30SILVER REJECTED PEOPLE CALLED <TO> THEM FOR HE HAS REJECTED YAHWEH <IN> <THE> THEM 30They are called rejected silver, because the LORD has rejected them.”
1THE WORD WHICH IT CAME TO JEREMIAH FROM WITH YAHWEH <TO> SAYING Jeremiah’s Message at the Temple Gate 1This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
2STAND IN [THE] GATE OF [THE] HOUSE OF YAHWEH AND YOU WILL PROCLAIM THERE <OBJ.> THE WORD <THE> THIS AND YOU WILL SAY HEAR [THE] WORD OF YAHWEH O ALL JUDAH WHO COME IN THE GATES <THE> THESE TO BOW DOWN TO YAHWEH 2“Stand in the gate of the house of the LORD and proclaim this message: Hear the word of the LORD, all you people of Judah who enter through these gates to worship the LORD.
3THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL MAKE GOOD WAYS YOUR AND DEEDS YOUR SO LET ME CAUSE TO DWELL <OBJ.> YOU IN THE PLACE <THE> THIS 3Thus says the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel: Correct your ways and deeds, and I will let you live in this place.
4MAY NOT YOU TRUST FOR <THE> YOURSELVES TO <THE> WORDS OF <THE> DECEPTION <TO> SAYING [THE] TEMPLE OF YAHWEH [THE] TEMPLE OF YAHWEH [ARE] [THE] TEMPLE OF YAHWEH THEY 4Do not trust in deceptive words, saying: ‘This is the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD.’
5THAT EXCEPT CERTAINLY <TO MAKE GOOD> YOU WILL MAKE GOOD <OBJ.> WAYS YOUR AND <OBJ.> DEEDS YOUR <IF> CERTAINLY [IF] <TO DO> YOU WILL DO JUSTICE BETWEEN EVERYONE AND BETWEEN NEIGHBOR HIS 5For if you really correct your ways and deeds, if you act justly toward one another,
6[THE] SOJOURNER [THE] FATHERLESS AND [THE] WIDOW NOT YOU MUST OPPRESS AND BLOOD INNOCENT MAY NOT YOU SHED IN THE PLACE <THE> THIS AND AFTER GODS OTHER NOT YOU MUST WALK FOR HARM OF YOU 6if you no longer oppress the foreigner and the fatherless and the widow, and if you no longer shed innocent blood in this place or follow other gods to your own harm
7AND I WILL CAUSE TO DWELL <OBJ.> YOU IN THE PLACE <THE> THIS IN THE LAND WHICH I GAVE TO ANCESTORS YOUR <TO> FROM ANTIQUITY AND UNTIL PERPETUITY 7then I will let you live in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever.
8HERE! YOU [ARE] RELYING FOR <THE> YOURSELVES ON <THE> WORDS OF <THE> DECEPTION TO NOT TO PROFIT 8But look, you keep trusting in deceptive words to no avail.
9¿ WILL YOU STEAL WILL YOU MURDER? AND WILL YOU COMMIT ADULTERY? AND WILL YOU SWEAR? TO <THE> FALSEHOOD AND WILL YOU MAKE SMOKE? TO <THE> BAAL AND WILL YOU WALK? AFTER GODS OTHER WHICH NOT YOU HAVE KNOWN 9Will you steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury, burn incense to Baal, and follow other gods that you have not known,
10AND YOU WILL COME AND YOU WILL STAND <TO> BEFORE ME IN THE HOUSE <THE> THIS WHICH IT IS CALLED NAME MY ON IT AND YOU WILL SAY WE ARE DELIVERED SO AS TO DO <OBJ.> ALL THE ABOMINATIONS <THE> THESE 10and then come and stand before Me in this house, which bears My Name, and say, ‘We are delivered, so we can continue with all these abominations’?
11¿ A DEN OF ROBBERS HAS IT BECOME THE HOUSE <THE> THIS WHICH IT IS CALLED NAME MY ON IT IN VIEW YOUR ALSO I HERE! I HAVE SEEN [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH 11Has this house, which bears My Name, become a den of robbers*NoteCloseCited in Matthew 21:13, Mark 11:17, and Luke 19:46 in your sight? Yes, I too have seen it, declares the LORD.
12THAT GO PLEASE TO PLACE MY WHICH [WAS] IN SHILOH WHERE I CAUSED TO DWELL NAME MY THERE AT THE FORMER [TIME] AND SEE <OBJ.> [THAT] WHICH I DID TO <THE> IT <FROM> BECAUSE OF [THE] WICKEDNESS OF PEOPLE MY ISRAEL 12But go now to the place in Shiloh where I first made a dwelling for My Name, and see what I did to it because of the wickedness of My people Israel.
13AND THEREFORE BECAUSE DID YOU <OBJ.> ALL THE DEEDS <THE> THESE [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH AND I SPOKE TO YOU RISING EARLY AND SPEAKING AND NOT YOU LISTENED AND I CALLED <OBJ.> YOU AND NOT YOU ANSWERED 13And now, because you have done all these things, declares the LORD, and because I have spoken to you again and again*NoteCloseLiterally I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking, but you would not listen, and I have called to you but you would not answer,
14AND I WILL DO TO THE HOUSE WHICH IT IS CALLED NAME MY ON IT WHICH YOU [ARE] TRUSTING IN <THE> IT AND TO THE PLACE WHICH I GAVE TO YOU AND TO ANCESTORS YOUR JUST AS I DID TO SHILOH 14therefore what I did to Shiloh I will now do to the house that bears My Name, the house in which you trust the place that I gave to you and your fathers
15AND I WILL CAST OUT <OBJ.> YOU FROM ON FACE MY JUST AS I CAST OUT <OBJ.> ALL RELATIVES YOUR <OBJ.> ALL [THE] OFFSPRING OF EPHRAIM 15And I will cast you out of My presence, just as I have cast out all your brothers, all the descendants of Ephraim.
16AND YOU MAY NOT YOU PRAY FOR THE PEOPLE <THE> THIS AND MAY NOT YOU LIFT UP FOR THEM A CRY OF ENTREATY AND A PRAYER AND MAY NOT YOU ENTREAT <IN> <THE> ME FOR NOT I [WILL BE] HEARING <OBJ.> YOU Judah’s Idolatry Persists 16As for you, do not pray for these people, do not offer a plea or petition on their behalf, and do not beg Me, for I will not listen to you.
17¿ [ARE] NOT YOU SEEING WHAT? [ARE] THEY DOING IN [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH AND IN [THE] STREETS OF JERUSALEM 17Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
18THE CHILDREN [ARE] GATHERING WOOD<S> AND THE FATHERS [ARE] KINDLING <OBJ.> THE FIRE AND THE WOMEN [ARE] KNEADING DOUGH TO MAKE CAKES FOR [THE] QUEEN OF THE HEAVENS AND THEY ARE POURING OUT DRINK OFFERINGS TO GODS OTHER SO AS TO PROVOKE TO ANGER ME 18The sons gather wood, the fathers light the fire, and the women knead the dough to make cakes for the Queen of Heaven; they pour out drink offerings to other gods to provoke Me to anger.
19¿ <OBJ.> ME [ARE] THEY PROVOKING [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH ¿ NOT <OBJ.> THEMSELVES FOR [THE] SAKE OF [THE] SHAME OF FACES THEIR 19But am I the One they are provoking? declares the LORD. Is it not themselves they spite, to their own shame?
20<TO> THEREFORE THUS HE SAYS [THE] LORD YAHWEH HERE! ANGER MY AND RAGE MY [ARE] ABOUT TO BE POURED OUT AGAINST THE PLACE <THE> THIS ON <THE> HUMANKIND AND ON THE ANIMAL[S] AND ON [THE] TREE[S] OF THE FIELD AND ON [THE] FRUIT OF THE GROUND AND IT WILL BURN AND NOT IT WILL BE QUENCHED 20Therefore this is what the Lord GOD says: Behold, My anger and My fury will be poured out on this place, on man and beast, on the trees of the field and the produce of the land, and it will burn and not be extinguished.
21THUS HE SAYS YAHWEH OF HOSTS [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL BURNT OFFERINGS YOUR ADD TO SACRIFICES YOUR AND EAT MEAT 21This is what the LORD of Hosts, the God of Israel, says: Add your burnt offerings to your other sacrifices and eat the meat yourselves!
22FOR NOT I SPOKE WITH ANCESTORS YOUR AND NOT I COMMANDED THEM ON [THE] DAY BROUGHT OUT I <OBJ.> THEM FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT ON MATTERS OF BURNT OFFERING AND SACRIFICE 22For when I brought your fathers out of the land of Egypt, I did not merely command them about burnt offerings and sacrifices,
23THAT EXCEPT <OBJ.> THE MATTER <THE> THIS I COMMANDED <OBJ.> THEM <TO> SAYING LISTEN TO VOICE MY AND I WILL BECOME FOR <THE> YOU <INTO> GOD AND YOU YOU WILL BECOME FOR <THE> ME <INTO> A PEOPLE AND YOU WILL WALK IN EVERY <THE> WAY WHICH I WILL COMMAND <OBJ.> YOU SO THAT IT MAY GO WELL FOR <THE> YOU 23but this is what I commanded them: Obey Me, and I will be your God, and you will be My people. You must walk in all the ways I have commanded you, so that it may go well with you.
24AND NOT THEY LISTENED AND NOT THEY INCLINED <OBJ.> EAR THEIR AND THEY WALKED IN COUNSELS IN [THE] STUBBORNNESS OF HEART THEIR <THE> EVIL AND THEY WERE <TO> BACKWARDS AND NOT <TO> FORWARDS 24Yet they did not listen or incline their ear, but they followed the stubborn inclinations of their own evil hearts. They went backward and not forward.
25<TO> FROM THE DAY WHEN THEY CAME OUT ANCESTORS YOUR FROM [THE] LAND OF EGYPT UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS AND I SENT TO YOU <OBJ.> ALL SERVANTS MY THE PROPHETS DAY RISING EARLY AND SENDING 25From the day your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have sent you all My servants the prophets again and again.*NoteCloseLiterally I have sent you all My servants the prophets daily, rising up early and sending (them).
26AND NOT THEY LISTENED TO ME AND NOT THEY INCLINED <OBJ.> EAR THEIR AND THEY STIFFENED <OBJ.> NECK THEIR THEY DID EVIL MORE THAN ANCESTORS THEIR 26Yet they would not listen to Me or incline their ear, but they stiffened their necks and did more evil than their fathers.
27AND YOU WILL SAY TO THEM <OBJ.> ALL THE WORDS <THE> THESE AND NOT THEY WILL LISTEN TO YOU AND YOU WILL CALL TO THEM AND NOT THEY WILL ANSWER YOU 27When you tell them all these things, they will not listen to you. When you call to them, they will not answer.
28AND YOU WILL SAY TO THEM THIS [IS] THE NATION WHICH NOT THEY LISTENED TO [THE] VOICE OF YAHWEH GOD ITS AND NOT THEY ACCEPTED CORRECTION IT HAS PERISHED <THE> FAITHFULNESS AND IT HAS BEEN CUT OFF FROM MOUTH THEIR 28Therefore you must say to them, ‘This is the nation that would not listen to the voice of the LORD their God and would not receive correction. Truth has perished; it has disappeared from their lips.
29CUT OFF HAIR YOUR AND THROW [IT] AWAY AND TAKE UP ON BARE HEIGHTS A LAMENTATION FOR HE HAS REJECTED YAHWEH AND HE HAS ABANDONED <OBJ.> [THE] GENERATION OF FURY HIS 29Cut off your hair and throw it away. Raise up a lamentation on the barren heights, for the LORD has rejected and forsaken the generation of His wrath.’
30FOR THEY HAVE DONE [THE] PEOPLE OF JUDAH THE EVIL IN VIEW MY [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH THEY HAVE PUT DETESTABLE THINGS THEIR IN THE HOUSE WHICH IT IS CALLED NAME MY ON IT TO MAKE UNCLEAN IT The Valley of Slaughter 30For the people of Judah have done evil in My sight, declares the LORD. They have set up their abominations in the house that bears My Name, and so have defiled it.
31AND THEY HAVE BUILT [THE] HIGH PLACES OF <THE> TOPHETH WHICH [IS] IN [THE] VALLEY OF BEN HINNOM TO BURN <OBJ.> SONS THEIR AND <OBJ.> DAUGHTERS THEIR IN THE FIRE WHICH NOT I COMMANDED AND NOT IT CAME UP ON HEART MY 31They have built the high places of Topheth in the Valley of Ben-hinnom so they could burn their sons and daughters in the fire— something I never commanded, nor did it even enter My mind.
32<TO> THEREFORE HERE! DAYS [ARE] COMING [THE] UTTERANCE OF YAHWEH AND NOT IT WILL BE SAID AGAIN <THE> TOPHETH AND [THE] VALLEY OF BEN HINNOM THAT EXCEPT [THE] VALLEY OF <THE> SLAUGHTER AND PEOPLE WILL BURY IN TOPHETH FROM NOT ROOM 32So behold, the days are coming, declares the LORD, when this place will no longer be called Topheth and the Valley of Ben-hinnom, but the Valley of Slaughter. For they will bury the dead in Topheth until there is no more room.
33AND IT WILL BECOME [THE] CORPSE[S] OF THE PEOPLE <THE> THIS <INTO> FOOD FOR [THE] BIRD[S] OF THE HEAVENS AND FOR [THE] ANIMAL[S] OF THE EARTH AND THERE NOT [WILL BE ONE WHO] TERRIFIES 33The corpses of this people will become food for the birds of the air and the beasts of the earth, and there will be no one to scare them away.
34AND I WILL CAUSE TO CEASE FROM [THE] CITIES OF JUDAH AND FROM [THE] STREETS OF JERUSALEM [THE] SOUND OF JOY AND [THE] SOUND OF GLADNESS [THE] SOUND OF A BRIDEGROOM AND [THE] SOUND OF A BRIDE FOR <INTO> A DESOLATION IT WILL BECOME THE LAND 34I will remove from the cities of Judah and the streets of Jerusalem the sounds of joy and gladness and the voices of the bride and bridegroom, for the land will become a wasteland.”
