17<TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH WIFE YOUR IN THE CITY SHE WILL BE A PROSTITUTE AND SONS YOUR AND DAUGHTERS YOUR BY THE SWORD THEY WILL FALL AND LAND YOUR WITH <THE> MEASURING-LINE IT WILL BE DIVIDED AND YOU ON GROUND UNCLEAN YOU WILL DIE AND ISRAEL CERTAINLY <GO INTO EXILE> IT WILL GO INTO EXILE FROM ON LAND ITS 17Therefore this is what the LORD says: ‘Your wife will become a prostitute in the city, and your sons and daughters will fall by the sword. Your land will be divided by a measuring line, and you yourself will die on pagan*NoteCloseHebrew unclean soil. And Israel will surely go into exile, away from their homeland.’”

2AND HE SAID WHAT? [ARE] YOU SEEING O AMOS AND I SAID A BASKET OF SUMMER FRUIT AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO ME IT HAS COME THE END TO PEOPLE MY ISRAEL NOT I WILL REPEAT AGAIN TO PASS BY <TO> IT 2“Amos, what do you see?” He asked. “A basket of summer fruit,” I replied. So the LORD said to me, “The end has come for My people Israel; I will no longer spare them.”
3AND THEY WILL WAIL SONGS OF [THE] TEMPLE ON THE DAY <THE> THAT [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH MANY THE CORPSE[S] IN EVERY PLACE SOMEONE WILL THROW HUSH! 3“In that day,” declares the Lord GOD, “the songs*NoteCloseOr the singing women of the temple*NoteCloseOr palace will turn to wailing. Many will be the corpses, strewn in silence everywhere
4HEAR THIS O THOSE [WHO] TRAMPLE ON [THE] NEEDY AND TO PUT AN END TO [THE] AFFLICTED [PEOPLE] OF [THE] LAND 4Hear this, you who trample the needy, who do away with the poor of the land,
5<TO> SAYING WHEN? WILL IT PASS THE NEW MOON SO WE MAY SELL GRAIN GRAIN AND THE SABBATH SO WE MAY OPEN GRAIN TO MAKE SMALL AN EPHAH AND TO MAKE GREAT A SHEKEL AND TO FALSIFY BALANCES OF DECEIT 5asking, “When will the New Moon be over, that we may sell grain? When will the Sabbath end, that we may market wheat? Let us reduce the ephah and increase the shekel;*NoteCloseOr Let us reduce the measure and increase the price let us cheat with dishonest scales.
6TO BUY FOR <THE> SILVER POOR [PEOPLE] AND [THE] NEEDY FOR SAKE OF A PAIR OF SANDALS AND REFUSE OF GRAIN WE WILL SELL GRAIN 6Let us buy the poor with silver and the needy for a pair of sandals, selling even the chaff with the wheat!”
7HE HAS SWORN YAHWEH BY [THE] PRIDE OF JACOB IF I WILL FORGET TO PERPETUITY ALL DEEDS THEIR 7The LORD has sworn by the Pride of Jacob: “I will never forget any of their deeds.
8¿ ON THIS NOT WILL IT TREMBLE THE LAND AND HE WILL MOURN EVERY [ONE WHO] DWELLS IN IT AND IT WILL RISE LIKE THE LIGHT ALL OF IT AND IT WILL BE TOSSED AND IT WILL SINK LIKE [THE] RIVER OF EGYPT 8Will not the land quake for this, and all its dwellers mourn? All of it will swell like the Nile; it will surge and then subside like the Nile in Egypt.
9AND IT WILL BE ON THE DAY <THE> THAT [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH AND I WILL CAUSE TO GO THE SUN AT <THE> NOON<S> AND I WILL MAKE DARK <TO> THE EARTH IN A DAY OF LIGHT 9And in that day, declares the Lord GOD, I will make the sun go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the daytime.
10AND I WILL TURN FEASTS YOUR INTO MOURNING AND ALL SONGS YOUR INTO LAMENTATION AND I WILL BRING UP ON ALL LOINS SACKCLOTH AND ON EVERY HEAD BALDNESS AND I WILL MAKE IT LIKE [THE] MOURNING OF AN ONLY [SON] AND END ITS [WILL BE] LIKE A DAY BITTER 10I will turn your feasts into mourning and all your songs into lamentation. I will cause everyone to wear sackcloth and every head to be shaved. I will make it like a time of mourning for an only son, and its outcome like a bitter day.
11HERE! DAYS [ARE] COMING [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH AND I WILL SEND A FAMINE IN THE LAND NOT A FAMINE FOR <THE> BREAD AND NOT A THIRST FOR <THE> WATER THAT EXCEPT FOR HEARING <OBJ.> [THE] WORDS OF YAHWEH 11Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord GOD, when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the LORD.
12AND PEOPLE WILL STAGGER FROM SEA TO SEA AND FROM [THE] NORTH AND TO [THE] EAST THEY WILL ROVE ABOUT TO SEEK <OBJ.> [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH AND NOT THEY WILL FIND [IT] 12People will stagger from sea to sea and roam from north to east, seeking the word of the LORD, but they will not find it.
13IN THE DAY <THE> THAT THEY WILL BECOME FAINT THE VIRGINS <THE> BEAUTIFUL AND THE YOUNG MEN BY <THE> THIRST 13In that day the lovely young women— the young men as well— will faint from thirst.
14THOSE [WHO] SWEAR BY [THE] GUILT OF SAMARIA AND THEY WILL SAY [BY] [THE] LIFE OF GODS YOUR O DAN AND [BY] [THE] LIFE OF [THE] WAY OF BEER SHEBA AND THEY WILL FALL AND NOT THEY WILL RISE AGAIN 14Those who swear by the guilt of Samaria and say, ‘As surely as your god lives, O Dan,’ or, ‘As surely as the way*NoteCloseOr the god of Beersheba lives’— they will fall, never to rise again.”
