3AND IT GOES OUT TO FROM [THE] SOUTH OF [THE] ASCENT OF SCORPIONS AND IT PASSES ON ZIN TOWARDS AND IT GOES UP FROM [THE] SOUTH OF KADESH BARNEA AND IT PASSES ON HEZRON AND IT GOES UP ADDAR TOWARDS AND IT TURNS <THE> KARKA TOWARDS 3proceeded south of the Ascent of Akrabbim,*NoteCloseOr the Ascent of Scorpions or Scorpion Pass continued on to Zin, went over to the south of Kadesh-barnea, ran past Hezron up to Addar, and curved toward Karka.
4AND IT PASSES ON AZMON TOWARDS AND IT GOES OUT [THE] WADI OF EGYPT AND THEY ARE [THE] EXTREMITIES OF THE TERRITORY WEST -WARD THIS IT WILL BE OF YOU BORDER OF [THE] SOUTH 4It proceeded to Azmon, joined the Brook of Egypt, and ended at the Sea.*NoteCloseThat is, the Mediterranean Sea, also called the Great Sea; also in verses 11, 12, and 47 This was their*NoteCloseLXX; Hebrew your southern border.
5AND [THE] BORDER EAST -WARD [IS] [THE] SEA OF <THE> SALT TO [THE] END OF THE JORDAN AND [THE] BORDER OF [THE] SIDE OF NORTH -WARD [IS] FROM [THE] BAY OF THE SEA FROM [THE] END OF THE JORDAN 5The eastern border was the Salt Sea as far as the mouth of the Jordan. The northern border started from the bay of the sea at the mouth of the Jordan,
6AND IT GOES UP THE BORDER BETH HOGLAH AND IT PASSES ON FROM [THE] NORTH OF BETH <THE> ARABAH AND IT GOES UP THE BORDER [THE] STONE OF BOHAN [THE] SON OF REUBEN 6went up to Beth-hoglah, proceeded north of Beth-arabah, and went up to the Stone of Bohan son of Reuben.
7AND IT GOES UP THE BORDER DEBIR TOWARDS FROM [THE] VALLEY OF ACHOR AND NORTH -WARD [IT IS] TURNING TO <THE> GILGAL WHICH [IS] OPPOSITE TO [THE] ASCENT OF ADUMMIM WHICH [IS] FROM [THE] SOUTH OF THE WADI AND IT PASSES ON THE BORDER TO [THE] WATERS OF EN SHEMESH AND THEY ARE EXTREMITIES ITS TO EN ROGEL 7Then the border went up to Debir from the Valley of Achor, turning north to Gilgal, which faces the Ascent of Adummim south of the ravine. It continued along the waters of En-shemesh and came out at En-rogel.
8AND IT GOES UP THE BORDER [THE] VALLEY OF BEN HINNOM TO [THE] SLOPE OF THE JEBUSITE[S] FROM [THE] SOUTH THAT [IS] JERUSALEM AND IT GOES UP THE BORDER TO [THE] TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN WHICH [IS] ON [THE] FACE OF [THE] VALLEY OF [BEN] HINNOM WEST -WARD WHICH [IS] AT [THE] END OF [THE] VALLEY OF [THE] REPHAITES NORTH -WARD 8From there the border went up the Valley of Ben-hinnom along the southern slope of the Jebusites (that is, Jerusalem) and ascended to the top of the hill that faces the Valley of Hinnom on the west, at the northern end of the Valley of Rephaim.
9AND IT TURNS THE BORDER FROM [THE] TOP OF THE MOUNTAIN TO [THE] SPRING OF [THE] WATERS OF NEPHTOAH AND IT GOES OUT TO [THE] CITIES OF [THE] MOUNTAIN OF EPHRON AND IT TURNS THE BORDER BAALAH THAT [IS] KIRIATH JEARIM 9From the hilltop the border curved to the spring of the Waters of Nephtoah, proceeded to the cities of Mount Ephron, and then bent around toward Baalah (that is, Kiriath-jearim).
10AND IT TURNS THE BORDER FROM BAALAH WEST -WARD TO [THE] MOUNTAIN OF SEIR AND IT PASSES ON TO [THE] SLOPE OF [THE] MOUNTAIN OF JEARIM FROM NORTH -WARD THAT [IS] KESALON AND IT GOES DOWN BETH SHEMESH AND IT PASSES ON TIMNAH 10The border curled westward from Baalah to Mount Seir, ran along the northern slope of Mount Jearim (that is, Chesalon), went down to Beth-shemesh, and crossed to Timnah.
11AND IT GOES OUT THE BORDER TO [THE] SLOPE OF EKRON NORTH -WARD AND IT TURNS THE BORDER SHIKKERON TOWARDS AND IT PASSES ON [THE] MOUNTAIN OF <THE> BAALAH AND IT GOES OUT JABNEEL AND THEY ARE [THE] EXTREMITIES OF THE TERRITORY WEST -WARD 11Then it went out to the northern slope of Ekron, curved toward Shikkeron, proceeded to Mount Baalah, went on to Jabneel, and ended at the Sea.
12AND [THE] BORDER OF [THE] WEST [IS] THE SEA TOWARDS <THE> GREAT AND TERRITORY THIS [IS] [THE] BORDER OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF JUDAH AROUND TO CLANS THEIR 12And the western border was the coastline of the Great Sea. These are the boundaries around the clans of the descendants of Judah.
13AND TO CALEB [THE] SON OF JEPHUNNEH SOMEONE GAVE A PORTION IN AMONG [THE] DESCENDANTS OF JUDAH TO [THE] MOUTH OF YAHWEH TO JOSHUA <OBJ.> KIRIATH ARBA [THE] FATHER OF <THE> ANAK THAT [IS] HEBRON Caleb’s Portion and Conquest (Judges 1:8–26) 13According to the LORD’s command to him, Joshua gave Caleb son of Jephunneh a portion among the sons of Judah— Kiriath-arba, that is, Hebron. (Arba was the forefather of Anak.)
14AND HE DISPOSSESSED FROM THERE CALEB <OBJ.> THREE [THE] SONS OF <THE> ANAK <OBJ.> SHESHAI AND <OBJ.> AHIMAN AND <OBJ.> TALMAI THOSE BORN OF <THE> ANAK 14And Caleb drove out from there the three sons of Anak— the descendants of Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.
15AND HE WENT UP FROM THERE AGAINST [THE] INHABITANTS OF DEBIR AND [THE] NAME OF DEBIR <TO> BEFORE [WAS] KIRIATH SEPHER 15From there he marched against the inhabitants of Debir (formerly known as Kiriath-sepher).
16AND HE SAID CALEB [THE ONE] WHO HE WILL STRIKE <OBJ.> KIRIATH SEPHER AND HE WILL CAPTURE IT AND I WILL GIVE TO <THE> HIM <OBJ.> ACHSAH DAUGHTER MY TO A WIFE 16And Caleb said, “To the man who strikes down Kiriath-sepher and captures it, I will give my daughter Acsah in marriage.”
17AND HE CAPTURED IT OTHNIEL [THE] SON OF KENAZ [THE] BROTHER OF CALEB AND HE GAVE TO <THE> HIM <OBJ.> ACHSAH DAUGHTER HIS TO A WIFE 17So Othniel son of Caleb’s brother Kenaz captured the city, and Caleb gave his daughter Acsah to him in marriage.
18AND IT WAS WHEN CAME SHE AND SHE INCITED HIM TO ASK FROM WITH FATHER HER A FIELD AND SHE WENT DOWN FROM ON THE DONKEY AND HE SAID TO <THE> HER CALEB WHAT? [IS] TO <THE> YOU 18One day Acsah came to Othniel and urged him*NoteCloseHebrew and some LXX manuscripts; other LXX manuscripts and he urged her; see Judges 1:14. to ask her father for a field. When she got off her donkey, Caleb asked her, “What do you desire?”

TO <THE> ME A BLESSING FOR [THE] LAND OF THE NEGEV YOU HAVE GIVEN TO ME AND YOU WILL GIVE TO <THE> ME SPRINGS OF WATER AND HE GAVE TO <THE> HER <OBJ.> SPRINGS UPPER AND <OBJ.> SPRINGS LOWER 19“Give me a blessing,” she answered. “Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me springs of water as well.” So Caleb gave her both the upper and lower springs.

21AND THEY WERE THE CITIES FROM [THE] END OF [THE] TRIBE OF [THE] DESCENDANTS OF JUDAH TO [THE] BORDER OF EDOM IN THE SOUTH <TOWARDS> KABZEEL AND EDER AND JAGUR 21These were the southernmost cities of the tribe of Judah in the Negev toward the border of Edom: Kabzeel, Eder, Jagur,
25AND HAZOR HADATTAH AND KERIOTH HEZRON THAT [IS] HAZOR 25Hazor-hadattah, Kerioth-hezron (that is, Hazor),
32AND LEBAOTH AND SHILHIM AND AIN AND RIMMON ALL [THE] CITIES [WERE] TWENTY AND NINE AND VILLAGES THEIR 32Lebaoth, Shilhim, Ain, and Rimmon— twenty-nine cities in all, along with their villages.
33IN THE SHEPHELAH ESHTAOL AND ZORAH AND ASHNAH 33These were in the foothills:*NoteCloseHebrew Shephelah or lowlands; that is, the western foothills of Judea Eshtaol, Zorah, Ashnah,
36AND SHAARAIM AND ADITHAIM AND <THE> GEDERAH AND GEDEROTHAIM CITIES FOUR- TEEN AND VILLAGES THEIR 36Shaaraim, Adithaim, and Gederah (or Gederothaim)— fourteen cities, along with their villages.
41AND GEDEROTH BETH DAGON AND NAAMAH AND MAKKEDAH CITIES SIX- TEEN AND VILLAGES THEIR 41Gederoth, Beth-dagon, Naamah, and Makkedah— sixteen cities, along with their villages.
44AND KEILAH AND ACZIB AND MARESHAH CITIES NINE AND VILLAGES THEIR 44Keilah, Achzib, and Mareshah— nine cities, along with their villages.
46FROM EKRON AND WEST -WARD ALL THAT [IS] ON [THE] HAND OF ASHDOD AND VILLAGES THEIR 46from Ekron to the sea, all the cities near Ashdod, along with their villages;
47ASHDOD DAUGHTERS ITS AND VILLAGES ITS GAZA DAUGHTERS ITS AND VILLAGES ITS TO [THE] WADI OF EGYPT AND THE SEA <THE> GREAT AND TERRITORY 47Ashdod, with its towns and villages; Gaza, with its towns and villages, as far as the Brook of Egypt and the coastline of the Great Sea.
48AND IN THE HILL COUNTRY SHAMIR AND JATTIR AND SOCOH 48These were in the hill country: Shamir, Jattir, Socoh,
51AND GOSHEN AND HOLON AND GILOH CITIES ONE [PLUS] TEN AND VILLAGES THEIR 51Goshen, Holon, and Giloh— eleven cities, along with their villages.
54AND HUMTAH AND KIRIATH ARBA THAT [IS] HEBRON AND ZIOR CITIES NINE AND VILLAGES THEIR 54Humtah, Kiriath-arba (that is, Hebron), and Zior— nine cities, along with their villages.
57<THE> KAIN GIBEAH AND TIMNAH CITIES TEN AND VILLAGES THEIR 57Kain, Gibeah, and Timnah— ten cities, along with their villages.
59AND MAARATH AND BETH ANOTH AND ELTEKON CITIES SIX AND VILLAGES THEIR 59Maarath, Beth-anoth, and Eltekon— six cities, along with their villages.
60KIRIATH BAAL THAT [IS] KIRIATH JEARIM AND <THE> RABBAH CITIES TWO AND VILLAGES THEIR 60Kiriath-baal (that is, Kiriath-jearim), and Rabbah— two cities, along with their villages.
61IN THE WILDERNESS BETH ARABAH MIDDIN AND SECACAH 61These were in the wilderness: Beth-arabah, Middin, Secacah,
62AND <THE> NIBSHAN AND [THE] CITY OF <THE> SALT AND EN GEDI CITIES SIX AND VILLAGES THEIR 62Nibshan, the City of Salt, and En-gedi— six cities, along with their villages.
63AND <OBJ.> THE JEBUSITE[S] [THE] INHABITANTS OF JERUSALEM NOT THEY WERE ABLE [THE] DESCENDANTS OF JUDAH TO DISPOSSESS THEM AND HE HAS DWELT THE JEBUSITE[S] WITH [THE] DESCENDANTS OF JUDAH IN JERUSALEM UNTIL THE DAY <THE> THIS 63But the descendants of Judah could not drive out the Jebusites living in Jerusalem. So to this day the Jebusites live there among the descendants of Judah.
