[IS] THE MAN WHO HE WILL BEGIN TO FIGHT AGAINST [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON HE WILL BECOME <INTO> CHIEF OF ALL [THE] INHABITANTS OF GILEAD 18And the rulers of Gilead said to one another, “Whoever will launch the attack against the Ammonites will be the head of all who live in Gilead.”
AND JEPHTHAH THE GILEADITE HE WAS A MIGHTY [MAN] OF STRENGTH AND HE [WAS] [THE] SON OF A WOMAN A PROSTITUTE AND HE FATHERED GILEAD <OBJ.> JEPHTHAH Jephthah Delivers Israel 1Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor; he was the son of a prostitute, and Gilead was his father.
AND SHE BORE [THE] WIFE OF GILEAD TO <THE> HIM SONS AND THEY GREW UP [THE] SONS OF THE WIFE AND THEY DROVE OUT <OBJ.> JEPHTHAH AND THEY SAID TO <THE> HIM NOT YOU WILL HAVE AN INHERITANCE IN [THE] HOUSE OF FATHER OUR FOR [ARE] [THE] SON OF A WOMAN ANOTHER YOU 2And Gilead’s wife bore him sons who grew up, drove Jephthah out, and said to him, “You shall have no inheritance in our father’s house, because you are the son of another woman.”

AND IT WAS FROM DAYS AND THEY FOUGHT [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON WITH ISRAEL 4Some time later, when the Ammonites fought against Israel
AND IT WAS JUST WHEN THEY FOUGHT [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON WITH ISRAEL AND THEY WENT [THE] ELDERS OF GILEAD TO FETCH <OBJ.> JEPHTHAH FROM [THE] LAND OF TOB 5and made war with them, the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah from the land of Tob.

HAVE YOU COME TO ME NOW JUST WHEN [IS] DISTRESS TO <THE> YOU 7Jephthah replied to the elders of Gilead, “Did you not hate me and expel me from my father’s house? Why then have you come to me now, when you are in distress
AND THEY SAID [THE] ELDERS OF GILEAD TO JEPHTHAH <TO> THEREFORE NOW WE HAVE RETURNED TO YOU AND YOU WILL COME WITH US AND YOU WILL FIGHT AGAINST [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON AND YOU WILL BECOME OF US <INTO> CHIEF OF ALL [THE] INHABITANTS OF GILEAD 8They answered Jephthah, “This is why we now turn to you, that you may go with us, fight the Ammonites, and become leader over all of us who live in Gilead.”
AND HE SAID JEPHTHAH TO [THE] ELDERS OF GILEAD IF [ARE] BRINGING BACK YOU <OBJ.> ME TO FIGHT AGAINST [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON AND HE WILL DELIVER UP YAHWEH <OBJ.> THEM <TO> BEFORE ME I I WILL BECOME OF YOU <INTO> CHIEF 9But Jephthah asked them, “If you take me back to fight the Ammonites and the LORD gives them to me, will I really be your leader?”
AND THEY SAID [THE] ELDERS OF GILEAD TO JEPHTHAH YAHWEH HE WILL BE HEARING BETWEEN US IF NOT ACCORDING TO WORD YOUR SO WE WILL DO 10And the elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “The LORD is our witness if we do not do as you say.”
AND HE WENT JEPHTHAH WITH [THE] ELDERS OF GILEAD AND THEY MADE THE PEOPLE <OBJ.> HIM OVER THEM INTO CHIEF AND INTO COMMANDER AND HE SPOKE JEPHTHAH <OBJ.> ALL WORDS HIS <TO> BEFORE YAHWEH IN <THE> MIZPAH 11So Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him their leader and commander. And Jephthah repeated all his terms in the presence of the LORD at Mizpah.
AND HE SENT JEPHTHAH MESSENGERS TO [THE] KING OF [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON <TO> SAYING WHAT? [IS] TO ME AND TO <THE> YOU THAT YOU HAVE COME TO ME TO WAGE WAR AGAINST LAND MY 12Then Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the Ammonites, saying, “What do you have against me that you have come to fight against my land?”
AND HE SAID [THE] KING OF [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON TO [THE] MESSENGERS OF JEPHTHAH THAT IT TOOK ISRAEL <OBJ.> LAND MY WHEN CAME UP IT FROM EGYPT FROM [THE] ARNON AND TO THE JABBOK AND TO THE JORDAN AND THEREFORE RESTORE! <OBJ.> THEM IN PEACE 13The king of the Ammonites answered Jephthah’s messengers, “When Israel came up out of Egypt, they seized my land, from the Arnon to the Jabbok and all the way to the Jordan. Now, therefore, restore it peaceably.”
AND HE REPEATED AGAIN JEPHTHAH AND HE SENT MESSENGERS TO [THE] KING OF [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON 14Jephthah again sent messengers to the king of the Ammonites
AND HE SAID TO <THE> HIM THUS HE SAYS JEPHTHAH NOT IT HAS TAKEN ISRAEL <OBJ.> [THE] LAND OF MOAB AND <OBJ.> [THE] LAND OF [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON 15to tell him, “This is what Jephthah says: Israel did not take away the land of Moab or of the Ammonites.
THAT WHEN CAME UP THEY FROM EGYPT AND IT WENT ISRAEL IN THE WILDERNESS TO [THE] SEA OF REED[S] AND IT CAME KADESH TOWARDS 16But when Israel came up out of Egypt, they traveled through the wilderness to the Red Sea*NoteCloseOr the Sea of Reeds and came to Kadesh.

They also sent messengers to the king of Moab, but he would not consent. So Israel stayed in Kadesh.
AND IT WENT IN THE WILDERNESS AND IT WENT AROUND <OBJ.> [THE] LAND OF EDOM AND <OBJ.> [THE] LAND OF MOAB AND IT CAME FROM [THE] RISING OF [THE] SUN OF [THE] LAND OF MOAB AND THEY ENCAMPED! ON [THE] OTHER SIDE OF [THE] ARNON AND NOT THEY WENT IN [THE] TERRITORY OF MOAB FOR [THE] ARNON [WAS] [THE] BORDER OF MOAB 18Then Israel traveled through the wilderness and bypassed the lands of Edom and Moab. They came to the east side of the land of Moab and camped on the other side of the Arnon. But they did not enter the territory of Moab, since the Arnon was its border.
AND IT SENT ISRAEL MESSENGERS TO SIHON [THE] KING OF THE AMORITE[S] [THE] KING OF HESHBON AND IT SAID TO <THE> HIM ISRAEL LET US PASS PLEASE IN LAND YOUR TO OWN PLACE MY 19And Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon, and said to him, ‘Please let us pass through your land into our own place.’
AND NOT HE TRUSTED SIHON <OBJ.> ISRAEL TO PASS IN TERRITORY HIS AND HE GATHERED SIHON <OBJ.> ALL PEOPLE HIS AND THEY ENCAMPED AT JAHAZ <TOWARDS> AND HE FOUGHT WITH ISRAEL 20But Sihon would not trust Israel to pass through his territory. So he gathered all his people, encamped in Jahaz, and fought with Israel.
AND HE GAVE YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL <OBJ.> SIHON AND <OBJ.> ALL PEOPLE HIS IN [THE] HAND OF ISRAEL AND THEY DEFEATED THEM AND IT TOOK POSSESSION OF ISRAEL <OBJ.> ALL [THE] LAND OF THE AMORITE[S] [WHO] DWELT OF THE LAND <THE> THAT 21Then the LORD, the God of Israel, delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, who defeated them. So Israel took possession of all the land of the Amorites who inhabited that country,
AND THEY TOOK POSSESSION OF <OBJ.> ALL [THE] TERRITORY OF THE AMORITE[S] FROM [THE] ARNON AND TO THE JABBOK AND FROM THE WILDERNESS AND TO THE JORDAN 22seizing all the land from the Arnon to the Jabbok and from the wilderness to the Jordan.
AND NOW YAHWEH [THE] GOD OF ISRAEL HE HAS DISPOSSESSED <OBJ.> THE AMORITE[S] FROM BEFORE PEOPLE HIS ISRAEL AND YOU WILL YOU TAKE POSSESSION OF? IT 23Now since the LORD, the God of Israel, has driven out the Amorites from before His people Israel, should you now possess it?
¿ NOT <OBJ.> [THAT] WHICH HE WILL CAUSE TO POSSESS YOU CHEMOSH GOD YOUR <OBJ.> IT WILL YOU TAKE POSSESSION OF AND <OBJ.> ALL THAT HE HAS DISPOSSESSED YAHWEH GOD OUR FROM BEFORE US <OBJ.> IT WE WILL TAKE POSSESSION OF 24Do you not possess whatever your god Chemosh grants you? So also, we possess whatever the LORD our God has granted us.
AND NOW ¿ REALLY <GOOD> GOOD [ARE] YOU MORE THAN BALAK [THE] SON OF ZIPPOR [THE] KING OF MOAB ¿ REALLY <TO QUARREL> DID HE QUARREL WITH ISRAEL OR? EVER <TO WAGE WAR> DID HE WAGE WAR AGAINST <THE> THEM 25Are you now so much better than Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever contend with Israel or fight against them?
WHEN DWELT ISRAEL IN HESHBON AND IN DAUGHTERS ITS AND IN AROER AND IN DAUGHTERS ITS AND IN ALL THE CITIES WHICH [WERE] ON [THE] SIDES OF [THE] ARNON THREE HUNDRED<S> YEAR[S] AND WHY? NOT DID YOU RECOVER [THEM] AT THE TIME <THE> THAT 26For three hundred years Israel has lived in Heshbon, Aroer, and their villages, as well as all the cities along the banks of the Arnon. Why did you not take them back during that time?
AND I NOT I HAVE SINNED TO <THE> YOU AND YOU [ARE] DOING WITH ME EVIL BY WAGING WAR AGAINST <THE> ME MAY HE JUDGE YAHWEH THE JUDGE THIS DAY BETWEEN [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL AND BETWEEN [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON 27I have not sinned against you, but you have done me wrong by waging war against me. May the LORD, the Judge, decide today between the Israelites and the Ammonites
AND NOT HE LISTENED [THE] KING OF [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON TO [THE] WORDS OF JEPHTHAH WHICH HE SENT TO HIM 28But the king of the Ammonites paid no heed to the message Jephthah sent him.

And from there he advanced against the Ammonites.
AND HE VOWED JEPHTHAH A VOW TO YAHWEH AND HE SAID <IF> CERTAINLY [IF] <TO GIVE> YOU WILL GIVE <OBJ.> [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON IN HAND MY 30Jephthah made this vow to the LORD: “If indeed You will deliver the Ammonites into my hand,
AND IT WILL BE WHATEVER COMES OUT WHICH IT WILL COME OUT FROM [THE] DOORS OF HOUSE MY TO MEET ME WHEN RETURN I IN PEACE FROM [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON AND IT WILL BELONG TO YAHWEH AND I WILL OFFER UP IT A BURNT OFFERING 31then whatever comes out the door of my house to greet me on my triumphant return from the Ammonites will belong to the LORD, and I will offer it up as a burnt offering.”
AND HE PASSED ON JEPHTHAH TO [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON TO FIGHT AGAINST <THE> THEM AND HE GAVE THEM YAHWEH IN HAND HIS 32So Jephthah crossed over to the Ammonites to fight against them, and the LORD delivered them into his hand.
AND HE DEFEATED THEM FROM AROER AND UNTIL COMING YOU MINNITH TWENTY CITI[ES] AND TO ABEL KERAMIM A DEFEAT GREAT VERY AND THEY WERE SUBDUED [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON FROM BEFORE [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL 33With a great blow he devastated twenty cities from Aroer to the vicinity of Minnith, as far as Abel-keramim. So the Ammonites were subdued before the Israelites.
AND HE CAME JEPHTHAH <THE> MIZPAH TO HOUSE HIS AND THERE! DAUGHTER HIS [WAS] COMING OUT TO MEET HIM WITH TAMBOURINES AND WITH DANCING AND ONLY SHE [WAS] AN ONLY [CHILD] NOT [BELONGED] TO <THE> HIM FROM HIM A SON OR A DAUGHTER 34And when Jephthah returned home to Mizpah, there was his daughter coming out to meet him with tambourines and dancing! She was his only child; he had no son or daughter besides her.
AND IT WAS WHEN SAW HE <OBJ.> HER AND HE TORE <OBJ.> CLOTHES HIS AND HE SAID ALAS! O DAUGHTER MY CERTAINLY <TO BRING LOW> YOU HAVE BROUGHT LOW ME AND YOU YOU ARE AMONG [THOSE WHO] TROUBLE ME AND I I HAVE OPENED MOUTH MY TO YAHWEH AND NOT I AM ABLE TO TURN BACK 35As soon as Jephthah saw her, he tore his clothes and said, “No! Not my daughter! You have brought me to my knees! You have brought great misery upon me, for I have given my word to the LORD and cannot take it back.”
AND SHE SAID TO HIM O FATHER MY YOU HAVE OPENED <OBJ.> MOUTH YOUR TO YAHWEH DO TO <THE> ME JUST AS IT HAS COME OUT FROM MOUTH YOUR AFTER THAT HE DID FOR <THE> YOU YAHWEH VENGEANCE<S> FROM ENEMIES YOUR FROM [THE] PEOPLE OF AMMON 36“My father,” she replied “you have given your word to the LORD. Do to me as you have said, for the LORD has avenged you of your enemies, the Ammonites
AND SHE SAID TO FATHER HER LET IT BE DONE FOR <THE> ME THE THING <THE> THIS REFRAIN FROM ME TWO MONTHS SO LET ME GO AND I WILL GO DOWN ON THE MOUNTAINS SO I MAY WEEP ON VIRGINITI<ES> MY I AND COMPANIONS MY 37She also said to her father, “Let me do this one thing: Let me wander for two months through the mountains with my friends and mourn my virginity.”
AND HE SAID GO AND HE SENT AWAY <OBJ.> HER TWO MONTHS AND SHE WENT SHE AND COMPANIONS HER AND SHE WEPT ON VIRGINITI<ES> HER ON THE MOUNTAINS 38“Go,” he said. And he sent her away for two months. So she left with her friends and mourned her virginity upon the mountains.
AND IT WAS FROM [THE] END OF TWO MONTHS AND SHE RETURNED TO FATHER HER AND HE DID TO <THE> HER <OBJ.> VOW HIS WHICH HE HAD VOWED AND SHE NOT SHE HAD KNOWN A MAN AND IT WAS A CUSTOM IN ISRAEL 39After two months, she returned to her father, and he did to her as he had vowed. And she had never had relations with a man. So it has become a custom in Israel
