49AND PEOPLE WILL REQUITE LICENTIOUSNESS YOUR TO YOU AND [THE] SINS OF IDOLS YOUR YOU WILL BEAR AND YOU WILL KNOW THAT I [AM THE] LORD YAHWEH 49They will repay you for your indecency, and you will bear the consequences of your sins of idolatry. Then you will know that I am the Lord GOD.’”
1AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME IN THE YEAR <THE> NINTH IN THE MONTH <THE> TENTH ON THE TEN OF THE MONTH <TO> SAYING The Parable of the Cooking Pot 1In the ninth year, on the tenth day of the tenth month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
2O SON OF HUMANKIND WRITE <FOR> YOURSELF <OBJ.> [THE] NAME OF THE DAY <OBJ.> [THE] SUBSTANCE OF THE DAY <THE> THIS HE HAS LEANED [THE] KING OF BABYLON TO JERUSALEM ON [THE] SUBSTANCE OF THE DAY <THE> THIS 2“Son of man, write down today’s date, for on this very day the king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem.
3AND SPEAK A PARABLE TO [THE] HOUSE OF <THE> REBELLION A PARABLE AND YOU WILL SAY TO THEM THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH PUT ON THE POT PUT ON AND ALSO POUR IN <THE> IT WATER 3Now speak a parable to this rebellious house and tell them that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Put the pot on the fire; put it on and pour in the water.
4GATHER PIECES OF MEAT ITS INTO IT EVERY PIECE OF MEAT GOOD THIGH AND SHOULDER [THE] CHOICEST OF [THE] BONES FILL [IT] 4Put in the pieces of meat, every good piece— thigh and shoulder— fill it with choice bones.
5[THE] CHOICEST OF THE FLOCK TAKE AND ALSO PILE UP THE BONES UNDER IT MAKE BOIL BOILING ITS ALSO THEY HAVE COOKED BONES ITS IN [THE] MIDST OF IT 5Take the choicest of the flock and pile the fuel beneath it. Bring it to a boil and cook the bones in it.’
6<TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH WOE! [THE] CITY OF <THE> BLOOD<S> A POT WHICH RUST ITS [IS] IN IT AND RUST ITS NOT IT HAS GONE OUT FROM IT TO PIECE OF MEAT ITS TO PIECE OF MEAT ITS TAKE OUT IT NOT IT HAS FALLEN ON IT A LOT 6Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Woe to the city of bloodshed, to the pot now rusted whose rust will not come off! Empty it piece by piece; cast no lots for its contents.*NoteCloseOr let no lot fall upon it
7FOR BLOOD ITS IN [THE] MIDST OF IT IT WAS ON BARENESS OF ROCK IT PUT IT NOT IT POURED OUT IT ON THE GROUND TO COVER OVER IT DUST 7For the blood she shed is still within her; she poured it out on the bare rock; she did not pour it on the ground to cover it with dust.
8TO STIR UP RAGE TO AVENGE VENGEANCE I PUT <OBJ.> BLOOD ITS ON BARENESS OF ROCK TO NOT TO BE COVERED 8In order to stir up wrath and take vengeance, I have placed her blood on the bare rock, so that it would not be covered.’
9<TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH WOE! [THE] CITY OF <THE> BLOOD<S> ALSO I I WILL MAKE GREAT THE PILE 9Yes, this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Woe to the city of bloodshed! I, too, will pile the kindling high.
10INCREASE THE WOOD<S> KINDLE THE FIRE COMPLETE THE MEAT AND MIX THE SEASONING AND THE BONES LET THEM BE CHARRED 10Pile on the logs and kindle the fire; cook the meat well and mix in the spices; let the bones be burned.
11AND SET IT ON BURNING COALS ITS EMPTY SO THAT IT MAY GROW WARM AND IT WILL BE HOT BRONZE ITS AND IT WILL BE MELTED IN [THE] MIDST OF IT UNCLEANNESS ITS IT MAY BE CONSUMED RUST ITS 11Set the empty pot on its coals until it becomes hot and its copper glows. Then its impurity will melt within; its rust will be consumed.
12TOIL<S> IT HAS MADE WEARY AND NOT IT COMES OUT FROM IT [THE] GREAT [AMOUNT] OF RUST ITS IN A FIRE RUST ITS 12It has frustrated every effort; its thick rust has not been removed, even by the fire.
13IN UNCLEANNESS YOUR LICENTIOUSNESS BECAUSE I CLEANSED YOU AND NOT YOU ARE CLEAN FROM UNCLEANNESS YOUR NOT YOU WILL BE CLEAN AGAIN UNTIL GIVE REST TO I <OBJ.> RAGE MY ON YOU 13Because of the indecency of your uncleanness I tried to cleanse you, but you would not be purified from your filthiness. You will not be pure again until My wrath against you has subsided.
14I YAHWEH I HAVE SPOKEN [IT IS] COMING AND I WILL ACT NOT I WILL REFRAIN AND NOT I WILL HAVE COMPASSION AND NOT I WILL HAVE PITY ACCORDING TO WAYS YOUR AND ACCORDING TO PRACTICES YOUR THEY HAVE JUDGED YOU [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH 14I, the LORD, have spoken; the time is coming, and I will act. I will not refrain or show pity, nor will I relent. I will judge you according to your ways and deeds,’ declares the Lord GOD.”
15AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME <TO> SAYING Ezekiel’s Wife Dies 15Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
16O SON OF HUMANKIND HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO TAKE FROM YOU <OBJ.> [THE] DESIRE OF EYES YOUR WITH A BLOW AND NOT YOU MUST LAMENT AND NOT YOU MUST WEEP AND NOT IT WILL COME TEAR[S] YOUR 16“Son of man, behold, I am about to take away the desire of your eyes with a fatal blow. But you must not mourn or weep or let your tears flow.
17GROANING BE SILENT DEAD [PEOPLE] MOURNING NOT YOU MUST DO TURBAN YOUR BIND ON YOU AND SANDALS YOUR YOU WILL PUT ON FEET YOUR AND NOT YOU MUST COVER OVER A MOUSTACHE AND FOOD OF PEOPLE NOT YOU MUST EAT 17Groan quietly; do not mourn for the dead. Put on your turban and strap your sandals on your feet; do not cover your lips or eat the bread of mourners
18AND I SPOKE TO THE PEOPLE IN THE MORNING AND SHE DIED WIFE MY IN THE EVENING AND I DID IN THE MORNING JUST AS I HAD BEEN COMMANDED 18So I spoke to the people in the morning, and in the evening my wife died. And the next morning I did as I had been commanded.
19AND THEY SAID TO ME THE PEOPLE ¿ NOT WILL YOU TELL TO US WHAT? [ARE] THESE [THINGS] FOR US THAT YOU [ARE] DOING 19Then the people asked me, “Won’t you tell us what these things you are doing mean to us?”
20AND I SAID TO THEM [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH IT CAME TO ME <TO> SAYING 20So I answered them, “The word of the LORD came to me, saying:
21SAY TO [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO PROFANE <OBJ.> SANCTUARY MY [THE] PRIDE OF STRENGTH YOUR [THE] DESIRE OF EYES YOUR AND [THE] LOVE OF BEING YOUR AND SONS YOUR AND DAUGHTERS YOUR WHOM YOU HAVE LEFT BY THE SWORD THEY WILL FALL 21Tell the house of Israel that this is what the Lord GOD says: ‘I am about to desecrate My sanctuary, the pride of your power, the desire of your eyes, and the delight of your soul. And the sons and daughters you left behind will fall by the sword.’
22AND YOU WILL DO JUST AS I HAVE DONE OVER A MOUSTACHE NOT YOU MUST COVER AND FOOD OF PEOPLE NOT YOU MUST EAT 22Then you will do as I have done: You will not cover your lips or eat the bread of mourners.
23AND TURBANS YOUR [WILL BE] ON HEADS YOUR AND SANDALS YOUR [WILL BE] ON FEET YOUR NOT YOU MUST LAMENT AND NOT YOU MUST WEEP AND YOU WILL WASTE AWAY IN INIQUITIES YOUR AND YOU WILL GROAN EACH TO BROTHER HIS 23Your turbans will remain on your heads and your sandals on your feet. You will not mourn or weep, but you will waste away because of your sins, and you will groan among yourselves.
24AND HE WILL BECOME EZEKIEL FOR YOU <INTO> A SIGN ACCORDING TO ALL THAT HE HAS DONE YOU WILL DO WHEN COMES IT AND YOU WILL KNOW THAT I [AM THE] LORD YAHWEH 24‘Thus Ezekiel will be a sign for you; you will do everything that he has done. When this happens, you will know that I am the Lord GOD.’
25AND YOU O SON OF HUMANKIND ¿ NOT ON [THE] DAY TAKE I FROM THEM <OBJ.> STRONGHOLD THEIR [THE] JOY OF SPLENDOR THEIR <OBJ.> [THE] DESIRE OF EYES THEIR AND <OBJ.> [THE] UPLIFTING OF BEING THEIR SONS THEIR AND DAUGHTERS THEIR 25And you, son of man, know that on the day I take away their stronghold, their pride and joy— the desire of their eyes which uplifted their souls— and their sons and daughters as well,
26ON THE DAY <THE> THAT HE WILL COME THE ESCAPEE TO YOU FOR INFORMATION OF EARS 26on that day a fugitive will come and tell you the news.
27ON THE DAY <THE> THAT IT WILL BE OPENED MOUTH YOUR WITH THE ESCAPEE SO YOU MAY SPEAK AND NOT YOU WILL BE DUMB AGAIN AND YOU WILL BECOME FOR THEM <INTO> A SIGN AND THEY WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH 27On that day your mouth will be opened to him who has escaped; you will speak and no longer be mute. So you will be a sign to them, and they will know that I am the LORD.”
