15AND HE DIED ABDON [THE] SON OF HILLEL THE PIRATHONITE AND HE WAS BURIED AT PIRATHON IN [THE] LAND OF EPHRAIM IN [THE] HILL COUNTRY OF THE AMALEKITE[S] 15Then Abdon son of Hillel, from Pirathon, died, and he was buried at Pirathon in Ephraim, in the hill country of the Amalekites.
1AND THEY REPEATED [THE] PEOPLE OF ISRAEL TO DO THE EVIL IN [THE] EYES OF YAHWEH AND HE GAVE THEM YAHWEH IN [THE] HAND OF [THE] PHILISTINES FORTY YEAR[S] The Birth of Samson (Numbers 6:1–21) 1Again the Israelites did evil in the sight of the LORD, so He delivered them into the hand of the Philistines for forty years.
2AND HE WAS A MAN ONE FROM ZORAH FROM [THE] CLAN OF THE DANITE[S] AND NAME HIS [WAS] MANOAH AND WIFE HIS [WAS] BARREN AND NOT SHE HAD BORNE CHILDREN 2Now there was a man from Zorah named Manoah, from the clan of the Danites, whose wife was barren and had no children.
3AND HE APPEARED [THE] ANGEL OF YAHWEH TO THE WOMAN AND HE SAID TO HER HERE! PLEASE YOU [ARE] BARREN AND NOT YOU HAVE BORNE CHILDREN AND YOU WILL CONCEIVE AND YOU WILL BEAR A SON 3The angel*NoteCloseOr Angel; here and throughout chapter 13; corresponding pronouns may also be capitalized. of the LORD appeared to the woman and said to her, “It is true that you are barren and have no children; but you will conceive and give birth to a son.
4AND THEREFORE TAKE CARE PLEASE AND MAY NOT YOU DRINK WINE AND STRONG DRINK AND MAY NOT YOU EAT ANY UNCLEAN [THING] 4Now please be careful not to drink wine or strong drink, and not to eat anything unclean.
5FOR HERE YOU [WILL BE] PREGNANT AND YOU WILL BEAR A SON AND A RAZOR NOT IT WILL GO UP ON HEAD HIS FOR A NAZIRITE OF GOD HE WILL BE THE LAD FROM THE WOMB AND HE HE WILL BEGIN TO DELIVER <OBJ.> ISRAEL FROM [THE] HAND OF [THE] PHILISTINES 5For behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son. And no razor shall touch his head, because the boy will be a Nazirite*NoteCloseOr set apart to God from the womb, and he will begin the deliverance of Israel from the hand of the Philistines.”
6AND SHE WENT THE WOMAN AND SHE SAID TO HUSBAND HER <TO> SAYING <THE> MAN OF <THE> GOD HE CAME TO ME AND APPEARANCE HIS [WAS] LIKE [THE] APPEARANCE OF <THE> ANGEL OF <THE> GOD AWESOME VERY AND NOT I ASKED HIM WHERE? FROM THIS [WAS] HE AND <OBJ.> NAME HIS NOT HE TOLD TO <THE> ME 6So the woman went and told her husband, “A man of God came to me. His appearance was like the angel of God, exceedingly awesome. I did not ask him where he came from and he did not tell me his name.
7AND HE SAID TO <THE> ME HERE YOU [WILL BE] PREGNANT AND YOU WILL BEAR A SON AND THEREFORE MAY NOT YOU DRINK WINE AND STRONG DRINK AND MAY NOT YOU EAT ANY UNCLEANNESS FOR A NAZIRITE OF GOD HE WILL BE THE LAD FROM THE WOMB UNTIL [THE] DAY OF DEATH HIS 7But he said to me, ‘Behold, you will conceive and give birth to a son. Now, therefore, do not drink wine or strong drink, and do not eat anything unclean, because the boy will be a Nazirite to God from the womb until the day of his death.’”
8AND HE PRAYED MANOAH TO YAHWEH AND HE SAID PARDON ME O LORD [THE] MAN OF <THE> GOD WHOM YOU SENT LET HIM COME PLEASE AGAIN TO US SO HE MAY TEACH US WHAT? WILL WE DO FOR THE LAD WHO IS ABOUT TO BE BORN 8Then Manoah prayed to the LORD “Please, O Lord, let the man of God You sent us come to us again to teach us how to raise the boy who is to be born.”
9AND HE LISTENED <THE> GOD TO [THE] VOICE OF MANOAH AND HE CAME [THE] ANGEL OF <THE> GOD AGAIN TO THE WOMAN AND SHE [WAS] SITTING IN THE FIELD AND MANOAH HUSBAND HER NOT [WAS] WITH HER 9And God listened to the voice of Manoah, and the angel of God returned to the woman as she was sitting in the field; but her husband Manoah was not with her.
10AND SHE MADE HASTE THE WOMAN AND SHE RAN AND SHE TOLD TO HUSBAND HER AND SHE SAID TO HIM HERE! HE HAS PRESENTED HIMSELF TO ME THE MAN WHO HE CAME ON THE DAY TO ME 10The woman ran quickly to tell her husband, “Behold, the man who came to me the other day has reappeared
11AND HE AROSE AND HE WENT MANOAH AFTER WIFE HIS AND HE CAME TO THE MAN AND HE SAID TO <THE> HIM ¿ [ARE] YOU THE MAN WHO YOU SPOKE TO THE WOMAN AND HE SAID I 11So Manoah got up and followed his wife. When he came to the man, he asked “Are you the man who spoke to my wife?” “I am, he said.
12AND HE SAID MANOAH NOW IT WILL COME WORDS YOUR WHAT? WILL IT BE [THE] MANNER OF THE LAD AND WORK HIS 12Then Manoah asked, “When your words come to pass, what will be the boy’s rule of life and mission?”
13AND HE SAID [THE] ANGEL OF YAHWEH TO MANOAH FROM ALL THAT I SAID TO THE WOMAN SHE WILL TAKE CARE 13So the angel of the LORD answered Manoah, “Your wife is to do everything I told her.
14ANY OF ALL THAT IT COMES FORTH FROM [THE] VINE OF THE WINE NOT SHE WILL EAT AND WINE AND STRONG DRINK MAY NOT SHE DRINK AND ANY UNCLEANNESS MAY NOT SHE EAT ALL THAT I COMMANDED HER SHE WILL KEEP 14She must not eat anything that comes from the vine, nor drink any wine or strong drink, nor eat anything unclean. She must do everything I have commanded her.”
15AND HE SAID MANOAH TO [THE] ANGEL OF YAHWEH LET US DETAIN PLEASE <OBJ.> YOU SO WE MAY PREPARE <TO> BEFORE YOU A KID OF GOATS 15“Please stay here Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, “and we will prepare a young goat for you.”
16AND HE SAID [THE] ANGEL OF YAHWEH TO MANOAH IF YOU WILL DETAIN ME NOT I WILL EAT IN FOOD YOUR AND IF YOU WILL MAKE A BURNT OFFERING TO YAHWEH YOU WILL OFFER UP IT FOR NOT HE KNEW MANOAH THAT [WAS] [THE] ANGEL YAHWEH IT 16And the angel of the LORD replied “Even if I stay, I will not eat your food. But if you prepare a burnt offering, offer it to the LORD.” For Manoah did not know that it was the angel of the LORD.
17AND HE SAID MANOAH TO [THE] ANGEL OF YAHWEH WHO? [IS] NAME YOUR IF IT WILL COME WORD YOUR AND WE WILL HONOR YOU 17Then Manoah said to the angel of the LORD, “What is your name, so that we may honor you when your word comes to pass?”
18AND HE SAID TO <THE> HIM [THE] ANGEL OF YAHWEH <TO> WHY? THIS ARE YOU ASKING TO NAME MY AND IT [IS] INCOMPREHENSIBLE 18“Why do you ask my name,” said the angel of the LORD “since it is beyond comprehension?”
19AND HE TOOK MANOAH <OBJ.> [THE] KID OF THE GOATS AND <OBJ.> THE GRAIN OFFERING AND HE OFFERED [IT] UP ON THE ROCK TO YAHWEH AND AN EXTRAORDINARY THING TO DO AND MANOAH AND WIFE HIS [WERE] LOOKING 19Then Manoah took a young goat and a grain offering and offered them on a rock to the LORD. And as Manoah and his wife looked on, the LORD did a marvelous thing.
20AND IT WAS WHEN WENT UP THE FLAME FROM ON THE ALTAR THE HEAVENS TOWARDS AND HE WENT UP [THE] ANGEL OF YAHWEH IN [THE] FLAME OF THE ALTAR AND MANOAH AND WIFE HIS [WERE] LOOKING AND THEY FELL ON FACES THEIR [THE] GROUND TOWARDS 20When the flame went up from the altar to the sky, the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame. When Manoah and his wife saw this, they fell facedown to the ground.
21AND NOT HE REPEATED AGAIN [THE] ANGEL OF YAHWEH TO APPEAR TO MANOAH AND TO WIFE HIS THEN HE KNEW MANOAH THAT [WAS] [THE] ANGEL OF YAHWEH IT 21And when the angel of the LORD did not appear again to Manoah and his wife, Manoah realized that it had been the angel of the LORD.
22AND HE SAID MANOAH TO WIFE HIS CERTAINLY <TO DIE> WE WILL DIE FOR GOD WE HAVE SEEN 22“We are going to die,” he said to his wife, “for we have seen God!”
23AND SHE SAID TO <THE> HIM WIFE HIS IF HE HAD DESIRED YAHWEH TO KILL US NOT HE ACCEPTED FROM HAND OUR A BURNT OFFERING AND A GRAIN OFFERING AND NOT HE SHOWED US <OBJ.> ALL THESE [THINGS] AND ABOUT <THE> THIS TIME NOT HE CAUSED TO HEAR US LIKE THIS 23But his wife replied “If the LORD had intended to kill us, He would not have accepted the burnt offering and the grain offering from our hands, nor would He have shown us all these things or spoken to us this way.”
24AND SHE BORE THE WOMAN A SON AND SHE CALLED <OBJ.> NAME HIS SAMSON AND HE GREW UP THE LAD AND HE BLESSED HIM YAHWEH 24So the woman gave birth to a son and named him Samson. The boy grew, and the LORD blessed him.
25AND IT BEGAN [THE] SPIRIT OF YAHWEH TO STIR HIM IN MAHANEH DAN BETWEEN ZORAH AND BETWEEN ESHTAOL 25And the Spirit of the LORD began to stir him at Mahaneh-dan,*NoteCloseMahaneh-dan means camp of Dan. between Zorah and Eshtaol.
