35AND IT WAS STRONG [THE] HEART OF PHARAOH AND NOT HE LET GO <OBJ.> [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL JUST AS HE HAD SAID YAHWEH BY [THE] HAND OF MOSES 35So Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he would not let the Israelites go, just as the LORD had said through Moses.
1AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO MOSES GO TO PHARAOH FOR I I HAVE MADE HEAVY <OBJ.> HEART HIS AND <OBJ.> [THE] HEART OF SERVANTS HIS SO AS TO PERFORM I SIGNS MY THESE IN MIDST HIS The Eighth Plague: Locusts 1Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to Pharaoh, for I have hardened*NoteCloseOr made heavy his heart and the hearts of his officials, that I may perform these miraculous signs of Mine among them,
2AND SO THAT YOU MAY RECOUNT IN [THE] EARS OF SON YOUR AND [THE] SON OF SON YOUR <OBJ.> HOW I HAVE DEALT RUTHLESSLY WITH EGYPT AND <OBJ.> SIGNS MY WHICH I PERFORMED AMONG <THE> THEM AND YOU WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH 2and that you may tell your children and grandchildren how severely I dealt with the Egyptians when I performed miraculous signs among them, so that all of you may know that I am the LORD.”
3AND HE WENT MOSES AND AARON TO PHARAOH AND THEY SAID TO HIM THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF THE HEBREWS UNTIL WHEN? HAVE YOU REFUSED TO HUMBLE YOURSELF FROM BEFORE ME LET GO PEOPLE MY SO THEY MAY SERVE ME 3So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and told him, “This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me? Let My people go, so that they may worship Me.
4THAT EXCEPT [ARE] REFUSING YOU TO LET GO <OBJ.> PEOPLE MY HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO BRING TOMORROW LOCUST[S] IN TERRITORY YOUR 4But if you refuse to let My people go, I will bring locusts into your territory tomorrow.
5AND IT WILL COVER <OBJ.> [THE] EYE OF THE LAND AND NOT ANYONE WILL BE ABLE TO SEE <OBJ.> THE GROUND AND IT WILL EAT <OBJ.> [THE] REMAINDER OF THE ESCAPED THING WHICH REMAINS TO <THE> YOU FROM THE HAIL AND IT WILL EAT <OBJ.> EVERY <THE> TREE THAT IS SPROUTING FOR <THE> YOU FROM THE FIELD 5They will cover the face of the land so that no one can see it. They will devour whatever is left after the hail and eat every tree that grows in your fields.
6AND THEY WILL BE FULL HOUSES YOUR AND [THE] HOUSES OF ALL SERVANTS YOUR AND [THE] HOUSES OF ALL EGYPT WHICH NOT THEY SAW ANCESTORS YOUR AND [THE] ANCESTORS OF ANCESTORS YOUR FROM [THE] DAY WERE THEY ON THE LAND UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS AND HE TURNED AND HE WENT OUT FROM WITH PHARAOH 6They will fill your houses and the houses of all your officials and every Egyptian— something neither your fathers nor your grandfathers have seen since the day they came into this land Then Moses turned and left Pharaoh’s presence.
7AND THEY SAID [THE] SERVANTS OF PHARAOH TO HIM UNTIL WHEN? WILL HE BECOME THIS [MAN] FOR <THE> US <INTO> A SNARE LET GO <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE SO THEY MAY SERVE <OBJ.> YAHWEH GOD THEIR ¿ NOT YET DO YOU KNOW THAT IT WILL PERISH EGYPT 7Pharaoh’s officials asked him, “How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the people go, so that they may worship the LORD their God. Do you not yet realize that Egypt lies in ruins?”
8AND HE WAS BROUGHT BACK <OBJ.> MOSES AND <OBJ.> AARON TO PHARAOH AND HE SAID TO THEM GO SERVE <OBJ.> YAHWEH GOD YOUR WHO? AND WHO? [ARE] THE [ONES] GOING 8So Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. “Go, worship the LORD your God,” he said. “But who exactly will be going?”
9AND HE SAID MOSES WITH YOUNG MEN OUR AND WITH OLD [MEN] OUR WE WILL GO WITH SONS OUR AND WITH DAUGHTERS OUR WITH FLOCK[S] OUR AND WITH HERDS OUR WE WILL GO FOR <THE> FESTIVAL OF YAHWEH [WILL BELONG] TO <THE> US 9“We will go with our young and old,” Moses replied. “We will go with our sons and daughters, and with our flocks and herds, for we must hold a feast to the LORD
10AND HE SAID TO THEM MAY HE BE THUS YAHWEH WITH YOU JUST AS I WILL LET GO <OBJ.> YOU AND <OBJ.> LITTLE ONE[S] YOUR SEE THAT EVIL [IS] BEFORE FACES YOUR 10Then Pharaoh told them, “May the LORD be with you if I ever let you go with your little ones. Clearly you are bent on evil.
11NOT SO GO PLEASE THE MEN AND SERVE <OBJ.> YAHWEH FOR <OBJ.> IT YOU [ARE] REQUESTING AND SOMEONE DROVE OUT <OBJ.> THEM FROM WITH [THE] FACE OF PHARAOH 11No, only the men may go and worship the LORD, since that is what you have been requesting.” And Moses and Aaron were driven from Pharaoh’s presence.
12AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO MOSES STRETCH OUT HAND YOUR OVER [THE] LAND OF EGYPT FOR THE LOCUST[S] SO MAY IT COME UP ON [THE] LAND OF EGYPT SO IT MAY EAT <OBJ.> ALL [THE] VEGETATION OF THE LAND <OBJ.> ALL THAT IT LEFT OVER THE HAIL 12Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt, so that the locusts may swarm over it and devour every plant in the land— everything that the hail has left behind.”
13AND HE STRETCHED OUT MOSES <OBJ.> STAFF HIS OVER [THE] LAND OF EGYPT AND YAHWEH HE DROVE A WIND OF [THE] EAST IN THE LAND ALL THE DAY <THE> THAT AND ALL THE NIGHT THE MORNING IT WAS AND [THE] WIND OF THE EAST IT CARRIED <OBJ.> THE LOCUST[S] 13So Moses stretched out his staff over the land of Egypt, and throughout that day and night the LORD sent an east wind across the land. By morning the east wind had brought the locusts.
14AND IT CAME UP THE LOCUST[S] ON ALL [THE] LAND OF EGYPT AND IT SETTLED DOWN IN ALL [THE] TERRITORY OF EGYPT HEAVY VERY <TO> BEFORE IT NOT IT HAD BEEN THUS LOCUST[S] LIKE IT AND AFTER IT NOT IT WILL BE THUS 14The locusts swarmed across the land and settled over the entire territory of Egypt. Never before had there been so many locusts, and never again will there be.
15AND IT COVERED <OBJ.> [THE] EYE OF ALL THE LAND AND IT GREW DARK THE LAND AND IT ATE <OBJ.> ALL [THE] VEGETATION OF THE LAND AND <OBJ.> ALL [THE] FRUIT OF THE TREE[S] WHICH IT HAD LEFT OVER THE HAIL AND NOT IT WAS LEFT BEHIND ANY GREENERY ON THE TREE[S] AND ON [THE] VEGETATION OF THE FIELD IN ALL [THE] LAND OF EGYPT 15They covered the face of all the land until it was black, and they consumed all the plants on the ground and all the fruit on the trees that the hail had left behind. Nothing green was left on any tree or plant in all the land of Egypt.
16AND HE HURRIED PHARAOH TO SUMMON <TO> MOSES AND <TO> AARON AND HE SAID I HAVE SINNED TO YAHWEH GOD YOUR AND TO <THE> YOU 16Pharaoh quickly summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned against the LORD your God and against you.
17AND THEREFORE FORGIVE PLEASE SIN MY ONLY THIS TIME AND PRAY TO YAHWEH GOD YOUR SO MAY HE REMOVE FROM ON <THE> ME ONLY <OBJ.> THE DEATH <THE> THIS 17Now please forgive my sin once more and appeal to the LORD your God, that He may remove this death from me.”
18AND HE WENT OUT FROM WITH PHARAOH AND HE PRAYED TO YAHWEH 18So Moses left Pharaoh’s presence and appealed to the LORD.
19AND HE TURNED YAHWEH A WIND WEST STRONG VERY AND IT CARRIED AWAY <OBJ.> THE LOCUST[S] AND IT BLEW IT [THE] SEA OF TOWARDS REED[S] NOT IT REMAINED A LOCUST ONE IN ALL [THE] TERRITORY OF EGYPT 19And the LORD changed the wind to a very strong west wind that carried off the locusts and blew them into the Red Sea.*NoteCloseOr the Sea of Reeds Not a single locust remained anywhere in Egypt.
20AND HE MADE STRONG YAHWEH <OBJ.> [THE] HEART OF PHARAOH AND NOT HE LET GO <OBJ.> [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL 20But the LORD hardened*NoteCloseOr stiffened or strengthened; also in verse 27 Pharaoh’s heart, and he would not let the Israelites go.
21AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO MOSES STRETCH OUT HAND YOUR TO THE HEAVENS SO MAY IT BE DARKNESS OVER [THE] LAND OF EGYPT SO THEY MAY FEEL DARKNESS The Ninth Plague: Darkness 21Then the LORD said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand toward heaven, so that darkness may spread over the land of Egypt— a palpable darkness.”
22AND HE STRETCHED OUT MOSES <OBJ.> HAND HIS TO THE HEAVENS AND IT WAS DARKNESS OF DARKNESS IN ALL [THE] LAND OF EGYPT THREE DAYS 22So Moses stretched out his hand toward heaven, and total darkness covered all the land of Egypt for three days.
23NOT THEY SAW EACH <OBJ.> BROTHER HIS AND NOT THEY ROSE ANYONE FROM UNDER HIM THREE DAYS AND TO ALL [THE] PEOPLE ISRAEL IT BE[LONGED] LIGHT IN DWELLING PLACES THEIR 23No one could see anyone else, and for three days no one left his place. Yet all the Israelites had light in their dwellings.
24AND HE SUMMONED PHARAOH <TO> MOSES AND HE SAID GO SERVE <OBJ.> YAHWEH ONLY FLOCK[S] YOUR AND HERD[S] YOUR IT WILL BE DETAINED ALSO LITTLE ONE[S] YOUR IT WILL GO WITH YOU 24Then Pharaoh summoned Moses and said, “Go, worship the LORD. Even your little ones may go with you; only your flocks and herds must stay behind.”
25AND HE SAID MOSES ALSO YOU YOU WILL GIVE IN HAND OUR SACRIFICES AND BURNT OFFERINGS AND WE WILL OFFER [THEM] TO YAHWEH GOD OUR 25But Moses replied, “You must also provide us with sacrifices and burnt offerings to present to the LORD our God.
26AND ALSO LIVESTOCK OUR IT WILL GO WITH US NOT IT WILL REMAIN A HOOF FOR SOME OF IT WE WILL TAKE TO SERVE <OBJ.> YAHWEH GOD OUR AND WE NOT WE WILL KNOW WHAT? WILL WE SERVE <OBJ.> YAHWEH UNTIL GO WE THERE <TOWARDS> 26Even our livestock must go with us; not a hoof will be left behind, for we will need some of them to worship the LORD our God, and we will not know how we are to worship the LORD until we arrive
27AND HE MADE STRONG YAHWEH <OBJ.> [THE] HEART OF PHARAOH AND NOT HE WAS WILLING TO LET GO THEM 27But the LORD hardened Pharaoh’s heart, and he was unwilling to let them go.
28AND HE SAID TO <THE> HIM PHARAOH GO FROM WITH <THE> ME TAKE HEED TO <THE> YOURSELF TO MAY YOU REPEAT TO SEE FACE MY FOR ON [THE] DAY SEEING YOU FACE MY YOU WILL DIE 28“Depart from me!” Pharaoh said to Moses. “Make sure you never see my face again, for on the day you see my face, you will die.”
29AND HE SAID MOSES RIGHT YOU HAVE SPOKEN NOT I WILL REPEAT AGAIN TO SEE FACE YOUR 29“As you say,” Moses replied, “I will never see your face again
