1AND HE ANSWERED ZOPHAR THE NAAMATHITE AND HE SAID Zophar: Destruction Awaits the Wicked 1Then Zophar the Naamathite replied:
2<TO> THEREFORE DISQUIETING THOUGHTS MY THEY MAKE RESPOND ME AND IN ORDER TO AGITATE I IN ME 2“So my anxious thoughts compel me to answer, because of the turmoil within me.
3[THE] CORRECTION OF INSULT MY I HAVE HEARD AND A SPIRIT FROM UNDERSTANDING MY IT ANSWERS ME 3I have heard a rebuke that insults me, and my understanding prompts a reply.
4¿ THIS DO YOU KNOW FROM ANTIQUITY FROM WHEN PUT HUMANKIND ON EARTH 4Do you not know that from antiquity, since man was placed on the earth,
5THAT [THE] CRY OF JOY OF WICKED [PEOPLE] [IS] FROM NEAR AND [THE] GLADNESS OF [THE] GODLESS [IS] UNTIL A MOMENT 5the triumph of the wicked has been brief and the joy of the godless momentary?
6THOUGH IT WILL GO UP TO THE HEAVENS LOFTINESS HIS AND HEAD HIS TO THE CLOUD[S] IT WILL REACH 6Though his arrogance reaches the heavens, and his head touches the clouds,
7LIKE OWN DUNG HIS TO PERPETUITY HE WILL PERISH [THOSE WHO] SAW HIM THEY WILL SAY WHERE [IS]? HE 7he will perish forever, like his own dung; those who had seen him will ask, ‘Where is he?’
8LIKE A DREAM HE WILL FLY AWAY AND NOT PEOPLE WILL FIND HIM AND HE MAY BE CHASED AWAY LIKE A VISION OF [THE] NIGHT 8He will fly away like a dream, never to be found; he will be chased away like a vision in the night.
9AN EYE IT CAUGHT SIGHT OF HIM AND NOT IT WILL REPEAT AND NOT AGAIN IT WILL SEE HIM PLACE HIS 9The eye that saw him will see him no more, and his place will no longer behold him.
10CHILDREN HIS THEY WILL SEEK [THE] FAVOR OF POOR [PEOPLE] AND OWN HANDS HIS THEY WILL GIVE BACK WEALTH HIS 10His sons will seek the favor of the poor, for his own hands must return his wealth.
11BONES HIS THEY WERE FULL YOUTHFUL VIGOR<S> HIS AND WITH HIM ON [THE] DUST IT WILL LIE DOWN 11The youthful vigor that fills his bones will lie down with him in the dust.
12THOUGH IT IS SWEET IN MOUTH HIS EVIL HE HIDES IT UNDER TONGUE HIS 12Though evil is sweet in his mouth and he conceals it under his tongue,
13HE SPARES <ON> IT AND NOT HE LETS LOOSE IT AND HE WITHHOLDS IT IN [THE] MIDST OF MOUTH HIS 13though he cannot bear to let it go and keeps it in his mouth,
14FOOD HIS IN INWARD PARTS HIS IT IS CHANGED VENOM OF COBRAS IN INWARD PART[S] HIS 14yet in his stomach his food sours into the venom of cobras within him.
15WEALTH HE SWALLOWS AND HE HAS VOMITED UP IT FROM BELLY HIS HE DRIVES OUT IT GOD 15He swallows wealth but vomits it out; God will force it from his stomach.
16[THE] POISON OF COBRAS HE SUCKS IT SLAYS HIM [THE] TONGUE OF A VIPER 16He will suck the poison of cobras; the fangs of a viper will kill him.
17MAY NOT HE LOOK ON STREAMS RIVERS OF TORRENTS OF HONEY AND CURD<S> 17He will not enjoy the streams, the rivers flowing with honey and cream.
18[HE IS] RESTORING [THE] GAIN AND NOT HE SWALLOWS [IT] ACCORDING TO [THE] WEALTH OF TRADING HIS <AND> NOT HE WILL REJOICE 18He must return the fruit of his labor without consuming it; he cannot enjoy the profits of his trading.
19FOR HE HAS CRUSHED HE HAS NEGLECTED POOR [PEOPLE] A HOUSE HE HAS SEIZED AND NOT HE HAD BUILT IT 19For he has oppressed and forsaken the poor; he has seized houses he did not build.
20FOR NOT HE KNOWS QUIET IN BELLY HIS AMONG DESIRED [THINGS] HIS NOT HE DELIVERS 20Because his appetite is never satisfied, he cannot escape with his treasure.
21THERE NOT [IS] A SURVIVOR TO DEVOUR HE THERE- -FORE NOT IT WILL ENDURE PROSPERITY HIS 21Nothing is left for him to consume; thus his prosperity will not endure.
22WHEN IS FULL SUFFICIENCY HIS IT WILL BE DISTRESS TO HIM EVERY HAND OF A SUFFERER IT WILL COME TO HIM 22In the midst of his plenty, he will be distressed the full force of misery will come upon him.
23MAY HE BE [ABOUT] TO FILL BELLY HIS HE WILL SEND ON HIM [THE] BURNING OF ANGER HIS AND HE WILL SEND RAIN ON HIM IN BOWEL[S] HIS 23When he has filled his stomach, God will vent His fury upon him, raining it down on him as he eats.
24HE WILL FLEE FROM A WEAPON OF IRON IT WILL CUT THROUGH HIM A BOW OF BRONZE 24Though he flees from an iron weapon, a bronze-tipped arrow will pierce him.
25HE WILL DRAW [IT] OUT AND IT CAME OUT FROM [THE] BACK AND LIGHTNING FROM GALL-BLADDER HIS IT WILL COME ON HIM TERRORS 25It is drawn out of his back, the gleaming point from his liver.*NoteCloseLiterally from his gall Terrors come over him.
26ALL DARKNESS [IS] HIDDEN FOR TREASURED [THINGS] HIS IT WILL CONSUME HIM FIRE [WHICH] NOT IT HAS BEEN FANNED IT WILL BE EVIL A SURVIVOR IN TENT HIS 26Total darkness is reserved for his treasures. A fire unfanned will consume him and devour what is left in his tent.
27THEY WILL REVEAL [THE] HEAVENS INIQUITY HIS AND [THE] EARTH [WILL] RISE UP TO HIM 27The heavens will expose his iniquity, and the earth will rise up against him.
28IT WILL DEPART [THE] PRODUCE OF HOUSE HIS TORRENTS ON [THE] DAY OF ANGER HIS 28The possessions of his house will be removed, flowing away on the day of God’s wrath.
29THIS [IS THE] PORTION OF A PERSON WICKED FROM GOD AND [THE] INHERITANCE OF DECREE HIS FROM GOD 29This is the wicked man’s portion from God, the inheritance God has appointed him.”
