUSE OF THE MAN. 12The Spirit told me to accompany them without hesitation. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man’s home.
13HE RELATED THEN TO US HOW HE HAD SEEN THE ANGEL IN THE HOUSE OF HIM HAVING STOOD AND HAVING SAID TO HIM: DO SEND FORTH TO JOPPA MEN AND DO YOURSELF SEND FOR SIMON WHO IS CALLED PETER, 13He told us how he had seen an angel standing in his house and saying, ‘Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter.
14WHO WILL SPEAK DECLARATIONS TO YOU IN WHICH WILL BE SAVED YOU YOURSELF AND ALL THE HOUSEHOLD OF YOU. 14He will convey to you a message by which you and all your household will be saved. ’
15IN THEN <THE> BEGINNING ME TO SPEAK FELL THE SPIRIT <THE> HOLY UPON THEM, EVEN AS ALSO UPON US IN [THE] BEGINNING. 15As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, just as He had fallen upon us at the beginning.
16I REMEMBERED THEN THE DECLARATION OF THE LORD, HOW HE WAS SAYING: JOHN INDEED BAPTIZED WITH WATER, YOU YOURSELVES HOWEVER WILL BE BAPTIZED WITH [THE] SPIRIT HOLY. 16Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’*NoteCloseOr ‘John baptized in water, but in a few days you will be baptized in the Holy Spirit.’ Acts 1:5
17IF THEN THE SAME GIFT HAS GIVEN TO THEM <THE> GOD AS ALSO TO US HAVING BELIEVED ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, I MYSELF NOW HOW WAS ABLE TO FORBID <THE> GOD? 17So if God gave them the same gift He gave us who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to hinder the work of God? ”
18HAVING HEARD THEN THESE THINGS THEY WERE SILENT AND GLORIFIED <THE> GOD SAYING; THEN INDEED INDEED ALSO TO THE GENTILES <THE> GOD <THE> REPENTANCE UNTO LIFE HAS GIVEN. 18When they heard this, they had no further objections, and they glorified God, saying, “So then, God has granted even the Gentiles repentance unto life. ”
19THOSE INDEED THEREFORE HAVING BEEN SCATTERED BY THE TRIBULATION <THE> HAVING TAKEN PLACE OVER STEPHEN PASSED THROUGH UNTIL PHOENICIA AND CYPRUS AND ANTIOCH TO NO ONE SPEAKING THE WORD ONLY EXCEPT SOLELY TO JEWS. The Church at Antioch 19Meanwhile those scattered by the persecution that began with Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch, speaking the message only to Jews.
20WERE HOWEVER SOME OF THEM MEN OF CYPRUS AND OF CYRENE, WHO HAVING COME INTO ANTIOCH WERE SPEAKING ALSO TO THE HELLENISTS EVANGELISING [ABOUT] THE LORD JESUS. 20But some of them, men from Cyprus and Cyrene, went to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks*NoteCloseOr the Hellenists as well, proclaiming the good news about the Lord Jesus.
21AND WAS [THE] HAND OF [THE] LORD WITH THEM, [A] GREAT THEN NUMBER WHICH HAVING BELIEVED TURNED TO THE LORD; 21The hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number of people believed and turned to the Lord.
22WAS HEARD NOW THE REPORT IN THE EARS OF THE CHURCH WHICH IS BEING IN JERUSALEM CONCERNING THEM AND THEY SENT FORTH BARNABAS TO GO AS FAR AS ANTIOCH; 22When news of this reached the ears of the church in Jerusalem, they sent Barnabas to Antioch.
23WHO HAVING COME AND HAVING SEEN THE GRACE WHICH [IS] <THE> OF GOD HE REJOICED AND HE WAS EXHORTING ALL <THE> WITH RESOLUTE PURPOSE <THE> OF HEART TO ABIDE IN THE LORD; 23When he arrived and saw the grace of God, he rejoiced and encouraged them all to abide in the Lord with all their hearts.
24FOR HE WAS A MAN GOOD AND FULL OF [THE] SPIRIT HOLY AND OF FAITH. AND WAS ADDED A CROWD LARGE TO THE LORD. 24Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and a great number of people were brought to the Lord.
25HE WENT FORTH THEN TO TARSUS <THE> BARNABAS TO SEEK SAUL, 25Then Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul,
26AND HAVING FOUND HIM HE BROUGHT HIM TO ANTIOCH. IT CAME TO PASS [THAT] NOW THEY ALSO A YEAR WHOLE GATHERING TOGETHER IN THE CHURCH AND TEACHING A CROWD LARGE, WERE CALLING THEN FIRST IN ANTIOCH THE DISCIPLES CHRISTIANS. 26and when he found him, he brought him back to Antioch. So for a full year they met together with the church and taught large numbers of people. The disciples were first called Christians at Antioch.
27IN THESE NOW <THE> DAYS CAME DOWN FROM JERUSALEM PROPHETS TO ANTIOCH; 27In those days some prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.
28HAVING RISEN UP NOW ONE OF THEM NAMED AGABUS HE SIGNIFIED THROUGH THE SPIRIT [THAT] A FAMINE GREAT TO ENSUE BEING OVER ALL THE WORLD — WHICH ALSO WAS IN [THE TIME OF] CLAUDIUS OF CAESAR. 28One of them named Agabus stood up and predicted through the Spirit that a great famine would sweep across the whole world.*NoteCloseOr the entire Roman world This happened under Claudius.)
29<THE> AND THE DISCIPLES EVEN AS WAS PROSPERED ANYONE, DETERMINED EACH OF THEM FOR MINISTRY TO SEND TO THE DWELLING IN <THE> JUDEA BROTHERS; 29So the disciples, each according to his ability, decided to send relief to the brothers living in Judea.
30WHICH ALSO THEY DID HAVING SENT [IT] TO THE ELDERS THROUGH [THE] HAND OF BARNABAS AND SAUL. 30This they did, sending their gifts to the elders with Barnabas and Saul.
