14THOSE [WHO] SWEAR BY [THE] GUILT OF SAMARIA AND THEY WILL SAY [BY] [THE] LIFE OF GODS YOUR O DAN AND [BY] [THE] LIFE OF [THE] WAY OF BEER SHEBA AND THEY WILL FALL AND NOT THEY WILL RISE AGAIN 14Those who swear by the guilt of Samaria and say, ‘As surely as your god lives, O Dan,’ or, ‘As surely as the way*NoteCloseOr the god of Beersheba lives’— they will fall, never to rise again.”
1I SAW <OBJ.> [THE] LORD STANDING ON THE ALTAR AND HE SAID STRIKE THE CAPITAL SO THEY MAY SHAKE THE THRESHOLDS AND BREAK OFF THEM ON [THE] HEAD OF ALL OF THEM AND POSTERITY THEIR BY THE SWORD I WILL KILL NOT HE WILL FLEE OF THEM [ONE WHO] FLEES AND NOT HE WILL ESCAPE OF THEM AN ESCAPEE The Destruction of Israel 1I saw the Lord standing beside the altar, and He said: “Strike the tops of the pillars so that the thresholds shake. Topple them on the heads of all the people, and I will kill the rest with the sword. None of those who flee will get away; none of the fugitives will escape
2IF THEY WILL DIG IN SHEOL FROM THERE HAND MY IT WILL TAKE THEM AND IF THEY WILL GO UP THE HEAVENS FROM THERE I WILL BRING DOWN THEM 2Though they dig down to Sheol, from there My hand will take them; and though they climb up to heaven, from there I will pull them down.
3AND IF THEY WILL HIDE THEMSELVES ON [THE] TOP OF <THE> CARMEL FROM THERE I WILL SEARCH FOR [THEM] AND I WILL TAKE THEM AND IF THEY WILL HIDE THEMSELVES FROM BEFORE EYES MY AT [THE] BOTTOM OF THE SEA FROM THERE I WILL COMMAND <OBJ.> THE SNAKE AND IT WILL BITE THEM 3Though they hide themselves atop Carmel, there I will track them and seize them; and though they hide from Me at the bottom of the sea, there I will command the serpent*NoteCloseHebrew nachash; translated in most cases as snake to bite them.
4AND IF THEY WILL GO IN <THE> CAPTIVITY <TO> BEFORE ENEMIES THEIR FROM THERE I WILL COMMAND <OBJ.> THE SWORD AND IT WILL KILL THEM AND I WILL SET EYE MY ON THEM FOR EVIL AND NOT FOR GOOD 4Though they are driven by their enemies into captivity, there I will command the sword to slay them. I will fix My eyes upon them for harm and not for good.”
5AND [THE] LORD YAHWEH OF <THE> HOSTS WHO TOUCHES <IN> THE EARTH AND IT MELTED AND THEY MOURN ALL [THE] INHABITANTS IN IT AND IT RISES LIKE THE RIVER ALL OF IT AND IT SINKS LIKE [THE] RIVER OF EGYPT 5The Lord GOD of Hosts, He who touches the earth and it melts, and all its dwellers mourn— all the land rises like the Nile, then sinks like the river of Egypt—
6WHO BUILDS IN THE HEAVENS STAIRS HIS AND VAULT HIS ON [THE] EARTH HE HAS FOUNDS IT WHO SUMMONS <TO> [THE] WATERS OF THE SEA AND HE POURED OUT THEM ON [THE] SURFACE OF THE EARTH [IS] YAHWEH NAME HIS 6He builds His upper rooms in the heavens and founds His vault upon the earth. He summons the waters of the sea and pours them over the face of the earth. The LORD is His name.
7¿ NOT LIKE [THE] SONS OF [THE] CUSHITES [ARE] YOU TO ME O PEOPLE OF ISRAEL [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH ¿ NOT <OBJ.> ISRAEL DID I BRING UP FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT AND [THE] PHILISTINES FROM CAPHTOR AND ARAM FROM KIR 7“Are you not like the Cushites*NoteCloseThat is, people from the upper Nile region to Me, O children of Israel?” declares the LORD. “Did I not bring Israel up from the land of Egypt, the Philistines from Caphtor,*NoteCloseThat is, Crete and the Arameans from Kir?
8HERE! [THE] EYES OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH [ARE] ON THE KINGDOM <THE> SINFUL AND I WILL DESTROY <OBJ.> IT FROM ON [THE] SURFACE OF THE GROUND NEVERTHELESS FOR NOT CERTAINLY <TO BE DESTROYING> I WILL DESTROY <OBJ.> [THE] HOUSE OF JACOB [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH 8Surely the eyes of the Lord GOD are on the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from the face of the earth Yet I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,” declares the LORD.
9THAT HERE! I [AM] ABOUT TO COMMAND AND I WILL SHAKE AMONG ALL THE NATIONS <OBJ.> [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL JUST AS IT IS SHAKEN IN <THE> SIEVE AND NOT IT WILL FALL A PEBBLE [THE] GROUND 9“For surely I will give the command, and I will shake the house of Israel among all the nations as grain is sifted in a sieve; but not a pebble will reach the ground.
10BY THE SWORD THEY WILL DIE ALL [THE] SINNERS OF PEOPLE MY WHO SAY NOT IT WILL BRING NEAR AND IT MAY MEET THROUGH US THE CALAMITY 10All the sinners among My people will die by the sword— all those who say, ‘Disaster will never draw near or confront us.’”
11ON THE DAY <THE> THAT I WILL RAISE UP <OBJ.> [THE] BOOTH OF DAVID <THE> FALLING AND I WILL WALL UP <OBJ.> BREACHES THEIR AND RUINS HIS I WILL RAISE UP AND I WILL REBUILD IT LIKE [THE] DAYS OF ANTIQUITY A Promise of Restoration (Acts 15:5–21) 11“In that day I will restore the fallen tent of David. I will repair its gaps, restore its ruins, and rebuild it as in the days of old,
12SO THAT THEY MAY DISPOSSESS <OBJ.> [THE] REMNANT OF EDOM AND ALL THE NATIONS WHICH IT IS CALLED NAME MY ON THEM [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH [WHO IS] ABOUT TO DO THIS 12that they may possess the remnant of Edom and all the nations that bear My name,”*NoteCloseHebrew; LXX that the remnant of men, and all the nations that bear My name, may earnestly seek Me; cited in Acts 15:16–18 declares the LORD, who will do this.
13HERE! DAYS [ARE] COMING [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH AND HE WILL APPROACH [THE] PLOWMAN <IN> THE REAPER AND [THE] TREADER OF GRAPES <IN> [THE] SOWER OF THE SEED AND THEY WILL DRIP THE MOUNTAINS SWEET WINE AND ALL THE HILLS THEY WILL FLOW WITH [IT] 13“Behold, the days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when the plowman will overtake the reaper and the treader of grapes, the sower of seed. The mountains will drip with sweet wine, with which all the hills will flow.
14AND I WILL TURN BACK <OBJ.> [THE] CAPTIVITY OF PEOPLE MY ISRAEL AND THEY WILL REBUILD CITIES DESOLATED AND THEY WILL DWELL [IN THEM] AND THEY WILL PLANT VINEYARDS AND THEY WILL DRINK <OBJ.> WINE THEIR AND THEY WILL MAKE GARDENS AND THEY WILL EAT <OBJ.> FRUIT THEIR 14I will restore My people Israel from captivity;*NoteCloseOr restore the fortunes of My people Israel they will rebuild and inhabit the ruined cities. They will plant vineyards and drink their wine; they will make gardens and eat their fruit.
15AND I WILL PLANT THEM ON OWN LAND THEIR AND NOT THEY WILL BE PLUCKED UP AGAIN FROM ON LAND THEIR WHICH I HAVE GIVEN TO THEM HE SAYS YAHWEH GOD YOUR 15I will firmly plant them in their own land, never again to be uprooted from the land that I have given them,” says the LORD your God.
