1HEAR <OBJ.> THE WORD <THE> THIS WHICH HE HAS SPOKEN YAHWEH ON YOU O PEOPLE OF ISRAEL ON ALL THE CLAN WHICH I BROUGHT UP FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT <TO> SAYING Witnesses against Israel 1Hear this word that the LORD has spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family that I brought up out of the land of Egypt:

3¿ DO THEY WALK TWO [PEOPLE] TOGETHER EXCEPT IF THEY HAVE MET BY APPOINTMENT 3Can two walk together without agreeing where to go?*NoteCloseOr without an appointment to meet
4¿ DOES IT ROAR A LION IN THE FOREST AND PREY NOT [BELONGS] TO IT ¿ DOES IT GIVE FORTH A YOUNG LION VOICE ITS FROM DEN ITS EXCEPT IF IT HAS CAUGHT [SOMETHING] 4Does a lion roar in the forest when he has no prey? Does a young lion growl in his den if he has caught nothing?
5¿ DOES IT FALL A BIRD ON <THE> BIRD-TRAP OF THE EARTH AND [IS] A SNARE THERE NOT FOR IT ¿ DOES IT GO UP A BIRD-TRAP FROM THE GROUND AND SURELY <CATCH> NOT IT CATCHES [SOMETHING] 5Does a bird land in a snare where no bait has been set? Does a trap spring from the ground when it has nothing to catch?
6<IF>? IS IT BLOWN A TRUMPET IN A CITY AND [THE] PEOPLE NOT THEY TREMBLE OR? IS IT CALAMITY IN A CITY AND YAHWEH NOT HE HAS DONE [IT] 6If a ram’s horn sounds in a city, do the people not tremble? If calamity comes to a city, has not the LORD caused it?
7FOR NOT HE DOES [THE] LORD YAHWEH ANYTHING THAT EXCEPT HE HAS REVEALED SECRET COUNSEL HIS TO SERVANTS HIS THE PROPHETS 7Surely the Lord GOD does nothing without revealing His plan to His servants the prophets.
8A LION IT HAS ROARED WHO? NOT WILL HE BE AFRAID [THE] LORD YAHWEH HE HAS SPOKEN WHO? NOT WILL HE PROPHESY 8The lion has roared— who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken— who will not prophesy?
9PROCLAIM TO [THE] FORTRESSES IN ASHDOD AND TO [THE] FORTRESSES IN [THE] LAND OF EGYPT AND SAY GATHER YOURSELVES ON [THE] MOUNTAINS OF SAMARIA AND SEE DISTURBANCES GREAT IN [THE] MIDST OF IT AND OPPRESSION<S> IN MIDST ITS 9Proclaim to the citadels of Ashdod and to the citadels of Egypt: “Assemble on the mountains of Samaria; see the great unrest in the city and the acts of oppression in her midst.”
10AND NOT THEY KNOW TO DO STRAIGHTFORWARDNESS [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH THOSE [WHO] STORE UP VIOLENCE AND DEVASTATION IN FORTRESSES THEIR 10“For they know not how to do right,” declares the LORD. “They store up violence and destruction in their citadels.”
11<TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH AN OPPONENT AND AROUND THE LAND AND HE WILL BRING DOWN FROM YOU STRENGTH YOUR AND THEY WILL BE PLUNDERED FORTRESSES YOUR 11Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: “An enemy*NoteCloseOr An adversary will surround the land; he will pull down your strongholds and plunder your citadels.”
12THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH JUST AS HE DELIVERS THE SHEPHERD FROM [THE] MOUTH OF <THE> LION TWO LEGS OR A PIECE OF AN EAR SO THEY WILL BE DELIVERED [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL WHO DWELL IN SAMARIA WITH A CORNER OF A BED AND WITH SILK OF A COUCH 12This is what the LORD says: “As the shepherd snatches from the mouth of the lion two legs or a piece of an ear, so the Israelites dwelling in Samaria will be rescued having just the corner of a bed or the cushion of a couch.*NoteCloseOr so will the Israelites be snatched away, those who sit in Samaria on the edge of their beds and in Damascus on their couches
13HEAR AND WARN <IN> [THE] HOUSE OF JACOB [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF <THE> HOSTS 13Hear and testify against the house of Jacob, declares the Lord GOD, the God of Hosts.
14THAT ON [THE] DAY VISIT I [THE] TRANSGRESSIONS OF ISRAEL ON IT AND I WILL VISIT [THEM] ON [THE] ALTARS OF BETH- -EL AND THEY WILL BE CUT OFF [THE] HORNS OF THE ALTAR AND THEY WILL FALL TO THE GROUND 14On the day I punish Israel for their transgressions I will visit destruction on the altars of Bethel; the horns of the altar will be cut off, and they will fall to the ground.
15AND I WILL STRIKE [THE] HOUSE OF THE WINTER TO [THE] HOUSE OF THE SUMMER AND THEY WILL PERISH [THE] HOUSES OF <THE> IVORY AND PEOPLE WILL SNATCH AWAY HOUSES GREAT [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH 15I will tear down the winter house along with the summer house; the houses of ivory will also perish, and the great houses will come to an end,” declares the LORD.
