63SO THAT YOU MAY REMEMBER AND YOU WILL BE ASHAMED AND NOT IT WILL BELONG TO YOU AGAIN AN OPENING OF A MOUTH <FROM> BECAUSE OF DISGRACE YOUR WHEN MAKE ATONEMENT I FOR YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH 63so that when I make atonement for all you have done, you will remember and be ashamed and never again open your mouth because of your disgrace, declares the Lord GOD.”
1AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME <TO> SAYING The Parable of Two Eagles and a Vine (Matthew 13:24–30) 1Now the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
2O SON OF HUMANKIND ASK A RIDDLE A RIDDLE AND SPEAK A PARABLE A PARABLE CONCERNING [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL 2“Son of man, pose a riddle; speak a parable to the house of Israel
3AND YOU WILL SAY THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH THE EAGLE <THE> GREAT <THE> GREAT OF <THE> WINGS <THE> LONG OF <THE> PINION FULL <THE> PLUMAGE WHICH [BELONGED] TO IT <THE> VARIEGATED PLUMAGE IT CAME TO <THE> LEBANON AND IT TOOK <OBJ.> [THE] TREETOP OF THE CEDAR 3and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘A great eagle with great wings and long pinions,*NoteClosePinions are the outer parts of a bird’s wings, including the flight feathers. full of feathers of many colors, came to Lebanon and took away the top of the cedar.
4<OBJ.> [THE] TOP SHOOTS ITS IT PLUCKED OFF AND IT BROUGHT IT TO A LAND OF MERCHANT[S] IN A CITY OF TRADERS IT PLACED IT 4He plucked off its topmost shoot, carried it to the land of merchants, and planted it in a city of traders.
5AND IT TOOK ONE OF [THE] SEED OF THE LAND AND IT PUT IT IN A FIELD OF SEED <YOU> TAKE [IT] AT WATERS MANY A WILLOW IT PLACED IT 5He took some of the seed of the land and planted it in fertile soil;*NoteCloseHebrew in a field of seed he placed it by abundant waters and set it out like a willow.
6AND IT SPROUTED AND IT BECAME <INTO> A VINE SPREADING LOW OF STATURE TO TURN BRANCHES ITS TO IT AND ROOTS ITS UNDER IT THEY WERE AND IT BECAME <INTO> A VINE AND IT PRODUCED SHOOTS AND IT SENT OUT BOUGHS 6It sprouted and became a spreading vine, low in height, with branches turned toward him; yet its roots remained where it stood. So it became a vine and yielded branches and sent out shoots.
7AND IT WAS AN EAGLE ONE GREAT GREAT OF WINGS AND GREAT OF PLUMAGE AND THERE! THE VINE <THE> THIS IT BENT ROOTS ITS ON IT AND BRANCHES ITS IT SENT OUT TO IT TO WATER <OBJ.> IT FROM [THE] BEDS OF PLANTING ITS 7But there was another great eagle with great wings and many feathers. And behold, this vine bent its roots toward him. It stretched out its branches to him from its planting bed, so that he might water it.
8TO A FIELD GOOD TO WATERS MANY IT [WAS] PLANTED TO PRODUCE BRANCH[ES] AND TO BEAR FRUIT TO BECOME <INTO> A VINE OF SPLENDOR 8It had been planted in good soil by abundant waters in order to yield branches and bear fruit and become a splendid vine.’
9SAY THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH WILL IT PROSPER? ¿ NOT <OBJ.> ROOTS ITS WILL IT PULL UP AND <OBJ.> FRUIT ITS WILL IT STRIP OFF? AND IT WILL WITHER ALL [THE] FRESH [THINGS] OF GROWTH ITS IT WILL WITHER AND NOT BY AN ARM GREAT AND BY A PEOPLE NUMEROUS TO LIFT UP <OBJ.> IT FROM ROOTS ITS 9So you are to tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Will it flourish? Will it not be uprooted and stripped of its fruit so that it shrivels? All its foliage will wither! It will not take a strong arm or many people to pull it up by its roots.
10AND THERE! [IT IS] PLANTED ¿ WILL IT PROSPER ¿ NOT WHEN TOUCHES <IN> IT [THE] WIND OF THE EAST WILL IT WITHER COMPLETELY <TO WITHER> ON [THE] BEDS OF GROWTH ITS IT WILL WITHER 10Even if it is transplanted, will it flourish? Will it not completely wither when the east wind strikes It will wither on the bed where it sprouted.’”
11AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME <TO> SAYING The Parable Explained 11Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
12SAY PLEASE TO [THE] HOUSE OF <THE> REBELLION ¿ NOT DO YOU KNOW WHAT? [ARE] THESE [THINGS] SAY THERE! HE WENT [THE] KING OF BABYLON JERUSALEM AND HE TOOK <OBJ.> KING ITS AND <OBJ.> PRINCES ITS AND HE BROUGHT <OBJ.> THEM TO HIMSELF BABYLON TOWARDS 12“Now say to this rebellious house: ‘Do you not know what these things mean?’ Tell them, ‘Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, carried off its king and officials, and brought them back with him to Babylon.
13AND HE TOOK ONE OF [THE] OFFSPRING OF <THE> ROYALTY AND HE MADE WITH HIM A COVENANT AND HE MADE GO <OBJ.> HIM IN AN OATH AND <OBJ.> [THE] LEADERS OF THE LAND HE TOOK 13He took a member of the royal family*NoteCloseHebrew the royal seed and made a covenant with him, putting him under oath. Then he carried away the leading men of the land,
14TO BE A KINGDOM LOWLY TO NOT TO EXALT ITSELF TO KEEP <OBJ.> COVENANT HIS TO CONTINUE IT 14so that the kingdom would be brought low, unable to lift itself up, surviving only by keeping his covenant.
15AND HE REBELLED AGAINST HIM BY SENDING MESSENGERS HIS EGYPT TO GIVE TO <THE> HIM HORSES AND A PEOPLE NUMEROUS ¿ WILL HE PROSPER ¿ WILL HE ESCAPE THE [ONE WHO] DOES THESE [THINGS] AND WILL HE BREAK? A COVENANT AND WILL HE ESCAPE? 15But this king rebelled against Babylon by sending his envoys to Egypt to ask for horses and a large army. Will he flourish? Will the one who does such things escape? Can he break a covenant and yet escape?’
16[BY] [THE] LIFE OF ME [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH IF NOT IN [THE] PLACE OF THE KING WHO MADE KING <OBJ.> HIM WHOM HE DESPISED <OBJ.> OATH HIS AND WHOM HE BROKE <OBJ.> COVENANT HIS WITH HIM IN [THE] MIDST OF BABYLON HE WILL DIE 16‘As surely as I live,’ declares the Lord GOD, ‘he will die in Babylon, in the land of the king who enthroned him, whose oath he despised and whose covenant he broke.
17AND NOT WITH AN ARMY LARGE AND WITH A COMPANY GREAT HE WILL DO WITH <OBJ.> HIM PHARAOH IN <THE> BATTLE WHEN POUR OUT A MOUND AND WHEN BUILD A SIEGE-WALL TO CUT OFF LIVES MANY 17Pharaoh with his mighty army and vast horde will not help him in battle, when ramps are built and siege walls constructed to destroy many lives.
18AND HE DESPISED [THE] OATH BY BREAKING [THE] COVENANT AND THERE! HE HAD GIVEN HAND HIS AND ALL THESE [THINGS] HE DID NOT HE WILL ESCAPE 18He despised the oath by breaking the covenant. Seeing that he gave his hand in pledge yet did all these things, he will not escape!’
19<TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH [BY] [THE] LIFE OF ME IF NOT OATH MY WHICH HE DESPISED AND COVENANT MY WHICH HE BROKE AND I WILL REQUITE IT ON OWN HEAD HIS 19Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘As surely as I live, I will bring down upon his head My oath that he despised and My covenant that he broke.
20AND I WILL SPREAD OVER HIM NET MY AND HE WILL BE CAUGHT IN HUNTING NET MY AND I WILL BRING HIM BABYLON TOWARDS AND I WILL ENTER INTO JUDGMENT WITH HIM THERE UNFAITHFULNESS HIS WHICH HE HAS ACTED UNFAITHFULLY AGAINST ME 20I will spread My net over him and catch him in My snare. I will bring him to Babylon and execute judgment upon him there for the treason he committed against Me.
21AND <OBJ.> ALL FUGITIVES HIS AMONG ALL TROOPS HIS BY THE SWORD THEY WILL FALL AND THE [ONES WHO] SURVIVE TO EVERY WIND THEY WILL BE SCATTERED AND YOU WILL KNOW THAT I YAHWEH I HAVE SPOKEN 21All his choice troops*NoteCloseMany Hebrew manuscripts; MT All his fleeing troops will fall by the sword, and those who survive will be scattered to every wind. Then you will know that I, the LORD, have spoken.’
22THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH AND I WILL TAKE I FROM [THE] TREETOP OF THE CEDAR <THE> HIGH AND I WILL PLACE [IT] FROM [THE] TOP OF YOUNG SHOOTS ITS A TENDER [SHOOT] I WILL PLUCK OFF AND I WILL PLANT [IT] I ON A MOUNTAIN HIGH AND LOFTY 22This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I will take a shoot from the lofty top of the cedar, and I will set it out. I will pluck a tender sprig from its topmost shoots, and I will plant it on a high and lofty mountain.
23ON [THE] MOUNTAIN OF [THE] HEIGHT OF ISRAEL I WILL PLANT IT AND IT WILL BEAR BRANCH[ES] AND IT WILL PRODUCE FRUIT AND IT WILL BECOME <INTO> A CEDAR MAJESTIC AND THEY WILL DWELL UNDER IT EVERY BIRD EVERY WING IN [THE] SHADOW OF BRANCHES ITS THEY WILL DWELL 23I will plant it on the mountain heights of Israel so that it will bear branches; it will yield fruit and become a majestic cedar. Birds of every kind will nest under it, taking shelter in the shade of its branches.
24AND THEY WILL KNOW ALL [THE] TREES OF THE FIELD THAT I YAHWEH I BRING LOW A TREE TALL I RAISE UP A TREE LOW I MAKE DRY A TREE MOIST AND I MAKE SPROUT A TREE DRY I YAHWEH I HAVE SPOKEN AND I WILL ACT 24Then all the trees of the field will know that I am the LORD. I bring the tall tree down and make the low tree tall. I dry up the green tree and make the withered tree flourish. I, the LORD, have spoken, and I have done it.’”
