21ON THE DAY <THE> THAT I WILL MAKE GROW A HORN FOR [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL AND TO YOU I WILL GIVE OPENING OF MOUTH IN MIDST OF THEM AND THEY WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH 21In that day I will cause a horn to sprout for the house of Israel, and I will open your mouth to speak among them. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
1AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME <TO> SAYING A Lament for Egypt 1Again the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
2O SON OF HUMANKIND PROPHESY AND YOU WILL SAY THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH WAIL ALAS! FOR THE DAY 2“Son of man, prophesy and declare that this is what the Lord GOD says: Wail, ‘Alas for that day!’
3FOR [IS] NEAR A DAY AND [IS] NEAR A DAY OF YAHWEH A DAY OF CLOUD[S] A TIME OF NATIONS IT WILL BE 3For the day is near, the Day of the LORD is near. It will be a day of clouds, a time of doom for the nations.*NoteCloseHebrew does not include of doom.
4AND IT WILL COME A SWORD ON EGYPT AND IT WILL BE ANGUISH ON CUSH WHEN FALL [THE] SLAIN IN EGYPT AND PEOPLE WILL TAKE AWAY WEALTH ITS AND THEY WILL BE TORN DOWN FOUNDATIONS ITS 4A sword will come against Egypt, and there will be anguish in Cush*NoteCloseThat is, the upper Nile region; also in verses 5 and 9 when the slain fall in Egypt, its wealth is taken away, and its foundations are torn down.
5CUSH AND PUT AND LUD AND EVERY <THE> FOREIGNER AND LIBYA AND [THE] SONS OF [THE] LAND OF THE COVENANT WITH THEM BY THE SWORD THEY WILL FALL 5Cush, Put, and Lud,*NoteCloseOr Lydia and all the various peoples, as well as Libya and the men of the covenant land, will fall with Egypt by the sword.
6THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH AND THEY WILL FALL [THE] SUPPORTERS OF EGYPT AND IT WILL COME DOWN [THE] PRIDE OF STRENGTH ITS FROM MIGDOL SYENE BY THE SWORD THEY WILL FALL IN IT [THE] UTTERANCE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH 6For this is what the LORD says: The allies of Egypt will fall, and her proud strength will collapse. From Migdol to Syene*NoteCloseThat is, Aswan; see Isaiah 49:12 they will fall by the sword within her, declares the Lord GOD.
7AND THEY WILL BE DESOLATE IN MIDST OF LANDS MADE DESOLATE AND CITIES ITS IN MIDST OF CITIES MADE WASTE THEY WILL BE 7They will be desolate among desolate lands, and their cities will lie among ruined cities.
8AND THEY WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH WHEN PUT I FIRE IN EGYPT AND THEY WILL BE BROKEN ALL HELPERS ITS 8Then they will know that I am the LORD when I set fire to Egypt and all her helpers are shattered.
9ON THE DAY <THE> THAT THEY WILL GO OUT MESSENGERS FROM TO BEFORE ME IN THE SHIPS TO MAKE TREMBLE <OBJ.> CUSH SECURITY AND IT WILL BE ANGUISH ON THEM ON [THE] DAY OF EGYPT FOR THERE! [IT IS] COMING 9On that day messengers will go out from Me in ships to frighten Cush out of complacency. Anguish will come upon them on the day of Egypt’s doom.*NoteCloseHebrew the day of Egypt For it is indeed coming.
10THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH AND I WILL PUT AN END TO <OBJ.> [THE] MULTITUDE OF EGYPT BY [THE] HAND OF NEBUCHADNEZZAR [THE] KING OF BABYLON 10This is what the Lord GOD says: I will put an end to the hordes of Egypt by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
11HE AND PEOPLE HIS WITH HIM RUTHLESS [ONES] OF NATIONS [WILL BE] BROUGHT TO DESTROY THE LAND AND THEY WILL DRAW SWORDS THEIR ON EGYPT AND THEY WILL FILL <OBJ.> THE LAND [THE] SLAIN 11He and his people with him, the most ruthless of the nations, will be brought in to destroy the land. They will draw their swords against Egypt and fill the land with the slain.
12AND I WILL MAKE CANALS DRY GROUND AND I WILL SELL <OBJ.> THE LAND IN [THE] HAND OF WICKED [PEOPLE] AND I WILL DEVASTATE [THE] LAND AND WHAT FILLS IT BY [THE] HAND OF STRANGERS I YAHWEH I HAVE SPOKEN 12I will make the streams dry up and sell the land to the wicked. By the hands of foreigners I will bring desolation upon the land and everything in it. I, the LORD, have spoken.
13THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH AND I WILL DESTROY IDOLS AND I WILL CAUSE TO CEASE WORTHLESS IDOLS FROM MEMPHIS AND A PRINCE FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT NOT HE WILL BE AGAIN AND I WILL PUT FEAR IN [THE] LAND OF EGYPT 13This is what the Lord GOD says: I will destroy the idols and put an end to the images in Memphis.*NoteCloseLXX; Hebrew Noph; also in verse 16 There will no longer be a prince in Egypt, and I will instill fear in that land.
14AND I WILL DEVASTATE <OBJ.> PATHROS AND I WILL PUT FIRE IN ZOAN AND I WILL BRING ABOUT JUDGMENTS ON THEBES 14I will lay waste Pathros set fire to Zoan, and execute judgment on Thebes.*NoteCloseHebrew No; also in verses 15 and 16
15AND I WILL POUR OUT RAGE MY ON SIN [THE] STRONGHOLD OF EGYPT AND I WILL CUT OFF <OBJ.> [THE] MULTITUDE OF THEBES 15I will pour out My wrath on Pelusium,*NoteCloseHebrew Sin; also in verse 16 the stronghold of Egypt, and cut off the crowds of Thebes.
16AND I WILL PUT FIRE IN EGYPT SURELY <WRITHE IN AGONY> IT WILL WRITHE IN AGONY SIN AND THEBES IT IS [ABOUT] TO BE BROKEN INTO AND MEMPHIS DISTRESS OF DAYTIME 16I will set fire to Egypt, Pelusium will writhe in anguish, Thebes will be split open, and Memphis will face daily distress.
17[THE] YOUNG MEN OF ON AND PI- BESETH BY THE SWORD THEY WILL FALL AND THEY [FEM] IN <THE> CAPTIVITY THEY WILL GO 17The young men of On and Pi-beseth*NoteCloseThat is, Heliopolis and Bubastis, as in LXX; Hebrew Aven and Pi-beseth will fall by the sword, and those cities will go into captivity.
18AND IN TAHPANHES IT WILL WITHHOLD THE DAY WHEN BREAK I THERE <OBJ.> [THE] YOKE-BARS OF EGYPT AND IT WILL CEASE IN IT [THE] PRIDE OF STRENGTH ITS IT A CLOUD IT WILL COVER IT AND DAUGHTERS ITS IN <THE> CAPTIVITY THEY WILL GO 18The day will be darkened in Tahpanhes when I break the yoke of Egypt and her proud strength comes to an end. A cloud will cover her, and her daughters will go into captivity.
19AND I WILL BRING ABOUT JUDGMENTS ON EGYPT AND THEY WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH 19So I will execute judgment on Egypt, and they will know that I am the LORD.”
20AND IT WAS IN ONE [PLUS] TEN YEAR IN THE FIRST [MONTH] ON [DAY] SEVEN OF THE MONTH IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME <TO> SAYING 20In the eleventh year, on the seventh day of the first month, the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
21O SON OF HUMANKIND <OBJ.> [THE] ARM OF PHARAOH [THE] KING OF EGYPT I HAVE BROKEN AND THERE! NOT IT HAS BEEN BOUND UP TO GIVE HEALING<S> TO PUT A BANDAGE TO BIND UP IT TO BE STRONG IT TO WIELD <ON> THE SWORD 21“Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt. See, it has not been bound up for healing, or splinted for strength to hold the sword.
22<TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH HERE I [AM] AGAINST PHARAOH [THE] KING OF EGYPT AND I WILL BREAK <OBJ.> ARMS HIS <OBJ.> THE STRONG [ONE] AND <OBJ.> THE BROKEN [ONE] AND I WILL MAKE FALL <OBJ.> THE SWORD FROM HAND HIS 22Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt. I will break his arms, both the strong one and the one already broken, and will make the sword fall from his hand.
23AND I WILL SCATTER <OBJ.> EGYPT AMONG THE NATIONS AND I WILL DISPERSE THEM AMONG THE LANDS 23I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them throughout the lands.
24AND I WILL MAKE STRONG <OBJ.> [THE] ARMS OF [THE] KING OF BABYLON AND I WILL PUT <OBJ.> SWORD MY IN HAND HIS AND I WILL BREAK <OBJ.> [THE] ARMS OF PHARAOH AND HE WILL GROAN [THE] GROANS OF [ONE] FATALLY WOUNDED <TO> BEFORE HIM 24I will strengthen the arms of Babylon’s king and place My sword in his hand, but I will break the arms of Pharaoh, who will groan before him like a mortally wounded man.
25AND I WILL STRENGTHEN <OBJ.> [THE] ARMS OF [THE] KING OF BABYLON AND [THE] ARMS OF PHARAOH THEY WILL FALL AND THEY WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH WHEN PUT I SWORD MY IN [THE] HAND OF [THE] KING OF BABYLON AND HE WILL STRETCH OUT <OBJ.> IT AGAINST [THE] LAND OF EGYPT 25I will strengthen the arms of Babylon’s king, but Pharaoh’s arms will fall limp. Then they will know that I am the LORD, when I place My sword in the hand of Babylon’s king, and he wields it against the land of Egypt.
26AND I WILL SCATTER <OBJ.> EGYPT AMONG THE NATIONS AND I WILL DISPERSE <OBJ.> THEM AMONG THE LANDS AND THEY WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH 26I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them throughout the lands. Then they will know that I am the LORD.”
