TO ME [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH The Wages of the Harlot 1If a man divorces his wife and she leaves him to marry another, can he ever return to her? Would not such a land be completely defiled? But you have played the harlot with many lovers— and you would return to Me?” declares the LORD.
2LIFT UP EYES YOUR ON BARE HEIGHTS AND SEE WHERE? NOT HAVE YOU BEEN LAIN WITH AT ROADS YOU SAT FOR <THE> THEM LIKE AN ARAB IN THE WILDERNESS AND YOU HAVE POLLUTED [THE] LAND BY PROSTITUTION YOUR AND BY WICKEDNESS YOUR 2“Lift up your eyes to the barren heights and see. Is there any place where you have not been violated? You sat beside the highways waiting for your lovers, like a nomad in the desert. You have defiled the land with your prostitution and wickedness.
3AND THEY HAVE BEEN WITHHELD COPIOUS SHOWERS AND SPRING RAIN NOT IT HAS COME AND [THE] FOREHEAD OF A WOMAN A PROSTITUTE IT BELONGED TO <THE> YOU YOU REFUSED TO BE ASHAMED 3Therefore the showers have been withheld, and no spring rains have fallen. Yet you have the brazen look of a prostitute; you refuse to be ashamed.

6AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO ME IN [THE] DAYS OF JOSIAH THE KING ¿ HAVE YOU SEEN [THAT] WHICH SHE HAS DONE [THE] APOSTATE ONE ISRAEL [HAS BEEN] GOING SHE ON EVERY HILL HIGH AND TO UNDER EVERY TREE LUXURIANT AND SHE HAS ACTED AS A PROSTITUTE THERE Judah Follows Israel’s Example 6Now in the days of King Josiah, the LORD said to me, “Have you seen what faithless Israel has done? She has gone up on every high hill and under every green tree to prostitute herself there.
7AND I THOUGHT AFTER HAS DONE SHE <OBJ.> ALL THESE [THINGS] TO ME SHE WILL RETURN AND NOT SHE HAS RETURNED AND SHE SAW TREACHEROUS SISTER HER JUDAH 7I thought that after she had done all these things, she would return to Me. But she did not return, and her unfaithful sister Judah saw it.
8AND I SAW THAT ON ALL CAUSES THAT SHE COMMITTED ADULTERY [THE] APOSTATE ONE ISRAEL I SENT AWAY HER AND I GAVE <OBJ.> [THE] DOCUMENT OF DIVORCE<S> HER TO HER AND NOT SHE WAS AFRAID TREACHEROUS JUDAH SISTER HER AND SHE WENT AND SHE ACTED AS A PROSTITUTE ALSO SHE 8She saw*NoteCloseDSS, one LXX manuscript, and Syriac; MT I saw that because faithless Israel had committed adultery, I gave her a certificate of divorce and sent her away. 9AND IT WAS FROM [THE] LIGHTNESS OF PROSTITUTION HER AND IT WAS POLLUTED <OBJ.> THE LAND AND SHE COMMITTED ADULTERY <OBJ.> <THE> STONE AND <OBJ.> <THE> WOOD 9Indifferent to her own infidelity, Israel had defiled the land and committed adultery with stones and trees.
10AND ALSO FOR ALL THIS NOT SHE RETURNED TO ME TREACHEROUS SISTER HER JUDAH WITH ALL HEART HER THAT EXCEPT WITH DECEPTION [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH 10Yet in spite of all this, her unfaithful sister Judah did not return to Me with all her heart, but only in pretense,” declares the LORD.
11AND HE SAID YAHWEH TO ME SHE HAS MADE APPEAR RIGHTEOUS SELF HER [THE] APOSTATE ONE ISRAEL MORE THAN [THE] TREACHEROUS [ONE] JUDAH A Call to Repentance (Hosea 14:1–3; Zechariah 1:1–6) 11And the LORD said to me, “Faithless Israel has shown herself more righteous than unfaithful Judah.

14RETURN O SONS BACKSLIDING [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH FOR I I AM HUSBAND OVER <THE> YOU AND I WILL TAKE <OBJ.> YOU ONE FROM A CITY AND TWO FROM A CLAN AND I WILL BRING <OBJ.> YOU ZION 14“Return, O faithless children,” declares the LORD, “for I am your master and I will take you— one from a city and two from a family— and bring you to Zion.
15AND I WILL GIVE TO <THE> YOU SHEPHERDS ACCORDING TO OWN HEART MY AND THEY WILL SHEPHERD <OBJ.> YOU KNOWLEDGE AND INSIGHT 15Then I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.”
16AND IT WILL BE THAT YOU WILL MULTIPLY AND YOU WILL BE FRUITFUL IN THE LAND IN THE DAYS <THE> THOSE [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH NOT PEOPLE WILL SAY AGAIN [THE] ARK OF [THE] COVENANT OF YAHWEH AND NOT IT WILL COME UP ON A HEART AND NOT PEOPLE WILL REMEMBER <IN> <THE> IT AND NOT PEOPLE WILL MISS [IT] AND NOT IT WILL BE MADE AGAIN 16“In those days, when you multiply and increase in the land,” declares the LORD, “they will no longer discuss the ark of the covenant of the LORD. It will never come to mind, and no one will remember it or miss it, nor will another one be made.
17AT THE TIME <THE> THAT PEOPLE WILL CALL <TO> JERUSALEM [THE] THRONE OF YAHWEH AND THEY WILL BE COLLECTED TO IT ALL THE NATIONS TO [THE] NAME OF YAHWEH TO JERUSALEM AND NOT THEY WILL WALK AGAIN AFTER [THE] STUBBORNNESS OF HEART THEIR <THE> EVIL 17At that time they will call Jerusalem The Throne of the LORD, and all the nations will be gathered in Jerusalem to honor the name of the LORD. They will no longer follow the stubbornness of their evil hearts.
18IN THE DAYS <THE> THOSE THEY WILL WALK [THE] HOUSE OF JUDAH WITH [THE] HOUSE OF ISRAEL SO THEY MAY COME TOGETHER FROM A LAND OF [THE] NORTH TO THE LAND WHICH I GAVE AS AN INHERITANCE <OBJ.> ANCESTORS YOUR 18In those days the house of Judah will walk with the house of Israel, and they will come together from the land of the north to the land that I gave to your fathers as an inheritance.
19AND I I THOUGHT HOW! I WILL SET YOU AMONG THE SONS SO I MAY GIVE TO <THE> YOU A LAND OF DESIRE AN INHERITANCE OF BEAUTY OF BEAUTIES OF NATIONS AND I THOUGHT FATHER MY YOU WILL CALL <TO> <THE> ME AND FROM AFTER ME NOT YOU WILL TURN AWAY 19Then I said, ‘How I long to make you My sons and give you a desirable land, the most beautiful inheritance of all the nations!’ I thought you would call Me ‘Father’ and never turn away from following Me.
20NEVERTHELESS SHE DEALS TREACHEROUSLY A WOMAN FROM COMPANION HER SO YOU HAVE DEALT TREACHEROUSLY WITH <THE> ME O HOUSE OF ISRAEL [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH 20But as a woman may betray her husband, so you have betrayed Me, O house of Israel,” declares the LORD.
21A SOUND ON BARE HEIGHTS [IS] HEARD [THE] WEEPING OF [THE] SUPPLICATIONS OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL FOR THEY HAVE PERVERTED <OBJ.> WAY THEIR THEY HAVE FORGOTTEN <OBJ.> YAHWEH GOD THEIR 21A voice is heard on the barren heights, the children of Israel weeping and begging for mercy, because they have perverted their ways and forgotten the LORD their God.
22RETURN O SONS BACKSLIDING I WILL HEAL APOSTASIES YOUR HERE [ARE] WE WE HAVE COME TO <THE> YOU FOR YOU [ARE] YAHWEH GOD OUR 22“Return, O faithless children, and I will heal your faithlessness.” “Here we are. We come to You, for You are the LORD our God.
23TRULY TO <THE> DECEPTION FROM [THE] HILLS A TUMULT MOUNTAINS TRULY [IS] IN YAHWEH GOD OUR [THE] SALVATION OF ISRAEL 23Surely deception comes from the hills, and commotion from the mountains. Surely the salvation of Israel is in the LORD our God.
24AND THE SHAMEFUL THING IT HAS CONSUMED <OBJ.> [THE] TOIL OF ANCESTORS OUR SINCE YOUTH<S> OUR <OBJ.> FLOCK[S] THEIR AND <OBJ.> HERD[S] THEIR <OBJ.> SONS THEIR AND <OBJ.> DAUGHTERS THEIR 24From our youth, that shameful god has consumed what our fathers have worked for— their flocks and herds, their sons and daughters.
25LET US LIE DOWN IN SHAME OUR AND LET IT COVER US DISGRACE OUR FOR TO YAHWEH GOD OUR WE HAVE SINNED WE AND ANCESTORS OUR SINCE YOUTH<S> OUR AND UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS AND NOT WE HAVE LISTENED TO [THE] VOICE OF YAHWEH GOD OUR 25Let us lie down in our shame; let our disgrace cover us.
