1IN [THE] BEGINNING OF [THE] REIGN OF JEHOIAKIM [THE] SON OF JOSIAH [THE] KING OF JUDAH IT CAME THE WORD <THE> THIS FROM WITH YAHWEH <TO> SAYING A Warning to the Cities of Judah 1At the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, this word came from the LORD:
2THUS HE SAID YAHWEH STAND IN [THE] COURT OF [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH AND YOU WILL SPEAK TO ALL [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH WHO COME TO BOW DOWN [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH <OBJ.> ALL THE WORDS WHICH I HAVE COMMANDED YOU TO SPEAK TO THEM MAY NOT YOU HOLD BACK A WORD 2“This is what the LORD says: Stand in the courtyard of the house of the LORD and speak all the words I have commanded you to speak to all the cities of Judah who come to worship there Do not omit a word.
3PERHAPS THEY WILL LISTEN AND THEY MAY TURN BACK EVERYONE FROM WAY HIS <THE> EVIL AND I WILL REPENT CONCERNING THE CALAMITY WHICH I [AM] PLANNING TO DO TO <THE> THEM <FROM> BECAUSE OF [THE] WICKEDNESS OF DEEDS THEIR 3Perhaps they will listen and turn— each from his evil way of life— so that I may relent of the disaster I am planning to bring upon them because of the evil of their deeds.
4AND YOU WILL SAY TO THEM THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH IF NOT YOU WILL LISTEN TO ME TO WALK IN LAW MY WHICH I HAVE SET <TO> BEFORE YOU 4And you are to tell them that this is what the LORD says: ‘If you do not listen to Me and walk in My law, which I have set before you,
5TO LISTEN TO [THE] WORDS OF SERVANTS MY THE PROPHETS WHOM I [HAVE BEEN] SENDING TO YOU AND RISING EARLY AND SENDING AND NOT YOU HAVE LISTENED 5and if you do not listen to the words of My servants the prophets, whom I have sent you again and again*NoteCloseLiterally I have sent you, rising up early and sending (them), even though you did not listen,
6AND I WILL MAKE <OBJ.> THE HOUSE <THE> THIS LIKE SHILOH AND <OBJ.> THE CITY <THE> THIS I WILL MAKE INTO A CURSE FOR ALL [THE] NATIONS OF THE EARTH 6then I will make this house like Shiloh, and I will make this city an object of cursing among all the nations of the earth.’”
7AND THEY HEARD THE PRIESTS AND THE PROPHETS AND ALL THE PEOPLE <OBJ.> JEREMIAH SPEAKING <OBJ.> THE WORDS <THE> THESE IN [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH Jeremiah Threatened with Death 7Now the priests and prophets and all the people heard Jeremiah speaking these words in the house of the LORD,
8AND IT WAS WHEN HAD FINISHED JEREMIAH TO SPEAK <OBJ.> ALL THAT HE HAD COMMANDED YAHWEH TO SPEAK TO ALL THE PEOPLE AND THEY SEIZED <OBJ.> HIM THE PRIESTS AND THE PROPHETS AND ALL THE PEOPLE <TO> SAYING CERTAINLY <TO DIE> YOU WILL DIE 8and as soon as he had finished telling all the people everything the LORD had commanded him to say the priests and prophets and all the people seized him, shouting, “You must surely die!
9WHY? HAVE YOU PROPHESIED IN [THE] NAME OF YAHWEH <TO> SAYING LIKE SHILOH IT WILL BE THE HOUSE <THE> THIS AND THE CITY <THE> THIS IT WILL BE DESOLATE FROM NOT INHABITANT AND IT ASSEMBLED ALL THE PEOPLE TO JEREMIAH IN [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH 9How dare you prophesy in the name of the LORD that this house will become like Shiloh and this city will be desolate and deserted!” And all the people assembled against Jeremiah in the house of the LORD.
10AND THEY HEARD [THE] OFFICIALS OF JUDAH <OBJ.> THE THINGS <THE> THESE AND THEY CAME UP FROM [THE] HOUSE OF THE KING [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH AND THEY SAT AT [THE] ENTRANCE OF [THE] GATE OF YAHWEH <THE> NEW 10When the officials of Judah heard these things, they went up from the king’s palace to the house of the LORD and sat there at the entrance of the New Gate.
11AND THEY SAID THE PRIESTS AND THE PROPHETS TO THE OFFICIALS AND TO ALL THE PEOPLE <TO> SAYING A SENTENCE OF DEATH [BELONGS] TO THE MAN <THE> THIS FOR HE HAS PROPHESIED AGAINST THE CITY <THE> THIS JUST AS YOU HAVE HEARD WITH OWN EARS YOUR 11Then the priests and prophets said to the officials and all the people, “This man is worthy of death, for he has prophesied against this city, as you have heard with your own ears!”
12AND HE SAID JEREMIAH TO ALL THE OFFICIALS AND TO ALL THE PEOPLE <TO> SAYING YAHWEH HE SENT ME TO PROPHESY AGAINST THE HOUSE <THE> THIS AND AGAINST THE CITY <THE> THIS <OBJ.> ALL THE WORDS WHICH YOU HAVE HEARD 12But Jeremiah said to all the officials and all the people, “The LORD sent me to prophesy against this house and against this city all the words that you have heard.
13AND THEREFORE MAKE GOOD WAYS YOUR AND DEEDS YOUR AND LISTEN TO [THE] VOICE OF YAHWEH GOD YOUR SO HE MAY REPENT YAHWEH CONCERNING THE CALAMITY WHICH HE HAS SPOKEN ON YOU 13So now, correct your ways and deeds, and obey the voice of the LORD your God, so that He might relent of the disaster He has pronounced against you.
14AND I HERE I [AM] IN HAND YOUR DO TO <THE> ME ACCORDING TO THE GOOD AND ACCORDING TO THE RIGHT IN VIEW YOUR 14As for me, here I am in your hands; do to me what you think is good and right.
15ONLY CERTAINLY <TO KNOW> YOU WILL KNOW THAT EXCEPT [ARE] ABOUT TO PUT TO DEATH YOU <OBJ.> ME FOR BLOOD INNOCENT YOU [ARE] ABOUT TO PUT ON YOURSELVES AND TO THE CITY <THE> THIS AND TO INHABITANTS ITS FOR IN TRUTH HE HAS SENT ME YAHWEH TO YOU TO SPEAK IN EARS YOUR <OBJ.> ALL THE WORDS <THE> THESE 15But know for certain that if you put me to death you will bring innocent blood upon yourselves, upon this city, and upon its residents; for truly the LORD has sent me to speak all these words in your hearing
16AND THEY SAID THE OFFICIALS AND ALL THE PEOPLE TO THE PRIESTS AND TO THE PROPHETS NOT [BELONGS] TO THE MAN <THE> THIS A SENTENCE OF DEATH FOR IN [THE] NAME OF YAHWEH GOD OUR HE HAS SPOKEN TO US Jeremiah Spared from Death 16Then the officials and all the people told the priests and prophets, “This man is not worthy of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the LORD our God!”
17AND THEY AROSE MEN FROM [THE] ELDERS OF THE LAND AND THEY SAID TO ALL [THE] ASSEMBLY OF THE PEOPLE <TO> SAYING 17Some of the elders of the land stood up and said to the whole assembly of the people,
18MICAH THE MORASTHITE HE WAS PROPHESYING IN [THE] DAYS OF HEZEKIAH [THE] KING OF JUDAH AND HE SAID TO ALL [THE] PEOPLE OF JUDAH <TO> SAYING THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS ZION A FIELD IT WILL BE PLOWED AND JERUSALEM HEAPS OF RUINS IT WILL BE AND [THE] MOUNTAIN OF THE HOUSE <INTO> HIGH PLACES OF A FOREST 18“Micah the Moreshite prophesied in the days of Hezekiah king of Judah and told all the people of Judah that this is what the LORD of Hosts says: ‘Zion will be plowed like a field, Jerusalem will become a heap of rubble, and the temple mount a wooded ridge.’*NoteCloseMicah 3:12
19¿ REALLY <TO PUT TO DEATH> DID THEY PUT TO DEATH HIM HEZEKIAH [THE] KING OF JUDAH AND ALL JUDAH ¿ NOT WAS HE FEARING <OBJ.> YAHWEH AND DID HE ENTREAT <OBJ.> [THE] FACE OF YAHWEH AND HE REPENTED YAHWEH CONCERNING THE CALAMITY WHICH HE HAD SPOKEN ON THEM AND WE [ARE] ABOUT TO DO AN EVIL GREAT ON SELVES OUR 19Did Hezekiah king of Judah or anyone else in Judah put him to death? Did Hezekiah not fear the LORD and seek His favor, and did not the LORD relent of the disaster He had pronounced against them? But we are about to bring great harm on ourselves!”
20AND ALSO A MAN HE WAS PROPHESYING IN [THE] NAME OF YAHWEH URIAH [THE] SON OF SHEMAIAH FROM KIRIATH <THE> JEARIM AND HE PROPHESIED ON THE CITY <THE> THIS AND ON THE LAND <THE> THIS LIKE ALL [THE] WORDS OF JEREMIAH The Prophet Uriah 20Now there was another man prophesying in the name of the LORD, Uriah son of Shemaiah from Kiriath-jearim. He prophesied against this city and against this land the same things that Jeremiah did.*NoteCloseLiterally according to all the words of Jeremiah
21AND HE HEARD THE KING JEHOIAKIM AND ALL WARRIORS HIS AND ALL THE OFFICIALS <OBJ.> WORDS HIS AND HE SOUGHT THE KING TO PUT TO DEATH HIM AND HE HEARD URIAH AND HE WAS AFRAID AND HE FLED AND HE WENT EGYPT 21King Jehoiakim and all his mighty men and officials heard his words, and the king sought to put him to death. But when Uriah found out about it, he fled in fear and went to Egypt.
22AND HE SENT THE KING JEHOIAKIM MEN EGYPT <OBJ.> ELNATHAN [THE] SON OF ACHBOR AND MEN WITH HIM TO EGYPT 22Then King Jehoiakim sent men to Egypt: Elnathan son of Achbor along with some other men.
23AND THEY BROUGHT OUT <OBJ.> URIAH FROM EGYPT AND THEY TOOK HIM TO THE KING JEHOIAKIM AND HE STRUCK HIM WITH THE SWORD AND HE THREW <OBJ.> CORPSE HIS TO [THE] GRAVES OF [THE] SONS OF THE PEOPLE 23They brought Uriah out of Egypt and took him to King Jehoiakim, who had him put to the sword and his body thrown into the burial place of the common people.
24NEVERTHELESS [THE] HAND OF AHIKAM [THE] SON OF SHAPHAN IT WAS WITH JEREMIAH TO NOT TO GIVE <OBJ.> HIM IN [THE] HAND OF THE PEOPLE TO PUT TO DEATH HIM 24Nevertheless, Ahikam son of Shaphan supported Jeremiah, so he was not handed over to the people to be put to death.
