33AND TO [THE] TRIBE OF THE LEVITE[S] NOT HE GAVE MOSES AN INHERITANCE YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL HE [WAS] INHERITANCE THEIR JUST AS HE HAD SPOKEN TO <THE> THEM 33To the tribe of Levi, however, Moses had given no inheritance. The LORD, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, just as He had promised them.
1AND THESE [ARE THAT] WHICH THEY INHERITED [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL IN [THE] LAND OF CANAAN WHICH THEY GAVE AS A POSSESSION <OBJ.> THEM ELEAZAR THE PRIEST AND JOSHUA [THE] SON OF NUN AND [THE] LEADERS OF [THE] FATHERS OF THE TRIBES OF [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL Land Division West of the Jordan 1Now these are the portions that the Israelites inherited in the land of Canaan, as distributed by Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the heads of the families of the tribes of Israel.
2BY [THE] ALLOTTED PORTION OF INHERITANCE THEIR JUST AS HE HAD COMMANDED YAHWEH BY [THE] HAND OF MOSES FOR [THE] NINE THE TRIBES AND [THE] HALF OF THE TRIBE 2Their inheritance was assigned by lot for the nine and a half tribes, as the LORD had commanded through Moses.
3FOR HE HAD GIVEN MOSES [THE] INHERITANCE OF [THE] TWO THE TRIBES AND [THE] HALF OF THE TRIBE FROM [THE] OTHER SIDE OF THE JORDAN AND TO THE LEVITES NOT HE HAD GIVEN AN INHERITANCE IN MIDST OF THEM 3For Moses had given the inheritance east of the Jordan to the other two and a half tribes. But he granted no inheritance among them to the Levites.
4FOR THEY WERE [THE] DESCENDANTS OF JOSEPH TWO TRIBES MANASSEH AND EPHRAIM AND NOT PEOPLE GAVE A PORTION TO THE LEVITES IN THE LAND THAT EXCEPT CITIES TO DWELL IN AND PASTURE LANDS THEIR FOR LIVESTOCK THEIR AND FOR POSSESSION[S] THEIR 4The descendants of Joseph became two tribes, Manasseh and Ephraim. And no portion of the land was given to the Levites, except for cities in which to live, along with pasturelands for their flocks and herds.
5JUST AS HE HAD COMMANDED YAHWEH <OBJ.> MOSES SO THEY DID [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND THEY APPORTIONED <OBJ.> THE LAND 5So the Israelites did as the LORD had commanded Moses, and they divided the land.
6AND THEY APPROACHED [THE] DESCENDANTS OF JUDAH TO JOSHUA AT <THE> GILGAL AND HE SAID TO HIM CALEB [THE] SON OF JEPHUNNEH THE KENIZZITE YOU YOU KNOW <OBJ.> THE WORD WHICH HE SPOKE YAHWEH TO MOSES [THE] MAN OF <THE> GOD ON CAUSES MY AND ON CAUSES YOUR AT KADESH BARNEA Caleb Requests Hebron 6Then the sons of Judah approached Joshua at Gilgal, and Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite said to him, “You know what the LORD said to Moses the man of God at Kadesh-barnea about you and me
7[WAS] A SON OF FORTY YEAR[S] I WHEN SENT MOSES [THE] SERVANT OF YAHWEH <OBJ.> ME FROM KADESH BARNEA TO SPY OUT <OBJ.> THE LAND AND I BROUGHT BACK <OBJ.> HIM A WORD JUST AS WITH HEART MY 7I was forty years old when Moses the servant of the LORD sent me from Kadesh-barnea to spy out the land, and I brought back to him an honest report.
8AND BROTHERS MY WHO THEY WENT UP WITH ME THEY MELTED <OBJ.> [THE] HEART OF THE PEOPLE AND I I FILLED AFTER YAHWEH GOD MY 8Although my brothers who went with me made the hearts of the people melt with fear, I remained loyal to the LORD my God.
9AND HE SWORE AN OATH MOSES ON THE DAY <THE> THAT <TO> SAYING IF NOT THE LAND WHICH IT TROD FOOT YOUR ON <THE> IT OF YOU IT WILL BECOME <INTO> AN INHERITANCE AND OF CHILDREN YOUR UNTIL PERPETUITY FOR YOU FILLED AFTER YAHWEH GOD MY 9On that day Moses swore to me, saying, ‘Surely the land on which you have set foot will be an inheritance to you and your children forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.’
10AND NOW HERE! HE HAS LET LIVE YAHWEH <OBJ.> ME JUST AS HE SPOKE THIS FORTY AND FIVE YEAR[S] FROM THEN HE SPOKE YAHWEH <OBJ.> THE WORD <THE> THIS TO MOSES WHEN IT WALKED ISRAEL IN THE WILDERNESS AND NOW HERE! I THIS DAY [AM] A SON OF FIVE AND EIGHTY YEAR[S] 10Now behold, as the LORD promised, He has kept me alive these forty-five years since He spoke this word to Moses, while Israel wandered in the wilderness. So here I am today, eighty-five years old,
11STILL I THIS DAY [AM] STRONG JUST AS ON [THE] DAY SENT <OBJ.> ME MOSES AS STRENGTH MY THEN AND AS STRENGTH MY NOW FOR THE BATTLE AND TO GO OUT AND TO COME 11still as strong today as I was the day Moses sent me out. As my strength was then, so it is now for war, for going out, and for coming in.
12AND THEREFORE GIVE! TO <THE> ME <OBJ.> THE HILL COUNTRY <THE> THIS WHICH HE SPOKE YAHWEH ON THE DAY <THE> THAT FOR YOU YOU HEARD ON THE DAY <THE> THAT THAT ANAKITES [WERE] THERE AND CITIES LARGE FORTIFIED PERHAPS YAHWEH WITH <THE> ME AND I WILL DISPOSSESS THEM JUST AS HE SPOKE YAHWEH 12Now therefore give me this hill country that the LORD promised me on that day, for you yourself heard then that the Anakim were there, with great and fortified cities. Perhaps with the LORD’s help I will drive them out, as the LORD has spoken.”
13AND HE BLESSED HIM JOSHUA AND HE GAVE <OBJ.> HEBRON TO CALEB [THE] SON OF JEPHUNNEH TO AN INHERITANCE 13Then Joshua blessed Caleb son of Jephunneh and gave him Hebron as his inheritance.
14THERE- -FORE IT BECAME HEBRON OF CALEB [THE] SON OF JEPHUNNEH THE KENIZZITE <INTO> AN INHERITANCE UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS BECAUSE THAT HE FILLED AFTER YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL 14Therefore Hebron belongs to Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite as an inheritance to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD, the God of Israel.
15AND [THE] NAME OF HEBRON <TO> BEFORE [WAS] KIRIATH ARBA [WHO WAS] THE MAN <THE> GREAT AMONG THE ANAKITES HE AND THE LAND IT WAS AT PEACE FROM WAR 15(Hebron used to be called Kiriath-arba, after Arba, the greatest man among the Anakim.) Then the land had rest from war.
