34AND SOMEONE TOOK PORTIONS FROM WITH FACE HIS TO THEM AND IT WAS GREAT [THE] PORTION OF BENJAMIN MORE THAN [THE] PORTIONS OF ALL OF THEM FIVE HANDS AND THEY DRANK AND THEY BECAME DRUNK WITH HIM 34When the portions were served to them from Joseph’s table, Benjamin’s portion was five times larger than any of the others. So they feasted and drank freely with Joseph.
1AND HE COMMANDED <OBJ.> [THE ONE] WHO [WAS] OVER HOUSEHOLD HIS <TO> SAYING FILL <OBJ.> [THE] SACKS OF THE MEN FOOD JUST AS THEY ARE ABLE! TO CARRY AND PUT [THE] SILVER OF EACH MAN IN [THE] MOUTH OF SACK HIS Benjamin and the Silver Cup 1Then Joseph instructed his steward: “Fill the men’s sacks with as much food as they can carry, and put each one’s silver in the mouth of his sack.
2AND <OBJ.> CUP MY [THE] CUP OF <THE> SILVER YOU WILL PUT IN [THE] MOUTH OF [THE] SACK OF THE YOUNG [BROTHER] AND <OBJ.> [THE] SILVER OF GRAIN HIS AND HE DID ACCORDING TO [THE] WORD OF JOSEPH WHICH HE HAD SPOKEN 2Put my cup, the silver one, in the mouth of the youngest one’s sack, along with the silver for his grain.” So the steward did as Joseph had instructed.
3THE MORNING IT WAS LIGHT AND THE MEN THEY WERE SENT OFF THEY AND DONKEYS THEIR 3At daybreak, the men were sent on their way with their donkeys.
4THEY THEY CAME OUT <OBJ.> THE CITY NOT THEY HAD GONE FAR AND JOSEPH HE SAID TO [THE ONE] WHO [WAS] OVER HOUSEHOLD HIS ARISE PURSUE AFTER THE MEN AND YOU WILL OVERTAKE THEM AND YOU WILL SAY TO THEM <TO> WHY? HAVE YOU REPAID EVIL FOR GOOD 4They had not gone far from the city when Joseph told his steward, “Pursue the men at once, and when you overtake them, ask, ‘Why have you repaid good with evil?*NoteCloseLXX includes Why have you stolen my silver cup?

6AND HE OVERTOOK THEM AND HE SPOKE TO THEM <OBJ.> THE WORDS <THE> THESE 6When the steward overtook them, he relayed these words to them.
7AND THEY SAID TO HIM <TO> WHY? DOES HE SPEAK MASTER MY ACCORDING TO THE WORDS <THE> THESE FAR BE IT TO SERVANTS YOUR FROM DOING ACCORDING TO THE MANNER <THE> THIS 7“Why does my lord say these things?” they asked. “Your servants could not possibly do such a thing.
8HERE! SILVER WHICH WE FOUND IN [THE] MOUTH OF SACKS OUR WE BROUGHT BACK TO YOU FROM [THE] LAND OF CANAAN AND HOW? WILL WE STEAL FROM [THE] HOUSE OF MASTER<S> YOUR SILVER OR GOLD 8We even brought back to you from the land of Canaan the silver we found in the mouths of our sacks. Why would we steal silver or gold from your master’s house?
9[ANYONE] WHOM IT IS FOUND WITH HIM OF SERVANTS YOUR AND HE WILL DIE AND ALSO WE WE WILL BE[LONG] TO LORD MY TO SLAVES 9If any of your servants is found to have it, he must die, and the rest will become slaves of my lord.”
10AND HE SAID ALSO NOW ACCORDING TO WORDS YOUR [WILL BE] SO IT [ANYONE] WHOM IT IS FOUND WITH HIM HE WILL BE OF ME SLAVE AND YOU YOU WILL BE INNOCENT 10As you say,” replied the steward. “But only the one who is found with the cup will be my slave, and the rest of you shall be free of blame.”
11AND THEY HURRIED AND THEY BROUGHT DOWN EACH MAN <OBJ.> SACK HIS [THE] GROUND TOWARDS AND THEY OPENED EACH MAN SACK HIS 11So each one quickly lowered his sack to the ground and opened it.
12AND HE SEARCHED WITH THE OLD [BROTHER] HE BEGAN AND WITH THE YOUNG [BROTHER] HE FINISHED AND IT WAS FOUND THE CUP IN [THE] SACK OF BENJAMIN 12The steward searched, beginning with the oldest and ending with the youngest— and the cup was found in Benjamin’s sack.
13AND THEY TORE CLOTHES THEIR AND HE LOADED EACH MAN ON DONKEY HIS AND THEY WENT BACK THE CITY TOWARDS 13Then they all tore their clothes, loaded their donkeys, and returned to the city.
14AND HE CAME JUDAH AND BROTHERS HIS [THE] HOUSE OF TOWARDS JOSEPH AND HE STILL HE [WAS] THERE AND THEY FELL <TO> BEFORE HIM [THE] GROUND TOWARDS 14When Judah and his brothers arrived at Joseph’s house, he was still there, and they fell to the ground before him.
15AND HE SAID TO THEM JOSEPH WHAT? [IS] THE DEED <THE> THIS WHICH YOU HAVE DONE ¿ NOT DO YOU KNOW THAT INDEED <DIVINE> HE PRACTICES DIVINATION A MAN WHO [IS] LIKE ME 15“What is this deed you have done?” Joseph declared “Do you not know that a man like me can surely divine the truth
16AND HE SAID JUDAH WHAT? WILL WE SAY TO LORD MY WHAT? WILL WE SPEAK AND WHAT? WILL WE JUSTIFY OURSELVES <THE> GOD HE HAS FOUND <OBJ.> [THE] GUILT OF SERVANTS YOUR HERE WE [ARE] SLAVES OF LORD MY BOTH WE AS WELL AS [THE ONE] WHO IT WAS FOUND THE CUP IN HAND HIS 16“What can we say to my lord?” Judah replied. “How can we plead? How can we justify ourselves? God has exposed the iniquity of your servants. We are now my lord’s slaves— both we and the one who was found with the cup.”
17AND HE SAID FAR BE IT TO ME FROM DOING THIS THE MAN WHOM IT WAS FOUND THE CUP IN HAND HIS HE HE WILL BE OF ME SLAVE AND YOU GO UP TO PEACE TO FATHER YOUR 17But Joseph replied, “Far be it from me to do this. The man who was found with the cup will be my slave. The rest of you may return to your father in peace.”
18AND HE DREW NEAR TO HIM JUDAH AND HE SAID PARDON ME O LORD MY MAY HE SPEAK PLEASE SERVANT YOUR A WORD IN [THE] EARS OF LORD MY AND MAY NOT IT BURN ANGER YOUR ON SERVANT YOUR FOR AS YOU AS PHARAOH Judah Pleads for Benjamin 18Then Judah approached Joseph and said, “Sir, please let your servant speak personally to my lord. Do not be angry with your servant, for you are equal to Pharaoh himself.
19LORD MY HE ASKED <OBJ.> SERVANTS HIS <TO> SAYING ¿ [DOES] THERE [BELONG] TO YOU A FATHER OR A BROTHER 19My lord asked his servants, ‘Do you have a father or a brother?’
20AND WE SAID TO LORD MY THERE [BELONGS] TO US A FATHER OLD AND A CHILD OF OLD AGE<S> YOUNG AND BROTHER HIS HE DIED AND HE WAS LEFT HE TO ONLY HIM TO MOTHER HIS AND FATHER HIS HE LOVES HIM 20And we answered, ‘We have an elderly father and a younger brother, the child of his old age. The boy’s brother is dead. He is the only one of his mother’s sons left, and his father loves him.’
21AND YOU SAID TO SERVANTS YOUR BRING DOWN HIM TO ME SO LET ME SET EYE MY ON HIM 21Then you told your servants, ‘Bring him down to me so that I can see him for myself.’
22AND WE SAID TO LORD MY NOT HE WILL BE ABLE THE YOUNG MAN TO LEAVE <OBJ.> FATHER HIS AND HE WILL LEAVE <OBJ.> FATHER HIS AND HE WILL DIE 22So we said to my lord, ‘The boy cannot leave his father. If he were to leave, his father would die.’
23AND YOU SAID TO SERVANTS YOUR IF NOT HE WILL COME DOWN BROTHER YOUR <THE> YOUNG WITH YOU NOT YOU WILL REPEAT! TO SEE FACE MY 23But you said to your servants, Unless your younger brother comes down with you, you will not see my face again.’
24AND IT WAS THAT WE WENT UP TO SERVANT YOUR FATHER MY AND WE TOLD TO HIM <OBJ.> [THE] WORDS OF LORD MY 24Now when we returned to your servant my father, we relayed your words to him.
25AND HE SAID FATHER OUR GO BACK BUY FOR US A LITTLE OF FOOD 25Then our father said, ‘Go back and buy us some food.’
26AND WE SAID NOT WE ARE ABLE TO GO DOWN IF THERE [IS] BROTHER OUR <THE> YOUNG WITH US AND WE WILL GO DOWN FOR NOT WE WILL BE ABLE TO SEE [THE] FACE OF THE MAN AND BROTHER OUR <THE> YOUNG NOT HE [IS] WITH US 26But we answered, ‘We cannot go down there unless our younger brother goes with us. So if our younger brother is not with us, we cannot see the man.’
27AND HE SAID SERVANT YOUR FATHER MY TO US YOU YOU KNOW THAT TWO [SONS] SHE BORE TO ME WIFE MY 27And your servant my father said to us, ‘You know that my wife bore me two sons.
28AND HE WENT OUT THE ONE FROM WITH <THE> ME AND I SAID SURELY CERTAINLY <TO TEAR> HE HAS BEEN TORN TO PIECES AND NOT I HAVE SEEN HIM UNTIL NOW 28When one of them was gone, I said: “Surely he has been torn to pieces And I have not seen him since.
29AND YOU WILL TAKE ALSO <OBJ.> THIS [ONE] FROM WITH PRESENCE MY AND IT WILL HAPPEN TO HIM HARM AND YOU WILL CAUSE TO GO DOWN <OBJ.> GRAY HAIR MY IN CALAMITY SHEOL TOWARDS 29Now if you also take this one from me and harm comes to him, you will bring my gray hair down to Sheol in sorrow.’
30AND THEREFORE WHEN COME I TO SERVANT YOUR FATHER MY AND THE LAD NOT [IS] HE WITH US AND LIFE HIS [IS] BOUND UP WITH LIFE HIS 30So if the boy is not with us when I return to your servant, and if my father, whose life is wrapped up in the boy’s life,
31AND IT WILL BE WHEN SEES HE THAT THERE NOT [IS] THE YOUNG MAN AND HE WILL DIE AND THEY WILL BRING DOWN SERVANTS YOUR <OBJ.> [THE] GRAY HAIR OF SERVANT YOUR FATHER OUR IN SORROW SHEOL TOWARDS 31sees that the boy is not with us, he will die. Then your servants will have brought the gray hair of your servant our father down to Sheol in sorrow.
32FOR SERVANT YOUR HE STOOD SURETY FOR <OBJ.> THE YOUNG MAN FROM WITH FATHER MY <TO> SAYING IF NOT I WILL BRING HIM TO YOU AND I WILL BE CULPABLE TO FATHER MY ALL THE DAYS 32Indeed, your servant guaranteed the boy’s safety to my father, saying, ‘If I do not return him to you, I will bear the guilt before you, my father, all my life.’
33AND THEREFORE LET HIM REMAIN PLEASE SERVANT YOUR IN PLACE OF THE YOUNG MAN A SLAVE OF LORD MY AND THE LAD LET HIM GO UP WITH BROTHERS HIS 33Now please let your servant stay here as my lord’s slave in place of the boy. Let him return with his brothers.
34FOR HOW? WILL I GO UP TO FATHER MY AND THE LAD NOT [IS] HE WITH ME LEST I SHOULD LOOK ON THE CALAMITY WHICH IT WILL FIND <OBJ.> FATHER MY 34For how can I go back to my father without the boy? I could not bear to see the misery that would overwhelm him.”
