32AND JEREMIAH HE TOOK A SCROLL ANOTHER AND HE GAVE IT TO BARUCH [THE] SON OF NERIAH THE SCRIBE AND HE WROTE ON IT FROM [THE] MOUTH OF JEREMIAH <OBJ.> ALL [THE] WORDS OF THE SCROLL WHICH HE HAD BURNED JEHOIAKIM [THE] KING OF JUDAH IN THE FIRE AND AGAIN IT WAS ADDED TO THEM WORDS MANY LIKE THEM 32Then Jeremiah took another scroll and gave it to the scribe Baruch son of Neriah, and at Jeremiah’s dictation he wrote on it all the words of the scroll that Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire. And many similar words were added to them.
1AND HE REIGNED KING ZEDEKIAH [THE] SON OF JOSIAH IN PLACE OF CONIAH [THE] SON OF JEHOIAKIM WHOM HE MADE KING NEBUCHADNEZZAR [THE] KING OF BABYLON IN [THE] LAND OF JUDAH Jeremiah Warns Zedekiah 1Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made Zedekiah son of Josiah the king of Judah, and he reigned in place of Coniah*NoteCloseConiah is a variant of Jehoiachin. son of Jehoiakim.
2AND NOT HE LISTENED HE AND SERVANTS HIS AND [THE] PEOPLE OF THE LAND TO [THE] WORDS OF YAHWEH WHICH HE SPOKE BY [THE] HAND OF JEREMIAH THE PROPHET 2But he and his officers and the people of the land refused to obey the words that the LORD had spoken through Jeremiah the prophet.
3AND HE SENT THE KING ZEDEKIAH <OBJ.> JEHUCAL [THE] SON OF SHELEMIAH AND <OBJ.> ZEPHANIAH [THE] SON OF MAASEIAH THE PRIEST TO JEREMIAH THE PROPHET <TO> SAYING PRAY PLEASE FOR US TO YAHWEH GOD OUR 3Yet King Zedekiah sent Jehucal*NoteCloseJehucal is a variant of Jucal; see Jeremiah 38:1. son of Shelemiah and Zephaniah the priest, the son of Maaseiah, to Jeremiah the prophet with the message, “Please pray to the LORD our God for us!”
4AND JEREMIAH [WAS] COMING AND [WAS] GOING OUT IN AMONG THE PEOPLE AND NOT THEY HAD PUT <OBJ.> HIM [THE] HOUSE OF <THE> IMPRISONMENT 4Now Jeremiah was free to come and go among the people, for they had not yet put him in prison.
5AND [THE] ARMY OF PHARAOH IT HAD COME FORTH FROM EGYPT AND THEY HAD HEARD THE CHALDEANS WHO WERE LAYING SIEGE ON JERUSALEM <OBJ.> REPORT THEIR AND THEY HAD TAKEN THEMSELVES UP FROM ON JERUSALEM 5Pharaoh’s army had left Egypt, and when the Chaldeans*NoteCloseThat is, the Babylonians; also in verses 8, 9, 13, and 14 who were besieging Jerusalem heard the report, they withdrew from Jerusalem.
6AND IT CAME [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH TO JEREMIAH THE PROPHET <TO> SAYING 6Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah the prophet:
7THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL THUS YOU WILL SAY TO [THE] KING OF JUDAH WHO SENT <OBJ.> YOU TO ME TO CONSULT ME THERE! [THE] ARMY OF PHARAOH WHICH WAS COMING OUT TO <THE> YOU TO HELP [IS] ABOUT TO RETURN TO OWN LAND ITS EGYPT 7“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says that you are to tell the king of Judah, who sent you to Me: Behold, Pharaoh’s army, which has marched out to help you, will go back to its own land of Egypt.
8AND THEY WILL RETURN THE CHALDEANS AND THEY WILL FIGHT ON THE CITY <THE> THIS AND THEY WILL CAPTURE IT AND THEY WILL BURN IT WITH <THE> FIRE 8Then the Chaldeans will return and fight against this city. They will capture it and burn it down.
9THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH MAY NOT YOU DECEIVE SELVES YOUR <TO> SAYING CERTAINLY <TO GO> THEY WILL GO FROM ON <THE> US THE CHALDEANS FOR NOT THEY WILL GO 9This is what the LORD says: Do not deceive yourselves by saying, ‘The Chaldeans will go away for good for they will not!
10THAT EXCEPT YOU STRUCK DOWN ALL [THE] ARMY OF [THE] CHALDEANS WHO ARE FIGHTING WITH YOU AND THEY SURVIVED AMONG <THE> THEM MEN PIERCED THROUGH EVERYONE IN TENT HIS THEY WILL ARISE AND THEY WILL BURN <OBJ.> THE CITY <THE> THIS WITH <THE> FIRE 10Indeed, if you were to strike down the entire army of the Chaldeans that is fighting against you, and only wounded men remained in their tents, they would still get up and burn this city down
11AND IT WAS WHEN HAD TAKEN ITSELF UP [THE] ARMY OF THE CHALDEANS FROM ON JERUSALEM <FROM> BECAUSE OF [THE] ARMY OF PHARAOH Jeremiah Imprisoned 11When the Chaldean army withdrew from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh’s army,
12AND HE WENT OUT JEREMIAH FROM JERUSALEM TO GO [THE] LAND OF BENJAMIN TO RECEIVE A PORTION FROM THERE IN AMONG THE PEOPLE 12Jeremiah started to leave Jerusalem to go to the land of Benjamin to claim his portion there*NoteCloseLiterally to divide from there among the people.
13AND IT WAS HE [WAS] AT [THE] GATE OF BENJAMIN AND [WAS] THERE A CAPTAIN OF [THE] GUARD AND NAME HIS [WAS] IRIJAH [THE] SON OF SHELEMIAH [THE] SON OF HANANIAH AND HE ARRESTED <OBJ.> JEREMIAH THE PROPHET <TO> SAYING TO THE CHALDEANS YOU [ARE] FALLING 13But when he reached the Gate of Benjamin, the captain of the guard whose name was Irijah son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah, seized him and said, “You are deserting to the Chaldeans!”
14AND HE SAID JEREMIAH A LIE NOT I [AM] FALLING ON THE CHALDEANS AND NOT HE LISTENED TO HIM AND HE SEIZED IRIJAH <IN> JEREMIAH AND HE BROUGHT HIM TO THE OFFICIALS 14“That is a lie,” Jeremiah replied. “I am not deserting to the Chaldeans!” But Irijah would not listen to him; instead, he arrested Jeremiah and took him to the officials.
15AND THEY WERE ANGRY THE OFFICIALS TOWARDS JEREMIAH AND THEY STRUCK <OBJ.> HIM AND THEY PUT <OBJ.> HIM [THE] HOUSE OF <THE> FETTER[S] [THE] HOUSE OF JONATHAN THE SCRIBE FOR <OBJ.> IT THEY HAD MADE INTO [THE] HOUSE OF <THE> IMPRISONMENT 15The officials were angry with Jeremiah, and they beat him and placed him in jail in the house of Jonathan the scribe, for it had been made into a prison.
16FOR HE WENT JEREMIAH INTO [THE] HOUSE OF THE CISTERN AND INTO THE CELL AND HE REMAINED THERE JEREMIAH DAYS MANY 16So Jeremiah went into a cell in the dungeon and remained there a long time.
17AND HE SENT THE KING ZEDEKIAH AND HE TOOK HIM AND HE ASKED HIM THE KING IN HOUSE HIS IN <THE> SECRECY AND HE SAID ¿ [IS] THERE A WORD FROM WITH YAHWEH AND HE SAID JEREMIAH THERE IS AND HE SAID IN [THE] HAND OF [THE] KING OF BABYLON YOU WILL BE GIVEN 17Later, King Zedekiah sent for Jeremiah and received him in his palace, where he asked him privately, “Is there a word from the LORD?” “There is,” Jeremiah replied. “You will be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.”
18AND HE SAID JEREMIAH TO THE KING ZEDEKIAH WHAT? HAVE I SINNED TO YOU AND TO SERVANTS YOUR AND TO THE PEOPLE <THE> THIS THAT YOU HAVE PUT <OBJ.> ME INTO [THE] HOUSE OF <THE> IMPRISONMENT 18Then Jeremiah asked King Zedekiah, “How have I sinned against you or your servants or these people, that you have put me in prison?
19AND WHERE? [ARE] PROPHETS YOUR WHO THEY PROPHESIED TO <THE> YOU <TO> SAYING NOT HE WILL COME [THE] KING OF BABYLON ON YOU AND ON THE LAND <THE> THIS 19Where are your prophets who prophesied to you, claiming, ‘The king of Babylon will not come against you or this land’?
20AND THEREFORE LISTEN PLEASE O LORD MY THE KING MAY IT FALL PLEASE SUPPLICATION MY <TO> BEFORE YOU AND MAY NOT YOU MAKE GO BACK ME [THE] HOUSE OF JONATHAN THE SCRIBE AND NOT I WILL DIE THERE 20But now please listen, O my lord the king. May my petition come before you. Do not send me back to the house of Jonathan the scribe, or I will die there.”
21AND HE COMMANDED THE KING ZEDEKIAH AND THEY DEPOSITED <OBJ.> JEREMIAH IN [THE] COURTYARD OF THE GUARD AND THEY GAVE TO <THE> HIM A ROUND LOAF OF BREAD TO THE DAY FROM [THE] STREET OF THE BAKERS UNTIL WAS FINISHED ALL THE BREAD FROM THE CITY AND HE REMAINED JEREMIAH IN [THE] COURTYARD OF THE GUARD 21So King Zedekiah gave orders for Jeremiah to be placed in the courtyard of the guard and given a loaf of bread daily from the street of the bakers, until all the bread in the city was gone. So Jeremiah remained in the courtyard of the guard.
