1AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO ME <TO> SAYING The Hour of Doom 1And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,
2AND YOU O SON OF HUMANKIND THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH TO [THE] LAND OF ISRAEL AN END IT HAS COME THE END ON [THE] FOUR [THE] CORNERS OF THE LAND 2“O son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says to the land of Israel: ‘The end! The end has come upon the four corners of the land.
3NOW THE END [IS] ON YOU AND I WILL SEND FORTH ANGER MY ON YOU AND I WILL JUDGE YOU ACCORDING TO WAYS YOUR AND I WILL REQUITE TO YOU <OBJ.> ALL ABOMINATIONS YOUR 3The end is now upon you, and I will unleash My anger against you. I will judge you according to your ways and repay you for all your abominations.
4AND NOT IT WILL LOOK WITH COMPASSION EYE MY ON YOU AND NOT I WILL SHOW PITY FOR WAYS YOUR TO YOU I WILL REQUITE AND ABOMINATIONS YOUR IN MIDST OF YOU THEY WILL BE AND YOU WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH 4I will not look on you with pity, nor will I spare you, but I will punish you for your ways and for the abominations among you. Then you will know that I am the LORD.’
5THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH CALAMITY ONE CALAMITY THERE! [IT IS] COMING 5This is what the Lord GOD says: ‘Disaster! An unprecedented disaster*NoteCloseOr A unique disaster, as in most Hebrew manuscripts; some Hebrew manuscripts and Syriac Disaster after disaster — behold, it is coming!
6AN END IT HAS COME IT HAS COME THE END IT HAS AWAKENED AGAINST YOU THERE! [IT IS] COMING 6The end has come! The end has come! It has roused itself against you. Behold, it has come!
7IT HAS COME <THE> DOOM TO YOU O INHABITANT OF THE LAND IT HAS COME THE TIME [IS] NEAR THE DAY CONFUSION AND NOT A SHOUT OF JOY MOUNTAINS 7Doom has come to you, O inhabitants of the land. The time has come; the day is near; there is panic on the mountains instead of shouts of joy.
8NOW FROM NEAR [FUTURE] I WILL POUR OUT RAGE MY ON YOU AND I WILL COMPLETE ANGER MY ON YOU AND I WILL JUDGE YOU ACCORDING TO WAYS YOUR AND I WILL REQUITE TO YOU <OBJ.> ALL ABOMINATIONS YOUR 8Very soon I will pour out My wrath upon you and vent My anger against you; I will judge you according to your ways and repay you for all your abominations.

Then you will know that it is I, the LORD, who strikes the blow.
10THERE! THE DAY THERE! [IT IS] COMING IT HAS GONE FORTH <THE> DOOM IT HAS BLOSSOMED THE ROD IT HAS BUDDED <THE> ARROGANCE 10Behold, the day is here! It has come! Doom has gone out, the rod has budded, arrogance has bloomed.
11<THE> VIOLENCE IT HAS ARISEN TO A ROD OF WICKEDNESS NOT ANY OF THEM AND NOT ANY OF MULTITUDE THEIR AND NOT ANY OF NOISE THEIR AND NOT DISTINCTION [IS] AMONG THEM 11Their violence has grown into a rod to punish their wickedness.*NoteCloseLiterally The violence has grown into a rod of wickedness None of them will remain: none of their multitude, none of their wealth, and nothing of value.
12IT HAS COME THE TIME IT HAS ARRIVED THE DAY THE BUYER MAY NOT HE REJOICE AND THE SELLER MAY NOT HE MOURN FOR ANGER [IS] AGAINST ALL MULTITUDE ITS 12The time has come; the day has arrived. Let the buyer not rejoice and the seller not mourn, for wrath is upon the whole multitude.
13FOR THE SELLER TO THE THING SOLD NOT HE WILL RETURN AND STILL [IS] IN <THE> LIFE LIFE THEIR FOR [THE] VISION CONCERNING ALL MULTITUDE ITS NOT IT WILL TURN BACK AND ANYONE IN INIQUITY HIS LIFE HIS NOT THEY WILL STRENGTHEN THEMSELVES 13The seller will surely not recover what he sold while both remain alive. For the vision concerning the whole multitude will not be revoked, and because of their iniquity, not one of them will preserve his life.
14THEY HAVE GIVEN A BLAST ON THE TRUMPET AND TO PREPARE <THE> EVERYTHING AND THERE NOT [IS ONE WHO] GOES TO THE BATTLE FOR ANGER MY [IS] AGAINST ALL MULTITUDE ITS The Desolation of Israel 14They have blown the trumpet and made everything ready, but no one goes to war, for My wrath is upon the whole multitude.
15THE SWORD [IS] ON THE OUTSIDE AND <THE> PESTILENCE AND <THE> FAMINE [ARE] FROM INSIDE [THE ONE] WHO [IS] IN THE OPEN COUNTRY BY THE SWORD HE WILL DIE AND [THE ONE] WHO [IS] IN THE CITY FAMINE AND PESTILENCE IT WILL CONSUME HIM 15The sword is outside; plague and famine are within. Those in the country will die by the sword, and those in the city will be devoured by famine and plague.
16AND THEY WILL ESCAPE ESCAPEES THEIR AND THEY WILL BE TO THE MOUNTAINS LIKE [THE] DOVES OF THE VALLEYS ALL OF THEM MOANING EVERYONE FOR OWN INIQUITY HIS 16The survivors will escape and live in the mountains, moaning like doves of the valley, each for his own iniquity.
17ALL THE PAIRS OF HANDS THEY WILL DROP AND ALL KNEES THEY WILL GO WATER 17Every hand will go limp, and every knee will turn to water.
18AND THEY WILL GIRD THEMSELVES SACKCLOTH<S> AND IT WILL COVER <OBJ.> THEM SHUDDERING AND [WILL BE] TO EVERY FACE SHAME AND [WILL BE] ON ALL HEADS THEIR BALDNESS 18They will put on sackcloth, and terror will overwhelm them. Shame will cover all their faces, and all their heads will be shaved.
19SILVER THEIR IN THE STREETS THEY WILL THROW AND GOLD THEIR <INTO> AN IMPURE THING IT WILL BECOME SILVER THEIR AND GOLD THEIR NOT IT WILL BE ABLE TO DELIVER THEM IN [THE] DAY OF [THE] FURY OF YAHWEH APPETITE THEIR NOT THEY WILL SATISFY AND INWARD PARTS THEIR NOT THEY WILL FILL FOR [THE] STUMBLING BLOCK OF INIQUITY THEIR IT HAS BECOME 19They will throw their silver into the streets, and their gold will seem unclean. Their silver and gold cannot save them in the day of the wrath of the LORD. They cannot satisfy their appetites or fill their stomachs with wealth, for it became the stumbling block that brought their iniquity.
20AND [THE] BEAUTY OF ORNAMENT[S] ITS INTO PRIDE HE HAS MADE IT AND [THE] IMAGES OF ABOMINATIONS THEIR DETESTABLE THINGS THEIR THEY HAVE MADE WITH IT THERE- -FORE I WILL MAKE IT FOR THEM INTO AN IMPURE THING 20His beautiful ornaments they transformed into pride and used them to fashion their vile images and detestable idols. Therefore I will make these into something unclean for them.
21AND I WILL GIVE IT IN [THE] HAND OF THE STRANGERS TO SPOIL AND TO [THE] WICKED [PEOPLE] OF THE EARTH TO PLUNDER AND THEY WILL PROFANE IT 21And I will hand these things over as plunder to foreigners and loot to the wicked of the earth, who will defile them.
22AND I WILL TURN AROUND FACE MY FROM THEM AND THEY WILL PROFANE <OBJ.> TREASURED [PLACE] MY AND THEY WILL GO IN IT ROBBERS AND THEY WILL PROFANE IT 22I will turn My face away from them, and they will defile My treasured place. Violent men will enter it, and they will defile it.
23MAKE THE CHAIN FOR THE LAND IT IS FULL JUDGMENT OF BLOOD<S> AND THE CITY IT IS FULL VIOLENCE 23Forge the chain, for the land is full of crimes of bloodshed, and the city is full of violence.
24AND I WILL BRING [THE] EVIL OF NATIONS AND THEY WILL TAKE POSSESSION OF <OBJ.> HOUSES THEIR AND I WILL PUT AN END TO [THE] PRIDE OF MIGHTY [ONES] AND THEY WILL BE PROFANED SANCTUARIES THEIR 24So I will bring the most wicked of nations to take possession of their houses. I will end the pride of the mighty, and their holy places will be profaned.
25ANGUISH IT HAS COME AND THEY WILL SEEK PEACE AND NOT 25Anguish is coming! They will seek peace, but find none.
26DISASTER TO DISASTER IT WILL COME AND REPORT TO REPORT IT WILL BE AND THEY WILL SEEK A VISION FROM A PROPHET AND INSTRUCTION IT WILL BE LOST FROM [THE] PRIEST AND COUNSEL FROM ELDERS 26Disaster upon disaster will come, and rumor after rumor. Then they will seek a vision from a prophet, but instruction from the priests will perish, as will counsel from the elders.
27THE KING HE WILL MOURN AND [THE] PRINCE HE WILL WEAR DESOLATION AND [THE] HANDS OF [THE] PEOPLE OF THE LAND THEY WILL BE TERRIFIED FROM WAY THEIR I WILL DEAL WITH <OBJ.> THEM AND BY JUDGMENTS THEIR I WILL JUDGE THEM AND THEY WILL KNOW THAT I [AM] YAHWEH 27The king will mourn, the prince will be clothed with despair, and the hands of the people of the land will tremble. I will deal with them according to their conduct, and I will judge them by their own standards. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”
