27AND HE SENT OFF MOSES <OBJ.> FATHER-IN-LAW HIS AND HE WENT <FOR> HIMSELF TO LAND HIS 27Then Moses sent his father-in-law on his way, and Jethro returned to his own land.
1IN THE MONTH <THE> THIRD OF [THE] GOING OUT OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT ON THE DAY <THE> THIS THEY CAME [THE] WILDERNESS OF SINAI Israel at Mount Sinai 1In the third month, on the same day of the month*NoteCloseHebrew In the third month, on the same day; that is, two months after leaving Egypt; see Numbers 33:3. that the Israelites had left the land of Egypt, they came to the Wilderness of Sinai.
2AND THEY SET OUT FROM REPHIDIM AND THEY CAME [THE] WILDERNESS OF SINAI AND THEY ENCAMPED IN THE WILDERNESS AND IT ENCAMPED THERE ISRAEL BEFORE THE MOUNTAIN 2After they had set out from Rephidim, they entered the Wilderness of Sinai, and Israel camped there in front of the mountain.
3AND MOSES HE WENT UP TO <THE> GOD AND HE CALLED TO HIM YAHWEH FROM THE MOUNTAIN <TO> SAYING THUS YOU WILL SAY TO [THE] HOUSE OF JACOB SO YOU MAY TELL TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL 3Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain, “This is what you are to tell the house of Jacob and explain to the sons of Israel:
4YOU YOU HAVE SEEN [THAT] WHICH I DID TO EGYPT AND I CARRIED <OBJ.> YOU ON WINGS OF EAGLES AND I BROUGHT <OBJ.> YOU TO MYSELF 4‘You have seen for yourselves what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.
5AND THEREFORE <IF> CERTAINLY [IF] <TO LISTEN> YOU WILL LISTEN TO VOICE MY AND YOU WILL KEEP <OBJ.> COVENANT MY AND YOU WILL BE OF ME A POSSESSION FROM ALL THE PEOPLES FOR [BELONGS] TO <THE> ME ALL THE EARTH 5Now if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, you will be My treasured possession out of all the nations— for the whole earth is Mine.
6AND YOU YOU WILL BE FOR <THE> ME A KINGDOM OF PRIESTS AND A NATION HOLY THESE [ARE] THE WORDS WHICH YOU WILL SPEAK TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL 6And unto Me you shall be a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ These are the words that you are to speak to the Israelites
7AND HE WENT MOSES AND HE SUMMONED <TO> [THE] ELDERS OF THE PEOPLE AND HE SET <TO> BEFORE THEM <OBJ.> ALL THE WORDS <THE> THESE WHICH HE HAD COMMANDED HIM YAHWEH 7So Moses went back and summoned the elders of the people and set before them all these words that the LORD had commanded him.
8AND THEY ANSWERED ALL THE PEOPLE TOGETHER AND THEY SAID ALL THAT HE HAS SPOKEN YAHWEH WE WILL DO AND HE BROUGHT BACK MOSES <OBJ.> [THE] WORDS OF THE PEOPLE TO YAHWEH 8And all the people answered together, “We will do everything that the LORD has spoken.” So Moses brought their words back to the LORD.
9AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO MOSES HERE! I [AM] ABOUT TO COME TO YOU IN [THE] DARK CLOUD OF THE CLOUD IN ORDER THAT <IT> MAY HEAR THE PEOPLE WHEN SPEAK I WITH YOU AND ALSO IN <THE> YOU THEY WILL TRUST FOR EVER AND HE TOLD MOSES <OBJ.> [THE] WORDS OF THE PEOPLE TO YAHWEH 9The LORD said to Moses, “Behold, I will come to you in a dense cloud, so that the people will hear when I speak with you, and they will always put their trust in you.” And Moses relayed to the LORD what the people had said.
10AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO MOSES GO TO THE PEOPLE AND YOU WILL CONSECRATE THEM THIS DAY AND TOMORROW AND THEY WILL WASH CLOTHES THEIR 10Then the LORD said to Moses, “Go to the people and consecrate them today and tomorrow. They must wash their clothes
11AND THEY WILL BE PREPARED FOR THE DAY <THE> THIRD FOR ON THE DAY <THE> THIRD HE WILL COME DOWN YAHWEH TO [THE] EYES OF ALL THE PEOPLE ON [THE] MOUNTAIN OF SINAI 11and be prepared by the third day, for on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people.
12AND YOU WILL SET A BOUNDARY FOR <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE ALL AROUND <TO> SAYING TAKE HEED TO <THE> YOURSELVES TO GO UP ON THE MOUNTAIN AND TO TOUCH <IN> EDGE ITS EVERY <THE> [ONE WHO] TOUCHES <IN> THE MOUNTAIN CERTAINLY <TO DIE> HE WILL BE PUT TO DEATH 12And you are to set up a boundary for the people around the mountain and tell them, ‘Be careful not to go up on the mountain or touch its base. Whoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death.
13NOT IT WILL TOUCH <IN> <THE> HIM A HAND FOR CERTAINLY <TO STONE> HE WILL BE STONED TO DEATH OR CERTAINLY <TO SHOT> HE WILL BE SHOT WHETHER AN ANIMAL OR A HUMAN NOT IT WILL LIVE WHEN SOUNDS THE RAM'S HORN THEY THEY WILL GO UP ON THE MOUNTAIN 13No hand shall touch him, but he shall surely be stoned or shot with arrows— whether man or beast, he must not live.’*NoteCloseCited in Hebrews 12:20 Only when the ram’s horn sounds a long blast may they approach the mountain.*NoteCloseOr may they go up on the mountain ”
14AND HE WENT DOWN MOSES FROM THE MOUNTAIN TO THE PEOPLE AND HE CONSECRATED <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE AND THEY WASHED CLOTHES THEIR 14When Moses came down from the mountain to the people, he consecrated them and they washed their clothes.
15AND HE SAID TO THE PEOPLE BE PREPARED TO THREE DAYS MAY NOT YOU DRAW NEAR TO A WOMAN 15“Be prepared for the third day,” he said to the people. “Do not draw near to a woman.”
16AND IT WAS ON THE DAY <THE> THIRD WHEN CAME THE MORNING AND IT WAS THUNDER CLAPS AND LIGHTNING<S> AND A CLOUD HEAVY ON THE MOUNTAIN AND [THE] SOUND OF A RAM'S HORN STRONG VERY AND IT TREMBLED ALL THE PEOPLE WHICH [WAS] IN THE CAMP The LORD Visits Sinai 16On the third day, when morning came, there was thunder and lightning. A thick cloud was upon the mountain, and a very loud blast of the ram’s horn went out, so that all the people in the camp trembled.
17AND HE LED OUT MOSES <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE TO MEET <THE> GOD FROM THE CAMP AND THEY STOOD AT [THE] LOWER PART OF THE MOUNTAIN 17Then Moses brought the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the foot of the mountain.
18AND [THE] MOUNTAIN OF SINAI IT WAS SMOKING ALL OF IT <FROM> BECAUSE THAT HE HAD COME DOWN ON IT YAHWEH IN <THE> FIRE AND IT WENT UP SMOKE ITS LIKE [THE] SMOKE OF <THE> FURNACE AND IT TREMBLED ALL THE MOUNTAIN EXCEEDINGLY 18Mount Sinai was completely enveloped in smoke, because the LORD had descended on it in fire. And the smoke rose like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently.
19AND IT WAS [THE] SOUND OF THE RAM'S HORN GOING AND STRONG VERY MOSES HE SPOKE AND <THE> GOD HE ANSWERED HIM WITH A VOICE 19And as the sound of the ram’s horn grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him in the thunder.
20AND HE CAME DOWN YAHWEH ON [THE] MOUNTAIN OF SINAI TO [THE] TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN AND HE SUMMONED YAHWEH <TO> MOSES TO [THE] TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN AND HE WENT UP MOSES 20The LORD descended to the top of Mount Sinai and called Moses to the summit. So Moses went up,
21AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO MOSES GO DOWN WARN <IN> THE PEOPLE LEST THEY SHOULD BREAK THROUGH TO YAHWEH TO SEE AND IT WILL FALL OF IT MANY 21and the LORD said to him, “Go down and warn the people not to break through to see the LORD, lest many of them perish.
22AND ALSO THE PRIESTS WHO DRAW NEAR TO YAHWEH THEY WILL MAKE THEMSELVES HOLY LEST HE SHOULD BREAK OUT AGAINST <THE> THEM YAHWEH 22Even the priests who approach the LORD must consecrate themselves, or the LORD will break out against them.”
23AND HE SAID MOSES TO YAHWEH NOT IT IS ABLE THE PEOPLE TO GO UP TO [THE] MOUNTAIN OF SINAI FOR YOU YOU WARNED <IN> <THE> US <TO> SAYING SET A BOUNDARY FOR <OBJ.> THE MOUNTAIN AND YOU WILL CONSECRATE IT 23But Moses said to the LORD, “The people cannot come up Mount Sinai, for You solemnly warned us, ‘Put a boundary around the mountain and set it apart as holy.’”
24AND HE SAID TO HIM YAHWEH GO GO DOWN AND YOU WILL COME UP YOU AND AARON WITH YOU AND THE PRIESTS AND THE PEOPLE MAY NOT THEY BREAK THROUGH TO COME UP TO YAHWEH LEST HE SHOULD BREAK OUT AGAINST <THE> THEM 24And the LORD replied “Go down and bring Aaron with you. But the priests and the people must not break through to come up to the LORD, or He will break out against them.”
25AND HE WENT DOWN MOSES TO THE PEOPLE AND HE SPOKE TO THEM 25So Moses went down to the people and spoke to them.
