1AND HE ANSWERED BILDAD THE SHUHITE AND HE SAID Bildad: God Punishes the Wicked 1Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:
2UNTIL WHEN? WILL YOU MAKE! ENDS OF WORDS YOU WILL CONSIDER AND AFTER WE WILL SPEAK 2“How long until you end these speeches? Show some sense, and then we can talk.
3WHY? ARE WE REGARDED LIKE <THE> CATTLE ARE WE CONSIDERED STUPID? IN VIEW YOUR 3Why are we regarded as cattle, as stupid in your sight?
4O [ONE WHO] TEARS SELF HIS IN ANGER HIS ¿ FOR SAKE YOUR MAY IT BE ABANDONED [THE] EARTH SO IT MAY MOVE? A ROCK FROM PLACE ITS 4You who tear yourself in anger— should the earth be forsaken on your account, or the rocks be moved from their place?
5ALSO [THE] LIGHT OF WICKED [PEOPLE] IT IS EXTINGUISHED AND NOT IT SHINES [THE] FLAME OF FIRE HIS 5Indeed, the lamp of the wicked is extinguished; the flame of his fire does not glow.
6[THE] LIGHT IT GROWS DARK IN TENT HIS AND LAMP HIS ABOVE HIM IT IS EXTINGUISHED 6The light in his tent grows dark, and the lamp beside him goes out.
7THEY ARE RESTRICTED [THE] STEPS OF VIGOR HIS AND IT THROWS DOWN HIM OWN PLAN[S] HIS 7His vigorous stride is shortened, and his own schemes trip him up.
8FOR HE IS CAUGHT IN A NET BY FEET HIS AND ON A NETWORK HE WALKS ABOUT 8For his own feet lead him into a net, and he wanders into its mesh.
9IT TAKES HOLD ON A HEEL A TRAP IT TAKES HOLD ON HIM A SNARE 9A trap seizes his heel; a snare grips him.
10[IS] HIDDEN ON THE GROUND ROPE HIS AND TRAP HIS ON [THE] PATH 10A noose is hidden in the ground, and a trap lies in his path.
11ALL AROUND THEY TERRIFY HIM SUDDEN TERROR<S> AND THEY SCATTER HIM TO FEET HIS 11Terrors frighten him on every side and harass his every step.
12IT IS HUNGRY TROUBLE HIS AND DISASTER [IS] PREPARED FOR STUMBLING HIS 12His strength is depleted, and calamity is ready at his side.
13IT CONSUMES [THE] PARTS OF SKIN HIS IT CONSUMES PARTS HIS [THE] FIRSTBORN OF DEATH 13It devours patches of his skin; the firstborn of death devours his limbs.
14HE IS TORN AWAY FROM TENT HIS TRUST HIS AND IT MAKES MARCH HIM TO [THE] KING OF SUDDEN TERROR<S> 14He is torn from the shelter of his tent and is marched off to the king of terrors.
15IT DWELLS IN TENT HIS BECAUSE NOT [BELONGING] TO HIM IT IS SCATTERED OVER ESTATE HIS SULFUR 15Fire resides in his tent; burning sulfur rains down on his dwelling.
16<FROM> BENEATH ROOTS HIS THEY ARE DRIED UP AND <FROM> ABOVE IT WITHERS BRANCH[ES] HIS 16The roots beneath him dry up, and the branches above him wither away.
17MEMORY HIS IT PERISHES FROM [THE] EARTH AND NOT A NAME [BELONGS] TO HIM ON [THE] FACE OF [THE] STREET 17The memory of him perishes from the earth, and he has no name in the land.
18PEOPLE DRIVE HIM FROM LIGHT INTO DARKNESS AND FROM [THE] WORLD THEY CHASE AWAY HIM 18He is driven from light into darkness and is chased from the inhabited world.
19NOT POSTERITY [BELONGS] TO HIM AND NOT PROGENY [IS] AMONG PEOPLE HIS AND THERE NOT [IS] A SURVIVOR IN SOJOURNING-PLACES HIS 19He has no offspring or posterity among his people, no survivor where he once lived.
20ON DAY HIS THEY ARE APPALLED [THOSE] BEHIND AND [THOSE] BEFORE THEY TAKE HOLD OF A SHUDDER 20Those in the west are appalled at his fate, while those in the east tremble in horror.
21SURELY THESE [ARE] [THE] DWELLING PLACES OF AN EVIL-DOER AND THIS [IS THE] PLACE OF [ONE WHO] NOT HE KNOWS GOD 21Surely such is the dwelling of the wicked and the place of one who does not know God.”
