35AND HE STRUCK YAHWEH <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE ON THAT THEY HAD MADE <OBJ.> THE CALF WHICH HE HAD MADE AARON 35And the LORD sent a plague on the people because of what they had done with the calf that Aaron had made.
1AND HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO MOSES GO GO UP FROM HERE YOU AND THE PEOPLE WHICH YOU HAVE BROUGHT UP FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT TO THE LAND WHICH I SWORE TO ABRAHAM TO ISAAC AND TO JACOB <TO> SAYING TO OFFSPRING YOUR I WILL GIVE IT The Command to Leave Sinai (Deuteronomy 1:1–8) 1Then the LORD said to Moses, “Leave this place, you and the people you brought up out of the land of Egypt, and go to the land that I promised to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob when I said, ‘I will give it to your descendants.’
2AND I WILL SEND <TO> BEFORE YOU AN ANGEL AND I WILL DRIVE OUT <OBJ.> THE CANAANITE[S] THE AMORITE[S] AND THE HITTITE[S] AND THE PERIZZITE[S] THE HIVITE[S] AND THE JEBUSITE[S] 2And I will send an angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanites, Amorites, Hittites, Perizzites, Hivites, and Jebusites.
3TO A LAND FLOWING OF MILK AND HONEY FOR NOT I WILL GO UP IN MIDST YOUR FOR [ARE] A PEOPLE STIFF OF NECK YOU LEST I SHOULD MAKE AN END OF YOU ON THE JOURNEY 3Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey. But I will not go with you, because you are a stiff-necked people; otherwise, I might destroy you on the way.”
4AND IT HEARD THE PEOPLE <OBJ.> THE WORD <THE> BAD <THE> THIS AND THEY MOURNED AND NOT THEY PLACED ANYONE ORNAMENT[S] HIS ON HIMSELF 4When the people heard this bad news, they went into mourning, and no one put on any of his jewelry.
5AND HE HAD SAID YAHWEH TO MOSES SAY TO [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL YOU [ARE] A PEOPLE STIFF OF NECK A MOMENT ONE I WILL GO UP IN MIDST YOUR AND I WILL MAKE AN END OF YOU AND THEREFORE TAKE DOWN ORNAMENT[S] YOUR FROM ON <THE> YOURSELF SO LET ME CONSIDER WHAT? WILL I DO TO <THE> YOU 5For the LORD had said to Moses, “Tell the Israelites, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. If I should go with you for a single moment, I would destroy you. Now take off your jewelry, and I will decide what to do with you.’”
6AND THEY STRIPPED THEMSELVES [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL <OBJ.> ORNAMENT[S] THEIR FROM [THE] MOUNTAIN OF HOREB 6So the Israelites stripped themselves of their jewelry from Mount Horeb onward.*NoteCloseThat is, from Mount Sinai onward, or possibly a mountain in the range containing Mount Sinai
7AND MOSES HE TOOK <OBJ.> THE TENT AND HE PITCHED <TO> <THE> IT FROM [THE] OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP AT A DISTANCE FROM THE CAMP AND HE CALLED <TO> <THE> IT [THE] TENT OF MEETING AND IT WAS ANY [ONE WHO] SOUGHT YAHWEH HE WENT OUT TO [THE] TENT OF MEETING WHICH [WAS] FROM [THE] OUTSIDE OF THE CAMP The Tent of Meeting 7Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it at a distance outside the camp. He called it the Tent of Meeting, and anyone inquiring of the LORD would go to the Tent of Meeting outside the camp.
8AND IT WAS WHEN WENT OUT MOSES TO THE TENT THEY AROSE ALL THE PEOPLE AND THEY STOOD EVERYONE [THE] OPENING OF TENT HIS AND THEY LOOKED AFTER MOSES UNTIL WENT HE THE TENT TOWARDS 8Then, whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people would stand at the entrances to their own tents and watch Moses until he entered the tent.
9AND IT WAS WHEN WENT MOSES THE TENT TOWARDS IT CAME DOWN [THE] PILLAR OF <THE> CLOUD AND IT STOOD [THE] OPENING OF THE TENT AND HE SPOKE WITH MOSES 9As Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would come down and remain at the entrance and the LORD would speak with Moses.
10AND IT SAW ALL THE PEOPLE <OBJ.> [THE] PILLAR OF <THE> CLOUD STANDING [THE] OPENING OF THE TENT AND IT AROSE ALL THE PEOPLE AND THEY BOWED DOWN EVERYONE [THE] OPENING OF TENT HIS 10When all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance to the tent, they would stand up and worship, each one at the entrance to his own tent.
11AND HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO MOSES FACE TO FACE JUST AS HE SPEAKS A PERSON TO COMPANION HIS AND HE RETURNED TO THE CAMP AND SERVANT HIS JOSHUA [THE] SON OF NUN A YOUNG MAN NOT HE DEPARTED FROM [THE] MIDST OF THE TENT 11Thus the LORD would speak to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. Then Moses would return to the camp, but his young assistant Joshua son of Nun would not leave the tent.
12AND HE SAID MOSES TO YAHWEH SEE YOU [ARE] SAYING TO ME BRING UP <OBJ.> THE PEOPLE <THE> THIS AND YOU NOT YOU HAVE MADE KNOW ME <OBJ.> WHOM YOU WILL SEND WITH ME AND YOU YOU HAVE SAID I KNOW YOU BY NAME AND ALSO YOU HAVE FOUND FAVOR IN VIEW MY The Promise of God’s Presence 12Then Moses said to the LORD, “Look, You have been telling me, ‘Lead this people up,’ but You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have found favor in My sight.’
13AND THEREFORE IF PLEASE I HAVE FOUND FAVOR IN VIEW YOUR SHOW ME PLEASE <OBJ.> WAYS YOUR SO I MAY KNOW YOU SO THAT I MAY FIND FAVOR IN VIEW YOUR AND CONSIDER THAT [IS] PEOPLE YOUR THE NATION <THE> THIS 13Now if indeed I have found favor in Your sight, please let me know Your ways, that I may know You and find favor in Your sight. Remember that this nation is Your people.”
14AND HE SAID PRESENCE MY THEY WILL GO AND I WILL GIVE REST TO <THE> YOU 14And the LORD answered, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest
15AND HE SAID TO HIM IF NOT PRESENCE YOUR [IS] GOING MAY NOT YOU BRING UP US FROM HERE 15“If Your Presence does not go with us,” Moses replied “do not lead us up from here.
16AND <IN> HOW? WILL IT BE KNOWN THEN THAT I HAVE FOUND FAVOR IN VIEW YOUR I AND PEOPLE YOUR ¿ NOT BY GOING YOU WITH US AND WE WILL BE DISTINGUISHED I AND PEOPLE YOUR FROM EVERY <THE> PEOPLE WHICH [IS] ON [THE] SURFACE OF THE GROUND 16For how then can it be known that Your people and I have found favor in Your sight, unless You go with us? How else will we be distinguished from all the other people on the face of the earth?”
17AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO MOSES ALSO <OBJ.> THE THING <THE> THIS WHICH YOU HAVE SPOKEN I WILL DO FOR YOU HAVE FOUND FAVOR IN VIEW MY AND I HAVE KNOWN YOU BY NAME 17So the LORD said to Moses, “I will do this very thing you have asked, for you have found favor in My sight, and I know you by name.”
19AND HE SAID I I WILL CAUSE TO PASS BY ALL GOODNESS MY ON FACE YOUR AND I WILL PROCLAIM <IN> [THE] NAME OF YAHWEH <TO> BEFORE YOU AND I WILL SHOW FAVOR TO <OBJ.> [THOSE] WHOM I WILL SHOW FAVOR AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON <OBJ.> [THOSE] WHOM I WILL HAVE COMPASSION 19“I will cause all My goodness to pass before you,” the LORD replied, “and I will proclaim My name— the LORD— in your presence. 20AND HE SAID NOT YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SEE <OBJ.> FACE MY FOR NOT HE WILL SEE ME <THE> PERSON AND HE WILL LIVE 20But He added, “You cannot see My face, for no one can see Me and live.”
21AND HE SAID YAHWEH THERE! A PLACE [IS] WITH ME AND YOU WILL STAND ON THE ROCK 21The LORD continued, “There is a place near Me where you are to stand upon a rock,
22AND IT WILL BE WHEN PASSES BY GLORY MY AND I WILL PUT YOU IN [THE] CLEFT OF THE ROCK AND I WILL HOLD PALM MY OVER YOU UNTIL HAVE PASSED BY I 22and when My glory passes by, I will put you in a cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by.
23AND I WILL REMOVE <OBJ.> PALM MY AND YOU WILL SEE <OBJ.> BACK PARTS MY AND FACE MY NOT THEY WILL BE VISIBLE 23Then I will take My hand away, and you will see My back; but My face must not be seen.”
