1 THE WORD WHICH IT CAME TO JEREMIAH CONCERNING ALL THE JEWS WHO WERE DWELLING IN [THE] LAND OF EGYPT WHO WERE DWELLING IN MIGDOL AND IN TAHPANHES AND IN MEMPHIS AND IN [THE] LAND OF PATHROS <TO> SAYING
Judgment on the Jews in Egypt
1 This is the word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the Jews living in the land of Egypt — in Migdol, Tahpanhes, and Memphis — and in the land of Pathros:
2 THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL YOU YOU HAVE SEEN <OBJ.> ALL THE CALAMITY WHICH I BROUGHT ON JERUSALEM AND ON ALL [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH AND THERE! THEY [ARE] A RUIN THE DAY <THE> THIS AND THERE NOT IN <THE> THEM [IS] AN INHABITANT
2 “This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: You have seen all the disaster that I brought against Jerusalem and all the cities of Judah; and behold, they lie today in ruins and desolation
3 <FROM> BECAUSE OF WICKEDNESS THEIR WHICH THEY DID TO PROVOKE TO ANGER ME BY GOING TO MAKE SMOKE TO SERVE <TO> GODS OTHER WHICH NOT THEY HAD KNOWN THEM THEY YOU AND ANCESTORS YOUR
3 because of the evil they have done.
They provoked Me to anger by continuing to burn incense and to serve other gods that neither they nor you nor your fathers ever knew.
4 AND I SENT TO YOU <OBJ.> ALL SERVANTS MY THE PROPHETS RISING EARLY AND SENDING <TO> SAYING MAY NOT PLEASE YOU DO <OBJ.> [THE] THING OF <THE> ABOMINATION <THE> THIS WHICH I HATE
4 Yet I sent you all My servants the prophets again and again, saying: ‘Do not do this detestable thing that I hate.’
5 AND NOT THEY LISTENED AND NOT THEY INCLINED <OBJ.> EAR THEIR TO TURN AWAY FROM WICKEDNESS THEIR TO NOT TO MAKE SMOKE TO GODS OTHER
5 But they did not listen or incline their ears; they did not turn from their wickedness or stop burning incense to other gods.
6 AND IT POURED FORTH RAGE MY AND ANGER MY AND IT BURNED IN [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH AND IN [THE] STREETS OF JERUSALEM AND THEY BECAME <INTO> A RUIN <INTO> A DESOLATION AS THE DAY <THE> THIS
6 Therefore My wrath and anger poured out and burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem, so that they have become the desolate ruin they are today.
7 AND THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF HOSTS [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL <TO> WHY? [ARE] YOU DOING HARM GREAT TO SELVES YOUR TO CUT OFF TO <THE> YOURSELVES MAN AND WOMAN CHILD AND SUCKLING-CHILD FROM [THE] MIDST OF JUDAH TO NOT TO LEAVE FOR <THE> YOURSELVES A REMNANT
7 So now, this is what the LORD God of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Why are you doing such great harm to yourselves by cutting off from Judah man and woman, child and infant, leaving yourselves without a remnant?
8 BY PROVOKING TO ANGER ME BY [THE] DEEDS OF HANDS YOUR BY MAKING SMOKE TO GODS OTHER IN [THE] LAND OF EGYPT WHERE YOU [HAVE] COME TO SOJOURN THERE SO AS TO CUT OFF TO <THE> YOURSELVES AND SO AS TO BECOME YOU <INTO> A CURSE AND <INTO> A REPROACH AMONG ALL [THE] NATIONS OF THE EARTH
8 Why are you provoking Me to anger by the work of your hands by burning incense to other gods in the land of Egypt, where you have gone to reside?
As a result, you will be cut off and will become an object of cursing and reproach among all the nations of the earth.
9 ¿ HAVE YOU FORGOTTEN <OBJ.> [THE] WICKED DEEDS OF ANCESTORS YOUR AND <OBJ.> [THE] WICKED DEEDS OF [THE] KINGS OF JUDAH AND <OBJ.> [THE] WICKED DEEDS OF WIVES HIS AND <OBJ.> WICKED DEEDS YOUR AND <OBJ.> [THE] WICKED DEEDS OF WIVES YOUR WHICH THEY DID IN [THE] LAND OF JUDAH AND IN [THE] STREETS OF JERUSALEM
9 Have you forgotten the wickedness of your fathers and of the kings of Judah and their wives, as well as the wickedness that you and your wives committed in the land of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
10 NOT THEY HAVE BEEN MADE CONTRITE UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS AND NOT THEY HAVE FEARED AND NOT THEY HAVE WALKED IN LAW MY AND IN DECREES MY WHICH I SET <TO> BEFORE YOU AND <TO> BEFORE ANCESTORS YOUR
10 To this day they have not humbled themselves or shown reverence, nor have they followed My instruction or the statutes that I set before you and your fathers.
11 <TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO SET FACE MY ON <THE> YOU FOR HARM AND TO CUT OFF <OBJ.> ALL JUDAH
11 Therefore this is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: I will set My face to bring disaster and to cut off all Judah.
12 AND I WILL TAKE AWAY <OBJ.> [THE] REMNANT OF JUDAH WHO THEY SET FACES THEIR TO GO [THE] LAND OF EGYPT TO SOJOURN THERE AND THEY WILL MEET THEIR END EVERYONE IN [THE] LAND OF EGYPT THEY WILL FALL BY THE SWORD BY <THE> FAMINE THEY WILL MEET THEIR END FROM [THE] SMALL AND UNTO [THE] GREAT BY THE SWORD AND BY <THE> FAMINE THEY WILL DIE AND THEY WILL BECOME <INTO> AN CURSE <INTO> A HORROR AND <INTO> A CURSE AND <INTO> A REPROACH
12 And I will take away the remnant of Judah who have resolved to go to the land of Egypt to reside there; they will meet their end. They will all fall by the sword or be consumed by famine. From the least to the greatest, they will die by sword or famine; and they will become an object of cursing and horror, of vilification and reproach.
13 AND I WILL VISIT [JUDGMENT] ON THOSE [WHO] DWELL IN [THE] LAND OF EGYPT JUST AS I VISITED [JUDGMENT] ON JERUSALEM BY THE SWORD BY <THE> FAMINE AND BY <THE> PESTILENCE
13 I will punish those who live in the land of Egypt, just as I punished Jerusalem, by sword and famine and plague,
14 AND NOT HE WILL BELONG AN ESCAPEE AND A SURVIVOR TO [THE] REMNANT OF JUDAH WHO WENT TO SOJOURN THERE IN [THE] LAND OF EGYPT AND TO RETURN [THE] LAND OF JUDAH WHERE THEY [ARE] LIFTING UP <OBJ.> DESIRE THEIR TO RETURN TO DWELL THERE FOR NOT THEY WILL RETURN THAT EXCEPT FUGITIVES
14 so that none of the remnant of Judah who have gone to reside in Egypt will escape or survive to return to the land of Judah, where they long to return and live; for none will return except a few fugitives.”
15 AND THEY ANSWERED <OBJ.> JEREMIAH ALL THE MEN WHO KNEW THAT [WERE] MAKING SMOKE WIVES THEIR TO GODS OTHER AND ALL THE WOMEN WHO WERE STANDING BY A COMPANY GREAT AND ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WERE DWELLING IN [THE] LAND OF EGYPT IN PATHROS <TO> SAYING
The Stubbornness of the People
15 Then all the men who knew that their wives were burning incense to other gods, and all the women standing by— a great assembly— along with all the people living in the land of Egypt and in Pathros, said to Jeremiah,
16 THE WORD WHICH YOU HAVE SPOKEN TO US IN [THE] NAME OF YAHWEH NOT WE [ARE] ABOUT TO LISTEN TO YOU
16 “As for the word you have spoken to us in the name of the LORD, we will not listen to you!
17 FOR CERTAINLY <TO DO> WE WILL DO <OBJ.> EVERY <THE> THING WHICH IT HAS GONE OUT FROM MOUTH OUR TO MAKE SMOKE TO [THE] QUEEN OF THE HEAVENS AND TO POUR OUT TO <THE> HER DRINK OFFERINGS JUST AS WE HAVE DONE WE AND ANCESTORS OUR KINGS OUR AND OFFICIALS OUR IN [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH AND IN [THE] STREETS OF JERUSALEM AND WE WERE SATISFIED FOOD AND WE WERE GOOD AND DISTRESS NOT WE SAW
17 Instead, we will do everything we vowed to do: We will burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and offer drink offerings to her, just as we, our fathers, our kings, and our officials did in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem.
At that time we had plenty of food and good things, and we saw no disaster.
18 AND FROM THEN WE CEASED TO MAKE SMOKE TO [THE] QUEEN OF THE HEAVENS AND TO POUR OUT TO <THE> HER DRINK OFFERINGS WE HAVE LACKED EVERYTHING AND BY THE SWORD AND BY THE FAMINE WE HAVE MET OUR END
18 But from the time we stopped burning incense to the Queen of Heaven and pouring out drink offerings to her, we have lacked everything and have been perishing by sword and famine.”
19 AND IF WE [WERE] MAKING SMOKE TO [THE] QUEEN OF THE HEAVENS AND TO POUR OUT TO <THE> HER DRINK OFFERINGS ¿ <FROM> WITHOUT HUSBANDS OUR DID WE MAKE FOR <THE> HER CAKES TO FORM IMAGE HER AND TO POUR OUT TO <THE> HER DRINK OFFERINGS
19 “Moreover,” said the women, “when we burned incense to the Queen of Heaven and poured out drink offerings to her, was it without our husbands’ knowledge that we made sacrificial cakes in her image and poured out drink offerings to her?”
20 AND HE SAID JEREMIAH TO ALL THE PEOPLE TO THE MEN AND TO THE WOMEN AND TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAD ANSWERED <OBJ.> HIM A WORD <TO> SAYING
Calamity for the Jews
20 Then Jeremiah said to all the people both men and women, who were answering him
21 ¿ NOT <OBJ.> THE INCENSE WHICH YOU MADE SMOKE IN [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH AND IN [THE] STREETS OF JERUSALEM YOU AND ANCESTORS YOUR KINGS YOUR AND OFFICIALS YOUR AND [THE] PEOPLE OF THE LAND <OBJ.> THEM DID HE REMEMBER YAHWEH AND DID IT COME UP ON HEART HIS
21 “As for the incense you burned in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem— you, your fathers, your kings, your officials, and the people of the land did the LORD not remember and bring this to mind?
22 AND NOT HE WAS ABLE YAHWEH STILL TO ENDURE <FROM> BECAUSE OF [THE] WICKEDNESS OF DEEDS YOUR <FROM> BECAUSE OF THE ABOMINATIONS WHICH YOU DID AND IT HAS BECOME LAND YOUR <INTO> A DESOLATION AND <INTO> A WASTE AND <INTO> A CURSE FROM NOT INHABITANT AS THE DAY <THE> THIS
22 So the LORD could no longer endure the evil deeds and detestable acts you committed, and your land became a desolation, a horror, and an object of cursing, without inhabitant, as it is this day.
23 <FROM> BECAUSE THAT YOU MADE SMOKE AND THAT YOU HAD SINNED TO YAHWEH AND NOT YOU LISTENED TO [THE] VOICE OF YAHWEH AND IN LAW HIS AND IN DECREES HIS AND IN TESTIMONIES HIS NOT YOU WALKED THERE- -FORE IT HAS HAPPENED TO <OBJ.> YOU THE CALAMITY <THE> THIS AS THE DAY <THE> THIS
23 Because you burned incense and sinned against the LORD and did not obey the voice of the LORD or walk in His instruction, His statutes, and His testimonies, this disaster has befallen you, as you see today
24 AND HE SAID JEREMIAH TO ALL THE PEOPLE AND TO ALL THE WOMEN HEAR [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH O ALL JUDAH WHICH [IS] IN [THE] LAND OF EGYPT
24 Then Jeremiah said to all the people, including all the women, “Hear the word of the LORD, all those of Judah who are in the land of Egypt.
25 THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL <TO> SAYING YOU AND WIVES YOUR AND YOU HAVE SPOKEN WITH MOUTH YOUR AND WITH HANDS YOUR YOU HAVE FULFILLED <TO> SAYING CERTAINLY <TO PERFORM> WE WILL PERFORM <OBJ.> VOWS OUR WHICH WE HAVE VOWED TO MAKE SMOKE TO [THE] QUEEN OF THE HEAVENS AND TO POUR OUT TO <THE> HER DRINK OFFERINGS CERTAINLY <TO CARRY OUT> YOU WILL CARRY OUT <OBJ.> VOWS YOUR AND CERTAINLY <TO PERFORM> YOU WILL PERFORM <OBJ.> VOWS YOUR
25 This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: As for you and your wives, you have spoken with your mouths and fulfilled with your hands your words: ‘We will surely perform our vows that we have made to burn incense to the Queen of Heaven and to pour out drink offerings to her.’ Go ahead, then, do what you have promised! Keep your vows!
26 <TO> THEREFORE HEAR [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH O ALL JUDAH WHO ARE DWELLING IN [THE] LAND OF EGYPT HERE I I SWEAR BY OWN NAME MY <THE> GREAT HE SAYS YAHWEH IF IT WILL BE AGAIN NAME MY NAMED BY [THE] MOUTH OF ANY PERSON OF JUDAH [WHO] SAYS [BY] [THE] LIFE OF [THE] LORD YAHWEH IN ALL [THE] LAND OF EGYPT
26 Nevertheless, hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah living in Egypt: Behold, I have sworn by My great name, says the LORD, that never again will any man of Judah living in the land of Egypt invoke My name or say, ‘As surely as the Lord GOD lives.’
27 HERE I [AM] WATCHING OVER THEM FOR HARM AND NOT FOR GOOD AND THEY WILL MEET THEIR END EVERY PERSON OF JUDAH WHO [IS] IN [THE] LAND OF EGYPT BY THE SWORD AND BY <THE> FAMINE UNTIL COME TO AN END THEY
27 I am watching over them for harm and not for good, and every man of Judah who is in the land of Egypt will meet his end by sword or famine, until they are finished off.
28 AND ESCAPEES OF [THE] SWORD THEY WILL RETURN ! FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT [THE] LAND OF JUDAH MEN OF NUMBER AND THEY WILL KNOW ALL [THE] REMNANT OF JUDAH WHO WENT TO [THE] LAND OF EGYPT TO SOJOURN THERE [THE] WORD OF WHOM? WILL IT BE ESTABLISHED FROM ME AND FROM <THE> THEM
28 Those who escape the sword will return from Egypt to Judah, few in number, and the whole remnant of Judah who went to dwell in the land of Egypt will know whose word will stand, Mine or theirs!
29 AND THIS FOR <THE> YOU [WILL BE] THE SIGN [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH THAT [AM] ABOUT TO VISIT [JUDGMENT] I ON YOU IN THE PLACE <THE> THIS SO THAT YOU MAY KNOW THAT CERTAINLY <TO BE ESTABLISHED> THEY WILL BE ESTABLISHED WORDS MY ON YOU FOR HARM
29 This will be a sign to you that I will punish you in this place, declares the LORD, so that you may know that My threats of harm against you will surely stand.
30 THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH HERE I [AM] ABOUT TO GIVE <OBJ.> PHARAOH HOPHRA [THE] KING OF EGYPT IN [THE] HAND OF ENEMIES HIS AND IN [THE] HAND OF [THOSE WHO] SEEK <OF> LIFE HIS JUST AS I GAVE <OBJ.> ZEDEKIAH [THE] KING OF JUDAH IN [THE] HAND OF NEBUCHADNEZZAR [THE] KING OF BABYLON ENEMY HIS AND [ONE WHO] SOUGHT LIFE HIS
30 This is what the LORD says: Behold, I will deliver Pharaoh Hophra king of Egypt into the hands of his enemies who seek his life, just as I delivered Zedekiah king of Judah into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, the enemy who was seeking his life.”
